Captain's log stardate 99012.1 the discovery is headed back to earth to pick up our newly recovered crew! It has been an honor to be acting captain aboard such a ship. In addition to this we are carrying experimental tricobalt devices. These devices are extremely powerful and I hope we don't have to use them.
Location: bridge
The bridge of the USS Discovery is rather quiet today as the ship's senior staff take a moment to relax. However that moment is interrupted by an incoming hail.
Acting captain Alexa: LT Detmer let's see what is happening. Onscreen.
To everyone's surprise the image of admiral Lorca flickers to life on the viewscreen.
Admiral Lorca: Captain Alexa. 47 hours ago something rather disturbing happened. An experimental doomsday weapon developed in secret by section 31 has gone rouge. This AI controlled weapon could pose a significant threat to the entire alpha quadrant. Your orders are to destroy it and prevent total disaster! Lorca out.
Acting captain Alexa looked rather confused. She had no idea what was going on and who or what this "section 31" was.
Acting captain Alexa: "section 31" who the heck are "section 31"????!
Thankfully Lt Tilly had the answer.
Lt Tilly: section 31 are a top secret black ops division of Starfleet. I've had dealings with them before. Several years ago we were ordered to intercept the USS Glenn. The ship was found on automatic control and was slipping in and out of the mycelial network. What we found on board was nothing short of disturbing. A tardigrade like creature was hooked up to an invasive version of the spore drive. The drive was similar to the non invasive spore drive on the Discovery, only difference was that the tardigrade was physically hooked up to the drive. We rescued the tardigrade and were later reverse engineer the invasive spore drive to create the non invasive drive that's currently on the USS Discovery. Admiral Lorca is currently looking into section 31 involvement in the Crossfield class project and believes that the Discovery was originally designed to hold an invasive spore drive.
Before the acting captain could respond, ensign Ryan spoke up.
Ensign Ryan: Captain we've just picked up an object on long range sensors. Captain you won't believe this. The object is broadcasting a similar IFF signal to the one used by the USS Glenn!
Acting captain Alexa responds
Acting captain Alexa: looks like we've found it! Black alert! Helm prepare to activate the spore drive in 3…2…1 NOW!!!

DOOMSDAY: A STAR TREK FAN PRODUCTION
Captain's log supplemental. Well it looks like we were sidetracked by a rather important mission. We are to destroy an out of control AI powered doomsday weapon that could pose a threat to the entire alpha quadrant. Picking up the ship's regular captain and the rest of the crew will have to wait.
Shortly after entering the Mycelial network the starship discovery exited and the ship appeared in normal space in a flash of orange light. Immediately after the ship exited a conical black object approached the ship.
Acting captain Alexa: well would you look at that. Red alert, shields up!
The acting captain pressed a button on her armrest and the red alert klaxon started blaring. Shortly afterwards the doomsday weapon fired phasers and attacked the crossfield class starship!
Acting captain Alexa: helm. Fire phasers in proximity blast mode!
A brilliant blue bolt of energy was fired from the ship's phaser banks and hit the object at point blank range. However it had no effect!
Acting captain Alexa: what just happened?!?!
Ensign Ryan: Captain scans indicate that the weapon's hull is made of solid neutronium. Our phasers are unable to penetrate the metal. However sensors indicate one weak point. A maw that appears to fire an anti-proton beam. If we use the tricobalt devices and aim them at the maw we might be able to destroy the weapon. We must do this quickly because sensors show that the anti-proton beam is charging.
Acting captain Alexa responds.
Acting captain Alexa: that's not a bad idea. Helm. Fire the tricobalt devices at the maw!!!
The helm officer pressed a button on his console and the tricobalt devices were fired! Thankfully the devices worked and the weapon was destroyed.
A day later…
Captain's log stardate 99012.3
We have arrived back at earth. As I record this log the discharge files are being written for the fully recovered crew. I am also told that there is a new addition to the crew. She is a "DOT-23" repair robot from an alternate timeline. This is my final log entry as acting captain. It has been an honor to serve on the only crossfield class starship still in active service. End log entry.
Location: Starfleet medical/EAST WING
Captain Makenna anxiously waited as the doctor filled out the discharge files. After what felt like an eternity the doctor finished writing and handed the dataslate and stylus to the captain. The captain signed the "paperwork" and handed the dataslate back to the doctor.
A few minutes later.
Location: bridge.
The bridge was buzzing with activity as the crew prepared to leave orbit! The turbolift doors opened and Captain Makenna stepped out of the turbolift and sat down in the captain's chair. Dottie the repair robot turned towards the captain and spoke up.
Dottie: heading ma'am?
Captain Makenna responded.
Captain Makenna: out there… that way. Engage!
