Earth-891

Mega City, Late 21st Century

Rock Light stepped carefully through the empty city. As he looked at the towering skyscrapers and abandoned cars, nature was in the early stages of reclaiming it. Scanning his surroundings, making sure it was just him, he placed a hand on the side of his head.

"Mega Man to Kasugano," he said. "I'm almost at the meeting point but there's no sign of Shadowlaw anywhere."

"I bet those bastards will make you try to find them, seems like their MO," the voice on the other end scoffed.

"You shouldn't say such words around an impressionable child such as myself."

"Bullshit, you're three years older than I am. Just take care out there, and if they try anything, show them what Ryu-senpai taught you."

Rock smiled and ended the call. His friend was right, though-on the outside, he was the spitting image of a preteen boy with green eyes and brown hair. But a keen eye would notice how… artificial he seemed. His pupils wouldn't dilate like regular humans did, his skin didn't have any pores or blemishes, and the blue gauntlet on his right arm seemed less like a garment and more like something physically attached to him, as did his equally blue boots.

Indeed, Rock Light was a robot. His father, Doctor Thomas Light, had designed him and his sister Roll to be household helpers, but the boy had quickly found himself destined for greater things.

Unfortunately greater things were still a ways away, as the world had quickly gone to hell. Further advancements in machinery saw the creation of the V-series mechs and space travel, which was succeeded by strange meteors that woke the dead. Rock had joined a group of survivors working to discover what made these zombies tick, and they had sent him to try and secure some allies.

They definitely needed the help. He was the most advanced tech they had running, Roll currently offline until they could find the parts to restore her, and their other equipment was whatever wasn't nailed down in an Umbrella lab.

He was surprised to turn a corner and find a Vital Armor collapsed in a kneeling position. Quickly placing a helmet atop his head, he used its visor to scan the machine.

Satisfied with the information given, Rock took off his helmet and continued walking, spotting a silhouette standing atop one of the buildings. No doubt the figure was trying to be intimidating. Rolling his eyes, Rock crouched down before springing to his feet, momentum delivering him straight to the stranger.

"Hi, I'm Rock," he greeted with a wry grin. "You can call me Mega Man."

"Killer Bee," scoffed the stranger, a blonde woman dressed in fatigues. "You should've gone through the front, Bison doesn't like showboats."

"I just figured I'd spice things up."

Killer Bee wasn't impressed, but nonetheless led Rock inside, eventually bringing him to a long table at a conference room. Sitting at the other end was a man dressed in a deep red military outfit, a dark cloak resting on his shoulders. She soon departed, leaving the two of them alone-along with a bodyguard.

"Rock Light," he greeted, holding a hand out. "Please, take a seat. Even pistons and servos need a rest period."

"Oh, well, thank you," said Rock, picking a random seat and taking it, setting his helmet on the table. "I can't thank you enough for agreeing to this meeting, we need all the help we can get figuring out these zombies."

M. Bison nodded in agreement. Rock had heard plenty of stories about Shadowlaw, the brutality with which they took swathes of ruined Earth and caused hell for many of his friends, but the man in charge of the group seemed very polite.

"One of my scouts made a discovery while clearing out the Arklay Forest," Bison explained, as his bodyguard brought a case forward. "A tiny little thing, but nonetheless capable of great destruction."

He opened the case up, Rock putting his helmet back on to scan the contents. Bison presented some sort of crescent-shaped crystal, reddish-orange with black rock clinging to it.

DEVIL SPLINTER

Rock blinked. What prompted that to appear on his visor?

"If I can figure out how this works," he said, shaking off the glitch, "then we can figure out how it infects others. And once we do, we might be able to work on a cure, even rebuild the Earth!"

He turned eagerly to Bison, who continued staring at the object. The Devil Splinter, so the glitch said. He tried not to let that dampen his mood.

"In fact, I think I could start a preliminary scan right-"

"If this can cause such destructiveness within necrotic flesh, imagine what it could do with something living."

Rock faltered, staring at Bison. "…what?"

"I was planning to test this on a volunteer from my group, but since you're providing free bodies, who am I to refuse?"

The boy raised a hand, trying to appear in control as he pointed at the man. "Hang on, I never said anything of the sort."

"I believe you don't understand me, Rock." Bison stood, making his guest feel very small. "The only world I care to build is one where Shadowlaw is in charge."

Rick tried standing to argue back, but he felt surprisingly strong hands on his shoulders, the guard holding him in place.

"Now, either you bring us our new test subjects willingly, or we rip you apart and scrape the information from your memory banks while you're still alive."

Rock knew he was outnumbered, and whatever Shadowlaw did to its grunts clearly made them capable of taking on robots. Acting quickly, he held up his right arm, the blue colors of his gauntlet and helmet changing to black, the former turning into a weapon as he fired an arc of electricity at the guard behind him.

"Sorry, Bison, but I'll have to decline your offer."

The man growled, tossing the table aside to charge at Rock. He managed to grab his other arm, slamming the boy into the ground. His colors changed to an orange-red, flames spewing from his weapon. Bison stumbled back in surprise, allowing Rock to get back to his feet.

"Souvenirs from some old friends," shrugged Rock. "They haven't let me down yet."

Bison just chuckled, tossing his jacket to the side. His right arm was completely black with a purple glow emanating from within, fingers bristling with energy. He slammed his fist into Rock's chest, sending him flying into a window on the other side of the room. The glass cracked, but didn't shatter, giving him an idea.

His colors changed to a darker shade of blue, a stream of ice blasting right in Bison's face. The human was frozen to the ground-but the purple energy glowing brighter suggested that wouldn't remain the case. As his armor shifted back to its normal blue, his hand reappeared and he ran for the Devil Splinter. He grabbed hold right as the ice shattered, Bison roaring as he turned to him.

"You insolent pest!" he growled, eyes pure white with rage. "I'll make sure you suffer for this!"

Rock didn't even try to respond, instead ducking out of the way of his attack and racing for the broken window. He smashed through the glass, but lost his grip on the Devil Splinter. His visor could mark its trajectory, however. It flew through the air, away from the building. And towards the abandoned Blodia.

CHANCES OF SUCCESSFUL COUNTERATTACK: Calculating

If Rock had a stomach, he'd feel a pit form in it. Regardless of how powerful those Shadowlaw types were, not even they could compare to a VA's power. He could probably deal some damage once he reached the ground, but who knew how much energy that Devil Splinter could provide it?

"I need to defeat it," he told himself. That thing could level the city, destroy all his friends, destroy Roll. He had to fight it, because he was the only one that could.

But as he fell, something appeared in front of him. Some sort of silvery stick, a red marking on the middle, with a white and blue cap. It somehow seemed to be floating in midair in front of him.

EVOLTRUSTER

Okay, what had gotten into his systems?

TAKE IT

TRUST ME

Rock couldn't determine if whatever had hacked into his HUD was benevolent or not, but as the ground grew nearer and the Blodia rose up to its full height, he had no choice.

He yanked the cap free, grabbed this Evoltruster, and raised it high. Light began emanating from the object, which soon covered the entire area.

When the light cleared, it wasn't a robot boy who touched the ground, but a giant. Mostly silver with black markings and a giant red shape on his chest, his head greatly resembled a helmet, with a fin running up the top. He turned to Blodia just as it rose to its feet.

The mech regarded the giant for a moment before raising its right arm. Below a built-in shield was a cannon, which fired red bolts of energy at the giant. He held his arms up, the blasts reflecting off his bracers, before charging the machine. Blodia tried delivering a left hook with its spiked fist, but the giant dodged, his bracers glowing as he shot energy forward, slicing the spikes clean off the arm.

This, however, left him open to a hit from the right fist, knocking him to the ground. The red core began glowing, eventually releasing a burst of energy which tripped up Blodia. He rose back to his feet, just as his opponent propped up a probe on its right side. The probe fired a laser, which the giant dodged, and it struck the building where the meeting took place.

Glancing over, he could notice the woman from earlier, Killer Bee, falling from the roof. The giant reached out a hand to cushion her fall, allowing her to climb out onto solid ground. She stared up at him, and he nodded back, before turning to Blodia and grabbing its middle. Rising to his feet, he held the mech in a fireman's hold before tossing it back down, destroying the probe.

Despite this damage, it refused to back down, and once again rose to its feet. The Giant held his hands to the side as energy formed between them; then, he brought the hands into a crossed position on his right side, a stream of energy firing into the robot. Its armor buckled for a moment before it gave way, and the upper half went up in a ball of fire.

As the legs toppled to the ground the Giant pulled out the Devil Splinter, regarded it in his hand, and then took off into the sky.

Rock held the object in his right hand as he made it back to base. Mega City's S.T.A.R.S. supply depot wasn't the biggest building in town, but it would serve them well enough.

Seeing as nobody else was around, he set the Devil Splinter on a nearby table, then produced the Evoltruster to examine it more closely.

"What are you?" he questioned aloud. "How did you do… all of that?"

I AM LIGHT

Despite having removed his helmet, the words were still crystal clear in his mind. "Okay, and what does that mean?"

MY LIGHT IS A GIFT

WHEN OTHERS INHERIT IT, IT SHINES ANEW

"Is that you, Rock?" Upon hearing the voice, he hurriedly pocketed the object, turning to who was speaking. It was only Leon, one of the members of their group. "Did the meeting go well?"

"Not exactly," he replied, pressing his lips together. "Shadowlaw tried betraying me like Sakura said they would, I think we're enemies for life now. And there was an inactive VA that came to life in the street, but I managed to nab this."

Rock picked up the Devil Splinter once more and gave it a satisfied shake, while Leon just stared dumbfounded. "Hang on, you had to fight a VA? Is there even a city left out there?"

"Hey, relax, I had help."

"Must've been some help, taking on a giant mech like that. Did you get their name?"

The words appeared in his mind clear as day, nudging Rock to divulge.

"Nexus. His name's Ultraman Nexus."

The man didn't press any further, so Rock took the Devil Splinter to his lab to study it properly. He could feel his processor threaten to overheat processing events of the day (he might need to ask someone to clean out his fans soon) but as he felt the Evoltruster jostle in his pocket, he knew there would be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Howdy. You're probably confused by all of this. Well, I decided to make a story for the Infinity Crisis series. If you haven't heard of it, dw, this doesn't touch on anything major (you don't even have to read the series to understand this). I myself haven't read every single contribution, but what I can glean off the TVTropes page is that nobody's included the Ultra Series into IC, and I figured I'd make a name for myself and do just that lol.

Earth-891 is a collection of various Capcom franchises rolled into one. If I ever decide to continue this thing, I'll definitely include more (which means I've got homework to do). To anyone familiar with the lore of the Ultra Series and IC, I imagine Noa sensed the Snap coming and used his powers to shield as much of their universes as he could, devolving into Nexus in the process-hence why he appears as such in Ginga S and X and evolves into Noa once more in TDC.

But anyway, I hope my first installment was a good one, and I'd like to do more some day. But until then, see ya!
