Don't Overwork Yourself:

(Surprise! I'mma hit you guys up with a chapter about one of my favorite Legendaries! I figured I'd want to see where the Legendaries could fit into this AU situation. I feel like his occupation should match both his character in the movies and match his status as a legendary. Anyways, enjoy!)

An alarm buzzed into his ears as he awoke. Mewtwo could only groan in pain over the jarring noise, but he pushed himself to get out of bed and go freshen up. He brushed his teeth and checked his calendar to see if he had his dates correct.

"Okay, I should stop by the foundation for a walk-in inspection today." Mewtwo said, grabbing the mouthwash with his mind. He watched as it levitated toward him, "I hope my family has been handling their hires well." Mewtwo thought to himself, turning in the shower to complete his morning multitask.

Mewtwo then heard a ring on his phone as he just got into the shower. He sighed, annoyed, "I'm not getting a ziplock. The call can wait." Mewtwo said, rubbing his eyes.

(Later)

Mewtwo saw that the rain was getting heavy. He was fortunate he wore a coat today. He levitated and flew through the concrete jungles of Poke-City. He took a sip of his coffee and looked at his phone. He landed safely towards the building.

He looked up at the sign and read his company. "The Amber Foundation."

Mewtwo had opened the doors and walked to the receptionist. "O-Oh! Mr. Mewtwo! I-I wasn't expecting you today, sir." The Ampharos said, "You need to be paying attention, Jordan. Today was supposed to be my monthly check in." Mewtwo explained, chastising the employee on that level of timidity. "I-I'm sorry, sir. As such, I'll a-alert Peggy and let her know you're here." Jordan said, typing on his phone to email his superior.

Mewtwo just gave a quiet glance over at the lobby. He could see the workers over in the greenhouse area.

The Amber Foundation was dedicating its time to furthering the natural aspects of Poke-City. They specialize in plant cultivation, groundskeeping to property, and helping to raise both awareness for the community and bring the community closer together.

Mewtwo named the foundation after a dear friend. Someone he owed a great debt to if he didn't clean up his own act.

"Ah, hello sir! I'm glad you could make it!" A Wigglytuff came in and greeted Mewtwo. "Hello, Peggy. How are you doing this week?" Mewtwo asked, trying to keep the conversation light.

"Ah, well I've been doing good. My youngest just starred in a play, so that was worthwhile fun!" Peggy said. "But let's go ahead and kick things off. Why don't we tour the lobby?" Peggy asked. Mewtwo had nodded his head, respectfully and followed behind the Wigglytuff.

"As you can see, sir. We've opened the doors to a field trip to help raise awareness among the children." Mewtwo noticed a few young children were looking at all the plants in the room.

Their teacher was explaining they have to plant many things to maintain a clean and breathable environment as they walked past.

"Oh, and that right there is the man that put this foundation together!" The teacher pointed out, which caught Mewtwo by surprise. "Oh, I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm afraid we're rather busy at the moment."

"I-It's all right, Peggy. Um…hello, all!" Mewtwo said, a little semi-awkwardly.

A few students were intimidated by his serious demeanor. Mewtwo wasn't exactly a conversationalist, so this would be difficult.

"I…hope you all are doing well and prioritizing your education." Mewtwo said, before awkwardly taking a sip of his coffee. "Enjoy your stay here at the foundation." He said before trying to walk away.

"Wait, Mr. Mewtwo. I was wondering!" A young Mimikyu shouted at the cat.

"Lorn, now you don't want to hold him up, now."

"It's fine, Miss. Lorn, was it? What was your quandary?" Mewtwo said. Lorn gave a small confused glance. "I don't know about Quan-trees, but I have a question. My Papa says when I get older, I could work here! What do I need to do?" Lorn asked.

Mewtwo had levitated his coffee and adjusted his scarf. "Well, Lorn. As far as I know about your experience. It must be at least well versed enough in science to study how plants behave, and which environments they grow in. More than likely, college should be encouraged if you want to work at a place like here." Mewtwo said.

Lorn couldn't show, but he smiled. "That's sounds so cool!" Lorn said, eyes widening at the idea.

"Yes, but don't expect things to be easier, either. Jobs require a hard working person with an immense fortitude with a willingness to learn." Mewtwo explained, "That would go for everyone here. Success is founded on hard work. There's no easy road to success." Mewtwo advised the children.

"But that's why it'll be worth it. Now, I will have to cut my time short. Enjoy touring the building." Mewtwo said, walking ahead.

A young Scorbunny looked at her friend, "Did you get all that?" Mai asked, not knowing what a few of those words even meant.

"Yeah, he said you gotta learn and work hard." Lorn said, still getting what he could from Mewtwo's words.

(Later)

Mewtwo watched as a Nidoqueen & Trevenant had planted new trees into their mix of soil. "Is that Mewtwo I see?" The Nidoqueen asked, smiling.

Mewtwo had kept his usual expression on his face, "It's been a while, Rita. How are your husband and little ones?" Mewtwo asked as the two of them hugged. "They're doing great. Still, they'd love to see you. We're going to have a cookout on Saturday." Rita suggested.

"I'll see if my schedule will open up for it." Mewtwo simply said, "Good to see you, Benjamin." He waved at the Trevenant.

"Hi, sir!" Benji had waved while he grabbed another fruit-bearing tree.

"So, how is your research?" Mewtwo asked. Rita then looked as she showed a few vials filled with soil. "We're still trying to experiment with the components, but hopefully we can use this soil for the fruit bearing trees." Rita explained.

Mewtwo nodded in understanding, "Good, but remember to detect any signs of anomaly for the long term." Mewtwo advised, asking his longtime friend to remember to stay cautionary of any adverse effects for the long term of the plant's growth and lifespan.

"I've already asked Pokey to help with the tilling and its process." Rita suggested.

Mewtwo nodded, taking another drink of his coffee. "Mewtwo, that better not be your third cup." Rita then said, her maternal instincts coming in.

Mewtwo just rubbed his eyes. "It's not. It's my second." He clarified. "You KNOW you should lay off the caffeine." Rita scolded her. "You know, maybe you SHOULD come to the cookout." She said.

"I already said I would—"

"I mean CLEAR your schedule. I've invited the whole group, and it wouldn't really be a family gathering if you were overworking yourself." Rita said. Mewtwo looked hesitant, he can't really let himself off of work. That would reflect badly on his contributions to the community. "I'll…think about clearing my schedule." Mewtwo said, deciding he couldn't say "no" to Rita and the others. Granted, he didn't really say "yes", either.

(Later)

Mewtwo flew through the mist of the city's night sky. "Maybe I'll get pancakes on my way home." Mewtwo said to himself, working up an appetite.

He looked around at all the sights of Poke-City's night atmosphere, but it's not what caught his attention. He could've sworn he saw someone fly right by him. It wasn't the normal aerial Pokemon, either.

Mewtwo had a growing suspicion and looked around to saw if it were someone familiar.

He looked and looked, and so far, nothing was seen.

"The last thing I need is—" Mewtwo then turned back around and underneath him was a small pink feline Pokemon. His genetic donor. Mew.

"A-Ahhh!" Mewtwo panicked when Mew snuck up on him.

He felt his levitation begin to fluctuate, "Calm down…" Mewtwo said to himself, regaining his ability to levitate.

"No. Whatever you want from me this time, NO." Mewtwo said, boldly and annoyedly. Mew had giggled and flew all around him. She was having fun seeing him after so long.

She then pointed or flew to a nearby set of signs, and Mewtwo had put it together.

"You…heard about Rita's cookout and want me to visit?" Mewtwo asked, really wondering if that's why Mew had come out here.

"I can't just blow off my job and my work because of a party." Mewtwo said, before seeing the breakfast place he wanted to go to. "Go home, Mew." Mewtwo started to fly lower and lower before he landed.

(After he gets his order)

He ordered some blueberry pancakes and held them in the air with his powers. He received a call from one of his former comrades about the cookout again. "I'm not sure, Warren. I don't understand why everyone wants me to go so badly." Mewtwo wasn't really the most fun or sociable at parties, and it wouldn't be good for him to take a day off from the foundation.

"Come on. You know I'll just keep bothering you, if you don't go…" Warren said, in a sing-songy voice.

"Warren. Enough with that." Mewtwo had sighed in defeat. "Fine. I'll go. I hope for YOUR sake, I won't find you being the troublesome person I know you are." Mewtwo had said.

"Ooooh! The kitten's got claws, huh? Well guess what! Foxes have claws, too. So for YOUR sake, you better—" Warren said, before Mewtwo hung up after an annoyed "Goodbye." The feline Pokemon sighed in annoyance.

"That Ninetales is going to drive me up a wall." Mewtwo just sighed, folding his arms.

"It's not that I don't want to go, but…I owe it to you to help the world out, Amber." Mewtwo had never let the first friend he ever made go.

He's lived a long life and his health wasn't in the best place upon his emergence. But he never let the memories of her go. However, the things she told him were the words he held onto the most.

"Life is wonderful…" Mewtwo then realized through all his work he hadn't exactly been living.

Amber wouldn't have wanted him being driven to madness with this behavior. Mewtwo then pulled out his phone.

"Regis. Hi. I was wondering if you could clear my schedule for the next two weeks after this Saturday?" Mewtwo said into the phone.

(A week later)

Mewtwo flew to the mountains in Hoenn for this reunion. Thanks to Warren's incessant ramblings and comically exhausting banter that Rita left out that this was a family gathering of the Cloned Pokemon.

He wasn't expecting to see Mew there at the party, and hopefully she wouldn't embarrass him in front of the others.

"It's…been a while since I've been home." Mewtwo said to himself, as he saw all the Pokemon and their families gathered.

"Mewtwo!" A Pikachu had ran up to him as he landed.

"Oh, it's you, Duo. I'm happy to see you." Mewtwo said, before Duo jumped into his arms for a hug. "I missed you so much! You promised me you'd visit!" Duo said.

Mewtwo hugged him back, "I apologize. Work has…been a bit busy." Mewtwo said, "That said, why don't we put that talk for later and join the others?" Mewtwo said.

"Yeah! Yeah! But you GOTTA tell me about the city!" Duo said, "You know you can travel with me." Mewtwo said.

"Can NOT! I've got guardian duties to the people!" The Pikachu said, "The guardian duties you self appointed yourself to?" Mewtwo said, not smirking, but he was definitely amused.

Maybe a day off was what he needed, after all. Amber may be gone, but there are still people he can be with that make life beautiful.

(That's the end! I may wanna cut in rn, I'm not a botany expert, so take anything botany related with a grain of salt. I hope u guys enjoy this. I originally wanted to make Mewtwo a "Batman" character(kinda like Diluc from Genshin Impact) with him owning a company in the city and fighting against injustice. However, with just that company idea in mind, I figure I do something much more relatable and less wild. Also, can we talk about how Amber is NEVER mentioned again by Mewtwo whenever he(or she) appears? I think bringing up Mewtwo's grief instead of his usual and LITERAL "What is my life?" storyline, we'd see another side of him. Sorry this is so long. Stay strong and awesome! Remember to love the people in your life!)

Acts 4:12 KJV:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
