Time Travel
In the Evil Capital in a non-serious chapter, Evil was in the classroom with Leviathan, Ainz, and Vanitas. The reason for this was because Evil was being taught by Leviathan, while Ainz was teaching Vanitas the basics of writing.
"I am baffled by the fact that the hundred-something year old is struggling more with basic math problems than the arguably younger boy born from Darkness," Leviathan remarked as he stared at Evil and Vanitas. The difference here is that while Evil was struggling, Vanitas was picking up the basics quicker.
"I possess a decent enough memory," Vanitas replied, handing in a basic spelling test to Ainz.
"Ya know, I'm still curious as to why it took Evil and Xehanort so long to grab you," Ainz commented, looking at Vanitas curiously.
Vanitas blinked, before snapping his fingers. "Right, the white haired dude who's a younger version of Master Xehanort…"
"We went through lots of hoops and hurdles to get him," Evil said. "I believe it will be worth it."
"You never did explain what happened," Leviathan said to Evil, staring at the 'Demon God' curiously. "You just showed up here by yourself and said you were gonna be back… again."
"Does it matter?" Evil asked.
Leviathan gave a deadpan stare. "Xehanort saw me and said that you could apparently grind meat on my abs, despite knowing me for about… what, two weeks?" Evil looked away, before Leviathan snapped his fingers and made Evil look at him again. "Alright, spill."
"I may or may not have had to time travel to get Xehanort and Vanitas," Evil confessed.
Leviathan seemed almost a bit annoyed by that notion. "Oh great, time travel. Of course you can time travel!"
"Hey, at least I brought their actual bodies to the present instead of that mumbo jumbo where if they take too much damage they just get sent back and have their memories wiped!" Evil retorted, slamming his fist on the desk.
"That just sounds complicated," Ainz replied, grading Vanitas's test right then and there.
"It would be easier if it was just like Dragon Ball Time Travel," Evil commented.
"Oh really?" Leviathan snarked. "It must be so much easier to understand."
Evil let out a huff as he stood up. "Well it is!" Evil walked up to the chalkboard before slamming his fist against it and removing all of the random notes on it. "Typically, a Time Machine is the easiest way to time travel! Lots of stuff regarding ores and stuff, whatever!"
After drawing a Time Machine, Evil then drew two lines. "The original timeline in which the Time Machine was created still exists even after going back into the past. Upon making a serious alteration though, the timeline branches out and changes entirely." Evil gestured to the board, drawing a branching line from the top line. "The Time Machine will also now travel back to this altered timeline if the pilot of it travels back to the future."
Leviathan blinked once, with even Ainz being surprised by Evil's knowledge on this. "...okay, serious question now," Leviathan replied. "HOW do you know this?"
Evil crossed his arms. "Well, before I became a villain, I was a member of the Time Patrol. Considering how time travel is important to us and is also the thing we fought against, we learned about the different types that we would be fighting against… although we never interfered with Trunks' time traveling."
"Time Patrol?" Vanitas questioned. "That just sounds made up."
"Anyways, the other type of time travel I am aware of involves more dangerous consequences," Evil said as he looked at the bottom line. "All events within a timeline are recorded within the Book of Beginning and End. One can look directly at these events via the Scrolls of Eternity located within the Time Vault, in the Time Nest, managed by the Supreme Kai of Time." Evil drew a branching line again. "If you make a serious change… history can get messed up." Evil erased the rest of the line, leaving only the branching line. "It can destabilize the timeline and destroy the recorded events, as well as erase people entirely."
"So what's different?" Ainz questioned.
"Alterations that are mortal made are fine and natural, but messing with the Book of Beginning and End will just destroy everything," Evil replied. "I remember a couple of times where Trunks nearly died and it almost erased him. We were faster though."
"I'm sorry, the hell?" Leviathan questioned, seeming baffled. "Who named their child Trunks?"
"Probably his mother, Bulma," Evil answered.
"And we're just meant to know who that is?" Vanitas asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Bulma Briefs," Evil clarified. "She's the owner of Capsule Corp and the inventor of the Time Machine."
"...checks out," Leviathan said, uninterested.
As things went silent, Xehanort opened the door to the classroom. "Yo," Xehanort said as he entered the room.
"Took you a bit," Evil commented as he looked at Xehanort. "Where have you been?"
"Time traveling to understand what happened in my future," Xehanort replied. "...I guess my past?" Xehanort shrugged. "Just got done fighting a couple of Keyblade users who were surprisingly tough. I can see why Vanitas and my elder self struggled with them."
"So, Evil announced you lost your memories," Leviathan told Xehanort. "Because your variation of time travel actually has more repercussions than Evil has had valuable life lessons."
"HEY!" Evil exclaimed, though the shots were already fired.
Xehanort merely shrugged. "It is what it is…"
"Okay, so, what happened with you?" Ainz asked Xehanort now. "How did your version of time travel result in you losing the memories of your time as a member of… what was it? Organization XIII?"
"Yeah, Organization XIII," Xehanort confirmed as he placed a duffle bag on a desk. "I can try to explain based on what I've learned so far."
Leviathan groaned. "...fine. Make it simple."
"So…" Xehanort drew a line on the chalkboard. "The time travel that was used by Organization XIII is different. Instead of, say, actually appearing in the time traveled to, only your Heart or spirit can travel through time. Another version of yourself also has to be waiting at the destination as well." Xehanort drew a branching line from the middle, going towards the end of the line. "From what I gathered, my future Heartless traveled back into the past and plucked me from my time. Upon doing so, he gave me the ability to time travel, and tasked me with plucking different versions of myself and select others to form Organization XIII." Xehanort gestured to Vanitas. "Vanitas is one such example."
"How did you lose your memory then?" Vanitas questioned while the attention was on him.
"One of the rules of this variation of time travel is that all the memories made during the journey through time are forgotten upon returning to one's prior place in time," Xehanort explained. "That's why neither of us remember our time in Organization XIII."
"That makes sense," Leviathan commented. "It prevents you from altering the events that have occurred."
"Actually, not quite," Xehanort commented. "See, the experience is still within us by a technicality." Xehanort placed a hand on his chest. "From what I gathered, the memories are still etched into our Hearts, which have traveled through time. This in turn can influence our decisions… It must be why I was exceptionally keen on studying Kingdom Hearts and the first Keyblade War upon becoming a Keyblade Master… which I am."
"All this talk about Hearts…" Ainz commented. "In this context, what IS a Heart?"
"That's up for debate," Xehanort explained. "It houses memories, as well as a person's will, emotions, and ambitions from immediate observation." Xehanort shrugged once again. "It's a matter that nobody quite knows the exact answers to, but it's the best we got for now."
"I still think your version of time travel is stupid," Evil said honestly, causing Xehanort to glare at him.
"What, don't believe actions have consequences?" Xehanort replied.
"Does it matter?" Evil replied, crossing his arms. "Losing one's memories is just stupid in general! It is very clear that using a Time Machine is much more successful anyways! It's not like it affects the future anyways, it just creates another timeline!"
"And it is because of this that I believe you will receive your comeuppance sooner or later, Evil," Leviathan commented, unamused by Evil believing in the superiority of the time travel he was familiar with.
Evil huffed. "It's not like I've done anything major with time travel!" Everyone present just stared at Evil, dumbfounded, before gesturing to Vanitas and Xehanort respectively. "Whatever!" Evil retorted in annoyance. "It's just a couple of people! No one is going to bat an eye!"
Considering the different types of time travel we're dealing with now, on top of alternate timelines, different dimensions, and other things, I felt like we needed to establish how the Kingdom Hearts time travel works compared to Dragon Ball's.
Anywho, tune into the next chapter. It'll be more serious.
