Opening File: Ghost Portal

A ghost portal is a gateway between Earth N-004 and the Ghost Zone. The ghost portals appear as discs of energy extending sideways. A portal can be created by a large output of ghostly energy, such as the amplified energy extracted from the ecto-filtrator. As physical gateways, ghost portals provide humans with a direct passage into the Ghost Zone.

The use of ghost portals also allows individuals to obtain their intangible abilities in the Ghost Zone, as well as to bring material objects with them. The first man-made was the prototype and first model of the ghost portal. During their college years, Vlad Master, Jack Fenton, and Maddie Bemelmans worked together on creating a portal to the Ghost Zone. However, things took a turn for the worst when Jack accidentally poured diet soda instead of ecto-purifier into the porto-portal's filtrator. And despite Maddie's warnings that his calculations were incorrect, Jack fired up the machine.

The resulting blast of ectoplasmic energy from the portal hit Vlad, who'd been standing right in front of it, in the face. The accident infected Vlad with ecto-acne, upending his life but also giving him his ghost powers. Located in the lab in the basement of Fenton Works, the portal was the Fentons' second attempt at creating a portal, the first being the proto-portal. It did not work immediately after being plugged in because it was not yet turned on.

During its creation, the on/off switch was placed inside the portal (later on an outer controller was installed). Because of this, a curious Danny accidentally activated the portal while exploring the inside it, causing the accident that gave him his ghost powers. The portal has been modified and upgraded over the years. The portal is able to be opened from both sides (Earth and the Ghost Zone), allowing ghosts to enter Amity Park at will.

Jack installed a fingerprint scanner, programmed to only allow Fenton family members to open the portal. However, this was removed at some point and later replaced with a manual lock. This portal was destroyed by Danny just prior to the Disasteroid Incident. The ecto-filtrator is a key part of an artificially created ghost portal.

The filtrator itself is a small glass vial which appears to act as a collection unit for ectoplasm and is extremely volatile if not replaced twice a year. The only piece that needs changing is the individual vial itself. The filtrator is fitted into a larger control unit that likely serves as the filtering technology, with the filtrator as the collection unit. While there is no standard design, all units are equipped with a detachable filtrator vial, a gauge to display the vial's fullness, and an alarm system.

In order to change the filtrator on the Fenton Portal, one must adjust settings on the control unit and enter a code in order to release the vial. It is also important that Ecto-Purifier be added to the Ecto-filtrator in order to prevent Ecto-Acne. Vlad Masters had his own ghost portal in his mansion. Just like the Fenton Portal, Vlad's portal had an ecto-filtrator that must be cleaned every six months. The portal has been destroyed and has been moved or rebuilt in a different location. In an alternate timeline, Maddie Masters created a ghost portal of her own in Vlad's mansion.

Several other devices have shown to be capable of creating ghost portals, such as the shots from the Fenton Bazooka generate temporary ghost portals temporarily fitted with a portable ghost portal device. A small device, likely stolen from the Fenton Works lab by Johnny 13 and mounted on his motorcycle for his own use could create portals between Earth and the Ghost Zone at the push of a button. Sidney Poindexter has his own portal in a mirror in his former locker 724 originally only functioned as a window and port of access for Poindexter's telepathic abilities. After coming in contact with Danny it activated as a portal through which Poindexter could cross (and Danny only once).

Anti-Spectral Accords:

In the wake of Danny Fenton disappearing into the Ghost Zone, apparently becoming its king, all countries signed an agreement to begin developing an anti-ghost unit with full jurisdiction in all countries that have signed the accords. Any attempt to hunt ghosts without permission of the local government of any aligned country is considered a violation of international law and subject to at least five years in federal prison.

Final Summary:

Though Danny Fenton, AKA Danny Phantom AKA the Phantom King has decreed that both worlds will remain separated and has expressly forbidden contact we cannot trust the words of a ghost, half-human or not. The GIW, in accordance with the Anti-Spectral Accords, have begun working on contingency plans and weapons to ensure no ghosts will ever aggressively act against humanity and to ensure the threat of ghost-kind is eliminated forever.
