CHAPTER 7: The Power of The Tenebrous Curse!
The world around them blurred as Sentinel and Zoro clashed again, their forms vanishing and reappearing in rapid succession, moving too fast for the eye to follow.
Each strike sent shockwaves across the battlefield. Every step shattered the water's surface, sending columns of liquid skyward like explosions. Sentinel controlled his weapons with masterful precision—DawnBringer and SinBringer slashed from opposite angles while spears, scythes, and swords swirled in a deadly storm around him.
Zoro barely kept up.
His instincts screamed as he dodged left, ducked under a spinning greatsword, and barely deflected a lunging spear. His three blades met the onslaught with raw force, sparks flying with every collision. Sentinel's attacks were relentless, almost inhuman, as if he wasn't bound by the same limitations as mortal fighters.
Sentinel waved his hand, and The Maroon Emperor shot forward, unleashing a blade beam that split the sky in half.
Zoro twisted in mid-air—"Three-Sword Style: Tiger Hunt!" His swords met the incoming slash, parting it down the middle before launching himself forward, blades flashing.
Sentinel smirked. "Not fast enough."
With a flick of his wrist, the Draw Blade shot past Zoro's defenses, cutting across his side. Black ink spread from the wound, sending a jolt through his body.
"Tch—!" Zoro gritted his teeth, pushing through the pain, forcing himself forward.
Sentinel followed up, raising both hands. DawnBringer and SinBringer crossed in the air, forming a symbol of light and darkness. Energy surged between them, coalescing into a massive sphere of opposing forces.
"Eclipse Breaker!"
The attack exploded toward Zoro with terrifying force.
Zoro roared, planting his feet against the air itself. "One-Sword Style: Death Lion Song!"
Wado Ichimonji gleamed under the moonlight as he swung with everything he had. The air screamed as his sword cut through the core of the attack, splitting the energy apart. The force sent him flying backward, skidding across the water's surface before flipping upright.
Sentinel appeared behind him in an instant. "You're slowing down."
A downward slash.
Zoro barely turned in time, raising his swords in a desperate block. The force sent him crashing into the sea below. Water exploded in all directions.
For a moment, silence.
Then—Zoro rose.
His breath was ragged, his body burned from exhaustion, but his spirit refused to break. His eyes glowed with a newfound fire.
"I can't lose here."
His body tensed. He felt it—that wall, the one he had shattered before against the strongest foes. This was it. He had to push past his limits.
A deep growl rumbled from his throat as dark energy erupted around him. His skin cracked with shadowy lines, and from his back, spectral arms wielding additional blades emerged. His entire presence changed—an aura of pure demonic intent.
Sentinel's eyes widened slightly. "So, this is your Asura form."
Zoro's voice was low, deadly. "Now we're even."
In a flash, they clashed again.
Their movements became blurs, crossing the battlefield in streaks of black and gold. Blades met with deafening clashes, shockwaves rippling outward with each impact. Sentinel controlled his floating weapons with ease, slashing and countering while weaving through Zoro's relentless assault.
Zoro's six spectral arms moved in perfect harmony with his real ones, his blades carving through the air with monstrous precision. "Nine-Sword Style: Asura—Silver Mist!" He twisted, unleashing a flurry of slashes in all directions.
Sentinel's weapons rotated, forming an unbreakable defense, but even he felt the force behind each strike.
Zoro didn't stop. He couldn't stop.
They clashed again.
And again.
And again.
Faster. Stronger. Pushing beyond the brink.
Zoro felt his muscles scream, his lungs burn, his arms shake from the sheer force of his attacks. But he refused to fall. He roared, slashing down with everything he had. Sentinel can feel the toll wearing on his body.
"I need to end this quick.." Sentinel thought.
Sentinel met him head-on.
A final clash shook the entire battlefield, splitting the sea in half.
And then—
Silence.
Both warriors stood, locked in place.
The water beneath them settled. The wind died. It began to rain from above.
Sentinel's floating weapons flickered… then faded away.
Zoro's blades trembled in his grip.
Both warriors knelt, panting heavily. The air between them was thick with tension, their bodies trembling from sheer exhaustion. Sentinel's grip on his swords tightened as he stared at Zoro, who met his gaze with unwavering determination.
"You.. really..are something…Sentinel" Zoro said.
"...I could say the same thing to you Zoro.." Sentinel said.
Then it happened.
A sharp, searing pain tore through Sentinel's arm, forcing him to clutch it with a grunt. His breath hitched as an eerie darkness began to swirl around him. "Damn it... The Tenebrous curse..." he muttered under his breath. The dormant power within him had been pushed beyond its limits, and now, it had awakened.
Zoro narrowed his eyes, his battle-worn instincts immediately sensing something was wrong. Sentinel's body convulsed, his muscles tensing as the dark energy surged through him. His fingers clawed into the ground, his veins pulsing with an ominous glow.
"Oi… what the hell is happening to you?" Zoro rasped, forcing himself to rise despite his weariness.
But Sentinel didn't respond. His breaths became ragged, his body trembling as jagged black markings spread across his skin. His pupils burned with an unholy glow, and then—
A monstrous roar shattered the silence.
Sentinel's body contorted, his form expanding with terrifying speed. Wings burst forth from his back, stretching wide, casting a colossal shadow over the battlefield. His once-human frame was now monstrous, his armor morphing into an obsidian exoskeleton. His face twisted into a fearsome gargoyle-like visage, eyes burning like twin infernos. The water beneath him recoiled, rippling away as his presence distorted the air itself.
Zoro's breath hitched. His exhaustion screamed at him to fall, but the sheer malice radiating from Sentinel's new form froze him in place. His grip on his swords trembled—not with fear, but with the bitter realization of his own drained strength.
Sentinel—no, the Tenebrous beast—glared down at him, its eyes devoid of the warrior who had fought with honor moments ago. The beast's wings flared open, and it let out another deafening roar, shaking the very dimension around them.
Zoro clenched his teeth, his fingers tightening around his blades. He was spent. Every muscle in his body burned, his vision blurred, but he refused to back down.
"Damn it.." he muttered. "My body can barely move on its own.."
Zoro exhaled slowly, steeling himself. This wasn't just another fight anymore.
This… was survival.
