Supergirl was currently standing on a stage near the launch site of the Watchtower, since after she'd informed the rest of the Justice League, she'd allowed word of it to spread, since while she'd informed the president as both Supergirl and Kara Danvers, since they couldn't exactly launch a space station from the US without her approval, word had now also spread to the press, scientific community and other world leaders.
Especially when word got out that the Justice League was also using the launch to officially induct new members early, it officially became the place to be. The invite list to the launch was extremely exclusive and only a select number of people were allowed.
Among the people invited were the president of the US, along with leaders of several other nations including Canada, England, France, Russia, Markovia, Quarac, Egypt, Japan, Mexico, China, Atlantis, Hephaestia, Scotland and Ireland, among others.
Since the leaders of Hephaestia and Atlantis were both members of the Justice League, they'd appointed other members of their nations' leadership. Representing Atlantis was its future Queen Mera, who already ruled Atlantis as Arthur's proxy when he was being Aquaman. Representing Hephaestia was the regent in Wonder Woman's place and leader of its current ruling Council, Regent King Jason.
Also in attendance were members of the press, including reporters from nearly every major media outlet in the country and the world. From the Daily Planet was Lois Lane of course, from Catco were Nia Nal and William Dey, from the Central City Citizen was Iris West and many others were attending as well, such as Vicki Vale from the Gotham Chronicle and even Chrissy Beppo from the Smallville Gazette. She still wasn't sure how she'd managed to get an invite to this event.
Also in attendance were members of the three companies involved in building the watchtower, since none of the CEOs were able to attend as themselves, they'd sent proxies in their place. Lena Luthor was there representing Argo Enterprises, Lucius Fox was representing Wayne Enterprises and representing Queen Consolidated was the new head of R , Curtis Holt, though he was the only representative out of the three who didn't know why his boss couldn't attend such a historic event.
Anyways, after Supergirl had gotten confirmation that the last guest had arrived and the Coast City Police Department was holding back civilians who wanted to watch.
"Are you sure it's a good idea for all of us to be here for this? What if the world needs saving?" Flash whispered to Alex as they took their places.
"The Titans and the remainder of our teams are covering for us and honestly, considering how many world leaders are here in the open tonight, I think this is the best place for the League to be, since even a botched assassination attempt could start a war." Alex whispered back and Flash nodded, since that made sense to him.
"Good point. Now I guess the ceremony's starting." Flash said as President Marsdin walked up the stage and joined Sueprgirl at the front of the crowd.
"Thank you all for coming out here today. When I first agreed to do this, I was asked by several members of my administration why I'd agree to announce at the ceremony launching the Justice League's new space station base and my answer is always the same. Because I stand with the Justice League just as they have stood by us. Which is why I was more than happy to allow the Justice League to build their first headquarters in Washington DC to be my neighbors and why I gave them permission to launch this Watchtower into space. And now, before this station is launched into space, the chairwoman and leader of League, Supergirl, would like to say a few words and answer some questions." President Marsdin said as she turned the conference over to the girl of steel.
"Thank you Madam President. The Justice League is thrilled to present the launch of our new orbiting Watchtower and that you've all decided to join us. Now, before we send the station up, I'd like to answer questions that I know people have been asking since word got out about it. And I think I'll start with Ms. Lane from the Daily Planet." Supergirl said.
"Thank you. Supergirl, why is the Justice League trading in the Hall of Justice for the Watchtower?" Lois asked and this was why Kara had allowed Lois to ask the first question, since it was the biggest one.
"Several reasons. The first one being location. We realized that putting our headquarters not only in one nation, but in the US capital, makes it look like the Justice League only protects the US. Having our base orbit the entire planet will help us prove to the world that we're here to protect all of it, not just the country we all live in. Another reason is that putting the Justice League Headquarters in Washington DC makes it a target to our enemies. Not exactly a safe decision and we're not going to endanger the lives of the public by making our base so public." Supergirl said.
"What's going to happen to the Hall of Justice now that it's no longer Justice League Headquarters?" Nia asked.
"Once we've removed everything of value from the Hall of Justice, we'll be decommissioning it and turning it into a museum not only for the Justice League, but for all the heroes who came before us. Kind of a new museum in the Smithsonian." Supergirl said.
"Is the Watchtower a threat to humanity? As in, does it have any weapons that could be used to attack the planet?" Vicki Vale asked.
"No. While the Watchtower is equipped with some minor defenses against space invasions, none of them are capable of aiming down at this planet and we've set up enough failsafes to make sure that if the station ever is somehow knocked out of orbit, it'll land safely in the ocean where no one will get hurt." Supergirl assured them as she answered a few more questions before switching gears.
"And now, if President Marsdin will do the honors, it's time for the thing we all came here to see." Supergirl said as she handed the president the launch switch for the Watchtower, who pressed the button and the crowd cheered as the engines ignited and the station lifted off, a completely successful launch.
The cheering didn't stop until the station was completely out of view and could no longer be heard and both Superman and Supergirl could confirm that it had safely achieved orbit.
"And we are launched. But before you all leave, there is another reason we called this meeting. The Justice League has decided to use this ceremony as an opportunity to officially welcome some new blood to our ranks. As I'm sure you've noticed the three extra heroes standing up here today. By unanimous vote, the Justice League is proud to welcome Blue Beetle, Hawkman and Hawkwoman into our ranks with the presentation of these membership cards." Supergirl said as she handed the cards to their newest members to further cheers.
