Ritchie's Battle Frontier Arc
Chapter 1: New Friends, New Rival, and a Legendary!
Hello everyone, this is the first chapter of the side story which will focus on Ritchie taking on the Battle Frontier. This story has 20 chapters in total, and I hope you all enjoy it!
The chapter begins somewhere in the Kanto region, it's currently nighttime and we see Pokémon running in the forest. The mon continues to run until it reaches a cliff when it does it pants a little bit, then turns around as it sees a Houndoom, Grimmsnarl, and a Mandibuzz staring at it. They continue to look at the mon as 3 people appear having smiles on their faces as one of them speaks.
"We've got you now Marshadow there's nowhere for you to go" The man says as the 3 mons look at Marshadow with the mon looking at them. It wants to battle but knows that it can't take them on as it's too weak. Marshadow then looks behind and sees water below it. Marshadow knows that it's risky but has to take the risk as it then jumps off the cliff. The 3 men have surprised looks on their faces as one of them speaks.
"Mandibuzz after it!" The man calls as the vulture flies down going after Marshadow. Just when it's about to grab the mon Marshadow covers its left fist in electricity and punches the bird knocking it away. After that Marshadow falls in the water as 1 of the 3 men on the cliff speaks.
"We need to go after it!" One of the men says with the other two nodding as they begin running after Marshadow. Meanwhile inside the water Marshadow's letting the water carry it away as it's doing so Marshadow looks forward and sees a Waterfall up ahead. Marshadow gets a worried look on its face but knows that if it tries to swim away from the waterfall then the people up above will catch it. Marshadow takes a deep breath as it then falls from the waterfall and lands into the water below. Meanwhile with the 3 men they see Marshadow fall into the water and can't see it anymore as one of them speaks.
"Do you think it survived?" One of the men asks as another speaks.
"Of course, it survived, and we need to go after it" The man says with the other two nodding and just when they're about to go check they hear police sirens as one of them speaks.
"Crap it's the cops!" One of the men says as another one speaks.
"Let's retreat for now we'll find Marshadow later" The man says with the other two nodding as they return their Pokémon back to their Pokeball's and run away making sure that the police don't catch them. Meanwhile below the waterfall we see Marshadow appear from the surface and swims over to nearby land. Once Marshadow makes it, it gets out of the water. Marshadow groans a little in pain but knows that if it stops now the 3 men will eventually catch up to it, so Marshadow continues walking throughout the night.
It's now the next day and we head over to the Pokémon Center in Cerulean City. Inside the center we see Ritchie along with Sparky. It's been 4 months since the Kanto league and after his battle with Ash a man named Scott came up to Ritchie saying that he should take on the Kanto Battle Frontier Ritchie accepted it and once he came back home in Littleroot Town, he began his training. During the 4 months Ritchie, along with his Pokémon, trained hard every day and a lot of them have fully evolved. At some point Seymour along with Cara Liss came and restored Ritchie's Galar fossils. What appeared from the restoration was a shiny Dracovish. The moment the mon got revived it started running around causing havoc, but Ritchie managed to calm the mon down and named it Jaws because of its powerful biting power. After that Ritchie did a lot of research on the Battle Frontier which included the location of the facilities and the teams that the Frontier Brains used.
Then after 4 months passed Scott contacted Ritchie letting him know that he can now begin his challenge which made Ritchie excited as he took a boat to Vermillion City and headed over to Celadon City. Then when Ritchie made it, he then made his way towards Cerulean City. We now come into present time and see Ritchie and Sparky (who's on Ritchie's right shoulder) looking at a screen that has Prof. Birch on it. Ritchie looks at the man and speaks.
"Hey Prof. Birch, we made it to Cerulean City" Ritchie says with Birch nodding as he speaks.
"That's great to hear Ritchie so did Scott tell you where the first Battle Facility is?" Birch asks with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Yes, he said that the Battle Factory is a 2 day's walk North of Cerulean City and Mt. Moon so we're going to begin heading there after talking with you." Ritchie replies with Birch nodding as after that they then see multiple trainers starting to leave the Pokémon Center as Birch speaks.
"Looks like they're all in a hurry" Birch says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Yeah, I wonder why?" Ritchie says as Nurse Joy then appears and speaks.
"That's because there are reports that there's an Entei somewhere in the nearby forest." Joy says as Ritchie speaks.
"Really?!" Ritchie asks with the woman nodding. Ritchie then looks at Birch and speaks.
"Hey Prof. Birch, I'm going to end the call as I need to see if I can find Entei." Ritchie says with Birch nodding as he speaks.
"I understand Ritchie and be careful as Entei is a legendary Pokémon" Birch says with Ritchie nodding as he then ends the call. When he does that Ritchie quickly runs out of the Pokémon Center and begins heading for the nearby forest. A few minutes later we see Ritchie running through the forest looking for Entei he continues to run until he comes to a stop as he speaks.
"Doesn't seem like Entei's around here maybe it was just a rumor." Ritchie says as Sparky then senses something and speaks.
"Pika, pika" Sparky says catching Ritchie's attention as he speaks.
"Do you sense something Sparky?" Ritchie asks with the mon nodding as the mouse points at the rustling bushes. Ritchie along with Sparky look as a couple seconds later Marshadow appears and falls on the ground. Ritchie along with Sparky get surprised looks on their faces as Ritchie runs over to the mon, when he gets close to it Ritchie picks it up and speaks.
"Hey, are you okay?" Ritchie asks but the mon doesn't respond as it's panting heavily. Ritchie can see that it has scratches all over its body and speaks.
"It's in really bad shape." Ritchie says as he then pulls out a full restore and speaks.
"This is going to sting a little bit." Ritchie says and when he's about to spray it on Marshadow the mon begins to thrash trying to get out of Ritchie's hold as he speaks.
"Hey, hold on I'm only trying to help." Ritchie says as after struggling for a bit more Marshadow looks at Ritchie along with Sparky and doesn't see that they have any intention of hurting it. Marshadow then calms down as Ritchie speaks.
"Looks like you've calmed down now will you let me help you?" Ritchie asks with Marshadow nodding as Ritchie then sprays the Full Restore on the mon. The spray does sting Marshadow a little bit but a couple seconds later it feels okay. Marshadow can see that it's now fully healed as Ritchie speaks.
"There you must feel all better now, right?" Ritchie asks while having a smile on his face with Marshadow nodding as it smiles back at Ritchie making the boy along with Sparky happy. After that Sparky's ears twitch as it looks towards the left Ritchie speaks.
"Do you sense something else Sparky?" Ritchie asks with the mon nodding as a couple seconds later Entei appears. Just when Entei's about to run into Ritchie the mon jumps over him and lands a few feet away as it continues to run. Ritchie has a surprised look on his face as he speaks.
"That was Entei…." Ritchie says to himself as he gets a smile on his face. Ritchie then gently puts Marshadow back on the ground as he looks at the mon and speaks.
"It was nice seeing you, but we got to go now and make sure you take care of yourself." Ritchie says as he stands back up and begins running forward going after Entei. Back with Marshadow, it sees Ritchie run away then runs forward going after him. Back over with Ritchie we see him running through the forest until he reaches a big clearing once he does, he begins looking around and speaks.
"Do you see Entei anywhere Sparky?" Ritchie asks with the mon saying no as suddenly Entei appears behind them. Ritchie along with Sparky quickly turn around as Entei then jumps over them and lands on a rock a few feet away in front of them. Entei looks at the two of them as Ritchie speaks.
"So, Entei you've finally shown yourself." Ritchie says as he then smiles and speaks.
"Entei let's have a battle!" Ritchie says as Sparky jumps off Ritchie's shoulder and lands on the ground looking at Entei and sparking his cheeks. Entei looks at them and nods, accepting their challenge making Ritchie along with Sparky happy as Ritchie speaks.
"Thank you Entei and here we come! Sparky use Thunderbolt" Ritchie calls. Sparky quickly fires out an electric bolt that heads for Entei. Entei doesn't dodge and takes the attack as the electric bolt makes contact. When the electric bolt disappears Entei looks at Ritchie and Sparky while having an unfazed look on its face as Ritchie speaks.
"That didn't do anything" Ritchie says to himself. Meanwhile back in the forest we see Marshadow as it's now hiding in the bushes and is watching Ritchie's battle against Entei. Back to the battle Entei heats up its mouth and fires out a big stream of fire that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky jump in the air to dodge!" Ritchie calls. Sparky quickly jumps in the air and avoids the stream of fire. As Sparky's in the air Entei appears in front of him and has its teeth covered in fire going to bite Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Extreme Speed to dodge!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he quickly descends at a blinding speed and lands back on the ground. Up in the air Entei covers its mouth in fire and fires out a big Fire Blast that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Nasty Plot then Thunder!" Ritchie calls. Sparky sharply increases his special attack power and fires out a big electric bolt that connects with the blast of fire. Once it does the Fire Blast is still easily pushing the Thunder back and is getting closer to Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky quick use Dig!" Ritchie calls. Sparky quickly digs underground dodging the blast of fire as it hits the ground creating a big explosion. When that happens this alerts 3 trainers that are in different parts of the forest as they begin running to where the explosion came from. Back to where Ritchie is Entei lands safely back on the ground as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Wild Charge!" Ritchie calls as out from underneath Entei appears Sparky who has his body covered in electricity and goes to hit Entei, but the mon easily dodges the attack by backing away. Once Entei lands it covers its teeth in fire and jumps forward going to bite Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Extreme Speed to dodge!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he quickly shoots high into the air avoiding Entei's attack. Suddenly Entei appears in front of Sparky surprising the yellow mouse along with Ritchie as Entei covers its left claws in red energy (using Crush Claw) and slaps Sparky hard across the face sending him crashing back down on the ground creating a dust cloud as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the dust clears it showcases Sparky lying on his stomach groaning in pain. Entei then lands back on the ground and begins to heat up its mouth charging up a Flamethrower as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky you need to dodge!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he's trying to stand up but is having a hard time as Entei then launches out a big Flamethrower that heads for Sparky. Ritchie has a worried look on his face as over with Marshadow its about to jump in to help but then notices two people that appear who send out their Pokémon and speak.
"Piplup use Hydro Pump!" "Lucario use Aura Sphere!" The two trainers call as suddenly a Hydro Pump along with an Aura Sphere appear and collide with the Flamethrower creating an explosion. Then when the explosion clears Ritchie looks over at Sparky, sees that he's okay then lets out a relief sigh as he then hears a voice.
"Man, that was a strong Flamethrower" The voice says causing Ritchie to look towards his right as he sees a Piplup and behind the mon is a girl around his age, wearing light grey pants, a blue short sleeve shirt, is carrying a white backpack and has short brown hair. The girl has an excited look on her face as Ritchie then hears another voice.
"So, this is the legendary Pokémon Entei" The voice says as Ritchie turns to his left seeing a Lucario and behind it is a young boy around his age. The boy is wearing black pants, a plain jacket with a green long sleeve shirt underneath and carrying a green backpack. The boy has a serious look on his face as he along with the girl look over at Ritchie. They all have confused looks on their faces as Ritchie speaks.
"Um… Hello…" Ritchie says as the girl smiles, looks forward and speaks.
"Piplup use Hydro Pump again!" The girl calls with Piplup nodding as it fires out a big stream of water from its mouth that heads for Entei. Entei sees the attack coming and smacks it with its left claws easily destroying the attack. The girl has a surprised look on her face as suddenly Lucario appears in front of Entei the boy speaks.
"Use Bone Rush!" The boy calls with Lucario nodding as it summons two bones from its hands and goes to hit Entei. Entei easily evades the attack then heats up its mouth and fires a Flamethrower as the boy speaks.
"Block Lucario!" The boy calls as Lucario quickly brings up its arms and blocks the attack. The stream of fire pushes Lucario into a tree as the boy speaks.
"Are you okay Lucario?" The boy asks with the mon nodding as the girl speaks.
"Piplup use Bubble Beam!" The girl calls with Piplup nodding as it fires out a stream of bubbles that head for Entei, but the mon easily dodges by moving to the right as Ritchie speaks.
"Now use Thunder!" Ritchie calls. Sparky sparks his cheeks and fires out a large electric bolt that hits Entei creating an explosion as Ritche speaks.
"Yes, it landed!" Ritchie says happily as out of the smoke appears Entei who jumps high in the air and lands on a rock. The mon looks at the 3 trainers along with their Pokémon then lets out a roar as it covers its mouth in fire and shoots out a large multicolored flame (Sacred Fire) that heads for the 3 mons as their trainers speak.
"Lucario use Aura Sphere!" "Piplup use Hydro Pump!" "Sparky use Thunder!" The 3 trainers call with their Pokémon nodding as they fire their attacks that collide with the move. The 3 attacks try to push the Sacred Fire back but aren't having any luck with the 3-mons struggling as their trainers speak.
"Keep going Lucario!" "You're almost there Piplup!" "Don't give up Sparky!" The 3 trainers call with the 3-mons nodding as they roar increasing the power of their moves and slightly push the Sacred Fire back which surprises Entei. A couple seconds later there's then a big explosion along with a strong gust of wind that pushes the 3 mons back over to their trainers who manage to catch them. When the wind goes away, and the smoke clears the 3 trainers along with their Pokémon look at Entei who's still on its rock. Entei then lets out a mighty roar and jumps away as Ritchie speaks.
"Wait!" Ritchie says but when he does, Entei disappears. Once it's gone the 3 trainers all have surprised looks on their faces as the girl speaks.
"Aw man it's gone" The girl says as she then looks over at Ritchie and the other boy then speaks.
"If it wasn't for you guys, I would've captured Entei" The girl says while having an angry look on her face as Ritchie speaks.
"Why are you acting like it's our fault? Besides I got here first" Ritchie says as the girl speaks.
"What no way I was here first! And to prove that I was let's have a battle" The girl says while having an annoyed look on her face as Ritchie speaks.
"A battle? Is that really necessary?" Ritchie asks as the girl speaks.
"Of course, it's necessary and if you're a trainer then you should know that" The girl says as Ritchie lets out a sigh and speaks.
"Okay I'll battle you" Ritchie responds making the girl smile as she speaks.
"Looks like you're not a Torchic after all" The girl says as she then looks over at the other boy who's tending to his Lucario and speaks.
"Hey once I beat this kid, I'll take you on too" The girl says making the other boy look at her as he speaks.
"Sorry but I'm not interested in battling also you two should find some shelter as it's going to rain soon" The boy says as he then returns his Lucario back into its Pokeball and walks away. Once he's gone the girl shrugs her shoulders and speaks.
"Looks like he turned out to be a Torchic. Now then" The girl says as she then looks over at Ritchie who begins to speak.
"Seeing as you're the one who challenged me what are the rules for this battle?" Ritchie asks as the girl speaks.
"This is a one-on-one match, and the winner is decided on whoever defeats their opponents Pokémon first." The girl says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Okay that's fine with me and what's your name?" Ritchie asks as the girl speaks.
"My name's Verity and I'm from Celestic Town" Verity says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Celestic Town? That's all the way in the Sinnoh region" Ritchie says with Verity nodding as she speaks.
"Now that I've introduced myself, I think it's your turn now" Verity says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"My name's Ritchie and I come from Littleroot Town" Ritchie responds with Verity nodding as she speaks.
"Littleroot Town? If I remember right that's in the Hoenn region and you said that your name is Ritchie?" Verity asks with Ritchie nodding as she then takes a closer look at Ritchie and speaks.
"Wait are you the Ritchie that battled in the finals of the SS. Anne Tournament and placed Top 16 in the Kanto League?" Verity asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Yep, that's me" Ritchie responds as Verity smiles and speaks.
"Well now things just got more exciting okay Piplup let's go!" Verity says with the penguin nodding as it jumps on the battlefield and looks forward waiting for its opponent as Ritchie speaks.
"So, she's using her Piplup." Ritchie says to himself as he looks at Sparky who nods with Ritchie nodding too as he speaks.
"Sparky you're up!" Ritchie says with the yellow mouse nodding as he jumps on the battlefield and gets in a battle stance as Verity speaks.
"Smart move in using your Pikachu but just because it has the type advantage doesn't mean that it'll defeat my Piplup" Verity says as Ritchie speaks.
"Yep, I know" Ritchie says as Verity speaks.
"Okay then here we come! Piplup use Drill Peck!" Verity calls. Piplup's beak grows longer then shoots forward as it begins to spin Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky counter with Thunder Punch!" Ritchie calls. Sparky covers his right fist in electricity and collides with Piplup creating an explosion. Out of the explosion appears the two mons who're sent sliding away from each other as Verity speaks.
"Not bad. But let's see how you handle this! Piplup use Bubble Beam!" Verity calls. Piplup nods as it begins shooting out a stream of bubbles from its mouth that head for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Thunderbolt!" Ritchie calls. Sparky nods as he sparks his cheeks and fires out an electric bolt that easily cuts through the stream of bubbles and heads for Piplup as Verity speaks.
"Piplup dodge then use Hydro Pump!" Verity calls. Piplup quickly moves to the right and avoids the electric bolt. Piplup then takes a deep breath and fires out a large stream of water that heads for Sparky as Ritche speaks.
"Sparky cut through it with Wild Charge!" Ritchie calls. Sparky covers his body in electricity and runs forward entering the Hydro Pump. While in the Hydro Pump Sparky's easily running through it as then a couple seconds later, he appears out of the move and goes to hit Piplup as Verity speaks.
"Piplup use Protect then Triple Axel!" Verity calls. Piplup quickly summons a protective barrier and blocks Sparky's attack. Then once the barrier goes down Piplup covers its feet in ice, jumps forward and kicks sparky 3 times in the face. Sparky groans a little in pain as Verity speaks.
"Now use Hydro Pump!" "Sparky block!" Both trainers' call. When Piplup fires out the large stream of water from its mouth Sparky quickly brings up his arms and blocks the attack as he's then pushed a few feet away. A couple seconds later the Hydro Pump goes away as Ritchie looks at Sparky and speaks.
"You okay Sparky?" Ritchie asks with the yellow mouse nodding as Ritchie begins to think.
"Her calling for Piplup to use Hydro Pump was a trick as she knew that I'd want to get close for Wild Charge allowing for her to call for Protect and hit Sparky with Triple Axel. It was a good thing I had Sparky block that Hydro Pump otherwise that would've caused a lot of damage to him. So, what do I do now?" Ritchie says to himself as Verity speaks.
"Hey if you're just going to keep thinking then I'm going to keep attacking! Piplup use Bubble Beam!" Verity calls with Piplup nodding as it fires out a stream of bubbles that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky blow them away with Thunder!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he fires out a large electric bolt that easily destroys the stream of bubbles and heads for Piplup as Verity speaks.
"Dodge then use Hydro Pump!" Verity calls. Piplup quickly moves to the right and dodges the electric bolt, Piplup then fires out a large stream of water that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Dig!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he quickly digs underground avoiding Piplup's attack as the move hits something else. Back to the battle Sparky doesn't stay underground for long as he appears from underneath Piplup and goes to uppercut the mon with his right fist as Verity speaks.
"Quick use Protect!" Verity calls. Piplup quickly summons a protective barrier and blocks the attack as Verity smiles and speaks.
"It's over for Sparky! Piplup finish it off with Hydro Pump!" Verity calls with Piplup nodding as it fires out a large stream of water that goes to hit Sparky as Ritchie smirks and speaks.
"Use Extreme Speed to dodge!" Ritchie calls surprising Verity as Sparky quickly shoots high into the air at blinding speed avoiding the attack. Piplup has a surprised look on its face as Verity speaks.
"Piplup Sparky's above you!" Verity says causing the mon to look up as it sees Sparky high in the air and falling towards the mon as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Wild Charge!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he covers his body in electricity and continues falling towards Piplup as Verity speaks.
"That won't work! Piplup use Protect!" "That's not happening! Sparky boost yourself with Extreme Speed!" Both trainers' call. Before Piplup can summon a protective barrier Sparky speeds himself up with Extreme Speed and hits Piplup creating an explosion as Verity speaks.
"Piplup!" Verity calls in worry as when the smoke clears, they can see Sparky standing. He takes some recoil damage but continues to stand while looking at Piplup who's lying on its back and is unconscious. Verity has a surprised look on her face as Ritchie speaks.
"We won!" Ritchie says happily with Sparky cheering too as he then runs over to Ritchie and jumps in his arms with Ritchie hugging him. In the forest with Marshadow the mon has a smile on its face and is happy that Ritchie won. Over with Verity she's still surprised that she lost but then recomposes herself as she smiles and speaks.
"Oh well" Verity says as she returns Piplup back to its Pokeball telling the mon thank you and puts the ball away. Once she does that she walks over to Ritchie and Sparky. When she gets close to them, she looks at the two of them and speaks.
"Well, it's my lost you really are a skilled trainer, and it was a good battle" Verity says as Ritchie speaks.
"Thanks, and we enjoyed it too" Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing making Verity smile as just when they were about to shake hands, they then hear a loud roar. This causes the 2 kids to look behind as they see a big Onix with an angry look on its face. The mon lets out a mighty roar and begins to chase Ritchie and Verity as they run away. Over with Marshadow it quickly goes into the shadows and begins to secretly follow the two trainers. Then in another part of the forest we see a young boy around Ritchie's age with red hair and has a midnight Lycanroc standing next to him. The boy has a serious look on his face as he returns his Lycanroc back to its Pokeball and walks away. Over with Ritchie and Verity we see them sliding down a cliff and reach the bottom as a couple seconds later Onix appears and continues to chase them. As they're running Verity speaks.
"Isn't there a way for Onix to stop chasing us?!" Verity asks as Ritchie looks forward, sees a big rock up ahead and speaks.
"Let's run up that rock!" Ritchie says with Verity nodding as the two trainers quickly run up the rock and reach the top. A couple seconds later Onix easily destroys the rock by running into it causing the two trainers to land on its back. Onix feels them on its back and begins going faster as it starts running into more rocks and is hurting itself as Ritchie speaks.
"Onix stop if you keep doing this, you're going to hurt yourself!" Ritchie says but the giant rock snake ignores him as the mon continues to hurt itself. Ritchie then gets a determined look on his face as he puts Sparky down and speaks.
"I'll be right back" Ritchie says making Sparky along with Verity confused as they see Ritchie running up Onix's back then once he reaches Onix's head Ritchie jumps. Ritchie then lands a few feet in front of Onix, holds out his hands and speaks.
"Onix stop!" Ritchie says but the mon isn't stopping as Verity speaks.
"Piplup come out and use Whirlpool!" Verity calls as she brings Piplup back out who creates a Whirlpool and throws it forward. The move appears in front of Onix causing the mon to come to a complete stop as Ritchie speaks.
"Onix we're sorry that we scared you! Please calm down!" Ritchie says as Onix looks into Ritchie's eyes and sees that he truly is sorry. Onix then lets Sparky along with Verity and Piplup off its back as the rock snake then digs underground disappearing from their sights. Once Onix's gone, Verity looks down the hole and speaks.
"We're sorry Onix and hope you take care!" Verity says with Piplup saying the same thing. After that Ritchie walks over to them as Sparky then climbs back on Ritchie's right shoulder Ritchie looks at Verity and speaks.
"You're Piplup's Whirlpool is what saved us in the end thank you" Ritchie says making Verity look at him as she along with Piplup nod as Verity speaks.
"You know jumping in front of Onix like that was pretty crazy, but it did make my opinion of you improve" Verity says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Yeah, I learned that from another friend of mine who probably would've done the same" Ritchie responds while thinking about Ash with Verity nodding. After that it then begins to rain as Ritchie speaks.
"It's raining" Ritchie says as Verity speaks.
"Looks like that other kid was right" Verity says as it begins to rain harder Ritchie speaks.
"Come on we need to find shelter" Ritchie says with Verity nodding as they begin to run. A few minutes later as they continue to run the rain isn't letting up until Ritchie sees a cave up ahead and speaks.
"There's a cave come on!" Ritchie says with Verity nodding as they quickly run into the cave. Once they make it Sparky along with Piplup shake the water off of their bodies, Ritchie pulls out a towel from his backpack and begins to dry himself then gives it to Verity so that she can do the same. After they're done with that the two trainers then look forward and see the boy from earlier along with his Lucario next to a fire as Verity speaks.
"It's that Lucario kid" Verity says as Ritchie speaks.
"Let's go join him" Ritchie says with Verity nodding as they walk forward. As they're walking this causes the boy and Lucario to look at them as Ritchie speaks.
"Hey, can we join you?" Ritchie asks with the boy nodding, making the two trainers along with their Pokémon happy and continue walking over to him. Then when they make it, they see 5 Pokémon consisting of a Doduo, Fearow, Beedrill, Gloom, and Raticate all laying on blankets and have scratches all over their bodies groaning in pain. The two trainers along with Sparky and Piplup have surprised looks on their faces as Ritchie speaks.
"What happened?" Ritchie asks as the boy speaks.
"I'm not exactly sure myself as while I was looking for shelter, I saw these 5 laying on the ground groaning in pain so me and Lucario brought them into this cave so that we can help them. I already gave them some first aid and medicine so all they need to do now is rest." The boy says with his Lucario nodding as it places a towel on each Pokémon's head making sure they stay warm as Verity speaks.
"Do you think it was Pokémon hunters that attacked these Pokémon?" Verity asks as the boy looks at her and speaks.
"No, because if it was hunters then they would've kept them in cages this was the work of a trainer." The boy responds as Ritchie speaks.
"A trainer huh? I guess that does make sense" Ritchie says as the boy speaks.
"Whoever that trainer is I won't forgive them" The boy says with the others nodding as Ritchie then speaks.
"Oh, I don't think we've introduced ourselves yet, my name is Ritchie, and this is my partner Sparky" Ritchie says as Sparky says hello Verity speaks.
"My name's Verity and this is my partner Piplup" Verity says as Piplup says hello too with the boy nodding as he speaks.
"Yes, I know who you are Ritchie as I've watched your SS. Anne battle along with your battles in the Kanto league. I also know who you are too Verity as I've seen your battles in the Sinnoh Grand Festival" The boy says surprising Ritchie as he speaks.
"Sinnoh Grand Festival? Wait are you a coordinator?" Ritchie asks while looking at Verity as she speaks.
"Yep, you got me" Verity says while having a smile on her face as the boy speaks.
"I should introduce myself too my name is Sorrel I come from Veilstone City, and this is my partner Lucario" Sorrel says as Lucario greets them with the two trainers along with Sparky and Piplup greeting the mon too as Verity speaks.
"Veilstone City's also in the Sinnoh region so it makes sense as to why you know that I competed in the Grand Festival" Verity says with Sorrel nodding as Ritchie speaks.
"How far did you make it?" Ritchie asks as Verity speaks.
"I made it to the Top 8" Verity responds with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"So, is the reason that you're traveling through the Kanto region is to compete in the Kanto Grand Festival?" Ritchie asks with Verity nodding as she speaks.
"That's right I currently have one Kanto ribbon so once we get 4 more and enter the Grand Festival we're going to win this time. Right Piplup?!" Verity says with the penguin nodding as Verity then looks at Sorrel checking up on the 5 mons again. Once he sees that they're okay he walks away as Verity speaks.
"You know Sorrel the way you take care of Pokémon kind of reminds me of Nurse Joy, are you aiming to become a Pokémon Doctor?" Verity asks as she along with Ritchie then sit by the fire, Sorrel looks at her and speaks.
"No, my goal is to become a professor, and you also need to have medical knowledge too" Sorrel responds with Verity nodding as Sorrel continues to speak.
"I'm currently visiting various areas and collecting data on legendary Pokémon" Sorrel responds with the two kids nodding as Verity speaks.
"Then you must've been really excited to have seen Entei earlier." Verity says with Sorrel nodding as he speaks.
"Yes, it was a priceless experience" Sorrel responds as Sorrel then looks over at Ritchie and speaks.
"By the way Ritchie why're you traveling through the Kanto region again is it to re challenge the gym leaders?" Sorrel asks with Verity, being curious too as Ritchie speaks.
"I can see why you'd ask that but I'm not re challenging the gyms as I'm going to take on the Kanto Battle Frontier" Ritchie responds surprising the two kids as Verity speaks.
"The Kanto Battle Frontier?!" Verity says while having a surprised look on her face as Sorrel speaks.
"I've heard that they're on par or even above the Elite 4 members of Kanto are you sure that you can take them on?" Sorrel asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Yes, I can as for the past 4 months I've not only been training my Pokémon but also doing research on the Frontier Brains, so my Pokémon and I are ready." Ritche responds with Sparky nodding as Verity and Sorrel nod too Verity speaks.
"Hey Ritchie if you do manage to defeat the Battle Frontier what will you do after?" Verity asks as Ritchie speaks.
"What I'll do after is head back home to the Hoenn region where I'll take on the gyms and win the league so that I can battle and defeat Steven Stone. Then once that's over I want to take on Red Ketchum in a battle." Ritchie responds surprising the two kids more as Sorrel speaks.
"Those are very ambitious goals" Sorrel says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Yep, but I know that as long as I have Sparky along with my other Pokémon by my side, we can do it" Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing with him making the two trainer's smile. Verity then feels a sudden chill as she speaks.
"It's cold" Verity says as the others feel chilly too Sorrel speaks.
"We should return our Pokémon back to their Pokeball's so that they can stay warm" Sorrel says as he returns his Lucario back to its Pokeball. Ritchie and Verity nod as when they're about to return Sparky and Piplup the two mons decline not wanting to go back as Verity looks at Piplup and speaks.
"Piplup you'll catch a cold if you stay out" Verity says with Ritchie saying the same to Sparky as the two mons continue to decline and lay in their respective trainers' laps. Over with Sorrel his Lucario comes out of its Pokeball, surprising the boy as Sorrel speaks.
"Lucario why did you come out?" Sorrel asks as Lucario gives the boy a look saying that it should be obvious as Lucario sits closer to the boy making sure that he stays warm. Sorrel looks at Lucario and smiles with Verity along with Ritchie smiling too. We then see Marshadow still hiding as it's now in the caves shadow, Marshadow looks at the 3 trainers and has a smile on its face as it then senses something walking towards the cave. Marshadow gets a scared look on its face thinking that it's the 3 men that were chasing it earlier in the chapter and hides. Over with the group they also hear something walking in the cave too as when they go to look, they see Entei again. The 3 trainers along with their Pokémon all have surprised looks on their faces as Verity speaks.
"It's Entei" Verity says as behind the mon they can see a Paris, Rattata, Cubone, Caterpie, and a male and female Nidoran following behind the mon. Entei looks at the group then heads to a nearby rock and lays down with the 6-mons doing the same getting close to Entei so that they can stay warm. Entei then looks at the group one more time and goes asleep with the 6-mons doing the same. The 3 trainers along with their Pokémon are still surprised as Sorrel speaks.
"Before the wonders of nature, people and Pokémon are the same" Sorrel says with the others nodding as Sorrel then looks at Verity and Ritchie then speaks.
"Have you all heard of the legend of how Entei was created?" Sorrel asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Yes, I've read a book about it at Prof. Birch's lab. It's said that long ago in the Johto region there was a tower that caught on fire and killed 3 unnamed Pokémon inside. Then once the rain put out the fire Ho-oh appeared and gave life to the 3 Pokémon who are now called Entei, Raikou, and Suicune" Ritchie says with Sorrel nodding as he speaks.
"Yes, and after that it's said the 3-mons travel around the world protecting Pokémon who're in danger" Sorrel says as he shows an image of the 3 mons on his Pokédex Verity speaks.
"Suicune's my favorite of the 3" Verity says with the two boys nodding as Sorrel speaks.
"Say have any of you ever seen a legendary or mythical Pokémon before? Other than Entei of course" Sorrel asks as Verity thinks for a little bit and speaks.
"Oh, on my way here when I was on a boat, I think I saw a glimpse of a Lugia swimming in the water" Verity says with the others nodding as Sorrel speaks.
"When I was travelling in the Sinnoh region I think I saw a glimpse of a Pokémon called Darkrai before it disappeared" Sorrel says with the two trainers nodding as Verity then looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"What about you Ritchie?" Verity asks as Ritchie begins to think he then remembers Marshadow and speaks.
"Before I battled Entei I ran into a small ghost like Pokémon that stood on two legs it was nothing like any Pokémon I've seen before" Ritchie responds making the two trainers curious as Verity speaks.
"A small ghost like Pokémon that stands on two legs? Could it have been a Sableye?" Verity asks as Ritchie speaks.
"No seeing as I have a Sableye of my own it definitely wasn't one" Ritchie responds as Sorrel speaks.
"Can you go more into detail?" Sorrel asks with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Well not only did it stand on two legs, but it looked more human, and its body was a smokey grey" Ritchie responds with the two trainers nodding as Sorrel thinks for a little bit and speaks.
"I could be wrong, but I think the Pokémon that you ran into was a Marshadow" Sorrel says making the two trainers confused as they speak.
"Marshadow?" Ritchie along with Verity say with Sorrel nodding as he speaks.
"Yes, Marshadow. It is said to be a Pokémon that lives deep in the shadows of people and Pokémon mimicking them. It's also said that Marshadow never appears before humans making its existence into a myth. Which is why it's a mythical Pokémon." Sorrel says with the two trainers nodding as Verity looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"And you really saw one Ritchie?" Verity asks with the boy nodding as he speaks.
"Yeah, there's no way I can forget as it was very injured and seemed to have been running away from something, so I healed it with a Full Restore." Ritchie responds as Sorrel speaks.
"It was probably running away from Pokémon Hunters" Sorrel says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Most likely and I hope that Marshadow made it somewhere safe" Ritchie says with the group nodding. Meanwhile, over with Marshadow it listened to what Ritchie said about it and smiles. Just when Marshadow is about to reveal itself there's then an electric bolt that comes crashing on the ground startling the mon as it goes back into the shadows. Meanwhile, over with the group they've heard the lightning too as Verity speaks.
"It's really coming down out there" Verity says with the others nodding as Ritchie speaks.
"We should probably get some sleep" Ritchie says with the others nodding as they go to sleep. A few hours later it's now the next day and the rain has stopped. We see the group still sleeping and see Marshadow appear next to Ritchie, the mon continues to look at the boy until Ritchie begins to wake up. Marshadow quickly dives back in the shadows as Ritchie fully wakes up, when he does, he lets out a yawn then looks at Sparky who just woke up too and speaks.
"Good morning, Sparky" Ritchie says with the yellow mouse saying good morning too. Ritchie then sees Verity along with Sorrel, Piplup and Lucario wake up too. They all say good morning to each other as Sorrel goes over to the 5 Pokémon that he was taking care of. Sorrel sees that they've made a full recovery, making the boy happy as they then leave the cave and when they're gone Verity looks over at the spot where Entei was at and speaks.
"Looks like Entei along with the Pokémon it brought are already gone" Verity says as Sorrel speaks.
"They must've woken up as soon as the storm cleared" Sorrel says with the others nodding as after that they then pack their things and leave the cave. When they do, they see a big rainbow making the group smile as they then hear a voice.
"Hey you!" The voice says making the 3 trainers along with the 3 mons turn around as they see a boy with a Midnight Lycanroc next to him. When they do the boy looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"Your name's Ritchie, right?" The boy asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Yeah, that's me do I know you?" Ritchie asks as the boy speaks.
"No, you don't my name's Cross and I challenge you to a battle" Cross says surprising the boy as Ritchie speaks.
"Why do you want to battle me?" Ritchie asks as Cross speaks.
"I saw your battle with that girl over there yesterday and also saw your battles in the Kanto League, so I want to test myself against you" Cross responds with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"Okay I accept your challenge" Ritchie says with Cross nodding as they then get into battle positions. When they do the 2 trainers look at each other with Verity, Piplup, Sorrel, and Lucario off to the side while Marshadow's still hiding itself and is watching too. Ritchie along with Cross continue to look at each other as Ritchie speaks.
"So, what're the rules for this battle?" Ritchie asks as Cross speaks.
"This is a 4v4 single battle where we are both allowed to make substitutions and whoever defeats all of their opponents Pokémon first will be declared the winner" Cross says with Ritchie nodding as he pulls out a Pokeball and speaks.
"Okay sounds good to me and now I'll bring out my first Pokémon" Ritchie says as he goes to throw the ball forward.
"Jaws come out!" Ritchie says as he throws the ball forward and sends out his shiny Dracovish. When the mon appears, it lets out a mighty roar then looks forward waiting for its opponent to appear as off to the side Verity speaks.
"Ritchie's first Pokémon is a shiny Dracovish I wonder what Cross is going to send out" Verity says with Sorrel wondering the same. Cross looks at Ritchie's Dracovish, pulls out a Pokeball and speaks.
"Electrode Go!" Cross says as he throws the ball forward and sends out an Hisuian Electrode. The mon has a serious look on its face and looks at Jaws with Jaws looking at it as off to the side Sorrel speaks.
"A Hisuian Electrode is his choice this means that Jaw's water type moves won't work on its as it's both an electric/grass type" Sorrel says with Verity nodding as they continue to watch. Back on the battlefield Ritchie looks at Electrode and begins to think.
"So, that's his first Pokémon I need to make sure I watch out for its electric/grass type moves" Ritchie says to himself as he looks at Jaws and speaks.
"Let's do this Jaws!" Ritchie says with the mon nodding as it along with Electrode get into battle stances" The two mons continue to look at each other as Ritchie speaks.
"Jaws use Dragon Pulse!" Ritchie calls. Jaws covers its mouth in purple draconic energy and fires out a big dragon beam that heads for Electrode as Cross speaks.
"Dodge then use Metal Sound!" Cross calls. Electrode easily avoids the Dragon Pulse by moving to the right then sends out a loud metallic sound that heads for Jaws as Ritchie speaks.
"Jaws use Protect then Earthquake!" Ritchie calls. Jaws quickly summons a protective barrier and blocks the Metal Sound. Jaws then stomps its right foot hard on the ground causing it to shake as Cross speaks.
"Jump in the air to dodge then use Thunder!" Cross calls. Electrode quickly jumps in the air avoiding the Earthquake as it then sparks its body and sends out a large electric bolt that heads for Jaws. Ritchie then speaks.
"Jaws dodge!" Ritchie calls. Jaws quickly moves to the left and dodges the attack as Cross speaks.
"Use Grass Knot!" Cross calls. Electrode quickly summons a grassy knot that appears in front of Jaws left front foot causing the mon to trip on the ground causing damage to it as Cross speaks.
"Now Electroweb!" Cross calls. Electrode fires out an electric net that wraps around Jaws and begins to shock the mon. Jaws is crying out in pain as Cross speaks.
"Use Thunder!" "Jaws use Hyper Beam!" Both trainers' call. Electrode roars as out of the sky appears a large electric bolt that heads for Jaws. As Jaws continues to be shocked by the Electroweb, it then looks to the sky and roars firing out a large orange beam that easily destroys the net and collides with the Thunder creating an explosion. Jaws then stands back up as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Earthquake!" Ritchie calls. Jaws lets out a roar as he stomps on the ground causing it to shake as Cross speaks.
"Jump in the air to dodge Electrode!" Cross calls with Electrode nodding as it quickly jumps in the air avoiding the attack Ritchie then smirks and speaks.
"Now use Dragon Pulse!" Ritchie calls surprising Cross as Jaws lets out a roar firing out a large dragon beam that consumes Electrode creating an explosion. Out of the smoke appears Electrode who falls back down on the ground groaning in pain as Ritchie speaks.
"Good job Jaws! Now use Ice Fang!" Ritchie calls with Jaws nodding as it covers its teeth in ice and jumps forward going to bite down on Electrode Cross speaks.
"You idiot. Electrode use Metal Sound then Thunder!" Cross calls surprising Ritchie as when Jaws is about to bite down on Electrode the mon quickly fires out a metallic sound that connects with Jaws making it stop. Jaws can feel that its special defense has lowered as Electrode then lets out a roar summoning a large electric bolt that comes from the sky, shocking Jaws and create an explosion as Ritchie speaks.
"Jaws!" Ritchie calls in worry as out of the smoke appears Jaws who's sent flying back and lands on its back a few feet away" Jaws is groaning in pain as Cross speaks.
"Now Electrode use Chloroblast!" Cross calls with Electrode nodding as it fires out a large beam of grassy energy that heads for Jaws as Ritchie speaks.
"Jaws quick use Protect!" Ritchie calls. Jaws nods as it quickly summons a protective barrier and begins to block the beam. As Jaws is doing that it can see that the barrier's starting to crack as Ritchie speaks.
"Hang in there Jaws!" "Pika!" Ritchie along with Sparky cheer with Jaws nodding as it manages to reform the barrier there's then an explosion. When the explosion clears Jaws is panting heavily as it didn't fully protect itself from the blast Ritchie speaks.
"Good job Jaws!" Ritchie says with the mon nodding as suddenly Electrode appears in front of the mon Cross speaks.
"Use Explosion!" Cross calls with Electrode nodding as it begins to glow a bright white going to explode. Ritchie has a surprised look on his face, but he then smiles and speaks.
"Jaws use Endure!" Ritchie calls. "It knows Endure?!" Cross says in surprise as back on the battlefield Jaws readies itself as a couple seconds later Electrode fully explodes creating a large explosion that consumes Jaws in the process. There's also a big gust of wind that tries to blow everyone away, but they all stand their ground. Then when the wind goes away everyone can see a big cloud of smoke on the battlefield. A couple seconds later when the smoke disappears everyone can see Jaws still standing while panting heavily as it looks at the unconscious Electrode. Ritchie then speaks.
"Alright we got the first victory!" "Pika!" Ritchie along with Sparky cheer while Jaws roars in victory. Off to the side Verity speaks.
"Looks like the first win goes to Ritchie" Verity says with Sorrel nodding. Back on the battlefield Cross returns Electrode back to its Pokeball and puts the ball away. Cross then pulls out his next Pokeball and speaks.
"Go! Serperior!" Cross says as he throws the ball forward and sends out a Serperior. When the mon appears, it has a serious look on its face as Ritchie begins to think.
"A Serperior's his next choice, Jaws took a lot of damage from that explosion I should return him." Ritchie says to himself as when he's about to return Jaws back to its Pokeball Cross speaks.
"Use Mean Look!" Cross calls. Serperior's eyes glow as it sends out a ghostly figure that wraps around Jaws making the mon unable to return" Ritchie has a surprised look on his face as Cross speaks.
"Now use Dragon Pulse!" Cross calls. Serperior covers its mouth in purple draconic energy and roars sending out a large Dragon Pulse that heads for Jaws as Ritchie speaks.
"Destroy it with Ice Fang!" Ritchie calls. Jaws covers its teeth in ice and bites down on the dragon beam easily destroying it. Once it does that, suddenly Serperior appears in front of the mon as Cross speaks.
"Use Dragon Tail!" "Jaws use Protect then Ice Fang!" Both trainers' call. Serperior covers its tail in green dragon energy and goes to hit Jaws. Jaws quickly summons a protective barrier blocking the attack and bounces the tail away. Jaws then covers its teeth in ice and goes to bite down on Serperior as Cross speaks.
"Dodge and muzzle it!" Cross calls with Serperior nodding as it easily dodges Jaws attack by moving to the right then uses its tail to wrap around Jaws's mouth and closing it shut. Jaws begins trying to open its mouth but Serperior's holding on strong and opens its mouth as Cross speaks.
"Now use Dragon Pulse!" "Jaws use Endure!" Both trainers' call. Before Jaws can use Endure Serperior lets out a roar and fires out a big Dragon Pulse that collides with the mon creating an explosion as Ritchie speaks.
"Jaws!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the smoke clears Serperior unwraps its tail around Jaws's mouth as the mon then falls on its stomach and is knocked out. Ritche's surprised but then recomposes himself and returns the mon back to its Pokeball. Ritchie tells Jaws thank you and puts the ball back on his belt as Cross speaks.
"So, who's next?" Cross asks as Ritchie looks at him, pulls out a Pokeball and speaks.
"This one! Gecko come out!" Ritchie calls as he throws the ball forward and sends out his Sceptile. Once the mon appears he has a serious look on his face and looks over at Serperior with the grass snake looking at him. Off to the side Verity speaks.
"Now it's going to be a battle between two grass types" Verity says with Sorrel nodding. Back on the battlefield Ritchie looks at Gecko and speaks.
"Gecko let's get revenge for Jaws!" "Pika!" Ritchie along with Sparky say with Gecko nodding as he along with Serperior get into battle stances. The two mons along with their trainers continue to look at each other as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko use Acrobatics!" Ritchie calls. Gecko's body glows in blue flying energy and shoots forward heading for Serperior as Cross speaks.
"Dragon Tail!" Cross calls. Serperior covers its tail in green dragon energy and collides with Gecko. The two mons begin going back and forth trying to overpower the other until they then slide away from each other. Cross then calls for his next command.
"Use Dragon Pulse!" Cross calls. Serperior manages to stop itself and fires out a large dragon beam from its mouth that heads for Gecko as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Dig!" Ritchie calls. Gecko nods as he quickly digs underground and dodges the dragon beam causing it to hit the ground instead. A couple seconds later Gecko appears out from underneath Serperior and uppercuts the mon with his left fist causing some damage to it. Serperior groans a little in pain then looks at Gecko as Cross speaks.
"Use Glare then Aerial Ace!" Cross calls. Serperior glares at Gecko and instantly paralyzes the mon. Serperior then shoots forward at a fast speed and hits Gecko hard in the stomach causing super effective damage making Gecko cough in pain. Gecko's sent flying as he lands back on the ground a few feet away Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the dust clears Gecko's shown to be laying on his back groaning in pain but then looks over at Serperior as Cross speaks.
"Now use Swords Dance then Dragon Tail!" Cross calls. Serperior sharply increases its physical attack power then jumps forward reaching Gecko instantly. Serperior covers its tail in green dragon energy and goes to hit Gecko as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko quick use Detect to dodge then use Acrobatics!" Ritchie calls. Gecko's right eye glows as he manages to narrowly dodge Serperior's attack causing the snake to slam its tail hard on the ground. Once Gecko gets a safe enough distance away his body glows in blue flying energy, shoots forward and begins hitting Serperior repeatedly with each hit doing more damage than the last causing super effective damage. Gecko then hits Serperior one more time and sends the mon sliding back a few feet away as Ritchie speaks.
"Good job Gecko now use Swords Dance then Acrobatics again!" Ritchie calls with Gecko nodding as he sharply increases his physical attack power, glows in blue flying energy and shoots forward heading for Serperior. As Gecko's getting closer Cross speaks.
"Use Twister!" Cross calls. Serperior lets out a mighty roar summoning a large Tornado that's filled with dragon energy and consumes Gecko. Inside the Twister Gecko's being spun around groaning in pain until the Twister goes away. Gecko's now high in the air as Serperior then appears in front of him Cross speaks.
"Use Swords Dance then Iron Tail!" "Gecko use Detect to dodge!" Both trainers' call. Unfortunately for Ritchie Gecko's unable to use Detect because of the paralysis as Serperior sharply increases its physical attack power, covers its tail in steel energy and slams it hard onto Gecko's stomach. Gecko coughs in pain and is sent crashing down on the ground creating a dust cloud as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the dust clears Gecko's lying on his back and is groaning in pain Cross then speaks.
"Now use Aerial Ace!" Cross calls. Serperior nods as it shoots downward at a fast speed going to hit Gecko as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko quick use Dig!" Ritchie calls. Gecko quickly digs underground and dodges Serperior's attack causing the grass snake to hit the ground instead. Serperior stands up, shakes its head and can feel Gecko moving underneath the ground as Cross speaks.
"Serperior when Gecko comes out dodge and use Aerial Ace!" Cross calls with Serperior nodding as it begins to wait for Gecko to appear from the ground. Over with Ritchie he has a smile on his face and speaks.
"What makes you think that Gecko's going to come out of the ground?" Ritchie asks making Cross confused at first but then realizes what he means and is about to call for a command, but Ritchie speaks first.
"Gecko use Leaf Storm!" Ritchie calls as suddenly a large storm of leaves appear out from underneath Serperior consuming the mon and causing damage to it. Serperior groans in pain and is launched high into the air. Back on the ground Gecko appears back out and jumps towards Serperior as Ritchie speaks.
"Now use Acrobatics!" "Serperior dodge!" Both trainers' call. Before Serperior can dodge Gecko speeds up and begins hitting Serperior back and forth causing super effective damage to the mon. Then once Gecko stops he looks at Serperior with the leaves on his arms glowing Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko finish it off with Leaf Blade!" "Serperior counter with Dragon Tail!" Both trainers' call. Unfortunately for Cross Serperior's unable to use the move in time as Gecko turns the leaves on his arms into grassy blades, slashes Serperior and lands back on the ground. Serperior groans in pain as it then falls back on the ground creating a dust cloud. When the dust clears everyone can see Serperior laying on its stomach and is knocked out as Ritchie speaks.
"Way to go Gecko!" "Pika!" Ritchie along with Sparky cheer with Gecko nodding. Over to the side Verity speaks.
"Nice Ritchie took out another one of his Pokémon" Verity says with Sorrel agreeing. Over with Cross he returns Serperior back to its Pokeball and puts the ball away. Cross then looks at his Midnight Lycanroc and speaks.
"Go" Cross says with the mon nodding as it walks on the battlefield and glares at Gecko with the grass gecko glaring back as Ritchie speaks.
"So, his Lycanroc is next even though Gecko's tired/paralyzed he should still be faster allowing for him to land his attacks." Ritchie says to himself as he looks at Gecko and speaks.
"Gecko I'm keeping you in!" Ritchie says with Gecko nodding as he along with Lycanroc get into battle stances. The two mons look at each other as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko use Leaf Storm!" Ritchie calls with the mon nodding as he roars and sends out a big storm of leaves that heads for Lycanroc as Cross speaks.
"Dodge!" Cross calls with the mon nodding as it moves to the right easily avoiding the storm of leaves. Once Lycanroc does that it feels something moving underneath the ground as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Dig!" Ritchie calls as out of the ground appears Gecko who upper cuts Lycanroc with his left fist causing super effective damage. Off to the side Sorrel speaks.
"Ritchie knew that Cross was going to have his Lycanroc dodge and had Gecko use Dig to land a hit on Lycanroc." Sorrel says with Verity nodding as back on the battlefield Lycanroc groans in pain as Ritchie speaks.
"Great job Gecko now use Leaf Blade!" Ritchie calls with Gecko nodding as he turns the leaves on his right arm into a grassy blade and goes to hit Lycanroc as Cross speaks.
"Use Protect then Fire Punch!" Cross calls. Lycanroc summons a protective barrier and blocks the attack causing it to bounce away. Lycanroc then covers its right fist in fire and goes to punch Gecko as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Detect!" Ritchie calls. Gecko's right eye glows and manages to back away dodging Lycanroc's attack. Cross isn't fazed as he calls for his command.
"Grab it with your left hand and pull it in close!" Cross calls with the wolf nodding as it grabs Gecko's right hand with its left hand and pulls the mon closer. Lycanroc then gets its teeth ready as Cross speaks.
"Now use Fire Fang!" "Gecko use Leaf Storm!" Both trainers' call. Gecko's unable to use Leaf Storm in time as Lycanroc covers its teeth in fire and bites down hard on Gecko's left shoulder. The flames spread throughout Gecko's body burning the mon making him cry out in pain as Ritchie speaks.
"Gecko!" Ritchie calls in worry as a few seconds later the flames go away. Lycanroc lets go of Gecko as the mon falls on his back and is knocked out. Ritchie has a surprised look on his face as Off to the side Verity speaks.
"His Sceptile lost" Verity says with Sorrel nodding. Back on the battlefield Ritchie recomposes himself and returns Gecko back to his Pokeball. Ritchie tells the mon thank you and puts the ball back on his belt as Cross speaks.
"So, who's next?" Cross asks making Ritchie look at him as he then looks at Sparky who nods. Ritchie then looks forward and speaks.
"Sparky, I choose you!" Richie says with the yellow mouse nodding as he immediately jumps on the battlefield and looks at Lycanroc with the wolf looking back at him as Cross speaks.
"So, a Pikachu's your next choice" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky may be a Pikachu, but you better not underestimate him!" Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing with him as Cross speaks.
"I wasn't planning to" Cross responds as his Lycanroc along with Sparky get into battle stances. The two mons continue to look at each other as Ritchie speaks.
"Let's go Sparky! Use Thunderbolt!" Ritchie calls. Sparky instantly fires out the electric bolt as Cross speaks.
"Use Fire Fang!" Cross calls with the wolf nodding as it covers its teeth in fire and bites down on the electric bolt easily destroying it. When that happens Sparky suddenly appears in front of Lycanroc as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Iron Tail!" Ritchie calls. Sparky covers his tail in steel energy and hits Lycanroc hard in the face causing super effective damage. Lycanroc groans in pain then looks at Sparky as Cross speaks.
"Use Counter!" "Sparky use Extreme Speed to dodge then use Dig!" Both trainers' call. Lycanroc's right fist glows orange and goes to punch Sparky but the yellow mouse quickly backs away at blinding speed dodging the attack. Sparky then quickly digs underground and heads for Lycanroc as Cross speaks.
"Back away Lycanroc!" Cross calls with the wolf nodding as it quickly jumps back as Sparky appears from out of the ground missing his attack. Lycanroc lands a few feet away as Cross speaks.
"Use Stone Edge!" Cross calls. Lycanroc summons a large sharp stone and quickly throws it at Sparky hitting the mon. Sparky's sent flying and falls back on the battlefield landing on his back as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky!" Richie calls in worry as Sparky's groaning in pain Cross speaks.
"Now finish it off with Mega Punch!" Cross calls. Lycanroc nods as it jumps forward, its left fist glows and goes to punch Sparky as Ritchie smiles and speaks.
"You just fell for our trap! Sparky use Surf!" Ritchie calls surprising Cross as over with Sparky he sees Lycanroc going to punch him and smiles as he lets out a loud "PIKA!". Sparky summons a large wave of water that consumes Lycanroc causing super effective damage to the mon and pushing it away. Sparky stands back up and begins sparking his cheeks as Ritchie speaks.
"Now Sparky use Thunder!" "Lycanroc use Protect!" Both trainers' call. Unfortunately for Cross Lycanroc's unable to use Protect in time as Sparky fires out a large electric bolt that makes contact with Lycanroc and begins to shock it. The wolf roars out in pain until there's an explosion, when the explosion clears we can see Lycanroc wobbling back and forth as Ritchie speaks.
"Nice that worked!" Ritchie says happily as Cross speaks.
"Use Toxic!" Cross calls as Lycanroc quickly spits out a toxic blob from its mouth that makes contact with Sparky causing him to cough. Ritchie has a surprised look on his face as over with Lycanroc, the mon smirks then closes its eyes as it falls down landing on its stomach and is knocked out. Off to the side Sorrel speaks.
"Before fainting his Lycanroc managed to poison Sparky with Toxic I've never seen a Lycanroc do that before." Sorrel says as Verity speaks.
"He must've really trained it to do that tactic before it faints." Verity says with Sorrel nodding. Back on the battlefield Cross returns Lycanroc back to its Pokeball then puts the ball back on his belt. Cross then pulls out his last Pokeball and speaks.
"This right here is my strongest Pokémon once it comes out my victory is all but confirmed." Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"We'll see about that!" Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing with him making Cross smirk as he speaks.
"Incineroar come out!" Cross says as he throws the ball forward and sends out an Incineroar. Once the mon appears it lets out a mighty roar creating a shockwave showcasing its power. Incineroar then looks at Sparky and has a serious look on its face with Sparky looking at it as Ritchie speaks.
"So, an Incineroar's his last one and it looks really strong." Ritchie says to himself as he looks at Sparky who's groaning in pain from the poison and begins to think.
"Sparky's now suffering poison damage because of Lycanroc but with his speed along with Surf he should still be able to take down Incineroar" Ritchie says to himself as he looks at Sparky and speaks.
"Sparky let's keep going!" Ritchie says with Sparky nodding as he gets in a battle stance Cross speaks.
"So, you're keeping in your Pikachu. Incineroar will make quick work of it." Cross says with his Incineroar nodding as it gets in a battle stance too. Ritchie then calls for a command.
"Sparky use Surf!" Ritchie calls. Sparky gains a blue outline and summons a large wave of water that heads for Incineroar as Cross speaks.
"How predictable. Incineroar use Darkest Lariat!" Cross calls. Incineroar covers its hands in dark fire and spins easily getting rid of the Surf. Once Incineroar does that Sparky suddenly appears in front of the mon as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Nasty Plot then Thunder!" Ritchie calls with Sparky nodding as he sharply increases his special attack power and fires out a large Thunder as Cross speaks.
"Block Incineroar!" Cross calls. Incineroar quickly brings up its arms as the Thunder connects creating an explosion. Incineroar's sent sliding back a few feet away as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Nasty Plot again and use Surf!" Ritchie calls. Sparky nods as he's about to use the moves he stops as he begins to cough from poison damage. Cross along with his Incineroar see this as Cross speaks.
"Use Flamethrower!" Cross calls. His Incineroar fires out a big stream of fire from its belt that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky dodge then use Thunder!" Ritchie calls. Sparky nods as he quickly jumps in the air avoiding the stream of fire and fires out a large electric bolt that heads for Incineroar as Cross speaks.
"Dodge then use Fire Blast!" Cross calls. Incineroar quickly moves to the right and avoids the electric bolt. Incineroar's belt heats up and fires out a large blast of fire that heads for Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky use Extreme Speed to dodge!" Ritchie calls. Up in the air Sparky's about to use Extreme Speed but the poison stops him and allows for the Fire Blast to hit him creating an explosion. Ritchie then speaks.
"Sparky!" Ritchie calls in worry as out of the smoke appears Sparky who's falling towards the ground Cross speaks.
"Finish it with Giga Impact!" "Sparky look out!" Both trainers' call. Incineroar covers its body in an orange sphere with purple streaks and shoots forward. Sparky's unable to dodge in time as Incineroar hits the mon and sends him flying. Sparky crash lands in front of Ritchie creating a dust cloud as Ritchie speaks.
"Sparky!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the dust clears it showcases Sparky lying on his back knocked out. Ritchie has a surprised look on his face as over with Verity and Sorrel Verity speaks.
"Sparky lost too." Verity says as Sorrel speaks.
"And now they're both down to their last Pokémon" Sorrel says as back on the battlefield Ritchie picks up Sparky and looks at him. Sparky opens his eyes and looks at Ritchie telling him sorry as Ritchie speaks.
"It's okay Sparky you did your best" Ritchie says with Sparky nodding as Ritchie then puts the yellow mouse back down on the ground then looks over at Cross who speaks.
"It was a mistake to leave your Pikachu in" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"Yeah, it wasn't my best idea but even though Sparky lost, he allowed me to see how strong your Incineroar is, and I have the perfect Pokémon to use against it." Ritchie responds as he pulls out his next Pokeball making Cross interested as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony, Go!" Ritchie says as he throws the ball forward and sends out his shiny Incineroar. When the mon appears, he lets out a mighty roar creating a shockwave of his own. Once Tony's done roaring, he looks at Cross's Incineroar and gets a serious look on his face with Cross's Incineroar having the same look. Cross then speaks.
"You're using your Incineroar huh? Do you really think that it'll take mine down?" Cross asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Yes, I do!" Ritchie responds with Tony nodding as Cross speaks.
"Okay then come at us" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"With pleasure. Tony use Flamethrower!" Ritchie calls with Tony nodding as his belt heats up and sends out a large stream of fire that makes contact with Cross's Incineroar creating an explosion. When the smoke clears it showcases Incineroar groaning a little in pain as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony use Mega Punch!" Ritchie calls as Tony's right fist glows, jumps forward and punches Incineroar hard across the face causing more damage to the mon as Cross speaks.
"Use Throat Chop!" "Tony dodge!" Both trainers' call. Incineroar covers its right claws in dark energy and goes to upper cut Tony, but the mon quickly backs away as Ritchie speaks.
"Use Fire Blast!" Ritchie calls. Tony's belt heats up and fires out a large blast of fire that heads for Incineroar and collides with it creating an explosion. Out of the explosion appears Incineroar who's sent flying and falls on the ground landing on its back. The mon is groaning in pain but then stands back up as Ritchie speaks.
"Looks like that did some damage" Ritchie says to himself as off to the side Verity speaks.
"Wow Ritchie's Incineroar is doing great if it keeps this up it'll be able to take out Cross's Incineroar" Verity says with her Piplup agreeing with her. Over with Sorrel and his Lucario they continue to watch in silence. Back on the battlefield Cross's Incineroar continues to groan in pain as Cross speaks.
"Incineroar are you ready?" Cross asks with the mon nodding making Cross smile as Ritchie speaks.
"Okay Tony let's end this with our next attack!" Ritchie says with Tony agreeing with him as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony use Flamethrower!" Ritchie calls. Tony nods as his belt heats up and fires out a large stream of fire that heads for Incineroar as Cross speaks.
"Counter with Fire Blast!" Cross calls. Incineroar's belt heats up as a big blast of fire appears and collides with the Flamethrower. The Fire Blast overpowers it and heads for Tony as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony dodge!" Ritchie calls with the mon nodding as he moves to the right and dodges the blast of fire. Once Tony does that Incineroar suddenly appears in front of him and is glowing orange as Cross speaks.
"Use Reversal!" Cross calls. The orange aura goes into Incineroar's left fist and punches Tony hard in the face causing super effective damage. Tony's sent flying a few feet away then lands on the ground creating a dust cloud as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the dust clears, it shows Tony lying on his back but then stands back up. Once Tony stands up, he groans in pain then looks over at Incineroar who has a smile on its face as Sorrel speaks.
"I get it now Cross was letting his Incineroar take those hits on purpose as when its health got low enough, he called for Reversal which doubles in power when the user's health gets low." Sorrel says with Verity nodding. Back on the battlefield Ritchie thinks.
"I wasn't thinking that he would call for Reversal I should've known when his Incineroar wasn't fighting back." Ritchie says to himself as Cross speaks.
"What are you spacing out for? Incineroar use Cross Chop!" Cross calls. Incineroar nods as it jumps forward having its arms in an X shape and goes to hit Tony as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony dodge then use Fire Blast!" Ritchie calls. Tony quickly jumps back avoiding Incineroar's attack. Tony lands a few feet away and fires out a large blast of fire that heads for Incineroar as Cross speaks.
"Use Giga impact then Reversal!" Cross calls. Incineroar covers its body in an orange sphere with purple streaks and shoots forward. Incineroar easily breaks through the Fire Blast, its left fist glows in orange energy and punches Tony hard in the face with its left fist. Tony's sent sliding back a few feet away and groans in pain as Cross speaks.
"Now use Fire Blast!" Cross calls. Incineroar fires out a big blast of fire that heads for Tony as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony use Darkest Lariat!" Ritchie calls. Tony quickly covers his hands in a yellow fire and spins easily getting rid of the Fire Blast. Once Tony does that, he along with Ritchie look forward and don't see Incineroar as Verity speaks.
"Ritchie look up!" Verity calls making Ritchie along with Tony look up as they see Cross's Incineroar up in the air and falling towards Tony as Cross speaks.
"Use Bulk Up and Heat Crash!" "Tony dodge!" Both trainers' call. Cross's Incineroar bulks up its body increasing its attack/defense power, covers its body in fire and hits Tony before he could dodge creating an explosion as Ritchie speaks.
"Tony!" Ritchie calls in worry as when the smoke clears everyone can see Incineroar standing while looking at Tony who's on the ground lying on his back. Tony tries to stand back up but ultimately stays down making Cross the winner. Cross smirks while his Incineroar roars in victory. Ritchie along with Sparky have surprised looks on their faces as off to the side Verity speaks.
"Aw Ritchie lost" Verity says with the others nodding and still hidden in the shadows Marshadow's sad that Ritchie lost too. Back on the battlefield Cross returns Incineroar back to its Pokeball as he then looks forward and sees Ritchie along with Sparky reach Tony. When they do, Ritchie gently lifts up Tony's head causing the mon to look at him as Ritchie speaks.
"Hey Tony, are you okay?" Ritchie asks with the mon nodding and tells Ritchie sorry that he lost as Ritchie speaks.
"It's okay Tony you along with everyone else did great take a good rest." Ritchie says with Tony nodding as he goes back in his Pokeball. When that happens, Ritchie puts the ball away and stands back up as suddenly Cross appears in front of him. Cross looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"When you say things like that it makes sense as to why you lost" Cross says making Ritchie look at him as he speaks.
"What do you mean? I was just telling Tony he did great in the battle" Ritchie asks as Cross scoffs and speaks.
"You call that great? His performance in that battle was terrible not to mention you not realizing why my Incineroar was taking attacks until much later and here I thought you were smart. I guess Tyson and Scott were wrong about you" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"Wait you know Tyson and Scott?" Ritchie asks as Cross speaks.
"Yes, I lost to Tyson in the finals of the Johto league and Scott came up to me saying that I should take on the Kanto Battle Frontier." Cross says with Ritchie nodding as he speaks.
"I see so that's why then that makes us rivals as I'm also taking on the Kanto Battle Frontier too" Ritchie says as Cross speaks.
"Rivals? Please, you're no rival of mine with the skill and strength you showed in this battle. Though I'll admit your Pokémon were better punching bags than those 5 weaklings I battled yesterday" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"5 weaklings? Wait! Were you the one that injured the Pokémon that Sorrel was taking care of yesterday?!" Ritchie asks as Cross speaks.
"Probably" Cross responds surprising the 3 trainers along with Sparky as Ritchie then gets angry and speaks.
"Do you know what kind of condition you put them in?! Because if Sorrel didn't find them, they probably would've died yesterday!" Ritchie says as Cross speaks.
"And? That would just showcase just how weak they are." Cross says as Verity speaks.
"How could you say that?!" Verity exclaims as Sorrel speaks.
"Don't you have any care for the wellbeing of Pokémon?!" Sorrel exclaims too as Cross looks at them and speaks.
"Why should I care about the wellbeing of weaklings?" Cross responds making the group angry as Ritchie then grabs Cross's collar with his right hand and forms a fist with his left hand going to punch the boy. Cross looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"Well, are you going to punch me or not?" Cross asks making Ritchie angrier as when he's about to punch him Ritchie stops himself and lets Cross go. When Ritchie does that Cross looks at him and speaks.
"Just as I thought you are a weakling after all" Cross says as Ritchie speaks.
"No, I just decided that hitting you wouldn't prove anything because instead I'm going to show you just how wrong you are in our next battle" Ritchie says while having a serious look on his face as Cross smirks and speaks.
"You really think you're going to beat me in our next battle? Hah! What a joke you'll never beat me, and I'll show you by winning the Battle Frontier first and then crushing you in our next battle." Cross says while having a confident look on his face and making the others angry as Cross speaks.
"Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go get my first Frontier symbol. So long Weakling." Cross says as he then walks away. Once Cross is gone Verity along with Sorrel run over to Ritchie as when they get close to him Verity speaks.
"Man, what a jerk" Verity says as Sorrel speaks.
"I agree I've never seen someone treat Pokémon as horrible as him." Sorrel says as Verity looks at Ritchie and speaks.
"Ritchie are you okay?" Verity asks as Ritchie calms himself down and speaks.
"Yeah, I'm fine I also don't like his view on Pokémon either but what he said did have some truth as I did make mistakes in my battle against him." Ritchie says as Verity speaks.
"True you did make mistakes that caused you to lose but you're a much better trainer than him." Verity says with Sorrel agreeing with her as Ritchie speaks.
"Thanks, and that's why the next time I battle him I'll show him that his view on Pokémon is wrong. Right Sparky?" Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing with him and making the others smile. After that they then head over to the Pokémon Center where Ritchie healed his Pokémon. When Ritchie was done with that, he along with Sparky then leave the center and begin walking away as they then hear a voice.
"Ritchie Wait!" The voice says making Ritchie along with Sparky turn around as they see Verity along with Sorrel. Ritchie and Sparky look at them as Ritchie speaks.
"Did you guys need something?" Ritchie asks as Verity speaks.
"Well, me and Sorrel were talking and were wondering if you'd let us join you on your journey?" Verity asks surprising Ritchie and Sparky as Ritchie speaks.
"You want to join us?" Ritchie asks as Verity speaks.
"Yep, seeing as you're taking on the Battle Frontier a few of the contest halls are close by so I figured that I'd travel with you as it would be more fun to travel together." Verity responds as Sorrel speaks.
"The reason I want to travel with you is that I feel as though I'll be able to see more legendary/mythical Pokémon which would help me further my goal in becoming a Pokémon Professor." Sorrel says with Ritchie nodding as Verity speaks.
"So, what do you say Ritchie? And if you decide that you want to travel by yourself then we understand." Verity says with Sorrel agreeing with her. Over with Ritchie he begins to think and after thinking for a few more seconds he then smiles and speaks.
"Sure, I don't mind you guys traveling with us as it could be fun." Ritchie says with Sparky agreeing with him making Verity and Sorrel happy as Verity speaks.
"Thank you, Ritchie!" Verity says happily with Sorrel nodding as they both have smiles on their faces with Ritchie smiling too. Sorrel then speaks.
"So, Ritchie which battle facility are you heading too first?" Sorrel asks as Ritchie speaks.
"Scott told me that the Battle Factory is a 2 day walk from here so that's where I'm heading to first." Ritchie responds with the two kids nodding as Verity speaks.
"Alright then let's go!" Verity says happily with the others nodding as they all begin walking forward. As they are walking Marshadow is still secretly watching them then dives into Ritchie's shadow. Marshadow doesn't want to reveal itself to Ritchie just yet and just wants to watch him. After that we see the 3 trainers along with Sparky walking forward and happily talking to each other as the chapter comes to an end.
Thank you for reading if you've made it this far. I bet you're all wondering as to why I'm making a story about Ritchie taking on the Battle Frontier. It's because I always wanted Ritchie to have a more prominent role in the main anime and since his goal in my story is for him to become the new champion of Hoenn and battle Ash's father Red I figured that he needed something to showcase just how strong he's going to get. I decided to have Verity along with Sorrel travel with Ritchie as while yes, I could've had him travel by himself, but I felt as though it would've been pretty boring. Cross is Ritchie's rival in this story and has proven to be pretty formidable do you think that Ritchie will be able to defeat him?
Marshadow won't be doing much as it'll just stay in the background to continue to observe Ritchie. Also, even though Ritchie's taking on the Battle Frontier the group will also run into an evil team that'll be introduced in the next chapter. Can you guys guess who it is?
As for the next chapter, it'll release on the same day as this one. The release schedule for this story isn't going to be week to week like how it is with my Pokémon Anime What If story as chapters will be released once a month but there will be some chapters that will be released week to week as well. It's pretty confusing I know but it's mainly to coincide with the release of certain chapters of my Pokémon Anime What If story.
Now, as I said earlier, the next chapter will be released on the same day as this one and will focus on Ritchie taking on his first Battle Facility being the Battle Factory and I hope you all look forward to it. I'll also list all the Pokémon that Ritchie currently has, and at the end of the next chapter I'll list all of the Pokémon that Verity and Sorrel currently have.
