A/N: Just wanted to let you all know real quick in case any of you might be curious: Mia is 14 like Tristan and Sean while her brother Leo is 18 almost 19.
And now on with the chapter!
Mia's POV
"Mia! Wake up, girl! My mom made French toast for breakfast! We gotta get some since your dad and Leo are coming to pick you up in like an hour and a half."
Even though I'm still kinda half asleep, I can't help but laugh a bit at my best friend's clear excitement.
"I'm getting up, Tris. Just give me a sec, okay?"
Tristan nods her head before making her way over to her closet to find herself an outfit for the day.
While she's doing that, I head into her bathroom to use the toilet.I then wash my hands before brushing my teeth and washing my face.
I then head back into Tristan's room and pull an outfit out of my duffel bag that I brought with me when Leo dropped me off here at Tristan's house yesterday morning.
Once I finish getting dressed, I run a brush through my blonde locks before shoving it and the tank top and shorts that I slept in last night into my bag.
I then head downstairs and set my bag by the front door so that I can easily grab it when Leo comes to pick me up.
I finally make my way to the kitchen where I find Sean and his mom working together to get breakfast on the table.
"Good morning, Mia. Did you sleep okay last night, sweetie?"
I smile at Mrs. Stabler and assure her that I definitely slept well last night just as both Tristan and her dad come into the kitchen, the latter greeting Tristan's mom with a kiss.
We all eventually sit down at the table together and dig into our food which is absolutely delicious.
"So what do you kids have planned for today?"
Tristan says that she was planning to hang out with her boyfriend Tyler and that they were talking last night about maybe going to a movie that afternoon.
"If we don't end up doing that though, we'll probably just hang out here and watch a DVD and maybe go swimming a bit."
Tristan's dad looks like he wants to say something about this but instead he turns to Sean and asks him if he has any set plans for today.
"Uh, not really. I don't have practice today so I was just gonna hang out here today instead."
Mr. Stabler nods his head in response to what Sean said before saying that since he doesn't have any other plans, he could use some help with a few extra chores around the house.
"Yeah, I don't mind helping you out with whatever I can, Dad."
I feel myself smile at Sean's response to his dad's request. I think that it's really nice that he's willing to help his dad out so easily seeing how most guys his age would probably do everything possible to get out of helping his parents with stuff at home.
After we've all finished eating, me and Tristan help her mom clear the dishes and clean up the kitchen which doesn't take long with the three of us.
After we're done cleaning up, Tristan and I head out to her backyard where we hang out, talking about whatever we can think of until my phone pings with a new text notification.
Checking it, I see that it's from my brother.
Big Bro:
Hey, squirt.
Me and Dad just got to Tristan's
I shoot Leo a response, letting him know that I'm on my way right as Tristan's mom comes outside and lets me know that my dad's here to pick me up.
Tristan and I head back inside and I thank her mom for allowing me to stay over last night and that I really enjoyed spending time with her family.
"You're very welcome, honey. You'll have to come spend the night again soon. We really enjoyed having you over."
Sean who has been helping Mr. Stabler with the chores like he had promised during breakfast earlier offers to carry my bag out to my dad's car for me.
"Sure. That's really sweet of you."
Tristan and her mom follows us out front and after Sean sets my bag in the floor behind my dad who's in the driver's seat, he says that he's got to get back to helping his dad but that he'll see me at school on Monday.
"See you on Monday, Sean."
Tristan rolls her eyes playfully at us and tells her brother to go help their dad already leading to him muttering something at her before heading across the yard where Mr Stabler is on a ladder clearing out the gutters on the house.
I exchange a hug with Tristan before finally climbing into my dad's car, promising to text her later once I'm home as I do so.
A little bit later, Dad is driving across the bridge into Manhattan which is where the cemetery that my mom is buried in is.
"So, sis. Tristan's brother seems to have a bit of a crush on you."
I roll my eyes at my brother's teasing.
"Sean does not have a crush on me, Leo. He just broke up with his girlfriend who cheated on him with his best friend since like kindergarten. I don't think he's looking to date again anytime soon."
Leo chuckled at my response but doesn't say anything else.
Dad ends up stopping at this flower shop not far from the cemetery so that we can purchase flowers to leave on my mom's grave. Dad usually lets me and Leo each choose a set of flowers every year when we visit mom and this time is no different.
I pick out some purple lilies while Leo chooses some pink flowers that I don't really know the name of.
After Dad has paid for the flowers, we then climb back in the car and head to the cemetery where we make our way to where Mom's headstone is.
I feel tears prick my eyes as Dad talks to her, telling her that he misses her very much and that he's doing his best to look after me and Leo just like he'd promised her he would the day of her funeral.
Leo then takes over and tells our mom about how he's doing good and he's starting at Columbia in the fall. I feel that she would be so proud of him for getting into college if she was still here.
As he's finishing up, I notice a woman who is also standing in front of a grave a little ways from us, her hands stuffed in the pockets of her grey hoodie.
She must have noticed me watching her because she turned her head and smiled warmly at me before turning back to face the headstone in front of her.
I take my turn to talk to Mom, telling her about school and how I have a new best friend.
"Her mom and dad are cops too just like you were. They're pretty cool too. I think that you would have definitely been friends with her mom. She's a really good mom to Tristan and her brother. "
Dad steps in then, telling her that we'll be back next year and that we all miss her very much.
As we're leaving the cemetery a few minutes later, I don't notice that the woman from earlier is watching us walk back to the car or the lone tear that runs down her cheek as she does so.
