Chapter 2: Old Memories and A New Adventure
Scene 1: (Elio's House)
The Alolan sun streamed through the blinds of Elio's room, casting stripes of light across the floor. He sat cross-legged on his bed, the familiar weight of his Pokémon companions pressing close. Incineroar, Primarina, Lycanroc, and the legendary Solgaleo, Nebby, all seemed to sense the melancholy that clung to him like the humid air.
Elio's fingers traced the edges of a worn photograph. The vibrant colours had faded slightly, but the memory it held burned bright. It was a picture of him, Hau, and Lillie, taken during their island challenge. They were younger, their faces flushed with the thrill of adventure, the boundless optimism of youth shining in their eyes. A pang of longing shot through Elio, a sharp ache for the carefree days, for the easy laughter they shared. He missed Lillie especially. Her gentle spirit, her unwavering kindness, her unique perspective on the world had left an indelible mark on his heart. He wondered how she was doing in Kanto, studying with Professor Oak, learning about Pokémon, and perhaps even finding her own way to shine even brighter.
Nebby, seemingly attuned to Elio's emotions, nudged his hand with his head. The magnificent Pokémon then gently pushed a plush Incineroar pokedoll into Elio's lap. It was the pokedoll Lillie had given him as a goodbye present when she departed for Kanto. A small, bittersweet smile touched Elio's lips. He stroked the soft fabric, remembering the warmth of Lillie's hug when she handed it to him. The pokedoll was a tangible reminder of their bond, a promise that distance couldn't diminish their friendship.
"Thanks, Nebby," Elio murmured, his voice thick with emotion. He hugged the pokedoll close, drawing comfort from its familiarity.
Just then, the door slid open, and Hau bounded into the room, his usual exuberance slightly subdued. He'd been walking on eggshells around Elio for the past few days. The incident where he made insensitive comments about Elio's friends from Kanto - Liam, Sarah, and Mark - still hung heavy in the air. Hau was deeply ashamed of his envy and his thoughtless words. He understood that Elio cherished his friendships, regardless of where they came from, and he was terrified of jeopardizing their own bond.
"Hey, Elio," Hau said, trying to sound casual. "Whatcha up to?"
Elio glanced up, offering a small smile. "Just looking at old photos." He hesitated, then decided to open up. "I miss Lillie."
Hau nodded sympathetically. "Yeah, me too. I wonder how she's doing? Maybe she's already become a super famous assistant to Professor Oak!" He tried to inject some levity into the situation, hoping to lighten Elio's mood. "Maybe she's even discovered a new Pokémon!"
Elio chuckled softly. "Knowing Lillie, she's probably befriended every Pokémon in the lab."
They fell into a comfortable silence, reminiscing about their adventures with Lillie, their shared battles, and the countless moments of laughter and camaraderie. Hau carefully steered the conversation away from Kanto, focusing on their own experiences, on the unique bond they had forged in Alola.
After a while, Elio picked up another photograph. This one was older, the colours even more faded. It showed a woman with kind eyes and a warm smile, standing beside a man with a striking resemblance to Elio. It was his mother and his father, who had died years before Elio was born. He had only seen pictures and heard stories of him, but a deep-seated sense of loss lingered within him, a void that could never be truly filled.
He stared at the image, trying to imagine his father's voice, his laughter, the advice he might have given. He wondered if his father would be proud of the person he had become.
Suddenly, the tranquil atmosphere was shattered by the shrill ringing of Elio's Rotom Phone. He answered it quickly, his brow furrowing as he listened to the urgent voice on the other end.
It was a call from Aether Paradise.
"Elio, we need you here immediately!" the voice crackled through the speaker. "Aether Paradise has been attacked! We believe they came through an Ultra Wormhole… and they have a black Mewtwo!"
Elio's eyes widened in disbelief. A black Mewtwo? This was a threat unlike anything they had faced before.
Scene 2: (Aether Paradise)
Aether Paradise was in chaos. Security personnel rushed to and fro, their faces etched with fear and confusion. Pokémon Center staff were tending to injured employees and Pokémon alike. The pristine white walls were marred by scorch marks and cracks, a testament to the fierce battle that had taken place.
Elio and Hau arrived quickly, their hearts pounding with apprehension. They were immediately ushered into a conference room where a tense meeting was already underway.
The room was packed with familiar faces: the Kahunas of each island, the Trial Captains, Gladion, and even Mamoru, Elio's stoic and ever-vigilant bodyguard. The air was thick with anxiety.
Gladion stood at the head of the table, his expression grim. "An hour ago," he began, his voice low and controlled, "five hooded figures emerged from an Ultra Wormhole that opened right in the center of the facility. They were led by a man who seemed to be their leader. He possessed a Mewtwo unlike any we've ever seen, a Mewtwo shrouded in black energy."
He paused, his gaze sweeping across the room. "I engaged the leader in battle with Silvally, but even with its Type: Null evolution, I was ultimately defeated. The black Mewtwo was too powerful, its attacks relentless."
A collective gasp rippled through the room. Gladion was one of the most skilled trainers in Alola. If he had been defeated so easily, the threat was truly formidable.
"Before they retreated back through the Ultra Wormhole," Gladion continued, his voice tight with suppressed anger, "the leader issued a warning. He spoke of sowing chaos, not just in Alola, but in Kanto and other regions as well. He mentioned something about 'reclaiming what was lost' and 'unleashing the shadows.'"
The implications of his words were chilling. This wasn't just a random attack; it was a declaration of war.
Olivia, the Kahuna of Akala Island, spoke up, her voice laced with concern. "This is beyond anything we've ever faced. A black Mewtwo... the potential for chaos on a regional scale... We need to act swiftly and decisively."
Hala, the Kahuna of Melemele Island, nodded in agreement. "We must inform the other regions immediately. This threat cannot be contained within Alola alone. Every region is in danger."
Elio listened intently, his mind racing. He knew he had to do something. He couldn't stand idly by while this mysterious group threatened to plunge the world into darkness.
He stood up, his voice firm and resolute. "I'm going to Kanto."
All eyes turned to him.
"Lillie's there," Elio explained. "And Kanto is one of their targets. I need to warn her, to protect her, and to help defend the region."
Hau jumped to his feet, his expression determined. "I'm going with you, Elio! We face these battles together!"
Gladion stepped forward, his initial surprise giving way to understanding. "I understand your decision. This is a threat that must be confronted head-on. I will contact Professor Oak and inform him of the situation. He can provide you with valuable information and resources in Kanto."
Olivia placed a hand on Elio's shoulder, her eyes filled with concern. "Be careful, Elio. This enemy is powerful and unknown. Do not underestimate them."
Elio nodded, his resolve unwavering. "We won't. We'll be ready for anything."
As the meeting adjourned, Elio felt a surge of determination. He knew the journey ahead would be dangerous, but he couldn't back down. He had a responsibility to protect his friends, his family, and the world from this looming threat.
Back in his room, Elio started packing his bag, carefully selecting the Poké Balls containing his most trusted Pokémon. He glanced at the Incineroar pokedoll, a reminder of Lillie and the bond they shared.
Hau entered the room, carrying his own backpack. "Ready to go, Elio?"
Elio nodded, taking a deep breath. "Let's go to Kanto. Time for a new adventure."
As they left Elio's house, a sense of urgency filled the air. The Alolan sun, which once felt warm and comforting, now seemed to cast long, ominous shadows. They knew that the fate of not only Alola, but perhaps the entire world, rested on their shoulders. Their journey to Kanto would be fraught with danger, but they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, together. The memory of his old friends, including Lillie, will be the light that keeps them going.
