Chapter 15: Arrival to Alola

The warp through Ultra Space had been jarring, a dizzying kaleidoscope of colors and impossible geometries that left Elio feeling disoriented and nauseous. He stumbled as he emerged on the other side, his knees buckling slightly, but Lillie's hand on his arm steadied him. He looked up, his heart sinking like a stone.

Alola.

It was Alola, but not the vibrant, welcoming paradise he remembered. Hau'oli City, once a bustling hub of activity, was now a desolate landscape of shattered buildings and twisted metal. Ash rained down from the sky, coating everything in a grimy film. The air hung heavy with the scent of smoke and something else, something acrid and alien that made his stomach churn.

Beside him, Hau gasped, his face a mask of shock and grief. "No… no, this can't be…"

The Ultra Recon Squad, their faces grim, disembarked from the Ultra Wormhole portal. Behind them came the delegation from the Ultra Megalopolis government, their faces a mixture of steely determination and apprehension. Even Soliera, usually brimming with enthusiasm, looked pale and shaken.

"The reports were accurate," said the lead official, a stern-faced woman in a pristine white uniform. "The Ultra Beasts have wreaked havoc."

Elio felt a surge of anger. Reports? They had been sitting in their sterile city, reading reports while his home was being destroyed? He clenched his fists, fighting the urge to lash out. He needed to focus. Lunala and Lillie were still in danger.

"Professor Kukui's Lab," Elio said, his voice hoarse. "We need to get there. He might have some idea of what's going on, what we can do."

The group moved quickly, the silence broken only by the crunching of debris underfoot. The destruction was widespread, reaching far beyond Hau'oli City. Shops were reduced to rubble, palm trees were charred stumps, and the once-familiar streets were now treacherous obstacle courses.

Finally, they reached the lab. The building was damaged but still standing, a beacon of hope amidst the devastation. Professor Kukui, his face lined with worry, rushed out to greet them.

"Elio! Thank goodness you're here! I was starting to lose hope." He ushered them inside, the air thick with the smell of burnt electronics and desperation. Burnet stood behind him, her expression equally grave.

Inside, the lab was a hive of activity. Several Trial Captains were huddled around a holographic display, their faces etched with concern. Sophocles was frantically typing on a computer, while Mallow paced back and forth, her brow furrowed in concentration.

"Professor," Elio said, his voice urgent. "What's the situation? What happened?"

Kukui sighed, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. "The Ultra Beasts… they came in force, Elio. Bigger, stronger than anything we've ever seen. And they're being led by humans, Ultra Hunters. They're organized, ruthless. They seem intent on capturing strong Pokémon and… something else. Something Lillie could be involved with."

"Lunala," Elio said grimly. "They're after Lunala."

Kukui nodded. "Exactly. We've managed to establish some communication with the other islands. Kahuna Hala is holding his own on Melemele, but Akala and Ula'ula are under heavy attack. Poni Island is… we haven't heard from them in days."

The weight of the situation crashed down on Elio. Alola was under siege. His friends, his family, were in danger. He had to do something.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm. "We need a plan," he said, his voice firm. "We need to fight back."

A strategy session followed, fueled by adrenaline and desperation. Elio, Kukui, and the Ultra Recon Squad laid out the grim reality. The Ultra Beasts were overwhelming, their numbers seemingly endless. The Ultra Hunters were well-equipped and highly trained. The Alolan Defense Force was stretched thin, struggling to contain the chaos.

After hours of discussion, a plan began to take shape. It was risky, desperate, but it was the only chance they had.

"The Kahunas and Trial Captains," Elio said, pointing to the holographic display. "They're the strongest trainers in Alola. We need to coordinate them, focus their efforts. Each island needs to be secured, one at a time."

He looked at Kukui, his eyes pleading. "Professor, you need to contact the Kahunas and Trial Captains. Tell them to gather their forces, prepare for a coordinated attack."

Kukui nodded, his eyes filled with resolve. "I'll do it, Elio. But what about you? What will you do?"

Elio looked at his friends, his companions in countless battles. He knew what he had to do.

"I'm going to Melemele Island," he said. "Kahuna Hala needs our help."

The decision was made. The Ultra Recon Squad pledged their support, offering their advanced technology and combat skills. The Ultra Megalopolis government agreed to provide logistical support, albeit with a clear agenda of their own - securing the Ultra Beasts and controlling the situation.

As the sun began to rise, casting a pale orange glow over the ruined landscape, Elio prepared to leave. He clasped hands with Lillie, her eyes filled with worry.

"Be careful, Elio," she said softly. "Please come back safe."

He squeezed her hand, offering a reassuring smile. "I will, Lillie. I promise."

He turned to Hau, his childhood friend standing beside him. "Look after her, Hau," he said. "And look after Alola."

Hau nodded, his face grim. "You can count on me, Elio. We'll see this through."

With one last look at his friends, Elio set off towards Route 1, ready to face the horrors that awaited him.

The road to Route 1 was a harrowing journey through a landscape scarred by conflict. Elio, accompanied by a small group of the Ultra Recon Squad, encountered pockets of resistance – packs of Ultra Beasts lurking in the shadows, ready to pounce. They fought bravely, using their Pokémon to hold them off, but the sheer number of Ultra Beasts was overwhelming.

As they neared Hau'oli City, the devastation was even more pronounced. Buildings were reduced to smoldering heaps, streets were clogged with debris, and the air was filled with the stench of decay. But amidst the destruction, Elio saw signs of life – small groups of survivors huddled together, their faces etched with fear and despair.

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and the ground began to tremble. A fleet of massive warships appeared overhead, their hulls painted in the stark white and silver colors of Ultra Megalopolis. The ships deployed platforms that landed on the outskirts of Hau'oli City, from which soldiers clad in black armor began to emerge.

The evacuation had begun. He spotted Lima, a Trial Captain among the soldiers.

Lima saw him and stopped to say, " The Government of Ultra Megapolis appeared with a fleet of massive warships, I helped evaciate the inhabitahts that were still alive while the URS hold them back."

Elio nodded grimly and said "I am going to Route 2, I needed to reach Tapu Koko and help Kahuna Hala"

He continued his journey alone towards Route 2 and faced more Ultra Beasts. They scuttled towards him from every direction but he was more than prepared.

He encountered the Ultra Hunter Captain in Verdant Cavern. The air crackled with tension as the Ultra Hunter Captain, a tall, imposing figure with cold, calculating eyes, emerged from the depths of Verdant Cavern. He was surrounded by a squad of Ultra Grunts, their faces hidden behind blank, emotionless masks.

"So, you're the one who's been causing trouble," the Captain said, his voice a low growl. "I've been waiting for you."

He gestured, and one of the Ultra Grunts stepped forward, releasing a Pokémon from its Poké Ball. It was a Nihilego, its jellyfish-like body pulsating with an unsettling energy.

"Let's see if you're as strong as they say," the Captain sneered. "Nihilego, attack!"

Lima sent out his Totem Gumshoos. It was a fierce battle, but Gumshoos was stronger and ultimately defeated Nihulego.

With the Ultra Hunter Captain defeated, Elio continued his journey towards Route 3, his determination renewed.

Ahead, the path to Tapu Koko was still fraught with danger as he fought against more Ultra Grunts.

Finally, he reached the ruins of Tapu Koko's shrine. The air here was thick with energy, the presence of the guardian deity palpable. But the site was also under attack, a swarm of Ultra Beasts surrounding the ruins.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the heart of the ruins, a figure Elio recognized instantly. It was Kahuna Hala, his face grim but resolute. Beside him stood Tapu Koko, its eyes crackling with electric energy.

"Elio! You've come!" Hala exclaimed, his voice booming. "We need your help! These creatures are relentless!"

And then they defeated the Grand Ultra Hunter and brought down his respective airship!

With Melemele Island freed from the Ultra Hunters, only three islands remained. The fight was far from over, but for the first time since arriving in Alola, Elio felt a flicker of hope. They had won a battle, and they would win the war. He was home.
