Chapter 17: Battle on Ula'Ula Island
The ferry lurched against the dock in Ula'Ula Island, spitting Elio onto the bustling pier of Malie City. He took a deep breath, the salty air a familiar comfort, but the tension in the atmosphere was undeniable. The normally vibrant market stalls were shuttered tight, and the few people he saw hurried with their heads down, fear etched into their faces. The Ultra Hunters had cast a long, dark shadow over this island.
"Elio!" A voice called, cutting through the oppressive silence. He turned to see Sophocles, his bright orange hair a beacon in the gloom, waving frantically. Next to him stood Nanu, his usually stoic face even grimmer than usual.
"Sophocles! Nanu! Glad to see you," Elio said, relief washing over him. He'd been fighting his way across Alola, pushing back the Ultra Hunter invasion, and knowing he had allies waiting lifted his spirits.
"We've been expecting you," Sophocles said, adjusting his glasses. "Things are… not good. They've set up a base of operations somewhere near Mount Hokulani, and grunts are swarming Malie City, trying to control the population."
Nanu grunted in agreement. "They're organized, ruthless. They don't care about collateral damage. We need to hit them hard and fast."
Without further ado, they devised a plan. Nanu, with his intimate knowledge of the island and his surprising connection to Tapu Bulu, would focus on disrupting the supply lines and scouting out the main Ultra Hunter base. Sophocles, with his technical expertise, would handle the grunt activity around Mount Hokulani, using his inventions to weaken their defenses. Elio, with his proven battle prowess, would tackle the chaos in Malie City and push the Ultra Hunters back.
"Alright, let's move out," Elio declared, determination hardening his voice. He summoned Incineroar, the fiery Pokémon letting out a defiant roar that echoed through the empty streets.
Chaos in Malie City
Malie City was a ghost town. The vibrant music and cheerful chatter that usually filled the air were replaced by the heavy thud of Ultra Hunter boots and the harsh commands barked in their clipped, foreign language. Elio, with Incineroar at his side, moved swiftly through the deserted streets, confronting small groups of Ultra Grunts.
They were relentless, throwing out waves of powerful Pokémon: Poison types like Toxapex, Dark types like Hydreigon, and Steel types like Metagross. But Elio was ready. He switched seamlessly between his Pokémon, utilizing their strengths and exploiting the Ultra Hunters' weaknesses. Vikavolt's Electric-type attacks paralyzed and disrupted their strategies. Primarina's powerful Water-type moves swept away their offensive efforts.
He fought with a focused intensity, each victory fueling his resolve. He wasn't just fighting for himself; he was fighting for the people of Alola, for the freedom of his home.
As he cleared the last of the grunts from the main plaza, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was an Ultra Hunter, but this one was different. Taller, stronger, with a cruel glint in their eyes. They wore a slightly different uniform, bearing a strange insignia.
"You're causing quite a stir, boy," the figure sneered. "My orders were to secure this city, and you're making that rather difficult."
"You're the one terrorizing this island," Elio retorted, his voice steady. "I'm just here to stop you."
The Ultra Hunter chuckled, a dry, humorless sound. "Admirable, but foolish. I am Captain Valeria. And I will ensure your interference ends now."
Valeria unleashed her Pokémon – a towering, ferocious Krookodile. Elio knew this would be a tough fight. He sent out his Lycanroc, its sharp claws ready.
The battle was fierce. Krookodile's brute strength was a constant threat, but Lycanroc's speed and agility allowed it to dodge many of the attacks and land some powerful blows. Elio carefully strategized, using Lycanroc's Stone Edge to create a barrier, disrupting Krookodile's movements and allowing for openings. After a long and grueling fight, Lycanroc finally managed to knock Krookodile out with a powerful Accelerock.
Valeria staggered back, her face flushed with anger. "Impossible! This isn't over!" But before she could summon another Pokémon, reinforcements arrived. Nanu, riding on the back of his Persian, appeared at the edge of the plaza, followed by a group of Team Skull grunts, their faces surprisingly grim.
"Looks like you're outnumbered, Captain," Nanu said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Why don't you just give up now and save us all some trouble?"
Valeria, seeing the tide had turned, snarled in frustration. "This isn't the end, Alolan scum! We will return!" With that, she teleported away, leaving behind a stunned silence.
"Thanks, Nanu," Elio said, relief flooding him. "You got here just in time."
Nanu shrugged. "Just doing my part. Now, let's focus on the bigger picture. Sophocles has already made some progress near Mount Hokulani."
Mount Hokulani and Route 10
While Elio and Nanu fought in Malie City, Sophocles was putting his tech skills to the test on Route 10 and the slopes of Mount Hokulani. He had devised several gadgets to disrupt the Ultra Hunter communication networks and weaken their defenses. One device created a localized EMP that temporarily disabled their communication devices, causing confusion among the grunts. Another was a sonic emitter that emitted high-frequency sounds, disorienting their Pokémon.
He moved swiftly, laying down these devices while battling the Ultra Grunts who tried to stop him. Togedemaru, his trusty partner Pokemon, proved invaluable. Its Electric and Steel typing was perfect for taking down many of the Ultra Hunter's Pokemon.
He faced an Ultra Captain, tasked with protecting a critical relay station. The Captain was a formidable opponent, commanding a team of powerful Electric-type Pokémon. The Captain utilized a Totem Togedemaru, whose size made it look terrifying. The Totem Togedemaru was massive, its spikes radiating with electricity, and its attacks were incredibly powerful. However, Sophocles was prepared.
He knew he couldn't rely on brute force alone. He had to use his intellect and his unique relationship with Togedemaru. He had developed a special battle strategy based on Togedemaru's ability to absorb electricity from its surroundings using its unique Iron Barbs and using it to release a devastating attack called Zing Zap. Sophocles and Togedemaru had practiced using it for the situation and it was the perfect battle plan.
It was a grueling battle. The Totem Togedemaru's power was immense, and Sophocles had to think quickly and strategically to endure. He unleashed his Togedemaru's Zing Zap attack, overloading the Totem Togedemaru and finally bringing it down.
Exhausted but triumphant, Sophocles disabled the relay station, cutting off the Ultra Hunters' communications and creating a major tactical advantage for the Alolan forces.
Route 14 and Acerola's Stand
Meanwhile, on the desolate stretches of Route 14, Acerola, the Trial Captain of the Thrifty Megamart, was facing her own challenges. Route 14 was a bleak landscape, surrounded by broken down buildings and trash, and the Ultra Hunters had taken full advantage of its desolation, setting up a small outpost amidst the ruins.
Acerola, usually cheerful and bright, was radiating a fierce determination. She would not let these invaders desecrate her island. She had been working tirelessly to disrupt their activities, using her knowledge of the area and her strength to her advantage.
She encountered the Ultra Grunts, and their Captain. In the Captain's possession was a Totem Mimikyu, whose disguise was made to look like a Toxapex. Acerola's knowledge of Ghost-type Pokémon proved invaluable. She knew exactly how to exploit its weaknesses.
Her battle stance was strong, unwavering and focused.
Acerola summoned her Mimikyu to fight against the Totem Mimikyu. They were equally strong and the battle was grueling. Acerola strategically had Mimikyu land attacks and dodge, and after a long while, Mimikyu finally managed to knock out the Totem Mimikyu with a strong Shadow Claw.
Route 17 and Nanu's Alliance
Back on Route 17, Nanu was facing the Grand Ultra Hunter. The Grand Ultra Hunter was a formidable figure, radiating an aura of power and experience. He commanded a team of Ultra Beasts, creatures of immense power from another dimension. Kartana, Pheromosa, Buzzwole, Xurkitree, Celesteela, and Guzzlord! These were the powerful Pokemon that Nanu has to face.
Nanu knew he couldn't defeat him alone. He reached out to Tapu Bulu, the Guardian Deity of Ula'Ula Island. Initially reluctant, Tapu Bulu was swayed by Nanu's sincerity and his unwavering dedication to protecting the island.
The Grand Ultra Hunter scoffed. "You think a mere Guardian Deity can stand against the might of the Ultra Beasts?"
Nanu remained unfazed. "You underestimate the power of Alola."
A swirling vortex of energy erupted around Tapu Bulu, its wooden mask gleaming with ancient power. The battle that followed was cataclysmic. The Ultra Beasts unleashed their devastating attacks, but Tapu Bulu countered with its own overwhelming power. Nanu used his own diverse team to support Tapu Bulu, exploiting weaknesses and providing support where needed.
The battle raged across Route 17, leaving a trail of destruction. The Grand Ultra Hunter, despite his arrogance, was beginning to feel the pressure. Nanu and Tapu Bulu were a force to be reckoned with.
Finally, after a desperate struggle, Tapu Bulu unleashed its signature Z-Move, Guardian of Alola, a devastating attack that shattered the Grand Ultra Hunter's defenses! The Ultra Beasts staggered, weakened and disoriented. Nanu seized the opportunity, commanding his Pokémon to unleash a final, coordinated assault.
The Grand Ultra Hunter, defeated and humiliated, stumbled back. "This isn't over!" he roared, before teleporting away, leaving behind a trail of lingering fear.
Silence fell over Route 17. Nanu, exhausted but triumphant, turned to Tapu Bulu. "Thank you," he said, his voice uncharacteristically sincere.
Tapu Bulu grunted in acknowledgment, its gaze sweeping across the ravaged landscape. "The land is healing," it said, its voice echoing with ancient wisdom. "But the threat remains. Poni Island is their last bastion."
The Road to Poni Island
The victory on Ula'Ula Island was hard-won, but it was a turning point. The morale of the Alolan people soared, and the Ultra Hunters' grip on the region began to loosen. Elio, Sophocles, and Nanu gathered at the ferry terminal, their faces grim but determined.
"Poni Island is their last stronghold," Elio said, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "We need to take it back."
"They'll be expecting us," Sophocles added. "They'll be prepared."
Nanu nodded. "We'll be ready too. We've come this far. We can't give up now."
They boarded the ferry, the spray of the ocean washing over them. The journey to Poni Island would be fraught with danger, but they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The fate of Alola rested on their shoulders and they would be strong and fight on. The final battle was about to begin.
