Chapter 18: Battle on Poni Island

The salty tang of the Poni Island air stung Elio's nostrils as he raced towards the Poni Wilds. The communication from Kahuna Hapu had been brief and urgent: Poni Island was under attack. He arrived to find a scene of organized chaos. Ultra Hunter vehicles, sleek and menacing, were parked haphazardly near the entrance to the Vast Poni Canyon. Grunts, clad in their stark white uniforms, barked orders and directed strange, unfamiliar Pokémon. The familiar scent of ozone, a hallmark of Ultra Beast activity, hung heavy in the air.

He spotted Captain Mina near the ancient ruins of the altar, her face grim with determination. Her long, braided hair whipped around her face as she barked orders to a small group of trainers trying to defend the area. Nearby, Kahuna Hapu stood firm, her sturdy form radiating the same grounded strength as the earth she commanded. Her Mudsdale stood beside her, snorting and pawing the ground impatiently.

"Elio! You're here, thank goodness," Mina called out, relief evident in her voice. "They've been hitting us hard. Organized attacks, unlike anything we've seen from Team Skull. These are the Ultra Hunters, and they mean business."

"What's the situation?" Elio asked, his hand instinctively reaching for the Poké Balls on his belt.

"They're trying to seize control of the altar," Hapu stated, her voice low and gravelly. "Seems they're interested in Tapu Fini. And whoever is in charge seems intent on claiming the entire island for themselves."

Elio's blood ran cold. The thought of these interlopers defiling the sacred altar and endangering the guardian deity of Poni Island filled him with a burning rage. He clenched his fist. "Then we need to stop them. Now."

Mina nodded grimly. "They've sent some of their stronger trainers this way. We'll hold them off here. Hapu, you engage their leader, try to find a way to break the chain of command."

Before Elio could offer his assistance, a high-pitched screech pierced the air. A shadow fell over them as a Kommo-o, larger and more intimidating than any he'd ever seen, descended from the canyon. Its scales shimmered with an unnatural intensity, and a dark aura pulsed around it. This was no ordinary Kommo-o; this was a Totem Pokémon, corrupted and controlled by the Ultra Hunters.

"A Totem Kommo-o?" Mina exclaimed, her eyes widening in disbelief. "They've somehow managed to influence the Totem Pokémon! This is even worse than we thought."

A hulking figure emerged from behind the group of Ultra Hunter Grunts. He wore a modified version of their white uniform, adorned with strange metallic plates and glowing blue accents. He smirked, revealing a row of sharp teeth.

"You Alolan natives are quite persistent," he sneered, his voice raspy. "But your primitive traditions are no match for the might of the Ultra Recon Squad. Now, stand aside, or face the wrath of Totem Kommo-o!"

Without hesitation, Elio stepped forward. Incineroar roared beside him.

"We won't let you defile our island," Elio declared, his voice ringing with conviction. "We'll protect our Pokémon, our traditions, and our home!"

The Ultra Hunter Captain scoffed. "Foolish child. Kommo-o, show him the true power of the Ultra Recon Squad!"

The Totem Kommo-o unleashed a deafening roar and charged towards Elio and Incineroar. The battle began.

The ground trembled as Incineroar met Kommo-o head-on. The clash of power sent shockwaves through the air. Elio directed Incineroar with precise commands, utilizing its Darkest Lariat and Flare Blitz attacks to target Kommo-o's weaknesses. But the Totem Pokémon was relentless. Its Clanging Scales and Boomburst attacks reverberated through the air, shaking Elio and Incineroar to their core.

The Ultra Hunter Captain watched with amusement, confident in his Totem Pokémon's strength. However, Elio was undeterred. He called upon his other Pokémon, one by one, coordinating his attacks with masterful strategy. Snorlax absorbed the brunt of Kommo-o's powerful blows, while Greninja used its cunning and agility to strike from the shadows.

Finally, after a grueling battle, Elio saw an opening. He commanded Incineroar to unleash its Z-Move, Malicious Moonsault. The fiery inferno engulfed Kommo-o, searing its scales and weakening its resolve. With a final, guttural roar, the Totem Pokémon collapsed.

The Ultra Recon Squad Captain stared in disbelief. "Impossible! How could you defeat Totem Kommo-o?" he stammered.

Elio stood tall, his chest heaving, but a triumphant gleam in his eyes. "We fight for something more than power. We fight for our home, for our friends, and for the Pokémon we love."

With the Totem Kommo-o defeated, the morale of the surrounding Ultra Hunter Grunts plummeted. They hesitated, unsure of what to do. Elio, sensing the shift in momentum, pressed his advantage. He and Incineroar, fueled by the cheers of the other trainers, charged into the fray, scattering the remaining Grunts. The Ultra Hunter, defeated and demoralized, retreated in disarray.

Meanwhile, on another part of the battlefield, Captain Mina was locked in a fierce struggle of her own. She faced a different Ultra Hunter, a woman with cold, calculating eyes and a cruel smile. The woman commanded a strange, metallic Pokémon that Mina had never seen before - a Buzzwole. It towered over Ribombee, its massive muscles rippling with unnatural power.

Mina's strategy revolved around Ribombee's speed and agility, using its Fairy-type moves to exploit Buzzwole's weakness. But the Ultra Hunter Captain anticipated her every move. Buzzwole's powerful punches and Leech Life attacks were relentless, draining both Ribombee's health and Mina's spirit.

Just as Mina began to feel overwhelmed, a familiar glow enveloped Ribombee. It began to change, growing larger and more radiant. Totem Ribombee appeared, its shimmering wings casting a dazzling light across the battlefield.

The Ultra Recon Squad Captain gasped in surprise. "A Totem Pokémon? But how…?"

Mina smiled, a surge of determination flowing through her. "The spirit of Alola protects its own. We are not easily defeated!"

With the power of Totem Ribombee, Mina turned the tide of the battle. Its Fairy-type attacks, amplified by its Totem status, overwhelmed Buzzwole. The Ultra Hunter Captain fought valiantly, but Totem Ribombee was too powerful. Finally, with a triumphant shriek, Ribombee landed a decisive blow, sending the Ultra Recon Squad Captain crashing to the ground.

Further inland, near the Altar of the Sunne and Moone, Kahuna Hapu faced the most challenging opponent of all: The Grand Ultra Hunter. This figure was unlike any of the other Ultra Hunter. He was cloaked in a dark, shimmering material that seemed to absorb the light around him. His eyes glowed with an unnatural purple energy, and his presence radiated an aura of immense power. He commanded a Guzzlord, an Ultra Beast of terrifying size and insatiable hunger.

Hapu stood firm, her Mudsdale trembling slightly beneath her. She called upon her other Pokémon, but even the combined strength of her team seemed insignificant against the monstrous Guzzlord. The Grand Ultra Hunter watched with disdain.

"You cannot hope to stand against the power of the Ultra Beasts," he sneered. "Alola will fall, and its energy will be ours!"

Just as Hapu began to despair, a wave of calming energy washed over the battlefield. The air shimmered, and a majestic figure emerged from the depths of the Ula'ula Ocean. It was Tapu Fini, the guardian deity of Poni Island.

The Grand Ultra Hunter's eyes widened in surprise. "A guardian deity? Intriguing…"

Tapu Fini unleashed a powerful Misty Terrain, shrouding the battlefield in a thick fog that weakened the Ultra Beast's power. Hapu, emboldened by Tapu Fini's presence, rallied her remaining Pokémon. She used Mudsdale's Earthquake attack to disrupt Guzzlord's footing, creating an opening for her other Pokémon to strike.

The battle was long and arduous, but with Tapu Fini's support, Hapu managed to weaken Guzzlord and corner the Grand Ultra Hunter. Finally, with a furious roar, Mudsdale unleashed its Z-Move, Tectonic Rage, shattering the ground beneath the Grand Ultra Hunter's feet. He was defeated, his dark aura dissipating into the misty air.

With the defeat of the Grand Ultra Hunter, the remaining Ultra Hunter members on Poni Island lost their will to fight. They retreated in disarray, leaving behind their vehicles and their defeated Pokémon.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the Poni Wilds, Elio, Mina, and Hapu gathered near the altar. They were exhausted, but victorious. Poni Island, and indeed all of Alola's Islands, were free.

"We did it," Elio said, a weary smile spreading across his face. "We stopped them."

"But this is not over," Hapu said, her voice grave. "The Ultra Hunters won't give up easily. They will return."

Her words were proven true as the Flying Fortress was under Cypher's control, who was holding Lillie and Lunala hostage.

A grim silence settled over the group. They knew what they had to do.

"That flying fortress is my next destination," Elio said, his voice firm. "Me,Hau,Gladion,Selene and My father have to rescue Lillie and Lunala, and stop Cypher once and for all."

Mina nodded in agreement. ''Be Careful. That Fortress is heavily fortified, and Cypher will be expecting ."

"Tapu Fini is with you," Hapu added. "Its power will be essential against Cypher's forces."

As they began to plan their assault on Aether Paradise, a sense of foreboding settled over them. They knew that the battle ahead would be the most difficult and dangerous they had ever faced. The fate of Alola, and perhaps the entire world, rested on their shoulders. The time for diplomacy was over. The time for a final, decisive confrontation had arrived. The battle for Aether Paradise was about to begin.
