In the morning, I was sleeping in bed, peacefully. The first years had just finished the Initiation a few days ago. I could finally get back on track. But heard a loud whistle blow from next door that caused me fell down on the ground.
"Good morning team RWBY!" Ruby yelled loud enough that I could hear her, making me groan and stand up before walking outside.
"What in the world is wrong with you?" Weiss asked as I stopped at their door and started banging against their door.
Seeing it open, I saw three of the four were dressed for the day. "Shut up!" I said as I used my aura to take the whistle from Ruby who looked shocked at what had just happened. "People were sleeping, get the picture?" I asked, slamming their door closed.
Later
"Monsters! Demons… Prowlers of the night. Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names. But I, merely refer to them as prey." Professor Port said, with me rolling my eyes.
I laid my head down on the desk, already knowing most of this from last year. I didnt try to pay attention. Just look how boring it was in class! Ive already listened to this once before, hell, I even did a prank on Professor Port on the first day.
Looking over at the others teammates, he saw what they were doing. Blake and Yang were paying attention, but Ruby had been sleeping on her arm, and Weiss looked to be getting angry at this. "Uhh, and you shall too, upon graduating from this prestigious academy. Now as I was saying, Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, is safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world. Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces. And that's where we come in. Huntsman! Huntresses!" Professor Port said winked his eye as he clicked of a tongue.
It made Yang groaned when he did that.
"Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves. From what you ask?" Professor Port continued as students were staring at him. "Why… The very world!"
All of the students in class were silent and doesn't look so surprised. Except one student cheered "Yyyyeah!" for him.
"This is what you are training to become. But first, a story." Professor Port said as almost everyone groans.
I watch as Ruby starts drawing on a white sheet with a pencil, where she then raised the paper and shows it to Yang. Ruby drew a funny picture of Professor Port and it made Yang laugh. To be honest, it wasn't very nice.
However, there is the most serious student in this class, Weiss. She was focused and paying attention. She wrote everything in her notebook. However, there's one issue. She was glaring at Ruby. She was angry at seeing the leader, Ruby, drawing and goofing around.
"A true huntsman must be strategic… Well-educated… And wise! So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Professor Port asked as he looked at me, with me shaking my head at him.
Weiss's hand shoots up. "I do sir!" She nearly yelled.
"Well then, let's find out." Professor Port said looking at the rattling cage, and inside were a pair of red eyes. "Step forward and meet your opponent."
Weiss went out to grab her equipment, with him looking at me, where I shook my head and he nodded. He wanted me up there to she them the ropes, but I wasn't going up there. Weiss soon returned and she took her position for preparing to fight while her teammates of RWBY cheered for her.
"Gooo Weiss!" Yang said
"Fight well!" Blake said holding the small flag sign of RWBY.
"Yeah, represent team RWBY!" Ruby said.
"Ruby! I'm trying to concentrate!" Weiss yelled Ruby harshly with a heavy glair. Ruby got scared at being yelled at as she didn't expect it.
"Alright. Let the match, begin." Professor Port said as he hit the cage opened with his blunderbuss axe, where a Boarbatusk came out from it.
Weiss sees the Boarbatusk charges forward at her, where she moves to the left side until Grimm-Bear passed her as she slashes her Myrtenaster against the Grimm, but hit to the bone plating on its side which it made a metal noise.
"Haha, wasn't expecting that were you?" Professor Port asked.
"Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby cheered.
Weiss dashed forward at Boarbatusk by using her semblance, but her raptor slid off and stuck between its large tusks. She tried to pull it out, but got distract by Ruby's cheer as she looked at her. She failed to, and was forced to let her weapon go and sees it fly and landed on the ground.
"Now what will you do without your weapon?" Professor Port asked.
Weiss pushed herself up and looked at the Boarbatusk charges. She jumped to the side and ran towards her weapon it could charge her again. Luckily, Boarbatusk hit into the first row of the desk before losing its balance and knocking itself to the ground. Weiss got her weapon on chance before Ruby spoke once more.
"Weiss, go for its belly! There's no armor underneath…"
Weiss glared at her. "Stop telling me what to do!" She yelled, making Ruby flinch.
I looked at the two, shaking my head at them as what Weiss was doing wasn't right. Weiss was stubborn when it came to exceling and being the best. Ruby didn't care as she was still a child.
The Boarbatusk roared before it jumps in the air and started spinning forward in the form of a wheel. Weiss swung her rapier to create two spells blue rune. One is in front of her. The second is in the air and behind her. The one that is in front of her had stopped the Boarbatusk's spinning wheel and got itself flipped over into upside down. After seeing the Boarbatusk is down, Weiss jumped into her second one and launched herself to strike her blade into the Boarbatusk's exposed belly.
"Bravo! Braa-vo!" Professor Port said. "It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true huntress in training! I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings and, stay vigilant. Class dismissed." Professor Port said while everyone started leaving.
Weiss turned around and walked out of a door, ignoring her teammates, mostly Ruby. Ruby looked upset, wondering why Weiss yelled at her.
Later
"Weiss!" Ruby called as she went after her in the hallway.
Weiss turned around to her and yelled. "What?!"
"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-"
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader and all you've been so far is a nuisance." Weiss interrupted, clearly not in the mood.
Ruby scoffed at this. "What did I do?"
"That's just it, you've done nothing to earn your position. Back in the forest, you acted like a child and you've only continued to do so." Weiss answered, with me stepping around the corner and leaning against the wall, not caring if they saw me or not.
"Weiss, where is this coming from?" Ruby asked, feeling hurt. "What happened to all the talk about, working together? I thought you believed in acting as a team."
"Not a team led by you. I've studied, and trained, and quite frankly, I deserve better." Weiss said turned away from Ruby. "Ozpin made a mistake." She said, with me knowing that wasn't the case now.
Ruby frowned as she learned that she wasn't a great leader. Weiss was right about her, she just acted like a child. She turned around to walk the other way, but was surprised to see Professor Ozpin behind her.
"Hmm. Now that didn't seem to go very well." He said.
"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" Ruby asked.
"That remains to be seen." Ozpin answered.
"What do you mean?" She asked
"I mean it's only been one day. Ruby, I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. But at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to the leader to be one of them. Do you?" He asked, with me looking at him.
"I…"
"Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" He added, with me narrowing my eyes at him. "You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you take some time, to think about how you will uphold it." Ozpin finished his speech for Ruby, before leaving her behind and let her think about.
Later that night
"Ruby… I always wanted bunk beds as a kid." Weiss said as she closed the door shut as Weiss started a walk.
"Weiss." I said, looking at Weiss as she was surprised that I was outside of my room, leaning against my door.
"Dakota, what are you doing outside?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I wanted to talk to you, but as of now, I see that I don't need to any longer." I said, looking at Weiss's face.
"What?" Weiss asked as she was confused.
"I see that you apologized to Ruby." I said, with her slowly nodding.
"I did." She said, looking at her room door.
"I misjudge you." I said as Weiss looked a bit shocked. "Back when I met you, I thought you were probably best to become a leader, but after everything I saw today, I see that I was wrong. But, I misjudge you again. Right now, you're proving that you can take responsibility for your actions." I said, with her looking away.
"Well...?" She asked.
"You're as kind as you are beautiful." I said, looking away from her once I said that.
Weiss's face heated up for being called beautiful. "Wh-Where is this coming from?" She asked as she looked back at me.
"Liked I just said; you're as kind as you are beautiful. That's all." I said before looking back at her. "You know, Weiss, Ruby's your team leader. I believed she wasn't ready, but then again, this is a school for teaching, and what place better to learn to be a leader than here? You'll have to support her as her teammate, being a Huntress or Huntsman is hard work, it's not a game. It wasn't about being what you become, you have to be prepared to face your life. All you have to do, is protect the people as much as you can before the Grimm takes them away. You have to make sure everyone is safe, and that means sacrificing yourself to make sure that everyone is safe. I want to protect the people that are close to me, more now than ever. Never lose your friends." I said, looking away from her once more.
Weiss just lost her words, tears in her eyes. "Dakota-"
"Sorry about my long speech." I said, closing my eyes.
"No, it's okay. I liked it." She will remember losing the friends that put her in mind.
"We should go back and get sleep. The class will start tomorrow." I said, turning to enter my room.
"Alright... and Dakota." Weiss said, with me looking at her. "Thank you." She said, with me nodding and walking in to go to bed.
