Kylo spent the morning staring at Luna, his heart racing with excitement. His wolf had chosen to mate with her, and now he couldn't concentrate on anything else. Every thought was consumed by her presence, and he found himself wondering how things would work now that they were bonded. He couldn't imagine a day without her, and the very thought of their future together filled him with a mixture of joy and uncertainty.
Luna reached into the mind link, "Kylo, stop! You are making it hard for me to concentrate and you should be paying attention too", she said.
Kylo snapped out of his reverie, feeling a little guilty. "Sorry, Luna, he replied through the link. "I just can't stop thinking about us."
"I know, but we have to stay focused, she gently reminded him. We'll have plenty of time to figure things out, but right now, we need to be present."
Kylo nodded, though he knew she couldn't see him. "You're right", he admitted, forcing his thoughts back to the task at hand.
It was finally lunchtime and they met with Pearl. Luna was not at all surprised that Cameron was with Milly. She had no idea what he saw in her; Pearl was a much better choice for him. Pearl looked sad too, and Luna needed to snap Cameron into reality.
"Hey Pearl," Luna called out, noticing the droop in her friend's posture. "Oh hi," Pearl replied in a not-so-cheery voice, her eyes glancing towards Cameron and Milly.
Luna wrapped an arm around Pearl's shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll figure this out," she whispered, hoping to infuse some hope into her friend's heart. Pearl sighed, but nodded, drawing some comfort from Luna's unwavering determination.
"What are we figuring out?" Kylo said, moving closer to Luna. He wanted to be physically touching her, needing the reassurance of their bond. Luna glanced at him, appreciating his need for closeness but knowing they had to address the matter at hand.
"We need to find a way to get Cameron to see what's right in front of him," Luna explained, her eyes flicking towards Pearl who was trying to avoid looking at Cameron and Milly. "Pearl deserves a chance with him, and he needs to realize that."
Kylo nodded in understanding. "Well, let's make him see then," he said with determination. "Whatever it takes."
Luna smiled at Kylo's resolve. "Exactly. We'll make it happen together," she said, feeling reassured by his support.
"Pearl, you ever think about wearing contacts and maybe wearing your hair down?" Luna asked, a gentle suggestion in her voice.
Pearl blinked, taken aback by the question. "I... I don't know," she stammered, her fingers automatically reaching up to adjust her glasses. "Do you really think that would make a difference?"
Luna smiled reassuringly. "It's not about changing who you are, Pearl. It's about giving yourself the chance to shine. Sometimes, a small change can make a big impact on how we see ourselves and how others see us."
Pearl looked thoughtful, her eyes drifting to Cameron once more. "Maybe you're right," she said softly. "Maybe it's time I tried something different."
Kylo squeezed Luna's hand, silently supporting her initiative. "We'll help you with whatever you need," he said, giving Pearl an encouraging nod.
Pearl smiled, a glimmer of hope returning to her eyes. "Thank you," she whispered, feeling the warmth of her friends' support enveloping her. "I think I'll give it a try."
"Okay, there is a party this weekend, and we can make you look amazing!" Luna said, excitement in her voice.
Pearl hesitated. "Yeah, but the party is at Samara's, and I wasn't invited," she replied, worry creasing her brow.
Luna waved away her concerns with a confident grin. "Are you kidding? When I'm done with you, no one will even know it's you," she assured her.
Pearl looked down, uncertainty still lingering in her eyes. "I don't know about this," she said softly.
Luna placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Trust me, it will make all the difference," she said confidently. "But I won't do it if you're not comfortable," she added, her voice gentle and understanding.
Pearl took a deep breath and nodded slowly. "Okay," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Let's do it."
As they shared a moment of camaraderie, Kylo couldn't help but nuzzle Luna affectionately. Luna chuckled and gently pushed him away, "Kylo, honestly, stop," she said, trying to maintain her composure amidst the giggles.
"Sorry, um, I just can't help it," Kylo replied with a sheepish grin.
Luna's eyes softened, "I know this is all new, and you being my boyfriend now is making you all weird."
Kylo looked at her, slightly taken aback. "Wait, I am your boyfriend?" he asked, his voice filled with a mix of surprise and hope.
Luna giggled and nodded. "Well duh, silly! Isn't that what we established when your wolf mated with me?" she said playfully.
"It is, but honestly, I just like hearing you say it," Kylo replied, a hint of adoration in his eyes.
"Awe, you two are just so cute!" Pearl interjected, a smile spreading across her face as she watched the affectionate exchange.
"So what is with the new girl anyways? I see she made friends with Milly and Jack, but like, what is her deal?" Luna asked, curiosity evident in her voice.
"I heard she is here in search of answers about her uncle," Pearl said.
"Her uncle?" Kylo questioned, intrigued.
"Yeah, Humdinger. I think he used to be the mayor of Foggy Bottom," Pearl explained.
"The mayor of Foggy Bottom?" Luna repeated, her eyes widening. "What kind of answers is she looking for?"
"Not sure," Pearl admitted. "But from what I've gathered, it seems pretty important to her."
"Why does that name sound familiar? Humdinger... I have heard it before," Kylo said, furrowing his brow in thought.
"He did some pretty sketchy things as a mayor, I wouldn't be surprised if your dad knew him," Luna said, her voice tinged with suspicion.
"Maybe I can ask him," Kylo said as he looked to Pearl.
"According to this article, he vanished about 11 years ago and no one has heard from him since," she said.
"That is weird, where would he have gone?" Luna asked, her curiosity piqued even further.
"Who knows," Pearl replied thoughtfully. "But it would explain why she's here now, trying to piece together what happened."
"Well, whatever she finds, I hope it brings her some peace," Kylo said, his tone softening with empathy.
"Yeah, me too," Luna agreed. "It's got to be tough not knowing what happened to someone you care about."
With that, lunch was over, and they headed back to class. Pearl couldn't help but think about Cameron. Would he ever see her the way she wanted him to? This whole makeover thing—was it going to even work? She sighed, lost in her thoughts, as they walked through the bustling hallways.
As the group entered their classroom, the familiar hum of chatter and the scrape of chairs greeted them. Pearl took her seat, glancing at Cameron who was engrossed in conversation with his friends. She felt a pang of uncertainty. The bell rang, snapping her back to reality, and their teacher began outlining the day's lesson. But Pearl's mind kept drifting back to Cameron, wondering if she was making the right moves, questioning if he would ever notice the effort she was putting forth.
After school, Cameron caught up with Kylo. "Hey, sorry I wasn't with you guys. I, um, sort of got caught up. But you're coming to the party tonight, right?" he asked.
"Yeah, we are going but, um, I was wondering, Cam, do you ever wonder about Pearl? Like, dating her?" Kylo asked, trying to sound casual.
Cameron paused, looking slightly taken aback by the question. "Pearl? I mean, she's cool and all, but I never really thought about it that way," he replied, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
Kylo nodded, but didn't press the issue further. "Just curious, man. Anyway, see you at the party." He gave Cameron a light punch on the shoulder and headed off, leaving Cameron standing there, lost in thought.
As Cameron walked away, Kylo's question lingered in his mind. He found himself questioning his own feelings and actions. Had he been shallow in not considering Pearl? Were his preferences truly based on who someone was or just how they looked? He had always gone for girls like Milly, drawn by their looks despite knowing deep down that she wasn't the nicest person. His friends had warned him that Milly was using him, but he had ignored them, captivated by her beauty.
Now, reflecting on Pearl, he realized he had never given her a fair chance. It wasn't her fault she wasn't his type; he had simply never looked beyond the surface. He felt a pang of guilt, knowing his judgment might have been unfair, and he wondered if he had missed out on someone who could have been genuinely good for him. Lost in thought, he headed home, the idea of Pearl growing in his mind, challenging his perceptions and making him reconsider what he truly valued in a relationship.
Later that evening, Pearl found herself at Luna's house, getting ready for the party. Luna was diligently helping her with her makeup and styling her hair. "You look amazing," Luna said with a warm smile as she put the finishing touches on Pearl's look.
Pearl glanced at herself in the mirror, hardly recognizing the reflection staring back. Her hair cascaded in perfect waves, and her makeup accentuated her features in a way she had never seen before. "Thanks, Luna," she replied, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "I just hope Cameron notices."
Luna placed her hands on Pearl's shoulders, giving her a reassuring squeeze. "He will. Trust me, you've got this. Just be yourself and have fun."
Pearl nodded, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. As they gathered their things and headed out the door, she couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of confidence. Tonight, she was determined to step out of her comfort zone and show Cameron—and herself—that she was more than just a makeover.
As they stepped outside, Kylo was there waiting. His face lit up when he saw them, and he immediately hugged Luna. "You look so beautiful," he said, his eyes sparkling with genuine admiration.
Kylo turned his attention to Pearl and couldn't help but be impressed. "Kylo, what do you think?" Luna asked, nudging Pearl to do a spin.
"Wow," Kylo exclaimed, his eyes wide with surprise. "I mean, if I didn't know it was Pearl, I would wonder who she was." He gave a nod of approval, and Pearl's face lit up with a smile.
Pearl felt a surge of confidence at Kylo's reaction. "Thanks, Kylo," she said, her voice filled with gratitude.
"Now, let's go show everyone else what they've been missing," Luna declared, leading the way to the party.
As they arrived at the party, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy. Music pulsed through the air, and laughter echoed from every corner. Pearl's heart raced as they stepped inside, hoping her transformation wouldn't go unnoticed. She couldn't shake the feeling of unease, especially with Samara's reputation for hosting exclusive events and her strict guest list policies.
Pearl and Samara had always had a strained relationship, marked by mutual dislike and tension. Knowing she was technically uninvited added to Pearl's apprehension, making her feel like an intruder in a world she wasn't sure she belonged to.
As they were quickly ushered in, Pearl's nervousness grew. She scanned the room, looking for any sign of Samara, whose approval—or disapproval—could make or break her evening. Trying to stay close to Luna, Pearl whispered, "I hope Samara doesn't kick me out."
Luna, sensing Pearl's anxiety, squeezed her hand reassuringly. "Don't worry. You're with me, and tonight is about enjoying ourselves. Samara will see how amazing you are."
Pearl took a deep breath, trying to quell the butterflies in her stomach. She knew she had to trust Luna's confidence and embrace the moment, showing everyone—including Samara—that she was more than worthy of being there.
They spotted Cameron in the distance, and his eyes met Pearl's. Despite being distracted by Milly, Pearl definitely felt him notice her. A subtle smile tugged at his lips, and she felt her confidence soar even higher. The night was beginning to take a promising turn.
They hadn't been there long when Samara approached them, her eyes scanning Pearl with unmistakable disapproval. "Who invited you?" she demanded. "I made the guest list pretty clear."
Luna stepped forward, her tone firm yet pleading. "Come on, be nice, Samara. Pearl's with me."
"No one asked you," Samara snapped, her gaze locked on Pearl. "You don't belong here."
Pearl felt the blood drain from her face, but before she could respond, Luna intervened again. "Samara, this party is supposed to be fun for everyone. Let her stay."
"You can join her outside if you like. This is my house," Samara said.
This time, Kylo stepped in, not liking how Samara was talking to Luna. "It would be a real shame if your father found out you were having this party," he said, scanning her head for her fears.
"You wouldn't dare," Samara retorted, her voice shaking slightly.
"Let Pearl stay, and I won't," Kylo replied with a steely gaze.
Samara hesitated for a moment, her eyes flashing with anger and fear. Finally, she turned away with a huff. "Fine. But don't think this is over," she muttered before walking off.
Pearl let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding and looked gratefully at Kylo and Luna. "Thank you," she whispered.
"Don't mention it," Luna said with a smile. "Let's go enjoy the party."
With renewed confidence, Pearl followed her friends into the crowd, determined to make the most of the night.
Luna looked to Kylo, "I love your wolf and his special tricks," she said.
"He loves you too, more than you know," he replied, giving her a kiss.
"Now to get Cameron away from Milly. We didn't get Pearl all dressed up for nothing," Luna added with a wink.
Kylo chuckled, "Leave it to me. I'll see what I can do."
Luna and Pearl exchanged smiles, their spirits lifted by the camaraderie and the promise of a fun night ahead. The music pulsed through the room, and the scent of laughter and anticipation filled the air. Pearl felt her confidence soaring, ready to seize the night.
