Author's Note: Chapter 19 started as a bit of a funny chapter as so much is happening during it, I was debating who's POV everyone would want to see. Finally, I came to the realization that there were fewer you wouldn't want to see. So technically this chapter can be read in any order. The order they are in though is the way they were written.
Sean's POV
I had woken up early in the morning. I could feel that it was past sun up but nothing more than that really. I got dressed in the usual cloak and regular clothes underneath it. I opened the door to the hallway of the wing and listened. When I heard nothing, I decided to maybe go for a walk, I grabbed a notepad that was sitting there with a pen. I was going to continue writing to Alex. Maybe we could start to try and find her.
I snuck into the hallway through the curtain before letting it fall and completely block the opening blending into the wall itself. If you didn't know where to look you wouldn't have even seen it. I pulled up the hood on my cloak and looked around. It was starting to get busy in the hallway, but most people were wearing regular clothes, and were not even looking towards me. I glanced at the symbol on my cloak seeing that maybe it was the reason.
I stopped one girl walking by me. "Oh, excuse me." She said shocked that I had actually stopped her. Her eyes darted up to the symbol on the cloak before dropping back down to the ground. "I didn't mean to bump into you."
I just shook my head. "Don't worry about that. Can you show me to the garden?"
She nodded. "Most members of the Legend don't speak to us, and when they do it is to order us around because they need something."
I looked at her noticing the mark on her neck. "You were there last night. One of them fed off of you during the feeding."
She blushed but nodded. "One of my best friends drew one of the two short straws last night. I'm just about to go get her ashes."
I covered my mouth. "I'm sorry. How often does that happen?"
She shrugged. "They just tell us who is chosen when it happens. I have been told that my turn will come soon enough, we were twins, I'm just shocked that they didn't want both of us last night."
I nodded. "I had no idea about that."
She started leading me down the hallway. "We came together. We were promised that when we left it would be together. Though last night I heard them talking that Carm doesn't want to let me go, when they were picking who would join them. Chaos had grabbed both of us knowing the deal we made when Carm shook her head and pointed to me."
I smiled at her. "Well, that might be good that you might get to live on. I mean living is better than dying, isn't it?" The idea of that made sense to me, Cole had mentioned it last night that he was given a choice, and he had chosen to live. Surely if this girl wanted to die Carm would allow her to do that.
She shook her head as we got to the door of the garden. "You would think that. Though your choices have not been changed by who you will become. I think the only one who might understand is someone who had been where I am. Had their choice taken away from them."
I placed a hand on her shoulder. "I would hope that you would choose to keep going. Living in honour of your friend. Or I hope that is what my love has been doing." I took my hand away placing it on the door handle. "Talk to Carm, she might surprise you."
The girl shrugged. "I'm sure that after today that won't matter much." She smiled at me meeting my eyes for a split second. The kitten inside growled and hissed at this girl. "If you do get a chance to talk to Carm later, let her know that Ella wants to see her. I will ask what she will do." Then she walked off leaving me standing there stunned.
I looked in the door of the garden. I couldn't see either of the two but knowing that Leo if he was in here was probably up in a tree somewhere. Cole had mentioned that both him and Garrett spend there nights in the garden usually unless they get to go hunting. So maybe that is what they are doing right now, I mean he did say that he was going to get me my other clothes.
I took a seat on the stump that was there. It had been carved out into a chair shape and the entire time we had been in here yesterday I was hoping I could try it out.
Angelina walked into the garden not even bothering to knock on the doors. She smiled a wicked smile at me. "Hello Sean." She waved her hand at the door as it glowed a purple colour. "Now we can talk, then unfortunately you will have to die."
I scanned the area glancing up into the trees. The kitten was growling again. Cole had mentioned that I could pull people to me, the kitten had that power, and it was an easy one to borrow.
Leo hopped out of the tall tree in the back of the garden taking a swipe of his claw to the back of Angelina's leg. She turned around glaring at him, hitting him with her staff she carried. A few minutes of them circling each other and Leo changed back into his human form.
"You lot are all the same, completely comfortable walking around naked." She spat at him.
He smirked. Before grabbing the staff and tossing it into the grass area a distance away. "Naked or clothed in fur you can't beat me." He shifted back to his cat form and bit her left ankle and right wrist. He turned to me his cat eyes meeting mine before he walked over to the chest and changed back pulling on a pair of sweats and t-shirt.
"You stupid cat. I have locked the doors so even if you kill me, you will never leave this place." She laughed trying to crawl over to her staff.
Leo came over to me placing a hand on my knee. "How did you get here? Please tell me someone knows you have come to the garden."
I shook my head. "Everyone was still asleep. One of the girls who was there for the feeding last night showed me the way, Ella, I think her name was."
Leo shook his head. "Okay now we have two problems to deal with. Is the kitten awake?"
I nodded. "But she doesn't want to help. I tried pulling everyone to me again but all she wants to do is hiss and growl this morning."
Leo did a double take at me. "Hiss and growl. Well, that is probably a sign of danger, you should have run the other direction. For now, I think we just need to restrain Angelina. So, if you would, just form your net same as you did in the woods."
I closed my eyes visualizing the netting before attempting to capture in it. Only nothing had happened when I opened my eyes. I shook my head trying again, but nothing. "Yesterday it was instinct, right now it isn't working."
Leo smirked as a black cloak was walking by the garden. "Do you trust me?"
I gave him a funny look, but he didn't wait for a response.
He ran to the wall banging on it. When the cloaked figure turned towards us, I could see their cloak was similar to mine. When he turned to face us, I seen who it was and started shaking my head at Leo, I did trust him, but I didn't trust Xavier.
"No … no … no … absolutely not. Leo, you can't ask me to trust him!" I yelled going back to the stump seat there.
Xavier shrugged before starting to turn back. I could see the reflection of Leo's eyes change. "I can promise you that Carm will forgive everything if you help now. We have a traitor in our midst, she tried to kill Sean."
Xavier nodded. "What do you need?"
I glared at him. "I thought Garrett said the room was soundproofed."
Leo just shrugged. "It is and it isn't. It is a really long story." He waved his hands at me dismissing my comment. Before turning back to Xavier. "I need him to capture Angelina, your gift won't work on her from out there but because Sean is in here ..."
Xavier nodded. "His gift can work on her. So, what do I need to make him see?"
Leo turned to look at me. "You said yesterday it was instinct, what if we put him back there. In the forest on his way here. I'm assuming the guy snuck up on you?"
I nodded to him hanging my head.
He walked over placing a hand on my shoulder. "I'll keep you grounded. When she is all tied up then I'll remove my hand, and it is your signal to pull back to the garden."
I nodded to him before turning to face Xavier. "Okay, let's try this out." I shut my eyes before starting to relax. Yesterday it had been instinct, I had felt scared, all I had done was see the netting and it moved with my hands.
The steady weight on my shoulder kept me grounded and before I knew it a scream was ripping through the air at me and the hand was gone. I opened my eyes and looked around. A very vinelike net was holding Angelina only this time the vines seemed to be alive.
Xavier laughed. "Wow that should hold her. Now how do we get you guys out?"
Leo shrugged. "Call the Legend here maybe they have an idea. Get Garrett too, I mean this place was built for him. Maybe he knows a back door or something."
Xavier nodded putting the phone to his ear, he waited before shaking his head. He tried another one and then another. "No one is answering. They must all be busy or have already gone into see Caius this morning."
Leo turned to me. Holding out his hands. "I know the kitten only wants to hiss and growl, but right now we need it's help."
I looked at his hands before meeting his eyes then turning to Xavier. "I don't know if she will be willing to help."
Xavier nodded. "She wants you to feel safe, that is what the growling is about. Whoever you were with when that happened the kitten doesn't trust."
Leo nodded. "And now we need everyone to get us out of here. I don't know if Carm or Marco can use Angelina's gift. If either one could, she would never have been able to go on missions."
My eyes turned to Xavier. "So, it is true?" I asked him. "The last times I have done this it was completely by accident. The kitten feels safe right now. She knows neither one of you is a threat to me."
Xavier nodded as if he knew exactly what I had been asking. "Garrett and I were close. So, I understand this. You have to survive to help me give him his freedom. Leo, Cole, Garrett, me and you. We all deserve the chance to be free."
I nodded taking Leo's hands. "You'll help the kitten do this?"
He nodded. I could feel the connection between the two. I could see both of them in my mind, the little playful kitten turning to the bigger cat before batting the ball of wool away from it. It batted several balls away then a mouse toy. I opened my eyes to hear Xavier's phone ringing.
He smiled giving me a thumbs up. Whatever had just happened it must have worked. "Garrett is on his way. He, Cole, Havok had gone to the cave together. Cole wanted to talk to Havok about something to do with a situation last night."
I smiled at Xavier. I think we had finally come to an understanding.
Carm's POV
The chat with my old friends had been really nice. I had really wanted to see them and if everyone we had been looking for except one was there then there was a good chance we would get to meet up. I thought about Embry and him finally finding an imprint. Chaos seemed slightly concerned about what had happened and the possibility of us having to do something drastic to keep Alex there to help her survive this situation.
I did completely trust Sam and his abilities to hold someone on the reservation, he would come up with something. I had texted Paul earlier, like right after the call asking him to be nice to Alex, that I needed her to stay there and to stay under the protection of the pack. He had grumbled about it but had conceded to the ask that he is at very least civil to her and promised to ask her about Sean. I told him there were a few things that I needed him to ask her. He just responded with to send him the questions I wanted asked, and he would ask them, he did mention that he was taking Jared with him because Kim had to go see Carlisle for a doctor appointment.
Shaking my head I had gone to sleep after texting them both the questions. Tomorrow, I had plans to try and let Sean see the good parts of being a vampire and a part of the legend. I knew he and Xavier did not get along but the two of them I knew would work well together. Sean's gift would change ever so slightly when everything was done and eventually there would need to be someone to join this squad after I left it.
For once the future wasn't something I actually feared. Chaos would join me running things from the wing. Or maybe we could talk Aro into letting us have a house of our own, a space completely for us to enjoy. Leo would stick around if he had some more freedom. Garrett would return to his pack as the one who joined vampires and werewolves. Cole, the little tornado, would rule the roost in the wing as he would take the biggest bedroom. Havok, I'm not sure about him with the rest of his team leaving he might be in search of a new one. I can't ever see him actually leaving the line of work he is in. He can never be content behind the scenes.
Sleep finally took over as I snuggled against Chaos. A kiss to my forehead when Cole had trotted into the room and whispered something to him told me he was going out for a bit. I settled for the night knowing everyone was safe as they could be for the time being.
Morning came and the sun peaked through the curtains blinding me as I opened my eyes. Chaos wasn't back from the cave yet. I threw on sweats and a t-shirt before walking sock footed into the hallway. There was nothing there, no sound that could have woken me. I stretched my senses out between all of them I should be able to feel all of the others. Chaos was in the library, I should have guessed that he loved reading. There had been some nights when him simply offering to read to me had gotten me to relent and allow the others to watch a different movie. I stretched further searching out the rest of my team. Marco was with Jane, and he had blocked me other than knowing his location.
A tap on my shoulder had me looking up to see Torrent.
"Caius wants to know if you want to interrogate the prisoner that was caught. He might know the location of the wereanimal we are hunting a bit better."
I nodded. "I think it would be best if we did that. Can you grab Xavier and have him meet me after he goes to see Caius this morning for his usual."
Torrent gulped but nodded to me.
Garrett didn't know yet about the rest of the deal that was made that allowed him to live. Xavier and I had fought over telling him. Though each time I had relented and allowed the situation to still be a secret and was forced to treat everything that Xavier did towards Garrett as an act of evil. The others in the team had seen some of the results of his punishment but I doubted at this point even his own brother knew the full truth.
"You know how he is after those situations especially the first one after we return home. Are you sure you want his help, with all the negative stuff happening."
I knew my eyes had turned to a shade that wasn't normal when I met his. "I could always request you take his place with Caius instead."
Torrent shook his head. "I don't know what goes on between those two and honestly, I'd rather not find out. I will go wake him and ask that he joins you after his is done with Caius this morning."
I nodded waving my hand at him dismissing him before returning to my task of finding everyone. Most members of the legend stayed within the palace unless they felt like going outside for a walk when they were at home. Havok and Cole had left to go for a walk and there was a wolf presence with them, they must have taken Garrett out of a run probably to the cave. Cole had mentioned something about wanting to get Sean some normal clothes, I had reminded him to grab the other cloaks but knowing him he would probably forget about that.
Trance, Splinter and Noddy were in the main part of the wing in a heated discussion about something that I couldn't understand.
I started looking for Sean, he was harder to sense but his emotions would probably give him away completely. Focusing all my energy and he wasn't within the walls of the wing. I shook my head about to start screaming which would pull every member of the legend from whatever they were doing to my location unless they were blocking me. Taking a deep breath, I concentrated on Sean but nothing. Panic began to rise in me as there was a chance that he might be in more danger here.
Over the years, I had suspected that there was a traitor somewhere within the Volturi as every attempt to end the curse always came up short. We were always just a little too late even for my blood to save the person. Normally it had been the vampire part, which is why Xavier, and I had spent long hours hunting down the location of who would take over the vampire part and exactly what we needed to do to keep that person alive long enough.
We had gotten lucky with Sean. Demetri had been able to find him, locate the spirit as it was starting to descend into him. Chaos had poisoned it ever so slightly making sure to weaken it and not Sean until we could find the other two parts. We had specified that ones guarding him were to help him hold onto his humanity, Benjamin had done amazing with that.
That still doesn't help me find Sean now. I don't think he would have been crazy enough to try and leave the palace. The walk through town yesterday had been hard enough on him he was smart enough not to risk that. Going back into my room I threw on the cloak sending a sense of fear out through the wing which would pull everyone to me. Just as I made it to the front of the wing, I could feel a pulling. It was Leo pulling us all to the garden, but the cat was different. It was a playful grey and black kitten with bright green eyes.
Chaos met me at the door. "Where are we going?"
I looked at him. For once he wasn't in his usual cloak, he had sweats on and a sweatshirt as if he was planning on doing some training. I gestured to his lack of a cloak. "You can't leave the wing dressed like that. I mean after all they are your rules."
He smiled grabbing one of them from the doorway. "I had left it here. The cat pulling us isn't Leo or Cole and I don't know where to go."
I shook my head. "Probably the garden. And I think it is the cat connected to Sean. It looks almost like the wolf that imprinted on the cat."
He nodded following me out of the wing and down to the garden. When we made it to the door it had a weird purple glow around it. Chaos walked around to the side seeing Xavier standing there at the wall of the garden. His hands were glowing meaning he had been using his gift, he better not had locked Sean and Leo in the garden.
Leo banged on the window wall at us pulling me to him.
"Glad you are here. Angelina locked us in here. Well, she only thought she was locking Sean. She tried to kill him."
I nodded before turning to Xavier. "You were supposed to be to see Caius more than 10 minutes ago." I placed a hand on his shoulders. "He isn't going to be happy having to wait."
Pleading eyes met mine going between me and Sean. "Leo stopped me on my way. He needed my help to get Sean's ability to activate." He gulped glancing down at his hands. They were bare and bits of the scars on his wrists could be seen. "No one else could have helped. And no one was answering their phones."
I felt my pockets as Chaos did the same. I turned to him with pleading eyes. He and Havok could reason with Caius for Xavier. He was stopped to help the reason why all of this started. Chaos nodded to me with a smile. Before turning back to Leo.
"Any ideas of how to get out of there?"
Leo shook his head. "Not a clue. She has locked the only doors I know about. Garrett is on his way back and I was hoping he knows about another way."
"Who lead Sean here? Carm is going to needs some more strength to break through this bond. I want to know who dies for this."
Sean ran to the windows. "She wants to die. You two took their twin last night, her name is Ella. She led me here. Then when our eyes met the kitten started growling and hissing."
Cole came rushing over still in his cat form along with Garrett both had Havok running after them as they made it to a skidding stop at the glass wall.
"Cole shredded his outfit as we were on our way to the cave and started running. Garrett followed on his heels and had me running to keep up. They both should be grounded for that." He finally looked up at the glass wall that the two wereanimals almost ran into. "Why is Leo standing against the glass?" His eye spanned the wall. "And what are those vines?" Before his eyes landed on Xavier. "You are in deep enough trouble as it is. Being late to meet Caius isn't going to help matters."
I laughed for a second as did Sean. The memory of him rambling off questions not giving Torrent a chance to answer him from yesterday. "Leo is at the glass because Angelina locked them in the garden and tried to kill Sean. The vines are part of Sean's gift. As for Xavier, following this you and Chaos are going to go speak to Caius about allowing Xavier to skip today because he helped save Sean's live. I think that qualifies for an act of good." I then turned to Cole and Garrett. "Go throw on some clothes, if I am going to reverse this lock I'll be needing to feed."
Cole was the first one back still pulling on a shirt. "What do you need?"
Chaos's eyes turned to a blood red before he answered. "Go find Ella, have Alec take her to the dungeon and lock her to the wall. Strip her of everything. But on the way find one for Carm to feed on."
Garrett, Havok and Cole all took off to do as Chaos had demanded.
Sean came up to the glass. "What are you going to do to Ella?"
He shrugged. "That depends. She wanted death so the best thing for us to do would be to not grant her that. I was thinking of turning her into a wereanimal. And then a vampire. Keep her chained up for eternity in the dungeon. Cole told me once of one they did that to they went mad. The need for the kill driving them to shift into their animal and never be able to shift back. Stuck to spend eternity like that until one day Carm will decide to kill them with her venom, of course that will be slow and extremely painful."
Sean's eyes met mine, they were pleading with me to spare this girl that pain. "She endangered your life, brought you to a place for you to be killed. Told Angelina where you were so she could kill you. It was only luck that Leo was there and knew the one piece of glass that he could talk through. You would have been screaming in there, begging for help and no one would have heard you." I shook my head. "I will allow you to decide Angelina's fate. Though it will be death you can decide who gives it to her."
Xavier's POV
I was woken by banging on my door. I grumbled as I dragged myself from my bed glaring at the smiling vampire standing there. "What do you want?"
He held up his hands at me in surrender. "Carm has requested that you make your way to see Caius for whatever you two do. Then she is going to need your help interrogating a prisoner we captured."
I nodded pulling down the sleeves of my shirt almost forgetting I had rolled them up. For the days following our visits I was grateful for the cloaks, probably one of the only times I was happy about having to wear them.
His eyes glossed over which had me growling. "Leave it alone Torrent." I slammed the door walking over to the bed using a knife to cut my finger releasing the chain that held me. I set the timer on my phone for 15 minutes. I actually had 17 but I wanted to make sure I made it on time.
I threw on a sweatshirt over a t-shirt and my cloak along with a pair of sweats. Then began my walk to see Caius in his study. I wanted this part of the day to be over, Caius knew starting the day like this would make it harder for me to be in a good mood and play nicely. Though I also knew that Carm was probably right, that if Garrett knew about this, he would probably stop trying to provoke a response. Out of everyone besides Carm the only two who knew about all of this was Leo and Chaos. Chaos only knew because I needed his help a few times and it was part of the deal. He was furious when he had found out about the deal, from what Leo and Cole had said they had to hold him back from going after Caius when he found out. That night Leo had come to me and asked what the deal was as he had never looked into my future when I had to go for these things because Carm had asked him not. He respected her enough to not go against her wishes.
Garrett had been my friend. When my brother and I got turned into vampires I had hated everything about this life. The day Garrett and I had met each other it was as if I had someone who seen the world the same way as I did. That night when he said to me at dinner that he didn't want any blood because the vampire was gone, Havok had overheard him. And being the loyal one he had gone to Caius to tell him about this. I had thought when Carm came back she would overthrow the three, after all she was more powerful.
After the entire thing with Leo, Carm had vowed to stay with me and help find the rest of pairs in hopes of ending the curse and setting everyone free.
My walk today took me by the garden. When Leo came banging on the glass of the one pane that you could talk through. Garrett had that put in so that we could talk when one of us was in the garden and the other was out here. The banging cracks the soundproofing allowing us to talk through it, even a paw hitting it would do that.
I turned looking at him, though the cloak hid a lot of my face from view he knew who it was. No member of the legend would willingly be out of the wing at this hour. His eyes had met mine pleading with me for help even as Sean exclaimed that I couldn't be trusted. I had turned away as it would be seen as an act of negativity if I helped when he didn't want me. Then Leo said the only magic words that would work, that Carm would forgive me. If Carm went to Caius and said she forgave me for everything I would be only getting a normal time with him today.
I thought about the forest; it had been a while since I had been in there. But I knew Carm well enough to know the path she would have taken from the cave to the palace. Leo helped allowing me to pull from him where the situation had happened.
Leo had helped him stay grounded through the process. And when Angelina was captured against the wall of windows with the vines, I was shocked. If this is what this kid could do, then he was almost too powerful to let go. Chaos would never allow him to be a free one.
When I pulled out my phone, I tried calling Carm, she usually had her phone on her. But nothing no response. None of the others besides Rylin or Malachi would take my call but both of them would be useless here. I didn't know anyone who could get past Angelina's locks. Then after a few minutes a call went out pulling all of the members of the legend to the garden. Carm had told me that there would be something that would pull me to Sean. I would see something in him that would join who I truly was to who he was. That humanity of wanting to save everyone. Maybe if he was around, he might like watching some Captain America, and as long as Hawkeye was in it Carm might allow it. Elijah had been the first one to us. He placed his hands on the door as a vibration shot through them. Growling he took off for his room.
Carm had allowed Sean to decide who would kill Angelina when his eyes met mine. Garrett returned with Havok and Cole. Both were still in their animal forms. Garrett sniffed at my arms, and though his cold nose felt nice against the burning skin I couldn't allow this. I looked up at Leo who motioned for Garrett to stop. Carm did come to my rescue though explaining that Chaos and Havok were to go and speak to Caius about me being late and allow me to miss today without any consequences. Havok didn't seem impressed, but Chaos nodded.
By the time the three came back they had Ella and another human with them. Hisses and growls rang through the three wereanimals we had here as Sean held his stomach. I laughed slightly, he probably had two of them going nuts in there wanting to get at Ella for her betrayal.
That is when Elijah returned, he was wearing boxing gloves and bouncing around. Carm giggled as the rest of the legend had arrived. The glass on the door was technically unbreakable so I was curious as to what Carm planned to do. That is until Elijah placed his hands on Carm's shoulders just as Sean yelled for them to stop.
"He is going to hurt you. He almost raddled a window free last time he did that to that one." He pointed to the pane of glass that was 3 away from where they were standing.
Carm just laughed. "He won't hurt me, but this idea will work. Garrett had it made so if we ever needed this that Elijah, and I had to work together. Bring both teams home to get the door open." She sent a wave of calm though the group. Before holding her head and backing away from Elijah.
Carm turned looking around the group before her eyes landed on me. "Take Rylin and Malachi and head back to the wing. I will deal with Caius." I nodded walking towards the two she had named who were standing. "Keep him in his room." They nodded to her.
"What was passing through your head that made her send you away?" Malachi taunted.
But before I could react Rylin spoke. "Leave it alone. I don't think she was attempting to get rid of your brother. I think you were the problem."
I nodded to Rylin who smiled. "I think she was also afraid of Caius coming and finding me standing there not actively helping instead of up with him."
Rylin nodded. "You might be right. Our little Carm is just like you in a lot of ways. Trying to save everyone she loves."
I smiled. "That is why I stopped. Leo asked for my help, then promised that Carm would forgive me for everything I've done."
Malachi laughed. "How did you help? Create a nice picture for the little kitten to look at?"
When we got to the wing Rylin had me sit down and wait for him just inside the door. He took Malachi outside and spoke very quietly to him. I could see he wasn't happy about the situation, and I had learned that he was one person you didn't want to be on the wrong side of.
I pulled out my phone deciding to maybe try and help the situation with Sean a bit more. I pulled up Leo's contact info and pressed the text button. It had honestly been a while since I had texted him and I hoped his phone was with him. 'I know Sean will be having fighting classes. You know with everything that is going to happen to end the curse. Maybe we should teach him.'
I could almost see him laughing about this. Though I hoped it would lighten the mood there and actually help out. He replied back though. 'Sounds like fun. Though Cole already said he would do that along with me and Rylin though he forgot to mention that to either of us.'
I laughed, that sounded like Cole. 'No reason why I can't help. Besides when Chaos sees what Sean can do, do you really think he is going to allow him to leave?'
He was probably glaring at his phone now which would cause tension in the room. I needed to calm him down. 'Okay forget about that for now. We are the best fighters around, because we both fight dirty when we do. I know you almost jumped in yesterday. ;)'
Him jumping in would have been against the rules. But I had seen him using his gift over in the corner which made me glad that Torrent had stepped in.
'lol. I forgot you had that third eye. Sounds good though. Will chat with Cole about it later. As for now Carm isn't having much luck, you know anything that could help?'
I thought back. Pulling memories from that time was hard but I moved to the floor, the ground would help hold me here as I pushed myself back in time to a happier time when they were building the garden for Garrett. The tunnel we had built going from the far edge of the palace grounds to inside the garden walls. That is how Garrett had escaped that night, it let out on the far side of the wall, but the entrance had been closed long ago.
'I might, but I would need Elijah's help. You cool to sit tight for another hour?'
'Hour might be tight, but Elijah is on his way. Carm promised anyone you need will help you.'
I huffed for a second. 'I need Chaos and Garrett. Chaos because we are technically leaving palace grounds to get to the entrance of the tunnel and Garrett because it has been years since we have been there.'
Seconds passed as Elijah came running for the wing. "Lets go. We don't want to be missing training."
I laughed for a second. "We need two others."
When Chaos and Garrett arrived, Elijah looked between the two. "You are the other two we need. Well, that is shocking." He looked at Chaos, "You sure walking off palace grounds, which I'm assuming that is why you are here. Is a good idea with these two together?"
He shrugged, ignoring most of his questions before turning to me. "Havok has gone to speak to Caius for you about this morning. Alec has gone with him at Carm's request."
I gulped. "Forget about us two, I think we should be more worried about Alec and Havok together unless Cole is around."
Chaos laughed. "Havok will keep his head. Carm was just grateful you asked me to be here because she isn't so convinced how I would react going solo to see Caius about this morning."
Garrett had stayed quiet but his eyes said more words than before. "Why did you need us here?"
I laughed for a second before turning to him. "Remember the night you left how you got out of the garden when I locked you in there?"
His eyes grew big as memories of that night and what I was hinting at. "It is outside palace grounds which is why we need Chaos because I'm restricted to the palace. But why do we need Elijah?"
I laughed again. "We sealed the entrance from there remember."
He nodded. "I left for 3 days to say farewell to my pack. When I returned it was sealed, and you had left with the legend. Reportedly having spend 36 hours with Caius before leaving."
Chaos's eyes burned red before my hand touched his arm. "Hold your head. We need to concentrate about getting to Sean and Leo."
Chaos shook for a second. "I know. How do you plan on getting out of there once we break in?"
Garrett laughed. "A wereleopard and werewolf we are very powerful. Then as long as Carm is powered up enough her and Elijah should be able to crack the glass enough that we can break through."
Chaos POV
I had kissed Carm's forehead before leaving her sleep. After that call she had been very uptight about everything. I had offered to go a round or two with her in the practice area, but she didn't want to do that. I truthfully didn't think she knew what she wanted right now. Her head was spinning with possible outcomes. I knew enough about Paul that he could really push people away and for that she was super worried that it was going to make the task of keeping Alex at the reservation even harder.
I contemplated going into the village and seeing if they still had the teleporter there, maybe see if we could go there. But I knew going behind Carm's back to get that done was not going to go over well. Well besides the fact that she wasn't going to leave Xavier to handle things here on his own. I did feel for him he was carrying around too many secrets. Everything out in the halls seemed quiet, Cole had run into an issue with Xavier after I had left with Carm, but he had handled it. Besides he along with the others only seen what Xavier did as stuff against Sean. And Xavier refused to allow any of the few of us who knew about the situation to do or tell anyone about it.
That night that I had found out because Carm had asked me to go talk to Caius for her. She had explained what the deal was, why she wouldn't settle down. I had been furious about it but had held the fury until she had left then Cole and Leo had to hold back the urge to murder Caius. Following that I do believe Leo went to ask Xavier about what had happened. It was on a rare occasion that our two teams were back at home base together.
I paced the main room once more before staring up at the ceiling. Rylin stood at the door of the room just looking on, there was worry in his eyes and that was an emotion he didn't often show. I continued to pace back and forth before looking at him directly. "You needed something?" I asked.
He shook a full body shake. "I know you are worried about the fact we haven't found the last of the shifters we need to complete the curse." He paused glancing around. "After you and Carm left Xavier and Malachi both went after Sean. Cole did step in the way, but I think they should both be punished for their actions. Shall I inform someone of the wishes to see to it that they are both punished?"
I huffed, rubbing my temples. "See to it that Malachi spends a week in the stables. I will handle Xavier myself."
He didn't immediately turn away, just stood there thinking about it. "Everyone will think you are letting him off easy. Carm had already warned him, and Malachi had punished him minutes before for misbehaving against Sean. Caius would ensure that doesn't happen again."
I growled balling my hands into fists. "No. I will speak with Carm, and I will handle Xavier." I took a breath for a second. "If I am informed that Caius somehow found out about this then you will be taking his place for his full punishment as well as his visit to Caius in the morning do you understand?"
He nodded shrinking away from me. To most outside of the legend they think that Havok runs most things. But to all within the legend they know this is mine and Carm's domain. He knew if he stepped out of line on this, he would be the one paying the price for it. From the outside it must look like we were all being soft on Xavier, but truth be told certain things did work.
"I will make sure that it stays within the walls of the wing what happened. I will also go awaken Malachi and inform him that he is spending the week in the stables." He ran off out of the main hall towards Malachi's room.
Malachi would complain all week about his punishment which would make it very hard to contain the issue, but Rylin would have to try and calm him from blowing his mouth off around others because he would still be punished if Caius found out some other way. I would have to speak with Carm about watching over Xavier to ensure he didn't get any blow back from this. From what Cole had said when he stepped between Xavier and Sean, he didn't push the matter. He merely just fired words at him. I had a different idea for Xavier. I suspect with his dislike he wouldn't exactly want to be having to mentor him, but I think that would be perfect. The kid was full of questions which would be a constant annoyance having to answer them and be there for him.
I started walking towards the library. I was hopeful tonight we could all sit down and chat about what was going to be coming. Create a plan of attack so that this one didn't slip through our fingers like they had in previous years. The one wall of the library was Carm's wall that she was attempting to map out everything needed to end the curse. This time it seemed like we had most of the pieces.
The cat or leopard was with her old imprint in Washington. The connection to humanity was there too though there were concerns about how long she would stay. Before tonight we would have to sit Sean down and question him about Nikita, Birkoff and Alex. Sean was here with us so we knew he was safe as can be. I mean unless Carm's slight suspicion about there being a traitor in the palace was actually true, which I did very much doubt. So now all we needed was the wolf. The good news was if Carm was right about the leopard being the stronger one even if they did manage to kill the wolf, we could end the worst part of the curse with just the leopard and the vampire.
I opened the safe that held the only copy of the journal we had access to. Taking it out and opening it to look at what it said. Though I didn't let others see my interest in this I did have a great deal. I wanted to slow down. The legend had grown from the original 6 to what it was now. If Leo was correct about Sean being as powerful as he was, he could easily join up with one of the teams. Alex could be handled very easily, as I am sure Garrett would take care of that problem then he would have a few years of her learning before she could return to the palace. Looking down at the page it explained that the vampire had to completely submit to the wereanimal allow the bite to happen, but it could only be a bite anything more and it would kill him. And we would simply be back at square one all over again.
I paced the library book in hand reading it. It didn't say if the bite would actually end up killing the vampire or transitional vampire. I mean the kid still needs normal food. I let out a laugh as I cross the room for the fourth time. Carm would be annoyed by now grumbling at me about the fact that I couldn't sit still or stand still. That usually ended with her on top of my lap and us cuddling as the only way for me to sit still.
A shake went through the wing. Carm was using her power to locate all the vampires. She probably guessed about me being in the library but still it was concerning that she would be using this much power so early in the morning especially when there was a prisoner to question.
Minutes passed before a pull of a cat. It wasn't Leo, I knew that cat all too well. After all it was my venom that changed him into the vampire he is. There was a sense of him, but he wasn't the one pulling us all now. Cole would be feeling it too, if it was this strong pulling us here then out beyond the walls of the palace where everything is dimmed the sheer force is going to be huge.
The laugh that escaped me that Havok had left for the cave with Garrett and Cole. Leo had said that the feel of this can cause them to shift uncontrollably. I prayed that Cole wasn't in one of his favourite pair of sweats they would be ruined. I headed for the main room where Carm was standing.
Our conversation was brief mostly pertaining to the fact that my cloak was hanging up and not on my shoulders and it was my rule that I would be breaking. I very much knew that Carm awaited the day when I forgot about it, she was patient enough. Though I knew the day I stepped down the cloaks would be gone. The only one that understood the need for them was Havok. He had been around before all of this began. The way us hunters were treated, returning to the palace always with a captive most of the time grungy and dirty. The cloaks gave us status, made Aro finally realize that he needed us to help him run the vampires.
After I had retrieved my cloak, and we were walking for the garden. I shook seeing Xavier standing there still by the garden. He was so late meeting Caius, but when we understood the situation going on we seen the usefulness of Xavier.
Sean was scared that Ella though she wanted death was going to face a worse punishment. I knew of the deal they had coming to the palace, but her and her twin would pay for the betrayal. Anger soared through my veins as I realized that Carm had been right. Angelina a trusted member was working for the other side. Sean would decide how Angelina did die, the part that I had left out though was that her partner would also face the wrath of the legend, and I was sure that Carm would agree. Carm's eyes met mine as I told Sean he would be able to decide how or rather who killed the traitor. She knew there was more there than what I was saying. We had to be powerful enough to not allow this act to go unpunished.
When the rest of the legend arrived Leo seemed to calm a bit well as calm as he could be locked in an impenetrable room with a traitor bent on the destruction of the one person who could set you free. I knew Carm was struggling that stagger backwards meant more than a lot of people knew. There was too much tension around the room, so she sent away three of the vampires. Xavier had been calm throughout trying to help calm Sean that Carm was stronger than anyone knew. I hid the smile that would have shown to everyone.
Minutes later and Carm attempting to break through Leo started texting someone. When our eyes met, he just smiled. Very few expressions came through though his concentration was on his phone until he called out to Carm.
"I know it is getting harder. Xavier has an idea, but he says he needs Elijah. Probably with his gloves, I think there might be another way."
Relieve passed through her as she came into my arms. "Elijah, go!" she turned back to Leo. "Anyone else he needs tell him he has them."
Leo turned back to his phone typing out the message. Before a ding came. He gulped looking up meeting eyes with me then down to Carm. "He needs Chaos and Garrett too."
Carm just simply nodded. "Havok go grab Alec. Have him join you to go for a chat with Caius. He will be searching for Xavier and that is the last thing we need is Samuel getting involved." She turned kissing my cheek nuzzling her nose against the base of my ear. "Go, take Garrett and go help him. Leo wouldn't be asking if he didn't think this idea would work."
Garrett and I walked away down the hall towards the wing. He was an odd presence to have with me at the moment. He was calm, I however felt anything but calm. Xavier was missing his mandatory punishment because of this traitor. And no matter what Havok said or did someone would have to pay the price for this. Worry came over me as I remember what she had said to grab Alec and go for the chat with him. Only one reason to grab him was to be the draw for Carm to go take it. She would be accepting whatever the punishment was, and from what I had heard she had already disobeyed an order from him so the results wouldn't be good.
Everything that was happening right now between Carm and Xavier was all because he had chosen to pay the price without telling Garrett about it to keep his friend which he can't even be close to now without acting like they hate each other.
Kennedy's POV
People paced by the door of the cell where I was held. We had been camping out in the film set for the Shire. I had seen pieces of it when we had walked here. They of course all had nice clothes and shoes to wear, I got scraps of clothes and barely enough to keep me warm or be comfy to sleep. The place was small as I glanced around looking for another escape hatch.
The only reason why we had moved is one of them seemed to be able to read my mind, pull thoughts from my head and make me forget them.
The sun was rising above the windows which would mean they were stuck inside for the day normally which means no fun for me. The leader came back into the room glaring at me. "He hasn't turned yet, not able to call out his wolf."
The usual guard shook his head. "Maybe he isn't close enough to being 18. Or maybe you took the wrong child." He was standing up facing the leader now.
"If I took the wrong one, he would be dead. We can't be at the prophesied pair yet, so he must be the one." The leader stated back.
The guard shook his head. "He has been having dreams since we started having fun with him. What if we were to just turn him, if he is the one that puts an end to the try."
The leader stroked his chin. "You do have a point, but I like the idea of playing with him some more. I was thinking of introducing him to the local pack. Maybe being around his kind will draw that king spirit out of him."
I'm a king. No, he must be lying. If I was a king, then people would be looking for me. And this is the only life I have ever known. But there is this girl, long black hair the strangest coloured eyes I had ever seen and a little kitten at her feet. The wolf inside me does pull to the kitten and the two of them play together sometimes.
"If they know what he is they might contact Italy, we know they took a wolf it was from one of the first ones but if he is still alive …" He looked down not finishing the sentence.
The leader laughed. "If he is still alive it means he is a vampire mix. And probably very closely guarded no way would the local pack there venture into the palace to save one that betrayed them."
The guard didn't respond. I could see the words floating in the air and decided to start laughing. "He is worried about a vampire being able to be the go between for them. Someone powerful like the kitten that I can see when I close my eyes."
The leader shook. "No, you smell like a wolf. There should be no kittens, leopards shouldn't be having another one."
The guard looked around. "Isn't that why you sent Taylor to that school. You knew there was another one and then the only way we can fully stop the curse from being lifted is by killing the vampire. Well, he isn't even a vampire, and we have no clue where he even is."
The leader just shook his head pulling out his phone. "Actually, we know exactly where the vampire is, and I think it is about time we solve that little problem."
He dialed a number on the phone putting onto speaker before one of them came to my cell and gagged me with a large rope. I saw red and then blue as the rope grew cold and shattered. The guard laughed for a second forcing me to lay down on the shattered pieces of rope. "Well at least we know this one is the ice part of the equation."
The leader snorted turning back to the phone when someone picked it up. "I think it is about time you had a conversation with the little vampire there."
The girl on the screen shook. 'The full legend is here. Samuel called them all home. Chaos won't allow anything to happen, you know what he can do.'
The guard laughed. "I would be more worried about Carm in that situation. She has connections that reach far beyond the vampire world."
Carm, I had heard that name before. The night we were walking through the village to get here. One of them mentioned that name. She has to be someone connected to all of this, if I could connect with the kitten half maybe she could find out. Though she still seems really in the dark as to what happened.
The girl shook her head. 'Carm, you just have to make her mad enough and she will kill you fast. I can try and sway a few of the humans to help me get the boy alone then I could slip him something that would kill him.'
The leader laughed. "I can see it. Carm walking by finding him dead the blood from his body forcing her arms to hurt and her sinking to the ground knowing her chances are lost." He took a seat. "That sounds good. But if you get yourself caught you better not be able to give us away, have a plan to ensure you aren't questioned. Nolan should be getting close to you if you need him."
'I haven't seen him yet. But they have caught all your spies you have sent. I think Carm senses something is up with me. She has been watching me closely since we got back.'
The guard turned to her. "Well make sure you aren't there when he dies. Make up some excuse as to why you have to leave Volterra. You aren't a part of the legend so they can't hold you."
A name you need to say her name. I started chanting to myself. This had worked once they had rambled about a plan, and I eventually got the full thing. I could just shout it at her and maybe get an answer but then they would be more guarded.
'I can plan something for the morning. If he wakes up early enough, they have him staying in a room that can somehow lead out into the hallway. He is bound to go looking for some quiet time and that will lead him to the garden. Cole, Leo and Garrett are going out early with at least one member of the legend I could do it then.'
Everyone cheered. "That sounds amazing Angelina. Then get back here. See if you can find Nolan, he hasn't been answering us and with the full legend being back you very well know Aaron will be close to the palace. He and Jasson only like it when Carm is there because she takes their little prince out to see them."
'Do I bring Nico back with me too?'
The guard shook his head. "No leave him there in cause this attempt doesn't work we will need someone to throw doubt that you were responsible for this." He thought for a second. "Any idea on locations for the kitten if there does happen to be one."
The girl shook her head. 'They are staying pretty quiet about everything. I know I have heard of a possible map somewhere, but I can't find it. The only place I haven't looked is in the wing, but you need access to get past the doors there.'
The leader nodded. "Okay, search until you have to put your plan in place. We have located one box anyway and it is on the way here. Well as soon as Taylor can get it open it will be. The lock is rather difficult on it."
The wolf inside me smiled. And like some other times he was able to talk to me through some kind of telepathy. 'The box was something the leopards came up with. Physical things to help with the transition and possibly ending the curse that ties us all together. It can only be opened by their bloodline. Our bloodline. Don't let them take your blood. We only have about another month to wait before the change happens. Sooner if you feel your life is in danger.'
I quietly crawled over to the corner of the cell away from the phone conversation still happening. 'I always feel like my life is in danger. I'm not this king you want me to be.'
A smile crossed his lips even bigger than before. 'Oh, you have powers you don't know of yet. Garrett's line is stronger than any other and his is the cursed line. His great grandfather was the first then they mingled with leopards and that is how we get the kitten who sometimes comes to play. She is stronger than you, but she doesn't know about the battle that lies ahead of her. Reach out to her in your dreams you have to show her the world you live in. But the shire is too big too broad, she will draw a map and get good vampires here. She will get someone here to rescue us, or if it isn't soon enough, we will meet her in her home. Though I very much suspect will be the case, I can only see their plan to take this win away going horribly.'
I laughed well giggled quietly. 'So, she is connected to this Carm? And why are we hiding in New Zealand I mean this is a really odd location to hide out. We are in a village built for middle earth. I seen that as we walked by.'
He finally lay down. 'I know you did and your connection for that to get through is huge. If they take you to the pack. Find the leader, beg him to get a message to Jasson the current leader of the Volterra pack as long as you can trust him. There will be corruption within the pack that has been bought by this group of vampires. But not all, trust your instincts they won't lead you wrong.'
With that he shut his eyes, and I opened mine. I focused for a minute on keeping a clear mind. I couldn't risk someone pulling this from my brain. The wolf helped building a den around my brain for me allowing him to sleep safely in there. I only had a month left really to wait then I will become this wolf I think is how he put it.
The leader came over to the corner of the cell glaring down at me. "I can't see what you are thinking about. Your brain is a glass ice wall."
I laughed. "I actually had no clue I could do that until just then. But I suspect there is more to come and I'm guessing the more scared I feel the worse things will get." I turned my attention to the phone that was still working on the table. Ice crystals formed at the base of the table before very quickly working their way up and covering the table and the phone.
The guard came forward. "We don't have her number saved and the card in this one is probably fried now thanks to him. You should just let us turn him."
The leader shook his head. "No need for that, I mean as soon as I have word from Angelina our little problem is handled, I'll hand the traitor wolf over to the pack. His bloodline will stay here on this island and end with him along with Caius's chances of ever ending the curse."
No, I'm not a traitor. He said I was a king. I thought back to the few schools I had gone to until the teachers got nosey enough to start asking questions. A king can be a traitor if he is overthrown. But the wolf said I can be the one to end everything. I needed to sleep, pull a nightmare to the kitten again. I think the last one was rather genius we went to the final night that the hobbits were in the Shire before they left for the journey. I just kept playing that again and again for her. She had jumped between Merry and Pippin full of energy and a wild ride that was ahead.
I yawned to the leader. "I think it is time for me to get some sleep." This would annoy him but sadly there was nothing he could do. When I said I was going to sleep always within about 10 minutes I was out cold for some power. So, I can turn things to ice by thinking about it and go to sleep in seconds if I ever need to do that.
Alex's POV
I sat nervously in the chair in the living room. Ryan had texted saying Jared and Paul were on their way over to the house. They had apparently been over there for part of the afternoon with just Ryan, Embry and Charlie. Owen had left early this morning saying he had something to deal with in Seattle and to not wait dinner on him besides he was probably going over to see Birkoff for dinner.
I had que cards all set for this meeting. Nikita and I had run over my plan for the movie night several hundred times to make sure it was perfect. I even had some questions for them to make it seem like I was trying because of the choice of movie had to be perfect.
The doorbell rang and I almost jumped in my seat. Nikita got up going to the door looking at the two boys standing there.
"Hi, we are here to see Alex?" the shorter one asked. Though there wasn't much of a difference between the two of them.
Nikita nodded pointing to the living room. "She is in there. I was hoping I could stay make her feel more comfortable."
The taller one laughed. "I promise we will be on our best behaviour. An old friend of mine will seriously kick my butt if I'm not nice."
I smiled at Nikita. "Why don't you go work on some stuff for your classes for next week. If I need you, I'll call."
She gave me a stern look but relented and left the room.
They sat down on the couch together introducing themselves. The taller one was Paul, I knew from the chat with Leah that he was the one I was going to have to impress the most. Though Jared seemed to be more of the leader of the two of them.
"Okay." Jared started out. "We have some questions that we need answered. Some come from Embry which I'm sure you can guess. Then some come from Sam and a pile come from the old friend of Paul's here."
Paul glared at him. "I promised I would be nice to her not to you." He put him in a head lock, and I just sat back trying to figure out what to do.
Jared just laughed when the broke free of each other. "I know you did." He turned to me. "Who's would you like to be asked first?"
I thought for a second. "Let's go with Embry's. But after we go through this, I have a few questions I was wondering if you could answer for me?"
Paul laughed behind his hand. "About this movie night? You know even if I could convince Embry to say okay to that idea he never would."
Jared hit him and nodded. "We will answer what we can." He took a breath before pulling out his phone and taking a look at it. "There are two questions from Embry and one of them is from Sam as well, but we put them both here. Why did you spy on Charlie that night when she was talking to Owen in the kitchen while the BBQ was going on outside?"
I nodded; Michael had told me to keep it as casual as possible. "Okay. So, during the BBQ I had tried to talk to her several times. But she either completely ignored me or she walked away when I started to try and talk to her. Though that happened again last night when we went shopping. When I heard her talking inside to Owen I didn't mean to spy on them, I just wanted to know something about her that might help me shrink the gap that was between the two of us."
Paul nodded as if he was accepting of that answer. "Okay, that does actually make sense if you know Charlie well enough." He looked at Jared's phone. "Why do you think you are the better one to talk to Charlie about what she has been through?"
I glanced down at my notes for a second. I had known this question was coming and right now it seems the answer I had written down for it didn't seem like enough. "Growing up I was closer to my father than I was to my mom. When I was very young our house burned down. Years later I found out my mom had been saved from that fire as I had been, but she never knew, and I never knew. So, we didn't go looking for each other. Then there is Sean. He was a real love of mine, but he died in my arms." I shut my eyes for a second trying to stop the tears. "I have lost a lot of people but that one is still fresh. I think me being the one to talk to Charlie will allow her to see that all this takes time to heal from."
Jared's eyes grew before he turned to Paul. The two of them looked to be having some kind of really odd conversation silently. Though it was Paul who finally spoke to me.
"What was Sean's last name?" he asked slowly as if scared of what my answer would be.
"Peirce." I answered almost scared enough to call Nikita back.
"We have to talk to her first." Paul answered Jared. Before turning back to me again. "I know we said a friend of mine send me some questions for you. But you might have just answered all of them. I can't say more than that, but I need to ask you one that Sam asked us to ask you."
I nodded to him slowly.
Jared shook for a second. "It is nothing bad, we promise. Actually, this might actually all be good news, I mean we might have more questions about your dead boyfriend but nothing too terrible. How long are you planning on sticking around the reservation?"
I shook my head for a second trying to clear it. "How long do I plan on sticking around the reservation? I don't know why that would be any of your concern."
Paul looked at me. "If you are going to be the one talking to Charlie you need to be in it for the long haul, she takes time to open up especially to girls. You have to have noticed that the only girls really completely in her life are Leah, Kim and Emily. She only tolerates Rachel because she loves me."
I laughed. "I have heard about a few things. If I am the one who gets to talk to Charlie, then yes, I will extend my leave from work. Though I can do most of the work from here."
Jared snapped his fingers. "I don't know how this would work, or if even we could convince Embry to go with the idea. But would you be willing to share the talking with Owen. I mean I see no reason why the both of you can't do it, though I would suggest doing it separately."
I nodded. "I would be okay with that." I looked around the living room for a second waiting to see if they had more questions. When neither one said anything, I decided to ask mine. "Okay so Leah the other night mentioned something about Charlie not eating junk food?"
Paul laughed. "That is right. The girl does not touch junk food. So, movie nights you need to have creative healthy food for her to eat. Last one she made a fruit plate with caramel dipping sauce, or was that time before, I can't remember."
I nodded. "So, what kind of foods should I try to make sure we have?"
Jared shrugged. "Honestly with her fun ones. Like peanut butter and celery, or apples with caramel dip to go with it, grapes and yogurt."
I wrote those down in the space I had left on the cards so at least that would give me some ideas to have in the house. "Okay, now the movie for the night?"
Paul smirked. "Something with action, not too scary, cute boys, good realistic story line cause she will pick those apart for hours if there is one thing that doesn't make sense."
Jared nodded. "Stay away from Harry Potter, her and Embry are watching that and spoiling all the fun for us regular people. She picked apart the first movie over the course of the past month now they have moved onto the second one."
I nodded as that really narrowed the list of movies I could pick from.
Paul laughed for a second. "Oh, and avoid Disney or anything Disney owns. She picks those apart looking for all the sex ideas in them. She did that for a project so she probably knows every single one of them by heart and she will yell it out during the movie."
Jared giggled. "Yep, those have been banned from movie nights at Sam's. You might be best asking her directly what movie she would like to watch but checking with someone first. Leah, would know if the movie would turn out badly if you watch it together."
I smiled. "It might be best then if I get the list of movies that are banned from Sam's for movie night if I could."
Jared gave me a funny look. "We can get you the list of ones banned because of Charlie. There are a few that Emily or Kim have banned and those wouldn't be a problem for you here unless Charlie has agreed with them about why they should be banned."
Paul nodded. "As I said stay away from anything scary as that is usually why Kim bans movies and Emily it is because she cries during them and Sam gets pissed that she is crying."
Just as I was about to ask them something else Owen came stomping in the door. "Embry kicked me out of the house. Told me to leave and never come back or talk to Charlie again." He yelled before realizing the two were sitting there on the couch.
Jared's eyes met mine. "We will finish this after. If Embry did that there has to be something wrong over there."
Paul had his phone up to his ear. "He isn't answering and neither is Charlie." He sounded worried about the situation.
Jared nodded. "I'm calling Jake." He put the phone to his ear but pulled it away second later. "It is going to voicemail."
They were both standing glaring at Owen before walking out of the house. He came over slumping on the couch. "I didn't do anything to her, only asked about the picture she was drawing. It was on the card that Nolan guy gave us."
I glared at him. "The one who was looking for Sean, is that who you went to meet?"
He shook his head. "No. I went to meet someone who dug up his grave and found nothing buried there where the head stone was. Not a coffin or a box of ashes. Nothing it is as if we didn't have a body to bury after all that happened."
I covered my mouth. His sisters had insisted on getting him a headstone. I had gone to visit it several times. "You had someone dig up the grave?"
He pulled a picture out of his pocket. It was folded in half. "When he left, I found that on the floor as if he had dropped it by accident. Look at the date on it, Sean was already dead when that picture was apparently taken."
I looked at the picture. "That date doesn't mean anything." He died he was dead. No way could he still be walking around. If he was why hadn't he come back to find me.
Owen leaned forward. "One of his seal missions was the mission that ended Charlie's and John's parent's lives." He smirked. "You would be becoming Nikita if you chose to talk to her. Can you really keep it hidden that your ex-boyfriend is the reason their parents never made it home safely?"
I looked at him through rage full eyes. "I wouldn't hide it from her. I would come open to all of them if it meant trying to do some good here." With that I walked towards Nikita's office and shut the door behind me leaving Owen in the living room alone.
This was his mess. If Sean had been involved in that mission, then he must have been on the side trying to save their parents. He was a good guy, and his body his ashes. No one could find them because they weren't there exactly. Michael had said he had taken care of it, and I trusted him. If Sean was still alive, he would have come looking for me by now. We loved each other.
Paul's POV
I glanced over at Embry and Charlie. She was staring at the table where the phone had been as if something was seriously wrong. Embry had his hand on her as if they were just comfortable being with each other. I grabbed my school bag after picking up a sandwich, the one that was closest to Charlie which normally would have gotten my hand slapped but nothing.
Jared turned to me before shrugging. "You two want to head to Charlie's place. I think Paul could really use her help with his social homework."
Charlie just nodded not even moving to get a sandwich for herself. Embry moved over to kiss her cheek pulling her from whatever daze she had been in.
"Everything is going to be okay. Carm is on top of this, I promise just I think we shocked her a bit earlier with how far you had come."
I nodded. "She understands the imprint bond."
Charlie laughed at that. "How could she not she was yours and put up with you." She smiled taking the sandwich I had taken from her side right out of my hands. "And that one is mine; Emily makes me one special."
I laughed. "So, you can help me with this. I mean you have probably already started discussing it in class anyway. We have to take a movie apart and we had to draw for them and I got Captain America Civil War which happens to be a banned movie here so we can't even watch it at Sam's"
Embry laughed knowing that they had watched it a few times and she talked the entire movie explaining why certain things worked and certain things didn't work. Arguing the title a bit and beyond that. "You sure you want to get into that today with her?"
I nodded. "It is being done in parts. I figure she can help me and then if she has time maybe she can help Jared and then you if you have something similar."
Jared glared at him. "How come you get it first? Shouldn't we start at the beginning of the war you know with the infinity stones."
Charlie laughed grabbing her bag putting the box gently inside it before swinging it over her shoulder. "I can help Embry then I will see about the two of you. Though it has been a while since I've seen civil war so we might have to watch it again and you just write down what I say as I see it."
I laughed. "How about I sit a recorder beside you and just tape it all?" I asked with a smile. "I don't have my truck today so we can walk to Charlie's house?"
Charlie nodded, before standing up and stretching. "What were we doing in gym class today?" She was looking at Jake.
He glanced up. "Rotating stations. One of the groups was going and that is what they came up with for a plan. It actually sounds rather boring if you ask me."
Quil laughed. "Nothing like our massive scavenger hunt we are doing for our project. Getting to go for a walk or run around the reservation completing different tasks." He sat there for a second. "Oh, Emily said that her and Sue and my mom could help with the thing, so we have enough bodies."
Embry nodded. "Good, I mean we already got a 98 on the written thing if it goes well enough with the actual one, we should do really well."
Jake laughed. "Of course it will go well. Michael's only concern was us having enough people to run it as there is only 4 of us and there are 7 stations. I assured him we had a few people we had asked to help we just needed the date. And we are going on Friday."
Both Charlie and Embry nodded before walking for the door.
I hung back with Jared for a few minutes, something was up with Jake that I knew he wanted to talk about something.
After the door was shut and we seen they were walking down the road Jake opened up. "Okay so apparently Charlie had a nightmare on Saturday night. Though Sam heard it he hasn't told Embry that he heard it and now we have to try and find out what was going on in the nightmare. Without telling Charlie that Sam heard her having a nightmare." He shook his head. "Carm thought it would be okay to ask Embry that he had mentioned it during patrol, but he hasn't patrolled this week yet."
I laughed. "We can ask Charlie about it? Do we have any context of it?"
Quil nodded. "Lord of the Rings. Apparently, the Shire area but they need something to narrow it down as to what she seen."
Jared nodded walking over the bookcase that held the DVDs. He grabbed the first one off of the shelf and walked back. "We can watch the fellowship tonight with them."
I shook my head. "No, she is not going to ruin that movie for me. Rachel loves it and forces us to watch it every few weeks. Something about Aragon being hot, if we let Charlie watch it then it will be ruined."
"Fine. I'll put it back when we get back here tonight. I could always suggest it to Sam as it is not on the denied list for movie nights." He laughed.
I growled at him just as my phone went off with a text. I pulled it out glancing at it. 'I need you to be very nice to Alex. She might be the one we have been looking for so Sam needs her to stay on the reservation until we can confirm.'
I groaned hanging my head showing the text to Jared. "What so we can't be complete jerks to her the way she was to Charlie?" he asked.
I shook my head. "I mean I can try to tell her that, but you know the way she is. She wouldn't be asking me to do this if it wasn't important."
Three more texts came in quickly one after the next as if she had them ready to send but they all just went through at the same second.
'Find out if she knew a Sean Pierce? What their connection was?'
'Oh, you can't explain anything about the book, vampires obviously your existence to her at all. Well, I mean Sam controls your existence, but I would assume it is a no go.'
'Get back to me as soon as you can don't worry about the time thing I will deal with it. Probably turn my phone off tonight.'
'One last thing, keep Charlie calm. From what Leo and Cole have said the fire is the first of many she will be getting and well she is going to be scarier than anything you've ever seen.'
'I do miss you. But if this goes right, I should be able to have more time for a visit after we get this curse broken.'
I read over the messages. Before sending her one back that I knew would be on the top of Embry's mind as soon as he stopped to think. 'Is she going to be able to survive this? Whatever this curse ends it won't end her life, right?'
Jared gave me a funny look as we walked for the door. "You asked her that question, didn't you? The one that has been floating in your head since she started talking to the other cat in the room."
I nodded. "I can't begin to think about what my life would be if she wasn't around. We don't know anything about the other two cats that live with her in Volterra."
Long minutes passes as we walked down the road with no reply from Carm. I knew if we went into the house and my focus was on the phone that Charlie would definitely ask what was going on with it. When I had asked for help, and she was willing to help me that my focus needed to be on the work.
"She will get back to you. But you know her, she gets distracted being a bunny. Who knows how many of them are back in Volterra, I mean doesn't she have a guy that she liked there?"
I nodded. "Ya his name is Chaos. He seemed really nice, but he wanted to stop working and just take more of a back seat to the active stuff. Last time we chatted he asked if I knew of a way to get her to finally want to slow down."
He shrugged. "So, you might actually go and visit her more often?"
I nodded. "Rachel already knows about vampires anyway. Carm said that as soon as this curse is over and the ones who are being held at the palace because of it are free she is going to step back and do more running things. She even contacted a contractor about building a small house just off the palace but still on the grounds. You know she has one in the village with the werewolves there. Her and the head one are really close."
He nodded as we walked up to the door knocking once and then opening it. "So, we have to leave at 3 to go next door and chat with Alex."
Embry laughed. "Have fun suffering through that."
I groaned. "Carm texted that I have to be nice to her."
Charlie patted my head. "You could just say no to her you know that right?"
Embry and Jared laughed. "She is the most powerful vampire on the face of the planet. She can't die by means of anything. And saying no to her well Paul can't exactly get that word out when it comes to being said to Carm."
She blushed and turned away. "So, we should do your stuff first. But as I said it has been quite a while since I have watched Civil war. Though from what I can remember I would start that looking that that thing they were asked to sign. Dive into each character's ideals and as to why they did or didn't sign it at the beginning. Then you have that whole end thing and the brain control angle."
I scribbled all the things she had said. Noting what I needed to focus on for this. She knew the teacher so she knew what to put down that would make it all work out.
We worked for a while until Ryan came home and seen all of us working at the table. He smiled and offered some more insight into different angles we were trying to hit. Charlie had turned to history which she was working on with Embry after finishing their computer assignment, which she left the table and put it on Birkoff's home desk.
At 2:58 Charlie nudged me and pointed to the clock before turning to Ryan who was working at the counter in the kitchen. "Can you text next door and tell them Paul and Jared are just packing up their schoolwork and will be over in a few minutes?"
He nodded pulling out his phone sending the text. "I sent it to both Alex and Nikita."
When we got over there, we went through the questions which we had to ask. Alex volunteered the first information about Sean. Before answering the question as to his name. I had pulled out my phone to send the message to Carm about it and who they were to each other when Owen came through the door.
He seemed mad about Embry kicking him out and ordering him to never talk to Charlie again. I started a group call with the three of us but no answer. When Jared called Jake and only got his voicemail, he was worried. We had promised Alex we would continue this later, but we really needed to go check on those two because of the situation.
She had given us a small nod probably feeling upset we had been disturbed but I couldn't feel Charlie trying to pull us there. If anything, there seemed to be a forcefield of sorts keeping us away from the house.
"Is she trying to stop us?" Jared asked.
I shrugged. "She is probably scared or pissed. By what Embry just did I would assume probably upset more than anything. Owen would have had to do something really bad to cause this reaction."
I pushed through walking in the door looking at Ryan.
"Where did Charlie and Embry go?" Jared asked.
Ryan turned to the stairs pointing at them. He was in the middle of something on his laptop, but a scan of the kitchen table told me what it had been. Charlie had been drawing her sketch book was open on the table. A catlike symbol drawn on the page as the shading was just starting. Telling me she was trying to remember looking at that box years ago. I shut the book bringing it upstairs with me knocking on the door quietly listening.
"Come in."
We walked in the door. Charlie was snuggling a stuffie on her bed that looked like Embry. "Maybe we need to get you a kitten that purrs too." I joked with her.
Garrett's POV
Cole came jumping around the garden. The guy was full of energy constantly, I often felt slightly sorry for his two teammates then I remembered that Chaos was the reason Leo was in this state. Though Cole often took my sour mood claiming that I needed to be happy to still be alive and that we had Carm determined to locate and end the curse.
"We are going out, to the cave. Sean needs us to pick up a few things and I thought it would be a nice bonding experience for us."
I laughed for a second. "Which of the 15 did you bribe into taking us?" I dreaded the idea that Xavier had volunteered, though usually he didn't go on hunting trips.
Leo just shook his head. "I'm too sleepy. You two go." He stripped and shifted into his cat hopping up into a tree for the early morning nap.
I hung my head knowing that if I turned this option down it would be a month at least before I got to go again. "Are we starting off as humans?"
Cole nodded glancing up at the tree where Leo had taken off to. "I asked Havok if he wanted to go. He said it was fine Chaos is in a mood, and no one really wants to be on the wrong side of him."
I shrugged. "Chaos is always in a mood. It is going to be like that until the end of time. I just wish he would direct his anger towards someone who deserves it."
Cole looked at me as we started walking towards the wing. "What makes you say that?"
"You seriously haven't noticed how Xavier has been going after Sean?" I was pretty sure when I had run into Benjamin, he had explained that Cole had invited him to go watch a movie with him and Sean almost 6 hours ago.
Cole shrugged. "There is more going on there than you actually know."
I stopped him from walking further. "From what I can see ever since that day we had our chat about a week later when I got back from saying farewell to my pack, he has been like this. Constantly being rude to me. Hating anyone who is nice to me, except Carm and that is probably because she would kill him if he ever tried."
Cole shook his head. "All I can tell you is that there is more to this than you actually know. I only found out by accident from Leo. He let it slip when he left the legend to me, he begged me to leave Chaos and Havok to join up with Carm's team. You really shouldn't be so hard on him."
I raged as we got to the door of the wing. "I should be so hard on him. It is his fault I am like this. It was his teeth that sunk into my skin to turn me into this. He trapped me here in this palace until the curse is ended then who knows. After that we could all be slaughtered."
Cole waved someone away from the door. "That won't happen, the day we were each turned a vampire spoke for us. Said we would be useful beyond the curse and that is why the three of us were saved. I chose to live, yes Havok's teeth changed me into this. I don't hold any grudges against him for his actions because it was my choice."
I growled at him. The wolf all to close to the surface. "That is just it, you had a choice. I was free and clear of the palace when Xavier found me. He dragged me to Chaos and Malachi who took me to Aro who was going to kill me. But before they could do that Xavier decided to bite me. Turn me into this and chain me to the palace."
Cole just shook his head. "You need to talk to Xavier. You think you got the worst deal out of this but from where I am sitting, and I know the whole story. You got it better than you think. Besides being locked to the palace except for hunting trips you don't hold any other punishments for your actions of running."
I stopped. What he had just said calmed the wolf completely. I had watched other vampires save ones that were going to be killed. Then I stopped to think. Every time the legend came home Xavier never left the palace, like ever.
I thought back Leo had always said his would be the only door that was closed completely and in the mornings, he was always the first one up. He would walk past the garden though I never asked where he was going. The only times I didn't was when Carm had gone.
Havok came out of the wing dressed in his cloak. "You two ready to go now?"
Cole looked at me questioning. I nodded. "Ya, all good here."
Havok glanced between the two of us but decided to let the matter be. "Okay. So, Cole you wanted to go to the cave."
He nodded. "Sean mentioned wanting a few things. So, I thought it would be nice to sniff around in the woods a bit and pick them up. Everything seems pretty quiet around here right now."
Havok nodded. "Almost too quiet. You talk to Carm about this idea?"
Cole shook his head. "Chaos said to leave her. Something about the phone call really has her freaked. I didn't push the matter with him because he was sort of in a mood."
Havok nodded. "Rylin was looking for him. Something about Malachi and Xavier after he left."
Cole growled. "I told him I would handle that. Damn vampires won't ever listen. I was going to talk to Chaos and Carm about what happened. Xavier did back down when I asked him to, only slightly yelling that Sean defended Garrett."
I huffed. "That is what I was talking about, someone defends me. Are friends with me. Anything of that sort and he takes offence to it."
Cole looked at me, his eyes pleading for me to stop. "He has his reasons. I'm sure Carm would see it as a great favour if you would stop trying to provoke him in front of others."
Havok expanded the space between us placing himself in the center. "I think you two need to take this outside and wait until we get to the forest." His voice and power hit the walls and echoed through the palace.
"I think that probably just woke Carm from her sleep." Cole giggled.
Havok shook his head. "If it did, she will understand I was trying to keep the two of you coming to blows in the hallway. Now let's get outside and into the forest then you two can shift and go at each other with claws and fur."
As we walked through town it was quiet. Still in the very early hours of the morning that the sun was barely just peaking over the horizon. Sean would be awake soon, but he was safe in the wing. It didn't take long for us to get to the edge of the forest and begin our trek to the cave.
Minutes passes before a strange power soared over both of our skins and had us shifting into our animals, racing back for the palace. Cole was fast as he was running in his animal form constantly providing it with daily workouts. I had to push to keep up, but Havok was running as fast as he possibly could and barely keeping up with us. I could feel his power trying to close the gap but the surge of energy pulling us to the palace was too strong.
Racing into the palace to the garden where we found Leo and Sean and Angelina. Though the last was held up by vines against the glass. My eyes met Sean's before turning to Chaos who had seen the power and wanted it more than anything. We were both ordered to go put on some clothes and then return after Havok told Chaos and Carm we should both be grounded. Though they both shook their heads at this request. But through all this something was confirmed; Xavier was supposed to go see Caius this morning for some reason and he was late.
Cole had followed me to my room before shifting back into human grabbing a pair of sweats and walking out pulling a shirt over his head as he ran towards the garden. Everything smelt like wolf but at the moment both of us were seeing red. Someone we had trusted had endangered Sean's life.
As we walked to go get Ella, Cole met eyes with Havok. "I'm going with Alec to bring her to the dungeon and make sure she has nothing." There were more there than just his words, but he shook his head when we landed at her room. Without even knocking on the door, he slammed it open, and I knew she was looking into the eyes of his cat.
"I thought it would be Carm coming for me?" She asked him innocently. "After all she would kill me for losing her chance."
Cole's words were cold. "You won't die today." He tossed me a jar of ashes that was sitting on the table without even looking. "In fact, your plan failed, you mistakenly didn't check to make sure we all went hunting. You locked Leo in the garden too." When he grabbed her his eyes met mine. "Tell Chaos we grabbed that from the room. He will be wanting it." With that he dragged her away towards the dungeons.
I personally didn't know if he was going to let Alec know he was supposed to go with them. "Who are we getting for Carm to feed off of?"
Havok pointed to the door. "One of the boys has been asking to leave one way or another. He came when his twin died in a car accident and thought he could gain some knowledge from this experience here. Last visit he asked for his name to be put in for Carm to feed off of after speaking with Chaos and discovering that peace some do with him."
I knocked on the door. A young man in his 30s came and opened it. When he seen Havok there he nodded. "It is time then?"
Havok nodded. "Only if you are ready."
He nodded. "You said there was a chance I could live past this. That her bite wouldn't actually kill me if one of the wereanimals was there."
Havok nodded again. "Garrett or Cole will be present for it. Aaron and Jasson are also on their way in case that is the method you want to take."
The guy nodded handing a letter to Havok. "For Carm if I don't actually survive. Jasson promised he would do his best."
When we returned to the garden Jasson was standing there so was Cole. But before long Leo said that Xavier who had gone back to the wing needed Chaos and me.
On the way to the wing Chaos's mood shifted from bad to worse. I could feel him getting edgy about whatever was happening. When Xavier explained about the tunnel that we were going to use to actually break into the garden I was shocked. Though Chaos didn't bat an eye to it. He just kept his head through the walk outside of the palace, but it seemed odd as if he was holding his tongue the entire way like he wanted to say something. Elijah just kept mentioning tension city over and over again.
Though I had to admit the plan was solid. Me finding the entrance. Elijah breaking us into the tunnel and us making it into the garden. Xavier then pointed to the pane of glass beside the door. "That one is the weakest. If Noddy can freeze it, then we time it right between Elijah and Carm vibrations and the two cats and wolf running at it the glass will break." He looked down at the ground. "It was a failsafe put in place."
Carm nodded. "Alec has contact and the explanation has been given that until this run is over your life is your own."
His eyes darted over to me for a second and then to her. His hand glowed and I knew he was using his power to paint a picture for her.
She nodded again and smiled. "I will ensure it was done."
He relaxed and turned to Sean. "Would you mind if I help teach you to fight?"
Sean looked at him but then to Leo who nodded. "Leo says you are one of the best."
Chaos nodded. "You have many battles ahead of you. Xavier and I should be the ones teaching you how to fight. But if Leo wants to, he can show you things for the cat which will help. When this is all over, tonight we need to talk. Wereanimals, I ask that you join us in the meeting hall in the wing." He held up Carm's phone, "Paul got back to you. It is a yes."
Carm breathed a sigh of relieve before Noddy nodded. "It is frozen solid, good luck."
Cole smirked as I glared at him. "Those are my favourite pair and my favourite shirt. Strip before you shift, please." Before I shifted into my wolf going for the rocks as Leo did the same.
Charlie's POV
I starred at the table trying to make my brain process everything that we had just learned. This cat that was inside was something I would become. Well at least it was pretty cute, it was almost all black with grey dots on its back and tail. Though the two colours were so much alike they were really hard to tell apart.
Finally, I felt Embry moving beside me placing a small kiss on my cheek pulling my attention back to reality. That is when Jared and Paul both declared they needed help with their current projects in their social class. I had laughed at them a bit as Embry and I headed out with sandwiches in hand towards my house.
The walk was short though I knew very early on the other two weren't following us. Probably something to do with Jake disappearing again. Well, he was called outside by Sam and Quil went with him, so it probably wasn't a bathroom thing.
When the other two got to the house we argued slightly about the order of how things were going to happen. I still couldn't figure out what movie Jared had. Though the mention of infinity stones it could be several of them. As only Civil War and Black Panther and Spider Man do not cover those. Almost any other marvel movie would be a part of the infinity stone hunt.
After history was done for the week except for a few things left at the end of the book I decided to give my brain a rest. I mean after all Paul and Jared were over questioning Alex to hopefully get some answers about why she spied on me last weekend.
So, I pulled out my sketch book and started to try and remember the cat I had seen drawn on the front of the box. Embry was sitting beside me just working on his social work from today and answering the random text messages about it from Quil. I as flipping between about 4 pictures as my brain was slowly putting it all together. I had blocked out a lot of what I had found out back then and the box itself had annoyed me not being able to open it.
"How are we going to get this to Carm?"
Embry just shook his head. "We can have Paul send it to her when you are done and ready to have her look at it. Though I think it will be Leo having a look."
"Do you know anything about him, this Leo? I mean other than he is a cat that lives with Carm." I asked looking hopeful.
He shrugged. "Nothing other than what she said. I am sure the two of them are probably close to each other. I mean she trusted him and that is something Carm doesn't do so easily."
I nodded going back to drawing.
Ryan came over a few minutes later with a smile. "Birkoff is picking up burgers for dinner tonight. I think Owen is close to the diner, so he was probably going to be picking them up on his way through town. Is thee anything anyone won't eat?"
"No onions or tomatoes. Everything else is good." Embry told him. "The other two are about the same way." He sat quietly for a second while I went back to working on my pictures. "How did you like the video yesterday?"
Ryan nodded. "It brightened my day. I was glad to see that she really does eat her breakfast even if it is after first period."
Embry smiled, before nudging me. "It isn't always that late. A few times I have actually left first period to go out of the room and eat I have been so hungry. Though between the two periods it is the most convenient time for me to actually eat."
"What are you both working on there?" He asked staying by the computer as he was working on stuff himself.
"Just drawing something for a friend, though the harder part is trying to remember it because it was close to 3 years ago when I saw it last." I told him.
Embry shrugged. "Just some social studies stuff. Really nothing as interesting as what the other two actually get to do right now. Though with them it kind of sucks that we can't watch their movies over at Sam's because they are on the banned list."
"Banned list?" Ryan looked up at Embry with a weird smile.
I giggled and nodded. "Movies that have been banned from movie night over there for one reason or another. Most of those ones are because of a psychology project last year that I did literally cause most of the Disney owned stuff to be banned."
Ryan nodded. "Should we ban them from being watched over here too then?"
I shook my head while Embry nodded.
"It really doesn't get that bad." I declared as Embry just smirked.
"No. It is only having to listen to you explain the likelihood of something actually occurring. Which you surprisingly aren't doing with the harry potter movies we are watching."
I just shook my head and laughed at him. "That is because there is no chance in anything that any part of any of those movies could actually be true. Well other than that actually happens on earth away from the wizards."
Embry shook his head. "So, explain why you argue to no end the idea behind Marvel?"
I glanced back at my pictures on the pages. "Well certain parts of those could actually happen. The entire idea of super soldiers was taken from the second world war. So, there is a partial theory that it could really be happening. But then part of the movie, I mean anything surround Thor is completely out in left field and unrealistic."
Ryan nodded. "She does have a point there." He turned to his work bag before tossing me a few pieces of paper that were folded. "I got these from a friend in Langley. They are brain teasers that no one there has been able to come up with a solution for. I know in some of your classes you tend to get a bit bored, so I figured that maybe if that was needed."
I grabbed the pages and glanced at them. Each page had a different one on it. "Do we get anything if we are able to solve them?"
Ryan laughed. "No just the joy of knowing you solved something that the greatest mines of our nation had trouble with and deemed to be impossible."
I shook my head going over the first problem, maybe this would help me actually remember the picture on the front of the box. I hadn't looked at the journal I didn't want that getting in the way of me actually remembering what I seen.
Birkoff walked in the door coming over ruffling my hair a bit and smiling at Embry. "Working on this stuff any chance there is something sitting on my desk?"
I nodded and smiled at him. "It has been sitting there since before Ryan got home from work. Embry and I finished. Though I know Ryan went in there to read it over for us and he said he saw 2 little spelling mistakes but he circled them so we can fix them after."
Ryan nodded. "The technical stuff I didn't look at only the actual spelling and flow of sentences for the project. But you will be happy to know they haven't appeared to be working on their next assignment just yet."
Embry looked at me. "Next assignment. You have our next one already?" He sounded hopeful.
I nodded, then shook my head. "Yes. Birkoff told me about the next assignment. But he said we couldn't start on it until we had this one done and had gotten at least a 95% on it so I figured there was no point in telling you about it."
Ryan just smiled. "If the only problem is the two spelling mistakes, we can get those fixed and you can be working on the next one tomorrow in class. Though it is going to take some more planning as I do have the assignment sheet already done for you as soon as I get that 95 though you are probably going to be going for a 98 again, aren't you?"
I nodded. "If it is only the two spelling mistakes then it should be at least a 95 so we can fix those and hand it into you before starting to work on the next one. So, if you could print that off for us if we do have a 95 on it, please."
Birkoff nodded. "I will go take a look at it right now. Owen should be here in about 10 minutes or so with the food."
Embry looked over at me before turning to Birkoff. "He does know that Jared and Paul are staying for dinner tonight, right?"
Birkoff nodded. "Why is that exactly?"
I giggled pointing to Embry, shaking my head and turning my focus back to the pictures.
"Kim has a doctor's appointment. Jared tends to get very antsy when she has to go for those so normally, he is working. But Michael said that tonight would work the best for the chat, so we all had to make a sacrifice for it to happen. And ours just happens to be enduring them during dinner until she is done with her appointment and back on reservation grounds. At that point she usually does text Jared."
Birkoff left shaking his head about this going to his office to look at the assignment. Owen arrived here carrying in a large bag of food and another one that contained a box which was probably the fries to go with the burgers.
"Did you get …" I started before Ryan pointed to the fridge, shaking his head.
I got up to get the mayo for me to dip my fries into when Owen went over and looked at the sketches on the pages out of my book.
"Where did you see that?" He pointed at the book and the cat picture I was working on.
I shrugged hoping he would get the point that I didn't want to talk about it.
Ryan shook his head. "Leave it alone Owen she is just drawing."
Owen shook his head. "Just drawing. She is drawing that picture that I sent you. The one off the card from Nolan."
My eyes seen red as I looked up at him. "You have seen that picture from someone." I was shaking almost as bad as that night.
I fell to my knees unable to move or look at anything. Warm arms went around as I felt the calm of Embry's wolf there.
"Get out … whatever your connection is that I don't care … you aren't to talk or see her again … you realize there is so much going on because of that symbol? And now we find out you are connected to it somehow? Who was this, Nolan? Do you know him?" the questions came as rapid fire that I never did hear an answer to any of them.
I felt myself being lifted and carried up the stairs. Short while later the smell of food entered the room around me but I couldn't concentrate on anything else.
Embry's POV
Carm had been able to give us a to do list. Now I actually felt a little bit better. Though Charlie being forced to relive a part of her life that she just barely would even speak about wasn't going to be the easiest thing. I wish there was an easier way, I almost wanted to ask her if there was a way that she didn't have to remember that.
When our chat was done, and Sam took the phone outside I did keep one ear to it listening as hard as I could especially after he called the other two outside. I could hear Carm telling them about the nightmare that Charlie had had the other night. I knew Sam would have heard it; I wasn't an idiot. He was home when it happened, and she was yelling so loud I was actually surprised it hadn't woken Emily from her sleep though I was grateful that it hadn't.
Though Charlie was staring at the table where the phone had been, and Paul was trying to get a response out of her. He had purposely grabbed the sandwich that was sitting right in front of her which usually would be one that she would have taken.
I leaned over kissing her cheek hoping to bring her back to us. After a bit of chatting, we left the house going for her place eating along the way. I laughed for a few seconds as I pulled out my phone. "Maybe I should film you eating lunch too or does everyone finally believe that you do eat?"
She just shook her head playfully pushing me. "They understand that I eat enough during the day. I did want to say thanks for your help though. Apparently, Ryan was laughing about the video you sent him of me eating."
I nodded. "Though I had stopped it before Jake put the icing on your nose."
She giggled remembering how Jake had been eating a cupcake at the same time and placed a dollop of icing on her nose to be funny. She had used her finger to get it off of her nose before we had walked into functions yesterday.
"I'm glad you did. I looked really silly with that on my nose."
I laughed as she unlocked the door and headed straight for the kitchen. Despite the fact we had just eaten on the walk over she was still hungry. "Please tell me you have some cookies or something like that for me to eat."
She opened the fridge grabbing out grapes for herself. "We have grapes, oh look more grapes. Oh, some apple slices with caramel sauce. More grapes." She smiled. "But no cookies sorry. And they weren't on the list, so Birkoff didn't buy any."
I groaned digging in my bag for the brownie that I had taken from my house. "You know I'm seriously thinking that you aren't actually normal."
She scoffed at me. "Have I ever been normal. Like really, all this happening to me is nothing new. From what we heard today from Jake and Sam and Carm this has been happening since I was born actually before I was born." She shook her head pulling out her schoolbooks. "Honestly, we might finally be getting some answers to why all of this is happening. Why all of it has happened. They are finally making me feel like I can survive this."
I thought about what she was saying. She never has been normal by the books, but that is what drew me to her. She was always the odd one out of the bunch which is how she fit in with the three of us. "You are right. I am glad to finally be getting some answers. But we need to chat before the other two get here."
I took a breath looking at what she had pulled out for us to work on. "The other night when you spent the night at Sam's you had a nightmare."
She nodded slowly. "Okay. I don't remember it."
"Well, that is a bummer. Carm has questions about it and if you can't remember it then it is pointless though it is kind of funny."
She shrugged grabbing the laptop from the side table and opening it starting to work on our computer assignment. "What is funny?"
I laughed. "Sam was freaking out when he was talking to Carm. That is why he called Jake and Quil outside. I knew that he knew about the nightmare. You were yelling so loud I'm surprised you hadn't woken Emily. He doesn't know how to ask me about it. Carm suggested bringing it up after I patrol with him saying that I had thought about it."
She nodded slowly. "I can try and push my memory if you want. But it is going to be a few days before I can try again after I do the cat picture for Leo."
I nodded. "No worries. It is just going to be funny getting to watch Sam try and bring this up to me. I can give you until then at least."
We finished that before she sent it to the printer up in her room claiming that she would go grab it at one point when she got hungry again. Paul and Jared arrive there and after a bit of arguing about Paul's project she did give him some general pointers as to what to look for on the movie. Jared never even mentioned his movie though only claiming that his should have gone before Paul's because of some random fact about infinity stones.
After Paul and Jared left Charlie picked up her sketch stuff and started drawing. I did wonder why she didn't do it around the two, but it was something that was always private to her. I didn't even push to see the pictures unless she voluntarily showed them to me. I could see she was going back and forth between pages and pictures as different pieces of her memory started to come back and fill in the blanks. Eventually the 4 pictures would join into one completing the one that was on the box which she had seen.
I continued to work on my stuff every so often asking Charlie for a hand with something until Ryan brought up the fact, he had something for Charlie to work on if she ever got bored in school. I had shaken my head about it that if the greatest minds were unable to do this how could she do it.
Just as school was about 20 min done Ryan questioned about burgers for dinner. I explained the two things that we all hated. Though Charlie would eat both of them I figured it would just be the easiest for us all to have the same.
Birkoff arrived home soon after that telling me that Charlie has known what our next assignment is in his class already and we hadn't started it. Though after finding out that there had been a rule placed that we couldn't start it until we had gotten at least 95% on this one I nodded to her.
When Owen landed there, he noticed her drawings. But he started commenting about how he recognized the picture she was doing. I knew Ryan had seen it before because he was the one who had given it to Sam to look into. But now we find out that Owen has seen it before, not only that but knows someone connected to it.
Nolan. I had to remember that name. Carm might know it from somewhere. Hopefully they have been successful in capturing some vampires alive and we can ask her about it.
Charlie was kneeling holding her head as if she was reliving something. I had seen this before a few times with her. Usually, it would pull everyone to us, but no one was coming. Ryan was glaring at Owen from the kitchen counter.
Owen, I had yelled at to get out of the house and never speak to or see Charlie again. I was even more protective of her now.
Was there anyone I could call. My phone rang minutes after Owen had left and I didn't even think to look at it. Very gently I picked Charlie up carrying her up the stairs to her room. She just cuddled into me the entire way.
After a few minutes Birkoff came up with a tray of food for us. "For whenever she actually gets hungry enough to eat. Did you want me to pick up her stuff on the table?"
I shook my head. "Paul and Jared should be by soon. I doubt it will last very long after Owen goes over there upset about me kicking him out of here."
Birkoff nodded. "Ryan will send them up here when they get here. I have some stuff to take care of in my office. But if either of you need me."
I nodded to him. A minute later he came back with a pair of sweats that I'm sure were probably his comfy clothes for the weekend. He just placed them on the bed with a small handwritten sticky note on them.
'In case you spend the night. Just toss them into our hamper in the morning at the other end of the hall.'
I smiled at it glancing over at the food, it did smell good, but Charlie needed me beside her right now. I know our trust had been violated. We had both trusted Owen; he seemed like a good guy but maybe that was the plan. I was going to have to talk to Birkoff or Ryan about who he was exactly and what the connection was to this Nolan and to them.
I could hear footsteps on the stairs and much too loud for either of the two humans before a knock on the door came quietly. I glanced up realizing the Birkoff must have shut the door on his way out of the room.
"Come in." I said quietly to whoever was there.
Paul came in to see Charlie cuddling the wolf that I had gotten her. She was petting it and talking quietly to it ever since I had handed it to her up here.
Paul commented about having to get Charlie a cat that purred after we had found out about her animal jokingly. I just kissed her forehead whispering to her that I needed a word with Paul and Jared for a minute and to just cuddle the wolf, I would be back. I wasn't even leaving her room.
I took them over to the door. "Owen knows about symbol somehow. Well, someone named Nolan gave it to him. No clue who that is."
Paul raged. Charlie was like his little sister; he had been so happy to find out about me imprinting on her that he could finally have her fully around again. "How does he know this, Nolan? Do you want me to ask Carm about that name. I can call her in the morning, she probably has her phone turned off by now."
I nodded to him. "If you could. There is dinner from the Forks diner downstairs for you two. Kim should be home from the doctor's by now."
Jared nodded touching my shoulder. "You going to be alright? If you need us, we can stay."
I shook my head glancing over at Charlie. "I just want some time alone with her."
They both nodded giving me a knowing look before Paul looked down at his phone. "We got the answers for you. After everything I don't know who the best option will be. I also asked Carm a question that I need the answer to but don't know if I really want to find out. I will let you know when she gets back to me. I will ask her about this Nolan guy too."
Leo's POV
Relief finally started to fill me. The end of the tension between everyone. Chaos was constantly in a bad mood because he wanted to be home more but wouldn't slow down until Carm did. Carm had made a promise to me that she would see the end of this curse. Xavier had always been like this and when I had found out the reason why it hurt. Garrett was constantly being picked on by Xavier because of the mixed feelings that were there.
The day Xavier had come clean to me about everything I almost exploded. Garrett was constantly angry about being turned but knowing that Xavier was still paying the price hurt. He had declared that he loved him too much to let him see what saving him had costed and was still costing him. I thought back to my days within the legend. His door was always closed. Carm was constantly around him after his disappearing acts in the morning. That had me stopping to really think, was he paying for everyone that was saved.
Caius could not seek revenge on Carm or Chaos for me. Neither one would have stood for it and Carm would have seen to it that Chaos never did. Was Havok paying for Cole? Though what happened to Xavier would do very little to Havok his abilities would make it void.
Charlie seemed calm but I didn't know how much help any of us were really going to be for her. I had been the closest to ending the curse and I knew that Carm would be back with more questions. I honestly thought the journal and box would contain the most answers. But the box being taken had me concerned. There was a chance that the wolf blood could open it if it was fun the same line, but it had never been tried. I would have to make contact with my old Pard to take a look at things.
I lay up on the branch in the tree that gave me a view of the door but anyone at the door would not be able to see me. An hour passed and the door swung open as Sean entered the garden. I didn't see anyone else which meant he was alone. I was grateful he was still in the palace, but my gift was useless in my cat form.
I settled my head back on my paws as he sat in the comfy hallowed out stump that I had made into a seat for us. He seemed rather comfy in it until the door opened again. There was no knock on it which meant whoever had opened it had broken the rules. A blue glow surrounded the doors as she spoke to Sean explaining that they were going to talk for a bit and then he was going to have to die.
Rage filled every ounce of my blood as I hopped from the branch I was on landing on my paws with a soft sound. A growl would have pulled enough people to me maybe to do something but once I had her staff away from her and in a location; she could not get I knew I was fine to stay human. So, I gathered some clothes and got dressed.
A cloaked figure was walking by the garden after Sean had already tried. I knew Sean didn't like him but maybe Xavier was our hope to show Sean how to use his abilities. My eyes counted as I remembered the one pane of glass that would shatter the soundproofing. One bang of my fist on the glass and he turned to me. When Sean seen who it was, he said no, and Xavier already on thin ice he turned. I saw all hope of ever getting out of this alive gone until I said the words that I knew would make him do this no matter how much Sean protested the idea.
I would explain it to Sean later that instincts are what drive our powers at first. Mine had been making a mistake and wanting to try it again different ways until I managed to get it right. I mean it had been someone getting really badly hurt so it was instinct that had taken over. That and Carm forcing me until it worked. I laughed at the memory silently as I explained how it was going to work to Sean.
Once that had worked and Angelina was completely out of our way, I turned my attention to the fact that we were currently locked in a garden with no visible exits. And quite possibly no one knowing that Sean had disappeared until someone went looking for him and that someone would probably have to be Carm or Samuel if he could. Demetri probably could too but he usually vacated the palace when the full legend was around.
The kitten. Between my connections and the ones Sean had already made we should be able to get everyone we needed here. It took a lot of focus before I could get the kitten to stop laying and starting to try and gather everyone. A bit of my own power pulled Garrett and Cole to us along with Havok who had gone with them.
After everyone was gathered Chaos did show is true colours as the leader of the group. He had always hated pulling this role in Volterra, but it was necessary right now.
Sean's eyes had met mine when Carm said she would allow Sean to decide Angelina's fate. I honestly didn't know what to tell him. No one would defy Carm and make it end quickly that was for sure and the fact that Carm hadn't specifically said it had to be a member of the legend meant that someone outside that could do it.
My mind ran through the names and possibilities as the charge up of Carm's power happened. Alec's ability would not make it go any harder which would be the best. Though he could drink her slowly which would cause agony. The worst ones would be Carm or Chaos or even any of us three as the death would be extremely slow.
"What are you thinking about?" Sean asked as he probably seen my eyes moving behind my lids.
I shrugged. "Really, I'm thinking about possibilities for killing Angelina, because I know you are going to want to know."
He nodded. "Would she have killed me slowly?" he asked eyes meeting mine.
I shook my head. "Last time we found the vampire bleeding out. Carm almost killed herself trying to save them. There was nothing we could have done. Best bet she would have done that to you. Held you to the ground and drained you to almost death and then walked out of the garden waiting for someone to find you. She may have even sounded the alarm that you were dead."
He gulped glancing around as my phone started going off. Xavier was texting me though nothing had been working here. He was starting to take my brain off of the issue right now and lead it towards maybe finding a solution. He also volunteered to help me teach Sean how to fight. Truth be told Chaos and him would be the best two to do the teaching. Chaos because of the close hand to hand combat of his gift and Xavier because he fought dirty.
When they had come through a rock that had always been there, I shook slightly. Xavier explained that there was a safety put in and how it was going to work. Shifting into my cat I connected with Cole his brain was still jumbled.
"I took her to the closest one. So, everyone walking by will be able to see her. They will know what she has done. Then I bit her. The next full moon she will be one of us. I found out Angelina had promised to make her a vampire if she did this. Bring her sister back from the ashes and turn them both into vampires."
"What about Alec?"
"I didn't grab him. You know he wouldn't be what he needed to be. Chaos can take it up with me, but I did what needed to be done. Angelina and her partner will get worse." His eyes glowed with the fire power he still could call upon. His tail sparked as it twitched in the air.
"Carm told Sean he could pick who kills her."
"Too bad. They aren't the ones suffering because of all this. She is mine so is Nico."
Carm's eyes met mine as if she had heard the entire conversation. If she did, she wasn't making a move to stop Cole other than a nudge that it had to wait. They needed information from Angelina and until they got it no one was dying.
When the glass was broken Chaos went up pulling off Angelina's shoe making the tiny burr appear in his hand as he attached it to the top of her foot causing her to wince.
My eyes flickered to Sean's, he wasn't understanding what had just happened, but I did. Our thoughts joined for only a moment as the one who changed me communicated one message. "He has 5 days to decide, at that point the poison will be too deep, and no one can kill her."
I nodded as his eyes flickered over to Sean. Before she was ripped from the wall.
"Find Nico." Cole went to take off before a whistle held him back. "No, you need to stay with Sean, he is going to need you."
Carm nodded coming over to Sean her face changed as she took his hands squeezing them just past the point he winced. "Never run off like that again. You could have been hurt or killed. You are very luck Xavier was out of the wing to …" she stopped glancing around seeing Garrett still standing there and Xavier pleading eyes. "… to go for a walk. He and Leo saved you from a fate that I cant bring you back from even if I tried. A fate that would have really ended your life. Is that what you wanted?"
Sean shook his head unable to talk.
Xavier placed his arm over Carm's and Sean's hands. "He made a mistake, yes one that could have costed us all dearly. But only could, it didn't. Leo saved him." He met eyes with Sean for a second before turning back to Carm. "If he promises to never leave the wing without one of us by his side, will you let this go?"
She huffed coiling back. "Fine." Before walking off out the regular door mumbling about having to get that repaired now.
Cole laughed for a second coming and joining us on the bench. "Garrett why don't you grab Havok and go clothes shopping. I think us cats and Sean need to talk."
Garrett glared at Xavier. "You going to make him leave too?"
Cole huffed shaking his head for a second. "Xavier's punishment for being the way he has been is to be Sean's escort until he is beyond 100% trained according to Carm. So he has to stay within the room at the very least."
