Metamorphosis
Blaineley and Dakota are spending a day at the butterfly garden.
After Dakota introduced herself to Blaineley after eating her favorite snack, Blaineley had a bright idea.
"Hey, do you want to go somewhere?" he suggested.
"Oh, right now?" Dakota asked.
"There's a butterfly garden at the park, I was wondering if you wanted to go today before I met you." Blaineley said.
Dakota blinked before answering.
"S-sure, okay."
As soon as Dakota agreed, Blaineley took her hand and grabbed their bus tickets and headed out the door.
They started talking as they got on the bus heading to the park.
"So... when did you realize it?" Blaineley asked.
"To be honest, I think I've known this whole time that it was... me. I guess I've noticed that I've been acting differently as I've gotten older, sitting down more, doing the same things as you?"
"I knew that, but I didn't think it would come to this."
"So what do you think?" Dakota asked, a little worried. Blaineley had been his best friend for years, and having this sudden change basically dropped on his front doorstep (literally) was a tough thing to stomach. Blaineley was quick to accept his best friend's reacquaintance, but it was still something to stomach.
"I admit I was caught off guard, but no matter what, I'll always be your best friend."
"What about the others? Staci, Ella, Miles-
"They'll always be our friends. We have so much history together, it's hard not to. It'll take a while for them to adjust, but they'll always have your back.
Dakota looks at Blaineley in surprise.
"How can you just accept this change? We've known each other for years and suddenly your best friend comes back and basically tells you this." Dakota asked incredulously.
Blaineley holds Dakota tightly, making the girl blush slightly.
"I know everything is new and a lot, but Dak, no matter how new you are, act, feel, or person you are, you will always be the same sweet girl who was my first friend. Nothing will ever change how much you mean to me."
Dakota's eyes get a little misty as she holds her oldest friend tightly. The two sit close for a while until the bus reaches their destination.
Dakota wipes her eyes and Blaineley leads her off the bus and into the park.
The two walk towards a few tents with gardens and butterflies, they enter one and marvel at the colorful winged incests. They scatter all over the tent, one even landing on Dakota's index finger.
"Oh, hello, little one," Dakota mumbled.
"You know how to impress everyone from people to butterflies, don't you?"
"You're giving me too many compliments."
Blaineley takes a picture as Dakota admires the view. Blaineley takes a picture of them, along with several butterflies surrounding them. They even see a butterfly emerge from its cocoon.
After a while, the two friends lie down on the carousel and look up at the sky.
Dakota gives Blaineley a gentle smile, which Blaineley notices.
"You're okay?"
Dakota smiles back at him sweetly, leaning her head on his shoulder.
She responds with a relieved sigh.
"It's never been better."
As they both slowly spin around in happiness, a blue and orange butterfly lands on their heads.
