: Uncle Horse led his niece past decrepit old places, then stopped at last under a sign which read laces.
Madeline looked around. "Something tells me I am not in Paris anymore..."
As Madeline was about to ask a the man a question.
Horst stumbled, and dropped Madeline's suitcases onto his feet. "Sacre bleu Mon Pied!"
"Uncle Horst, what happened to your Viennese accent?" Madeline narrowed her eyes suspiciously.
Horst stammered "V-viennese Moi? Um, Uh... Jawohl Jawohl"
"You are not from Vienna are you?!" Madeline glared.
"Little troublemaker," Horst said angrily and glared at Madeline and grabbled the girl to make her go into the building.
Madeline gasped. "Non as she tried to wiggle out of the man's grasp. she let lose another bead from her mother's necklace that luckily made it out the door.
"Who are you?" Madeline asked trying to sound brave but she was really frightened.
"It's Henri to you." Henri replied, sounding exasperated.
Madeline gasped. "Henri?! Not Horst?! Not mine and Riley's uncle? We have no family?"
"What you have, Princess, is a new home!" He replied as he revealed his true self as they were heading down the stairs.
Madeline gulped as she went down the stairs.
"Close the door." A female from downstairs sounded rather grouchy- "Sunlight ruins the lace!"
Henri closed the door while trying to carry Madeline's suitcase, only to fall down the stairs making his hat fall off.
Madeline chuckled to herself ever so silently. The small girl was kind enough to give the man his Hat.
Applauds "Bravo." The female voice said, accompanied by clapping. "Such a noble entrance. Henri the failed actor! Only good at accents. I hate bit players almost as much as I hate little girls who don't know when to afraid." The Women looked at Madeline with an evil look.
"I am afraid, but even more brave." Madeline replied bravely.
"Ha! I'm La Croque." The woman replied. "Short for La Crocodile"
"Heh heh, would you have believed they once called her La Jolie Fleur?" Henri whispered to Madeline.
" LA Croque scolded. "Nobody gave you lines to speak!"
"La Jolie Fleur, 'The Pretty Flower'. What happened?" Madeline asked.
"She wilted." Henri whispered.
"You do not have permission to speak." La Croque replied. Isn't that right Kathy?
Kathy nodded as Madeline's eyes lit up.
"Aunt Kathy it's so good to see you. Where have you been? Madeline says and runs to give her aunt a hug (even though Kathy had been mean to, Madeline and Riley have never given up hope on their aunt changing her ways.)
however Kathy just snarled at Madeline and pushed her making her fall backwards
Kathy and La Croque grab both of Madeline's arms.
Kathy said harshly "And you. No more questioning." with a pair of scissors and pull her over to a table
as the other girls gasped in fear.
"W-what are the scissors for?" Madeline asked.
"You will do as you are told. Making lace for as long as I say, and if you are not quick, I will cut off your hair and use it to make lace." La Croque threaded before throwing the hat off of Madeline's head.
Madeline gasped as she ran her hands down her hair.
Back at the front of the room, La Crouque was telling Kathy and Henri.
"Just as I forged the court papers, I will make fake reports from a Viennese school that doesn't exist and send them to the bank that controls Madeline's family fortune."
"And...?" Henri asked with a evilly smile
"And... each month, a nice fat check will come." La Croque replied Pour Moi
"We get Madeline and Riley's money while she is here under lock and key." Henri cackled with her.
"It is Brilliant!" La Croque replied gleefully
"Oh oui it is great Kathy agreed as well shooting an evil look at Madeline.
"It is Criminal!" Madeline replied"".
"Shh. Your apron, your pillow." The black haired girl said as she handed Madeline her new stuff
"Merce." Madeline replied.
"See how I do it?" The girl asked, "With these bobbing?" Before demonstrating her new job"
"So complicated..." Madeline frowned and she then asked "What is your name?
" My name is Fifi and Oui. At first it take much time, but you are smart, Non?" The girl smiled. "You will learn fast..." Before whispering, "Just be careful. Do not get La Croque angry."
"How can I help it?" Madeline glared. "They tricked me."
The black hair girl nodded in understanding.
"And how long will she be our guest?" Henri asked La Croque.
"Oh a loooong time." La Croque smirked.
"Like... forever?" Henri smirked back.
"Ah, Henri. Your mind is so fast." La Croque put her arm around his shoulder. "Tres Rapido! Bravo!" Kathy nodded as well.
"And why is he here again"? Henri asked while pointing to Noah.
"To make sure the brats don't try to escape so soon. Especially the redhead one. Lacroque then looked at Madeline once more with a sharp glare she said. Remember, work for your keep- ah the rarest lace of all is red lace, from red hair." La Croque snipped her scissors towards Madeline's direction. "Come, Henri."

Back in Paris
: While Madeline was trapped it seemed in one of La Croque's crocked schemes, her friends and sister back in Paris were working to find her- where could she be? along with two parents,
Miss Clavel had called the police as soon as she and the girls had gotten home that day. and showed the note to the police that Riley had received the day before.
"Le Gendarme. Madam, there are two other people waiting at the station to talk with you."
Miss Clavel nodded "Girls, I will go with Monsieur Le Gendarme, and make a missing person report."
Miss Clavel told the 12 girls, "You will wait here with Mrs. Murphy."
"Oui, Miss Clavel." The girls replied.
As Miss Clavel soon left the office, the siren blared as the cruise drove off to the station leaving the boarding school.
They soon heard a beeping sound coming from the bedroom coming from Riley's bed. The girls collectively turned to Riley.
Riley gasped and remembered what the letter had said- that one doll would start beeping if she or Madeline is out of state.

"Riley, what does the location say?" Yevette asked.
"Dentelle?" Riley squinted her eyes. "What does that Mean?
"That is French for Lace." Anna replied.
"But first how to leave Mrs. Murphy..." Chole replied

This caused Madeline to giggle a bit.
"Non, non," Madeline shook her head. "It was a necklace. This is the last bead left."
"How sad," Fifi replied. "You had to sell the rest?"
"No," Madeline replied, "I dropped them."
"Paver, Madeline." Fifi replied, "you lost them all? That's the worst."
"Non, non. Fif" Madeline replied. "Listen, when I began to think something was wrong, I knew I must leave a clue.
"Ah, like Hansel and Gretel!" Fifi asked.
"Exactement!" Madeline nodded. "A trail for the others to follow and find me."
"Who are these others?" Fifi asked.
"Mes Amiel and Mes sœur, my very good friend and sister." Madeline smiled.
"You are so clever and lucky to have friends who will look for you." Fifi smiled before coughing. "But to leave your mother's beads, that must have been hard."
"That's why I kept the last one." Madeline replied as she handed the bead to her new friend.
"Fifi took the bead and examined it. "The lion to make you strong?"
"Oui. And hope that my friends and sister will find me." Madeline nodded before taking the bead back.
"You are lucky to have someone look for you." She replied. "There's nobody to look for me. No one to find me." Fifi said and then coughed heaver then before.

Fifi nodded and was about to say something else when the door from upstairs opened.
They soon heard La Croque and Henri coming back down. As Noah looked up from the newspaper, he saw the people he was working with. He found the two weak compared to him.
"Why aren't you working!" La Croque shook her fist at the girls.
Fifi giggled while coughing hoarsely.

Madame La croque then clipped her scissor as a warning to the girls
as the girls then quickly went back to work so their hair wouldn't be cut to make lace.
Madeline watched her new friend for a few more minutes and then she sighed as she started to work.
