Elena was sitting on her bed the next morning. She'd woken up a few minutes ago alone in her room. She knew she wouldn't be alone for very long though. She was never left alone for long. Since Klaus and Elijah arrived, barely a few minutes past without one of them by her side. She didn't understand why they bothered. They should hate her.
Soon, the door opened, and Elijah stepped inside carrying a blood bag. He smiled at Elena as he walked over. "Good morning, dear. I'm glad to see you're up. How are you doing today?"
Elena merely shrugged in response.
"Well, you at least seem more rested this morning. I have some blood for you," Elijah said.
"I just fed yesterday. You were there. You forced me to," Elena said a bit bitterly.
"Yes, and you're going to again today, hopefully without giving us trouble this time," Elijah said.
"I don't have to feed every day. I've gone days before without it being a big deal," Elena said.
Elijah sat down next to her on the bed. "First of all, that isn't a good habit to get into. Yes, it's doable, but you should be feeding at least once a day to make sure you keep up your strength."
"I didn't know that. Stefan told when I first turned that I should go a few days to help with control," Elena said.
Elijah sighed. He was a bit annoyed to hear that. He believed Stefan probably meant well, but it was terrible advice. "No offense to Stefan, but I would prefer you not take control tips from a ripper. Starving yourself doesn't help control in the slightest. Feeding regularly is what you need. Also, you have gone too long without feeding until yesterday, so you will be feeding more often for the next week or so. I would've liked you to have fed again last night, but you were sleeping, and I didn't have the heart to wake you. Take the blood please.
Elena reluctantly took the blood bag. She didn't want to feed, but she knew she didn't have a choice. She didn't want to be held down again.
Elijah smiled at his niece as she started drinking. "That's my girl. Thank you."
Elena finished the bag and then placed it on the table next to her.
"Would you like to go downstairs? I'm sure your friends would love to spend time with you while they can," Elijah said. Now that Damon was securely locked in the basement where he couldn't do any damage to his niece, he would like to get her out of her bedroom.
Elena shook her head. She didn't want to talk to anyone. She didn't want her friends telling her how much they cared about her or looking at her with concern. She didn't deserve their concern.
"Okay. You don't have to. Maybe in a little while. How about you talk with me instead?" Elijah asked.
"About what?" Elena asked.
"Well, for starters, I would like to know why you would walk into the sun without your daylight ring,"
"You know why," Elena said as she looked away from him.
"I know that you've been very depressed since you learned the truth about your origins. I know you feel a lot of pain because of Grayson Gilbert and guilt over the death or your father, but I would like to know what you were thinking in that moment. Were you trying to kill yourself?" Elijah asked. There was no judgement in this voice, just a desire to understand.
"Not exactly. I was pretty sure it wouldn't kill me, just like the stake didn't kill me. If it did end up killing me, it would be a happy accident," Elena said.
Elijah sighed. He was deeply concerned by Elena's description of her possible death being a happy accident, but he decided not to comment on that right now. "I heard that you were staked, but not how it happened. Did you stake yourself?"
"No. Wes Maxfield did when he told me everything. I didn't believe him, so he stabbed me to prove that I was an Original," Elena said.
"I see," Elijah said tightly. When they confronted the Augustines, he would be making it a point to make that man suffer. "Please go on. Tell me what led to you taking your daylight ring off."
"I was thinking about Kol. I'm always thinking about Kol. I dream about him almost every night. He says the same thing every time. That I'm evil and that I should burn like he did," Elena cried.
"And that's why you did it," Elijah said. It wasn't a question.
"I deserved it," she said with a sob.
Elijah placed a hand on her cheek and whipped a few of her tears with his finger. "Oh, sweetheart, that's not true, and believe me when I tell you that Kol would never have told you to burn yourself. I wish you had come to me when you first found this out. We could've helped you before it got to this point."
"I didn't want to inflict myself on you. I figured you'd hate me, that you'd be disgusted that I was your niece," Elena said.
"Never. I cared very much for you even before I realized we were related. Now that I know we are, that has only intensified," Elijah said.
"But I shouldn't exist. My entire existence is based on an act of non-consent," Elena said.
"And that is not your fault. Oh, sweetheart, we will get through this. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but you will survive this," Elijah promised.
"If you say so," Elena said.
Elijah sighed. He knew she didn't believe him, but there wasn't anything he could do about that now. It was going to take time for them to help her. "I wanted to let you know that Niklaus and I will have to go out for a little while tonight. We won't be gone long, only a couple of hours. Caroline, Bonnie, and Stefan will stay with you. I want your word that you won't try to hurt yourself while we're gone."
"What's it matter? It's not like I can die," Elena said.
"Promise me, Elena?" Elijah said firmly.
"Fine, I promise," she said.
Elijah smiled. "Thank you. I'm going to hold you to your word. Now, I would like you to tell me about what Wes Maxfield did to you."
Elena nodded before telling him everything that happened when she was kidnapped by Augustine.
Xxxxxxxxxx
Jeremy stood in front of every Augustine member he could find inside the Lockwood's living room. It wasn't hard to get them to agree to meet with them. Maxfield had been the first one he contacted, and he'd been excited to meet with him, and to organize a meeting with the rest of them. He'd suggested they meet at the Lockwood mansion. Tyler was out of town and gave Jeremy his keys. "Thank you for meeting with me."
"Of course. Your Grayson Gilbert's boy. We owe him so much. We were excited to meet his son," Wes said.
"I'm sure he would've been glad to know his work continued," Jeremy said. He was sure that was the truth. His father would be glad that his depravity continued.
"We would love it if you joined us, Jeremy, but you're still a little young. We've never had members under the age of eighteen," Wes said.
"That's okay. Science isn't my thing. Mad science definitely isn't," Jeremy said.
"What?" Wes asked. There were other confused murmurs from the other members.
"You know, I'm a hunter. I've killed my fair share of vampires when I've had to, but it takes a truly sick person to experiment on people," Jeremy said in disgust.
"They aren't people," one woman said indignantly.
"I don't understand. Your father…"
"My father was a lunatic, just like the rest of you! And soon you'll all be joining him in hell," Jeremy said as he watched Klaus come out from behind the group at the back door.
"Well, not too soon," Klaus said, causing them all to turn to them. He pointed to Maxfield. "Especially not for that one."
"Everyone, meet Klaus, the Original Hybrid. He doesn't take too kindly to experiments on his family members," Jeremy said.
There were a bunch of fearful murmurs from the group, and they all began to retreat in the other direction, towards the exit of the living room, only to find Elijah waiting for them.
"Hmm. For people who have no trouble turning vampires into science experiments, you all frighten easily," Elijah commented.
Wes looked at Jeremey in betrayal. "You set us up."
Jeremy smirked. "You were an idiot to think I'd do anything else after what you did to my sister.
The Augustine members all began to run, but no one got very far. Elijah broke several members' necks. It was a bit quick for his liking, but there were many of them and he didn't want to chance any of them getting away.
Klaus, on the other hand, preferred things a little more bloody. He relieved a few of them of their hearts and fed on the rest. Soon, all that was Wes Maxfield, who attempted to run, only to be caught by Klaus, who picked him up by the throat. "Your death will be much slower, I'm afraid. After all, you put your hands on my niece. That you must be punished for.
"Bring him to the dining room, Niklaus. We'll do it there," Elijah said before leading the way.
Klaus did as his brother asked. They went to the dining room and tied the human down to the table. He looked appropriately terrified. "How does it feel to be the experiment, Dr. Maxfield?"
Wes didn't say anything. He just laid there in terror.
Elijah looked at Jeremy, who was in the doorway. "Jeremy, I'd like you to leave now. This is going to get very disturbing. I don't want you seeing it."
Jeremy nodded before heading out of the room.
Elijah looked down at the man on the table. "Dr. Maxfield, my niece tells me you took several pints of her blood to see how long it would take her to pass out. Let's see how long you last." He grabbed a bag filled with medical equipment he'd taken from the hospital and began setting it up.
"Of course, it's not a fair test, is it. Elena is an Original. You wouldn't last nearly as long as her. Plus, I'll be conducting tests on your internal organs at the same time. I'm told you didn't do it with Elena, but that you people like cutting up internal organs. It's only fair that you suffer from your own experiments. It should be interesting to see what experiment kills you first. That will be my experiment," Klaus said with a smirk before grabbing a knife from the tools his brother had laid out. He cut into the man's chest and listened with glee as he screamed.
