Author's Note: Before we start, I want to make some acknowledgments from the Beginning Note before I actually published the first chapter.
1: The Pairing is obviously going to be Ochaco (or is it Ochako?), but with a few changes to her character. The Manga seriously didn't do her justice. And I had a Guest Justin D suggest an AU Quirk for her. She still has her Zero Gravity Quirk, but it will change into something called Cosmos. Now Justin D knows this Quirk because he came up with it, but I'm gonna keep it under wraps for now.
2: The thing with Bakugō was about 50/50. So I decided to go with some pretty pride bruising events leading up to Izuku's "super" reveal. And then some when U.A. starts.
3: Now as far as power and OP-ness goes, it was 50/50 again, so I went with believable growth toward OP-ness. Izuku's gonna be powerful, make no mistake of that. But Superman has a lot of weaknesses that can easily be exploited, not just Krytonite.
4: Although he hasn't shown up yet, everyone was for Dad-Might. Needless to say, with powers like Superman's, there's no way he wouldn't take an interest in Izuku.
5: I'm still on the fence about OFA, but I actually played with the idea of letting All Might keep it. You'll see how in later chapters.
6: AFO is the big bad in this fic. Again, he was a character that the manga didn't do justice to. Right up until he was broken out of prison, he was a real monster, though even in the Kamino arc, he wasn't used to his fullest potential.
2: The Former Man of Steel
Izuku looked up at the man kneeling before him. He could barely believe his ears after what he had heard. Grandpa Kent could help him gain a Quirk? How? Quirks were supposed to be genetic. It wasn't like some kind of medical procedure could help him. Furthermore, how was the man that had been a grandfather to him supposed to help him?
"If you'd stop muttering a hundred miles a minute, I'd explain," Clark chuckled as Izuku realized that he'd been muttering everything that was going through his head at that moment, "But first, I think we should get you back to your mother." The man rose and helped the boy to his feet, "Before anything is decided, I think I should explain a few things first."
Izuku stumbled clumsily to his feet, "Explain a few things?" The boy asked, rubbing his eyes with the back of his sleeve, "You mean like how you're supposed to help me?"
"Among other things, yes," Clark chuckled as he patted the boy's back and guided him toward the stairs. "But that can wait until after you've gotten yourself cleaned up a bit more."
Izuku looked down at himself, blushing slightly as he realized that his uniform was still covered in dirt and grime from his escape earlier. It wasn't ripped up or damaged like it usually was when Bakugō was after him for one reason or another, but his mother would still start bawling her eyes out. "Time to get ready for another flood complaint," he muttered with his head lowered to his chest.
Clark held back a laugh. "She does tend to cry a lot." He said as he led the boy back to his apartment.
While the two of them made their way home, Ochaco was looking after the two of them out of the window of the landlord's office. Her parents were currently discussing a few details about her apartment. Namely an inspection for the building and perhaps some discounted repairs in exchange for a lower rate. It wasn't a bad deal, per se, but she was a bit of a penny pincher on her best of days. Still, her parents were getting a very good deal.
Which allowed the girl to think about her soon-to-be neighbors. Clark seemed to be a very kind man considering how he was around his "grandson". Kind but protective if what she had seen, or hadn't seen, earlier was of any indication. The man had quite literally appeared out of nowhere when Brick had gone for her mother, but thank goodness that he had. The resulting fight between him and her father would not have been pretty, and given how the boy was talking about someone that was seemingly Quirkless, she didn't want to think about what would have happened to her parents.
Luckily, the man seemed to know how to handle bullies.
The look on the delinquents' faces had been absolutely priceless. It wasn't something that she would soon forget, especially since she hated anyone that was cruel to the Quirkless. It wasn't their fault that they didn't have Quirks. And she felt it was wrong to dehumanize them for it.
"Ochaco?" Her mother said, gaining her attention, "Something wrong, Dear?"
Ochaco shook her head, "No, just thinking," she said, "Do you really think that boy we met was a late bloomer like Mr. Kent said?"
Her mother shrugged, "It's impossible to say, Sweetie," she said, "I know that Mr. Kent said that he was a late bloomer," she shook her head slowly, "But when I looked at the two of them closely, I didn't see any family resemblance at all."
"Yeah," Ochaco nodded, "When looking at them, Mr. Kent has really broad shoulders, and a sorta square-looking jaw," she noted, "Plus, he's super tall compared to Dad, and he's pretty tall compared to a lot of people we know."
Himari gave a nod, "Yes, and Mr. Kent is obviously an American," she pointed out, "And even if he were Izuku's grandfather, the two of them would be just barely related, because I didn't notice any shared features between the two of them." She placed a finger to her lips in thought, "Still, though, Mr. Kent didn't seem like the lying type to me, so perhaps there is some merit to what he was saying, or maybe he's trying to keep the boy's spirits up."
Ochaco's face fell slightly, "So he might really be Quirkless?"
She was talking more to herself than to her mother, but her mother gave another thoughtful expression, "Like I said, Dear, it's a hard to say," she repeated, "I've known some late bloomers that got their Quirks later in life, but that was only until they turned five or six." She sat back with her arms crossed over her stomach, "A boy Izuku's age should have gotten his Quirk long before now, late bloomer or not."
Her daughter pouted, drawing her legs up against her chest, "If he's telling Izuku all that even though he knows he's never going to have a Quirk, then I think he's being too cruel."
Himari smiled at her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "I know, Dear, but he's not doing so intentionally," she told her, "Mr. Kent seems like a very kind man, even if it seems like he's being cruel about getting the boy's hopes up." Her mother then gained a foxy look on her face. "Are you actually crushing on Izuku?"
Ochaco looked at her mother, "Mom, I'm going to be a Hero," she reminded her, "I don't have time for crushes."
"But I want some grandkids," Himari pouted, much to her daughter's embarrassment.
"Mama!"

Meanwhile...
The moment Izuku had walked into their apartment, Inko had been in full motherly panic mode. Though he had managed to clean himself up decently enough, one look was all his mother needed to know that something had happened.
Clark had excused himself to return to his apartment for a moment, promising to be quick so he could explain things to both of the Midoriyas. The man returned after just a few minutes, but in that entire time, Izuku had been subject to his mother's inspection: she wanted to make certain that there were no injuries. While not on the same level as Katsuki, Daichi Yamaguchi was no less of a bully because he tended to follow along with others. Meaning that Bakugō had a direct influence on the boy's behavior.
Add to the fact that, while Bakugō's explosions were terrifyingly devastating, Yamaguchi's stone-hardened fists could be just as bad when it came to damage. While Bakugō tended to simply assert his dominance, Yamaguchi could easily kill someone if he wasn't careful enough with those fists of his.
"Mom, seriously, I'm fine," Izuku mumbled as Inko checked him over for a fifth time, "Daichi never laid a hand on me. Grandpa Kent stopped him."
Inko shook her head, "It's lucky that he did, but he shouldn't have had to step in at all!" She said, sounding more angry than worried now, "I'm calling the school! There's no way that I'm letting this slide!" She said and went for their landline phone, "That boy not only tried to attack you off the campus, but he also attempted to use his Quirk on someone else just because they tried to stop him!"
Izuku sat himself on the couch, "You know that won't do any good," he reminded her, "Daichi will just get detention for a couple of days."
"Oh, I'm not going after the boy, Sweetie, I'm going straight for the school!" Inko proclaimed, "This is blatant encouragement of bullying! And this time I have witnesses!" She was waving the phone around like a magic wand of some sort, "No middle school student in any other district would openly attack an adult, unless they were confident that they could get away with it!"
Izuku frowned: Daichi Yamaguchi was never one of the brighter students in Alderaan Middle School. He was more of a follower. If he saw someone doing something that was usually not allowed, then he figured that he could do it as well, and take it to the next level to make himself look cool to others.
Before his mother could place her call, however, a knock came to the door, "Oh, that must be Mr. Kent," Inko said before placing the phone back in its receiver. Izuku breathed a sigh of relief when she did that. Whatever she spoke with the principal about, he was sure to come out of it with more than a few bruises. Or broken bones. Or both.
Inko was at the door and welcoming the tall man in a moment later, and Izuku noticed that he was carrying a small silver-colored briefcase. "I trust Izuku's not injured?" He asked as he slipped out of his shoes, and into a pair of slippers Inko provided for him.
"As far as I can tell, yes," the woman said with a small sigh before looking up at him with a tender smile, "Thank you so much for looking out for him." The man smiled down at her kindly while she wiped a stray tear from her eye, "I swear, you look out for us more than most people would care to."
Clark chuckled, "Well, Inko, I was raised to care about others," he said, absently reaching out to pat her on the head as he used to do to his son, "And you two are like family to me, so I tend to care more than most."
"Bless you for it," the woman smiled with a small blush on her cheeks at the warm touch of his large, weathered hand. She then looked at the case he was carrying, "What's that you have there?"
It was then that the man grew slightly tense, "It's something that I think could help your son," he said as the boy in question perked up. He gestured to the couch, "But I think some explaining is in order before I give this to him." He said as he and Inko went to sit with her son.
Inko looked at the case curiously, "Help him?" She queried, "How? Unless you have something in there that can magically give him a Quirk, then - "
"Not quite magic," Clark interrupted, causing a look of confusion to cross the woman's face, "More like science."
Izuku looked at his mother, "He said something about being able to help me get a Quirk," he said before looking at his pseudo grandfather, "But how could you - ?"
Clark raised a hand, stopping both of them as Inko was about to start in on him, too, "I'll explain everything if you'd both let me," he chuckled, "And I suppose that the best place to do that is at the beginning." He smiled at the mother and son, "I'm old...far older than I look," he gestured to himself, "It's one side of my...my Quirk that I've truly come to hate over the years...the centuries," when the word left his lips, Inko let out a gasp while Izuku leaned in more eagerly.
"Your Quirk let's you live that long?" Izuku looked excited as he pull one of his notebooks out of his...where had he been keeping it?
Clark smiled at the boy, seeming to age decades right in front of the little family, "It's not all it's cracked up to be, Izuku," he said, "I've had to watch as time left me behind: my wife, my son," his head dropped slightly as he spoke, "Everything I ever held dear to me, turned to dust." He ran a hand down his face, "Yet, here I am, still going through the motions of living."
"Just," Inko spoke timidly, "Just how old are you claiming to be?"
Clark looked at her, "I was born...in the year nineteen thirty-eight," he watched with a small amount of amusement as her eyes widened to the size saucers, "That puts me at about eleven hundred years, now."
Inko's hand flew to her mouth, almost sickened, "My god..." she breathed out, horrified.
Even Izuku's composure was broken as his notebook hit the floor. Clark smiled at them, feeling every single second of his age in that moment, "It's true. I've been alive on this planet far longer than any human being," he said sounding incredibly sad, "And I'll probably be here until the sun grows cold."
"Erm," Inko cleared her throat, "What - er - what does this have to do with...giving Izuku a Quirk?"
"I'll get to that," Clark promised, "But first, I should tell you that I was a Hero all those years ago, too," he said as Izuku's face brightened again, "I was known to everyone as Superman," a flicker of recognition raced across Izuku's face, "Looks like you've heard of me, then?"
Izuku nodded, "Superman, at least from what I've read about him, was hailed as the greatest Hero that ever lived," the boy said, "Even All Might gets compared to him sometimes since he's similar to him in a few ways."
Clark scoffed, "Please, All Might and I are nothing alike," he shook his head, "True, the man doesn't care for fame and glory like most Heroes do these days, but he's a far cry from what a Hero should be."
Izuku frowned at that, and he couldn't really blame him. All Might was the boy's favorite Hero as well as his inspiration for becoming a Hero. "I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve all the praise he gets," Clark told the boy, "But you have to understand: I grew up in a world where Quirks were only just starting to appear in people." He gestured to himself, "My parents wanted me to hide my powers so that I could have a normal life."
"What changed?" Inko asked.
Clark shrugged at the question, "I'd been taught that if you can help someone, then you should," he said, "And I had these amazing powers, so why shouldn't I use them for good?" He reasoned, "And that started a long career of saving the day. No paychecks, just helping where I could, when I could, and however I could." He sighed with slight disappointment, "Nowadays, most Heroes just want to be paid to use their Quirks, or get famous so they can make more money." He then smiled a little, "It was already happening when I was still going around doing my part. Governments were creating their own super powered individuals, and putting them on their payrolls."
"And when it started getting more widespread, I stepped out of the light and let the world move on," he chuckled humorlessly, "It didn't take the world long to forget about Superman."
Izuku frowned at him, "Why did you stop?" The boy asked, "You could've made today's Heroes all that much better if you'd given them someone to look up to."
"I tried for a time," Clark admitted, "Then World War III happened," he sighed sadly, "It was basically those with powers against those without...I was on the side of those without." He shook his head, "You both know how that war ended."
Izuku knew about it all too well. Alderaan's history teacher was fond of pointing out the superiority of the Quirked side of the war against the vastly superior numbers of the Quirkless side. One person with a powerful Quirk was worth hundreds of Quirkless soldiers. More to the point, while he knew that Superman had been on the Quirkless side of the war, his teacher liked pointed out that Superman had sided with those with Quirks instead.
"When the war ended, I hung up my cape for a while until my son wanted to take up the fight," Clark went on, sighing a moment later, "I never should've let him." He shook his head, "Even when I was retired, I still had enemies that wanted to hurt me...and they did...by killing my son."
Inko let out a strangled gasp. Ever since meeting the man, she knew that he had once had a family, and knew that his wife had long since passed away, but to know that his son had been murdered?
Clark cleared his throat and looked to Izuku, "Being a Hero means a lot of things, Izuku," he told the boy, "Being a good Hero means that you're going to have enemies," he said with a look toward Inko, "I know you don't want to see him hurt," he said while Inko nodded, "Him having a Quirk will lessen some of the pain he's been through, but it'll also bring on pain of a different kind."
"Heroes these days aren't much more than glorified cops," Clark continued, "But the ones that make real differences in the world? They have Villains targeting them, and sometimes their families." Izuku frowned, looking down at his lap, "You're going to have to be prepared for something like that."
"Yes Sir." Izuku nodded slowly,
Clark smiled at the boy and set the briefcase on the coffee table, "Now that I've explained who I used to be," he said and opened the case, "I think it's time I showed you how I wanted to give you your Quirk."
Inside the briefcase were two small vials. One of them was golden/yellow in color, while the other one was red. Clark picked up the yellow one, "This," he held it out to Izuku, "Is an exo-gene serum I created a long time ago." He said while Izuku leaned in, "What it was designed to do was coat normal human DNA with my own, which allowed whoever drank it to have all of my powers, and none of my weaknesses for twenty-four hours."
"Why just twenty-four hours?" Izuku asked right away.
Clark chuckled, "I made this as a birthday gift for my wife so we could spend that day together," he explained, smiling at the memory, "She was Quirkless, and made it no secret that she was just a little jealous of what I could do."
"That must have been quite the birthday she had," Inko smiled at him, "But if this stuff only lasts a day, then - ?"
Clark shook his head, "The original serum only lasted a day, but this one," he held it out to Izuku, "Well, I designed it to completely override a person's Quirk genes, and replace whatever Quirk that they had before, and, if the serum takes, grant them my abilities in a slightly weaker form."
"If it takes?" Izuku frowned.
Clark nodded, "It's going to be a fifty-fifty chance of doing what it's supposed to do," he explained, "And if it does, your powers won't all come to you at once." He said with a shake of his head, "If they did, they'd overwhelm you to the point you wouldn't be able to control yourself well enough to keep those powers in check."
"And what if it doesn't take effect?" Inko asked, "While I admit that this has me more worried than I've ever been, I'm not sure getting my son's hopes up like this is worth it if it doesn't work - "
Clark nodded in understanding, "I know, and you're right," he admitted, "This is going to be left up to chance once he drinks this," he said, holding the vial up to the light, "But if he does gain my powers, even if he doesn't gain all of them, he'll be able to chase after his dream," he smiled at the boy, who was looking at the liquid like it was the most precious thing in the world, "And if he does, then I'm going to be there to make certain that he learns what he needs to be a real Hero."
Inko pursed her lips, looking toward her son. "Izuku, I - Wait!" She yelped as Izuku reached out and took the vial, drinking it down. "Oh," she palmed her face while Izuku wiped his lips. "You couldn't have thought about it for a moment or two?"
"I don't feel any different?" Izuku said quizzically, looking down at his hands and flexing them.
Clark shook his head, "I told you that it'll take a little time to take effect." He reminded the boy, "And you should have let your mother speak, kid." He admonished before looking to Inko, "Sorry about that."
Inko rolled her eyes, "Oh, I knew he was going to take it," she said, "I just hope that it works."
"What's the red one for?" Izuku asked, pointing to the remaining serum.
Clark looked at it, "That," he said, "Is the antiserum. Just in case we need to reverse the effects."

Meanwhile...
Ochaco sighed in relief as the day finally wound down.
The apartment they had found for her was going to be perfect for what she needed. Just enough space for one person. And it was cheap thanks to her father offering to do some work for the landlord half off the regular pricing. And in eleven months she could finally take the U.A. entrance exams. As much as she wanted to stay near home, U.A.'s exams were free, meaning that anyone could participate without having to pay for it.
[Tuition's going to be a problem, though,] she thought as her parents chatted, [But, if I get accepted, maybe I can get a part-time job to help pay for it?] Surely Mustafar had plenty of smalltime jobs that were worth looking into.
"I still think we should have checked in with that boy's family," Himari said with a hint of regret in her voice, "It's only right, don't you think so, Dear?" She asked, turning to her husband.
Aoto gave a slight shrug, "Can't be helped, Honey," he said with a shake of his head, "We need to get back to work as soon as tomorrow, and it's a long train ride back home."
Ochaco nodded, "He's right, Mom, we couldn't risk missing the train."
Himari sighed, "Still, though, I feel bad," she said, "What that poor boy must have gone through? And that's not even considering his mother!"
Aoto chuckled, "You just wanted to see if you could set him up with Ochaco." He said while their daughter let out a strangled squawk.
"Well, so what?" Himari humphed, "It's never too early to think about the future," she looked over at her daughter, "And besides, Ochaco thought he was cute, right Sweetie?"
Ochaco frowned at her, "Don't go dragging me into your romantic fantasies, Mom!"
"Fantasies my foot," Himari laughed, "I saw the way you were looking at him!"
Ochaco huffed and crossed her arms, "That was out of worry, not attraction!" She said, turning her face away from her mother, "And once I get into U.A., I'm gonna be too darn busy to even think about having a boyfriend!"
"Good," Aoto smirked, "Besides that, there ain't no boy out there that's worth your time."
His wife rolled her eyes at them, "You two are ridiculous," she groaned, "Besides, whether it be a boy or a girl, you really can't control who you fall in love with," she made a gesture to her husband, "Look at who I got in the end."
"Hey now!" Aoto mock scowled at her, making his wife and daughter laugh. "She is right, though, Ochaco," he sighed, "While I'm glad you wanna focus on your studies, don't let that overshadow your time with friends, or family." He said with a small frown, "Because, while you may not know it right now, these days are gonna fly by faster than you can blink, and you're going to miss them if you're not careful."
Ochaco smiled at him, "Don't worry, Dad," she said, "This is U.A. we're talking about, there's no way I wouldn't enjoy my time there."
