Author's Note:
Despite wishing that I did, unfortunately I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho and am simply a fan of both the Manga and the show.
There will be some original characters of mine that are used in this fanfiction, I hope you will enjoy them when they show up.
Please note that this fanfiction is based on one that was originally posted all the way back in 2010 and was last updated in 2013 and after reviewing my original work, I decided to completely revamp the story and delete the original. If you enjoyed the original then I apologize, but hopefully those who read it will enjoy this version just as much.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. It's about time that we get to the main story.
Chapter One:
Kuwabara was extremely excited, it had been a long time since he had seen everyone and he couldn't wait until he got to Genki's place. While excited to see all of his friends, especially his beloved Yukina, Kuwabara wasn't just going to see Genki just because of the reunion; there were two more personal reasons why he was glad to have an excuse to head all the way to Genki's place.
The first of these more personal reasons was so that he could get advice from Genki about the vision's he had been having, one such vision having been of a future where Hiei was talking to Yukina about the fact that he was her brother after something unknown and horrible had almost happened to her. While initially shocked to have learned this, upon thinking about it more carefully, Kuwabara had realized that it made sense that Hiei would be Yukina's brother.
Regardless of how much sense it made to him now, as Kuwabara gently touched the black velvet box in his pocket he couldn't help but wonder exactly what horrible thing would happen to Yukina that would cause Hiei to reveal his secret to her. Another thing that worried Kuwabara slightly less was the second personal reason he wanted to go to Genki's, he intended to propose to Yukina and worried that Hiei would end up doing something to try to stop him.
It wasn't exactly a secret that Hiei disliked him, which meant that Kuwabara had been dreading proposing to Yukina in front of him and the others. As Kuwabara fiddled with the velvet box in his pocket, however, his thoughts were interrupted as the bus came to a sudden stop. Kuwabara had been to Genki's place enough to know that he was close to the bus stop but that they hadn't reached it yet.
"Huh, I wonder what's going on?" Kuwabara thought to himself, watching as the bus driver left the bus and went to check on the engine.
"Alright everyone, I have good news and bad news for you all. The bad news is that our engine is out of commission and since we're out in the middle of nowhere it's going to take an hour before someone from the company can come out to help us. The good news is that we're about a mile from the next bus stop, so anyone who was supposed to get off there can probably walk if they want." The bus driver announced to those on the bus upon coming back onto it.
Naturally, the decision was a no brainer for Kuwabara, if the next bus stop was only a mile away then there would be no problem with him walking to it and then making his way to Genki's place, the carrot top was quick to let the bus driver know his decision and was immediately allowed off the bus. Having hiked in the past, it didn't take long for Kuwabara to arrive at the bus stop; though just as he reached it he felt a sudden jolt of pain in his head and his vision started to blur.
"Oh come on! Not now, please!" Kuwabara grumbled out loud as he leaned against the bus stop.
Unfortunately for Kuwabara, there was little he could do to stop the vision from coming. The next thing he knew he was seeing a vision of three strange men, one with red hair that was spiky like Hiei's, one who was short and had light blue hair, and finally a man dressed in with long black hair; two these men seeming to be arguing with one another while the shorted of the three almost looked bored.
While Kuwabara could see this, for some reason he couldn't tell what the two arguing men were saying and before he could worry why this was he was hit with another vision that hit closer to home. In this new vision, he saw both himself and Hiei arguing with one another about something, and Yusuke trying to interfere on his behalf .
The vision also showed that Yukina had noticed what was going on and was also trying to interfere, though Kuwbarra could tell that something had happened that ultimately upset her and caused her to leave the area. Before he could process what he had just seen, Kuwabara found himself feeling somewhat shocked as the second vision started to fade and a third one started.
In this third vision, Yukina had made her way into the forest behind Genki's manor and was sitting against a tree crying; which was causing hiruiseki stones to gather around her. While this was upsetting to see, Kuwabara felt a sense of dread fill him as the man with the long hair who had been in his first vision appeared suddenly in this third one; finding himself feeling all the more dread as Yukina visibly tensed up at the sight of the man.
Kuwabara could tell that Yukina and this man were talking to one another but, to his annoyance, he could not hear what they were saying. Very quickly, however, Kuwabara realized that the conversation was the last thing he should be worried about as, in the vision, he saw the man with the long black hair pinning Yukina to the tree she had been sitting in front of.
To Kuwabara's absolute horror, the last thing he saw as the vision started to fade, was the black haired man pressing his lips to Yukina's; something that Kuwabara could tell was draining her of her life force. As he was allowed back into reality, Kuwabara could help but gasp in horror at what he had seen and without hesitating he took off in the direction of Genki's place, hoping that he'd be in time able to prevent what he had just seen.
Having run as quickly as he could, Kuwabara was able to get to Genki's in no time; though as he reached the bottom of the stairs he couldn't help but groan in annoyance at the knowledge that he still had to climb up them.
Despite feeling tired after having run, Kuwabara wasted no time in rushing up the stairs after taking a breath. Eventually, to his great relief, Kuwabara managed to make his way to the top, though he was slightly annoyed to see that Genki had left a sign that instructed those who were here for the reunion to go back to the garden she had let Yukina have.
"There you are, Kuwabara. We were wondering if you'd ever get here." Yusuke said in a teasing tone as an exhausted Kuwabara made his way back into the garden.
"He's not wrong, you're surprisingly late for someone who is normally so eager for an excuse to come here. Yukina has been worried about you" Hiei chimed in, speaking before Kuwabara could catch his breath and sounding annoyed.
"Speaking of your sister, do you know where she…" Kuwabara started to ask in concern, once he could speak, but quickly getting cut off.
"How in the world did you find out?! Did someone tell you!?" Hiei asks in a shocked and irritated way, glaring at Yusuke in particular.
"No one told me, I found out on my own." Kuwabara said with a frustrated sigh.
"Look, I get that you're mad that I know. But I really don't have time for this, I need to find…" Kuwabara started to add in a more desperate way, but once again getting cut off before he could finish.
"No, what you need to do is come with me and discuss what is going to be happening next." Hiei said in a surprisingly firm tone, grabbing hold tightly of one of Kuwabara's wrists.
Kuwabara was about to make an angry comment about how tightly Hiei was grabbing him, but stopped short of doing so because Yukina happened to walk out into the garden, but hadn't spotted him yet.
"Hiei, please go. Yukina is out here and she'll get upset if she…" Kuwabara started to say quietly to Hiei in whisper, as he tried to pull his wrist free, but stopping mid sentence and holding in a wince of pain as Hiei only gripped his wrist tighter.
"Hey, knock it off Hiei! You're going to break Kuwbara's wrist!" Yusuke chimed in, sounding surprisingly angry as he spoke.
Unfortunately for Kuwabara, who had been trying to keep this whole situation under wraps, before Hiei could comment, Yukina's eyes had immediately turned towards both him and Hiei, having heard Yusuke.
"Hiei, what are you doing to Kazuma?!" Yukina asked in a heavily concerned way as she rushed over to where they were standing.
"It's nothing you need to worry about Yukina, I'm fine." Kuwabara said in a reassuring way, earning a surprised look from Hiei who had been about to speak.
"The hell you are, Hiei has a death grip on your wrist!" Yusuke said in a frustrated way.
"Yusuke, I know you're trying to help… but I'm fine." Kuwabara said, trying desperately to hold in his annoyance with his oldest friend, but feeling so frustrated by the situation that he once again tried to pull himself free.
This time, however, he pulled so hard against Hiei's grip that he heard the sound of bones starting to crack; a sound that caused Hiei to actually let go.
"You asshole, did you seriously just break his wrist?!" Yusuke asked in a loud and angry way, glairing furiously at Hiei.
"I don't think it's broken, I'm pretty sure it's just cracked." Kuwabara said, trying to calm the situation but unable to help but wince as he rubbed his wrist.
"How can you be so calm about this, Kuwabara?! I get that you and Hiei have never had the best relationship but he literally just hurt you because you happen to know that Yukina is…" Yusuke started to say in a baffled way, though he stopped just short and bit his lip as he looked at Yukina in a panic.
"That I'm what, Yusuke?" Yukina asked in a clearly upset way.
"Kazuma, what do you know about me?" Yukina asked in a pleading tone when Yusuke stubbornly looked away from her.
"I… I'm sorry Yukina but it's not my place to tell you." Kuwabara forced himself to say, wanting to tell her but knowing that there had to be a reason why Hiei had yet to do so himself.
"Thank you." Hiei said suddenly to Kuwabara, actually sounding appreciative despite how he previously just had been acting not moments before.
"So you know too, Hiei? Well, I hope that hearing that Kazuma will keep whatever this secret makes you feel at least somewhat bad for having hurt him!" Yukina said to Hiei in a surprisingly angry way.
"Woah now, Yukina. There's no need to be so…" Kuzama started to say in a shocked way, as Hiei stared at Yukina in shock, though getting interrupted before he could finish.
"No need!? Hiei hurt you Kazuma!" Yukina said in a frustrated and concerned way.
"Also, while this is the first time you were injured because of it, this isn't the first time that Hiei has been rude to you. He may not realize it, but I've heard some of the mean things he's said to you in the past and I don't like it." Yukina added, angrily crossing her arms across her chest as she spoke.
"Yukina, I… I'm sorry if my comments in the past have upset you." Hiei said, sounding conflicted for a moment but then sounding legitimately apologetic.
"I'm not the one you need to apologize to, Kazuma is! However, since I doubt that's going to happen I think it might be best if I go back inside and calm down for a bit. As for you Kazuma, please ask Botan or Genki to heal your wrist before I get back." Yukina said first Hiei in an angry way, quickly wiping her eyes as they started to fill with tears and then speaking to Kuwabara before storming off back to Genki's mansion.
After what he had seen earlier Kuwabara's first instinct was to immediately start following Yukina, but as he had barely taken a step forward when he noticed Genki speed walking towards them and paused mid step out of fear.
"Yusuke, go around and tell everyone that the reunion party has been placed on hold for now. As for you two, you're both coming with me." Genki said first to Yusuke in a firm tone and then speaking to both Hiei and Kuwabara in a very no nonsense tone.
To Kuwabara's surprise, like himself, Hiei didn't bother to argue and followed the older woman inside. The two of them were led to a private room, and Genki silently gestured for them both to sit; not saying until they both compiled.
"So, which one of you wants to tell me what happened as I heal Kuwabara's wrist?" Genki asked somewhat bluntly as she sat closest to Kuwabara, who's wrist she gently took in her hands.
"Kuwabara very nonchalantly revealed that he knew about Yukina being my sister, I… I over reacted after hearing him refer to her as such." Hiei explained in a brief but surprisingly honest way.
"Before you say anything to him, I'm not that surprised that Hiei isn't happy that I know his secret." Kuwabara interjected as Genki was about to make what was probably a very sarcastic response.
"That does not excuse the fact that I cracked your wrist and upset Yukina in the process." Hiei said, speaking before Genki could do so; clearly knowing what the old woman was thinking without her saying so.
"Well that's a start I suppose. Now then, before I make you idiots both go apologize to Yukina for your behavior I have to admit I'm curious. How did you find out that Yukina is Hiei's sister?" Genki said to them both with a sigh, though then glancing at Kuwabara with a curious expression.
"I've been having weird visions lately, and in one of them I saw Hiei here actually telling Yukina that he's her brother; though that was after…." Kuwabara started to explain to Genki, though stopped as once again he found what he had seen at the bus stop enterig his head.
"After what Kuwabara?" Genki asked in an insistent way, seeing the look in Kuwbarra's eyes and not liking it.
"Sorry, but I need to cut this conversation short. If I'm right, Yukina is in danger and I need to hurry to help her before it's too late!" Kuwabara said, quickly getting to his feet and rushing out of the room before Hiei or Genki could stop him.
