When Myrtle is killed, Dumbledore suspects Tom Riddle is to blame after a Ravenclaw prefect shows him evidence Slytherin's monster is a basilisk. Unable to prove his theory, Dumbledore adopts Tom and brings him to Godric's Hollow for the summer with the hopes that either he, or a certain Ravenclaw prefect, can get the truth out of him. HPTN, AU beginning in GoF. It starts because Theo wants to annoy Draco, and expressing support for Harry Potter in the Triwizard Tournament is a way to do that. But it continues because Theo can see exactly how valuable Harry Potter is-no matter that everyone else seems content to ignore it.
