Far, far away on the other end of the galaxy, somewhere near the crystal star Crseih, a creature floated in the vast emptiness of space, alone.
It was alone in more ways than most beings could possibly imagine.
To begin with, space is vast, and not much life can be found in it, relatively speaking. A small creature unable to produce its own gravitational force could float in the great black void for tens or hundreds of thousands of years without ever touching another life form.
Which this one had.
And even if this creature had chanced to encounter a life form out there, that would have done little to assuage its loneliness. Not only was it not meant to live in this particular environment, it was not meant for this universe. It could not relate to any living being native to this place. Such things were barely comprehensible hivelings. None of them could assuage this creature's loneliness.
Only its mother could do that.
Its mother who, like the creature, had taken ripped from their native universe by a tear in the fabric of interdimensional hyperspace. Mother Cycsila had been stranded the a barren moon where that tear had been created, while the child, Waru, had been flung many lightyears away to the neighborhood of the crystal star.
The only thing to nurse Waru in its millennia of loneliness was the faint knowledge of its mother's survival, via a faint connection that spanned the void of this alien universe, a telepathic connection which they naturally shared.
Until that connection was sundered as, across the galaxy, Cycsila cried out in fear and rage before it perished in a conflagration of turbolaser fire.
Thus leaving Waru totally alone, floating through empty space near the crystal star.
Alone to stew in its emptiness and bitterness and rage.
And to wait.
Sooner or later, it would encounter a hiveling habitation. Whether a planet or a starship, that did not matter.
But it would happen.
And then Waru's vengeance would begin.
...THE END?
