The Boy with the Mysterious Eye
Chapter 4
"What is it, Boss?" Hikaru asked tiredly, answering his cell phone.
"It might me too late for this but… please come to my place as soon as possible. Tonight," Tamaki told him.
"You got it, Boss," Hikaru yawned, hanging up.
Tamaki called the others and they said the same thing. Kyoya picked up Haruhi as he was a little bit closer to her apartment.
"What's going on, senpai?" Haruhi asked, tiredly.
"I don't know, but Tamaki sounded serious and scared for some reason," Kyoya told her. They pulled into Tamaki's place around the same time the others did.
Getting out of their limos, they saw that Tamaki was waiting for them outside his house.
"What's going o-" Haruhi gasped once she saw the stone porch with a blood spot on it as soon as she got up there to Tamaki.
"A horse brought a very injured boy here. I could tell he was conscious until I got out here," Tamaki told them. "Come in."
"An injured boy?" Haruhi thought, entering Tamaki's house with the others. They followed Tamaki over to the medical wing of his house.
They stopped at a window. Looking in they could see the doctors at work. Haruhi looked at the boy they were helping.
"Lane!" she gasped.
"Huh? Wait, Haruhi… you know that kid?" Tamaki asked.
"Not very well, but he worked at that Mega Mart I usually go to – to get you guys your instant coffee," Haruhi told him. "He's nice but something told me that he doesn't like being around people much."
"When did you say that horse brought him here?" Hikaru asked.
"A few minutes before I called all of you," Tamaki told him. "Why does it feel like I have to be around him?"
"I don't know. Maybe you like him," Kyoya said with a smirk.
"What? No! No way!" Tamaki shouted as he blushed. After a while, one of the doctors came out while the others finished up.
"Young sir," said the doctor. Tamaki cleared his throat and calmed down. "How is he?"
"Well, aside from a broken leg, a broken arm, and large gashes all over his body, along with gunshot wounds and burn marks… he'll be alright now," said the doctor.
"Wait. Who would put a young boy like him through all that?" Mori asked.
"Beats me," said the doctor as he went back in the room.
Tamaki and the others couldn't find their voices. They looked back at the boy on the table, breathing through an oxygen mask.
Haruhi was hoping Lane would wake up soon. She was also hoping he'd tell them what all happened when he woke up.
However, it took a good week before Lane woke up. Once he did, he looked around, wondering where he was. Nothing looked familiar to him. He tried sitting up as a hand gently touched his shoulder.
"You need to rest." Lane looked to the side to see a doctor.
"Where… where am I?" Lane asked, laying back down.
"Young master Tamaki's mansion, sir," he told him.
"Who's Tamaki?"
"He should be home any minute." The front door opened and closed as someone came to the room.
"Tell me there's good news on the kid's condition," Tamaki said.
"And there he is. The kid's awake, master Tamaki," said the doctor.
"Really?" Haruhi asked rushing forward. She stood by the bedside. "Lane."
"Huh? Wait. Haruhi, was it?" Lane asked when he saw her.
"You remember me?" Haruhi asked.
"I was thinking the same thing." He tried sitting up again. "How long have I been here?"
"About a week," Honey told him, coming over.
"Huh? Okay, so I'm in a rich kid's mansion… the mare brought me to a rich kid's mansion. Okay, I get it. Must've been the closest place to take me since I was barely conscious then," Lane said, once he got fully sitting up. "Hm?" He looked at their uniforms. "Okay, so you guys go to Ouran High School then."
"You can tell just by the blazers?" Kaoru asked.
"The girls I used to live with wanted me to go there just because of something I don't want to say," Lane told them. He looked at the cast on his arm and leg once he got the blanket off. "I knew they were badly broken, but still. Those guys had to go as far as that?" he thought.
"Can I get you anything?" Haruhi asked.
"Haruhi!" Tamaki shouted.
"I knew it. You're a girl, right Haruhi," Lane said, looking at the ceiling.
"Uh, how did…" Hikaru was cut off.
"I can tell certain things. If you're keeping her gender a secret at school then I won't say a word about it," Lane said laying back down. He fell asleep but only faked it.
"Tamaki senpai?" Haruhi asked, seeing Tamaki looking at Lane's closed eyes for some reason. "What are you doing?"
"I thought I saw something. Something about his eyes being two different colors," Tamaki said. "Maybe I'm just seeing things. Let's give him some time to himself to heal up."
They hosts walk out of the room so Lane could have some quiet time to himself to rest up more. Lane opened his eyes to look at the ceiling again. "What… what am I supposed to do now?"
