Author's Notes:
I do not own Yu Yu Hakusho and am simply a fan of both the manga and the show.
Please note that this fanfiction is based on one that was originally posted all the way back in 2010 and was last updated in 2013, after reviewing my original work I decided to completely revamp the story and delete the original. If you enjoyed the original then I apologize, but hopefully those who read it will enjoy this version just as much.
Lots of telepathy used in this chapter, but at least you all get a brief introduction to my final original character for this fanfiction. Don't worry, Dezaro will be showing up in person soon enough; so look forward to that.
Chapter Five:
Though the trek back to Genki's manor would normally not have taken long for him especially, Hiei had decided to walk at Kuwabara's pace so as to not disturb his unconscious sister. The Human had clearly noticed him doing this and had been walking at a fairly steady pace, until suddenly he came to a complete stop.
"Kuwabara? Are you alright?" Hiei asked in a legitimately concerned tone as Kuwabara leaned against a nearby tree.
"Awe, you actually sound concerned about me." Kuwabara said with a semi sarcastic chuckle as he scrunched his eyes shut and kept his balance against the tree.
"Because I am. Listen, you and I haven't always gotten along but even I can acknowledge that what you did back there to try to help Yukina was admirable. Now answer the question." Hiei said with a sigh, though becoming more serious.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. I think I'm just about to have another vision is all." Kuwabara explained as he continued to brace himself against the tree with one hand and massaging his temples with the other as he continued to scrunch his eyes shut.
"You've mentioned these visions multiple times today. Do you have them often?" Hiei asked, tilting his head and looking at Kuwabara with a curious expression.
"I didn't used to, but they started to become more frequent. I was actually hoping that Genki might…" Kuwabara started to explain to Hiei, though falling silent as the vision he had been expecting hit him.
"Kuwabara? Hey, can you hear me?" Hiei as his Human companion went uncharacteristically silent.
When Hiei didn't receive a response his first instinct was to reach out to Kuwabara and shake him. Unfortunately for Hiei, he had only barely touched the Human's arm when suddenly he found his consciousness being pulled into the vision Kuwabara was seeing.
Hiei was somewhat startled to see a version of himself sitting next face to face with a very unhappy version of Genki, though for some reason he couldn't hear what she was saying. Quickly however, he noticed that the vision also showed an unconscious version of Kuwabara and realized that this was why he couldn't hear what Genki was saying.
"Wait, is that why I can never hear what people are saying when my vision shows me unconscious in it?" Kuwabara's disembodied voice said suddenly, causing Hiei to look around in hopes of spotting some version of the Human.
"It makes sense doesn't it? You wouldn't hear what people were saying if you were unconscious." Hiei thought back, hoping that Kuwabara could hear him.
"Yeah, I guess now that you bring it up; that does make sense." Kuwabara's inner voice said in a clearly embarrassed way.
"I don't suppose you can choose to end this vision anytime you want? It's strange seeing myself getting lectured and not hearing what's being said." Hiei's inner voice asked, feeling somewhat embarrassed as the vision continued.
"If I could then do you think we would still be…" Kuwabara's inner voice started to say with a frustrated sigh, when suddenly a new vision started to fade in.
"Well would you look at that, you got your wish." Kuwabara's inner voice added in a somewhat sarcastic but also pleased way to Hiei.
"Not exactly what I…" Hiei's inner voice started to say with a frustrated sigh but then stopped and stared in surprise at what he was seeing.
The vision showed himself sitting by Yukina's side, he could tell that she had just woken up and that they were talking about something. Suddenly, however, Hiei found himself feeling somewhat mortified as the vision version of Yukina started to cry and as the vision version of himself reached for her, so did the current version of himself.
"Wait, I remember this vision. This is the one that revealed to me that Yukina was your sister, though last time I saw it I could actually hear you talking to her about it." Kuwabara's inner voice said suddenly.
"I.. I reveal to her that I'm her brother?" Hiei's inner voice asked in a shocked way.
"According to this vision, yeah." Kuwabara's inner voice said in acknowledgement.
"Is it really that bad that she knows?" Kuwabara's inner voice added in a confused and legitimately curious way.
"I… I made an oath to the Demon that implanted my Jagan. In exchange for it, I swore that I would never reveal my identity to Yukina. I killed the Demon in question and before he passed he told me I could do as I like, but I still never planned to tell Yukina." Hiei's inner voice explained to Kuwabara.
"May I ask why? Don't you want her to know her brother is alive?" Kuwabara's inner voice asked in a curious but surprisingly gentle tone.
"Would you want to be my sibling, knowing everything I've done?" Hiei's inner asked in a somewhat irritated sounding way.
"Hiei, you and I can barely go five minutes without arguing. But you know something, it doesn't matter what I think. What matters is that Yukina is happy, and watch what happens next." Kuwabara's inner voice said in a surprisingly wise way.
Despite being somewhat annoyed by Kuwabara's sudden wisdom, Hiei begrudgingly did as the human suggested, only to find himself blushing as the vision version of Yukina hugged the vision version of himself.
"Can we go back to reality now?" Hiei's inner asked, knowing that he sounded embarrassed and wishing he could hide it like he normally would.
Unfortunately no, we cannot. If I don't only have just one, then my visions usually come in threes." Kuwabara's inner voice said with a sigh, as sure enough a third vision started up.
"Uh, well I recognize the Arctic, but who's that taller guy that is with him exactly?" Kuwabara asked Hiei as in this new vision the familiar white haired Arctic appeared and with him stood and man with spiked crimson red hair with black tips and who was wearing a long red and black trench coat, a dark grey undershirt, black pants, and black spiked boots.
"That's the Soul Defiler Dezaro, otherwise known as the Flash Fire Soul Defiler. He's a Fox Demon that was forcibly turned into a Soul Defiler at the age of ten and was taken in Arctic's first apprentice. Also, as I'm sure you figured out from Karasu implying as much, he's a bit different for a Soul Defiler." Hiei's inner voice explained.
"Yeah I can see that, I mean he's openly smiling for goodness sake. I thought that Soul Defilers weren't supposed to feel emotions." Kuwabara's voice said with a somewhat baffled tone as the vision version of Dezaro was smiling and clearly saying something to Artic.
"They're not, but Dezaro has always been different and Arctic has never tried to change that apparently. Which is what ultimately led to the failed coup against him and both he and Dezaro having to switch bodies." Hiei's inner voice explained with a sigh.
"Wait, hold on. Are you saying that Arctic and Dezaro aren't in their original bodies?" Kuwabara's voice asked, completely ignoring the figures in his vision because he was now intrigued by what Hiei had said.
"I don't know the full story, nor do I have patients to explain any more of what I do know. I just want to get back to reality so we can get back to Genki's place." Hiei's inner voice said with a heavy sigh, wishing he had never been pulled into these visions in the first place.
"Well luckily for you, it seems like you're about to get what you want." Kuwabara's inner voice said as the vision started to fade to black.
To Hiei's great relief, it turned out that Kuwabara was correct and they were both thrust back into reality. Though, despite this, Hiei couldn't help but notice that Kuwabara still didn't look well.
"Let's get going. Even if I wasn't carrying Yukina, there's no way I can drag your tall ass back to Genki's manor." Hiei said in an insistent way as Kuwabara pushed off from the tree but briefly wobbled on his feet.
"Yeah, that… that's probably a good idea." Kuwabara said in an extremely tired sounding tone, though he started to willingly walk again.
Hiei could only watch for a moment and try to pretend he wasn't concerned about the Human, very quickly, however, he followed behind and hoped that the Human would actually make it.
Thankfully, Kuwabara was able to make it to the closest door that led inside to the manor. As the human slowly opened the door and the two of them went inside, however, there was no response from him as everyone rushed up to them.
"Kurama and Urameshi, you might want to get ready to…" Hiei started to say to the tallest of his two of his companions about Kuwabara, when he was interrupted as sure enough Kuwabara started to collapse.
Thankfully for Kuwabara, Kurama had seemed to know what Hiei had been about to say and caught the unconscious human before he hit the ground. Unfortunately for Kurama, at 6'3" Kuwabara was still tall enough that he had to brace from falling over with the unconscious young man.
"Well don't just stand there Yusuke, help him!" Keiko said, smacking Yusuke in an indignant way when he didn't immediately rush to Kurama's aid and was clearly holding back a chuckle as the long crimson haired man struggled to hold Kuwabar up.
"Right, sorry. I'm coming, Kurama." Yusuke said with a snicker as he quickly went over to the unconscious Kuwabara and lifted his unconscious friend by the legs.
"Not exactly how I planned to carry him, but I guess it'll do." Kurama said with a sigh.
"There's a room nearby you can take him to. I'll open the door for you both." Genki said with a slight sigh as she signaled for Kurama and Yusuke to follow her.
"I"ll come too, I plan on grilling my brother for information once he wakes up." Shizuru said, trying to sound irritated but clearly feeling concerned about her younger brother.
"Why wait, I'm sure that Hiei would love to tell everyone what happened." Genki said in a tone that immediately led to Hiei knowing that she wasn't really asking.
"Let me take Yukina to her room, I'll meet up with you afterwards." Hiei said in a somewhat pleading tone, knowing there was no escaping the inevitable but also wanting to set Yukina down.
"You have five minutes. I have a feeling that there's a lot you need to tell us." Genki said with a smile that caused a chill to come over Hiei.
"Five minutes is all I need, old woman. Now go help Kurama and Urameshi open the damn door to the room you're putting Kuwabara in, I'll meet you back out here." Hiei said, trying to pretend to be annoyed but also quickly making his way past the old psychic with his unconscious sister before the old woman could comment.
