Chapter 12

Past Events

Poketopia, Jungle District

While the team was in the cable carts, they were quiet, with a hit of sadness in the air. "Thank you." Judy said to Nick, breaking the silence. "Never let them see that they get to you." Nick said to everyone, sounding kinda down.

"So… things do get to you?" Judy asked Nick. "No, I mean, not anymore, but I was small and emotionally unbalanced like you once." Nick said to Judy. "Har-har." Judy said to Nick, forcing a laugh.

"No. It's true. I think I was 8, or maybe 9 and all I wanted to do was join the Junior Ranger Scouts." Nick said to everyone.

The Past

In the past, when Nick was a Nickit, his mother was helping him put a scout uniform on, "So my mom scraped together enough money to buy me a brand-new uniform because, by Arceus, I was gonna fit in. Even if I was the only dark type in the troop. The only Nickit. I was gonna be part of a pack." Nick said to everyone in the present, as his past self ran into a basement where the scouts were meeting.

"Okay, Nick. Ready for initiation?" A Morelull asked Nick, as Nick saw a Hippopotas, Mudbray, Blitzle, and a Girafarig with the Merlull, all of them wearing scout uniforms.

"Yeah. Pretty much born ready." Past Nick said to the Morelull, walking proudly towards everyone.

"I was so proud." Nick said to everyone in the present, as his past self gave everyone a high five.

Then the lights turned off, and the Morelull started to shine. "Okay. Now, raise your right paw and deliver the oath." The Morelull said to Nick. "I, Nicholas Wilde, promise to be brave, loyal, helpful, and trustworthy." Nick said to the Morelull, holding up his right paw.

"Even though you're a dark type?" The Morelull asked Nick, giving him a mean look. "What?" Nick asked, a shock look on his face.

That's when the lights went out. That's when Nick started to be pushed around. "No. No! What did I do wrong, you guys? No, please! Tell me! What did I do wrong? What did I do?" Nick asked everyone, before the other Pokemon started to pull out flashlights, and firing beams of light into his eyes.

"No…" Nick said, as his eyes started to hurt from all the light. "If you thought we would ever trust a dark type without some lights. You're even dumber than you look!" The Morlull said to Nick.

This caused Nick to run out of the place, and once he was safe, he started to rub his eyes, before he started to cry.

Poketopia, Jungle District

Back in the present, Judy, Kipo and Kalena gave Nick a very sad/worried look. "I learned two things that day. One… I was never gonna let anyone see that they got to me." Nick said to everyone, not looking at them. "And two?" Judy asked Nick.

"If the world's only gonna see a Thievul as shifty and untrustworthy there's no point in trying to make anything else." Nick said to everyone, as the sun started to rise. "Nick, you are so much more than that." Judy said to Nick, putting a hand on his paw.

"Yeah. And who cares what Pokemon think, you just have to show them who you really are." Kipo said to Nick. "And we're sorry for being mean to you all this time." Kalena said to Nick.

Seeing the girls being nice to him, made Nick feel awkward. "Boy, look at that traffic down there. How about we go out to Chuck in Traffic Center. Chuck, how are things looking on the Jam Cams?" Nick said, acting like he was a new reporter.

"Nick, I'm glad you told me." Judy said to Judy. "We all are." Kipo said to Nick. "The Jam Cams." Nick said, having an idea. "Seriously. It's okay." Judy said to Nick.

"No, no, no. There are traffic cameras everywhere! All over the canopy! Whatever happened to that Liepard…" Nick said to everyone, pointing to all the cameras all over the place, causing everyone to figure out what Nick was thinking.

"The traffic cams would have caught it!" Judy said to Nick. "Bingo!" Nick said to Judy. "Ho-ho! Pretty sneaky, slick!" Judy said to Nick, punching Nick in the shoulder. "Yeah, that's good thinking Nick." Kalena said to Nick, slapping Nick in the back.

"Maybe. But if you didn't have access to the system before I doubt Chief Bouffalant Butt is gonna let you into it now." Nick said to everyone. "No." Judy said to everyone. "Do we have any friends that can help us?" Kipo asked everyone, giving Judy an idea. "I have a friend at City Hall who might." Judy said to everyone.

Poketopia, City Center

At City Hall, Bellwether was following Blazeheart, using her Psychic powers to hold a lot of very thick folders. "Sir, if you could just review these very important…" Bellwether said to Blazeheart, before losing her psychic grip on the folders.

"Sir…" Bellwether said to Blazeheart, before almost crashing into a Whimsicott. "I'm so sorry." Bellwether said to the Whimsicott, as the Whimsicott floated away with an annoyed look on its face.

"Sir!" Bellwether said to Blazeheart. "Okay. I heard you, Bellwether. Just take care of it." Blazeheart said to Bellwether, getting annoyed with her, and slamming another folder into her chest. "Please. And clear my afternoon. I'm going out." Blazeheart said to Bellwether, sounding normal, before walking into his office.

"No, no! But, sir, you do have a meeting with Herds and Grazing. Sir, if I could just…" Bellwether said, as she ran after Blazeheart, but only got the door slammed into her face, making her drop all the folders. "Oh, Sour Curry." Bellwether said, before she started to clean up the mess.

While cleaning up the mess, Judy, Nick, Kipo, and Kalena walked up to her, getting Bellwether's attention. "Assistant Mayor Bellwether? We need your help." Judy said to Bellwether.

Bellwether then led everyone to her office, which was really just a very tiny filing closet in the back of city hall.

"We just need to get into the traffic cam database." Judy said to Bellwether, as Bellwether started to dig around in the city systems.

While Bellwether was working, Nick got bored, and decided to pet Bellwether. "So Fluffy!" Nick quietly said to everyone, a big smile on his face. "Hey!" Judy quietly said to Nick, getting annoyed with him.

"Sheep like Pokemon never let me get this close." Nick quietly said to everyone. "You can't just touch a Pokemon fur without permission!" Judy quietly said to Nick.

"It's like cotton candy." Nick quietly said to everyone. "Stop it!" Judy quietly said to Nick, slapping his paw.

"Where to?" Bellwether asked everyone, not noticing what Nick was doing. This caused Judy to panic a little, before regaining her focus. "Uh, Jungle District, Vine and Tujunga." Judy said to Bellwether, as Bellwether focused on that area.

"There! Traffic cams for the whole city." Bellwether said to everyone, showing everyone the screen. "Oh, this is so exciting, actually! I never get to do anything this important." Bellwether said to everyone, sounding excited and happy.

"But you're the Assistant Mayor of Poketopia." Judy said to Bellwether, finding that it's hard for her to believe that she never did anything important. "Oh, I'm more of a glorified secretary. I think Mayor Blazeheart just wanted the Psychic Type vote." Bellwether said to everyone.

"That's depressing." Kalena said to Bellwether. "But he did give me that nice mug." Bellwether said to everyone, pointing to a mug on her desk full of pens that said world's greatest dad, but dad was scratched out by a red marker and wrote Assistant Mayor. "Oh." Kalena said, feeling more depressed looking at the mug.

"Hmm. Feels good to be appreciated." Bellwether said to everyone, looking at the mug with a loving smile on her face. "This is getting really depressing." Kalena quietly said to Kipo.

"Smell-weather!" Blazeheart said to Bellweather over her office phone. "Smell-weather?" Kipo asked Bellwether.

"Ugh. That's a fun little name he likes to use. I called him Blaze-fart once. He did not care for that. Let me tell you it was not a good day for me." Bellwether said to everyone, before answering her phone.

"Yes, sir?" Bellwether asked Blazeheart. "I thought you were going to cancel my afternoon!" Blazeheart said Bellwether. "Oh, dear. I better go. Let me know what you find. It was really nice for me to be…" Bellwether said to everyone, as she started to leave, but stopped to look at everyone, but was interrupted.

"While we're young Smell-weather!" Blazeheart said to Bellwether, making Bellwether leave in a panic.

"You think when she goes to sleep she counts herself?" Nick asked everyone. "I would prefer that over the idea of her crying to sleep." Kalena said to Nick. "Everyone, focus." Judy said to everyone, as she took Bellwether's chair.

"Okay, traffic cams. Tujunga, Tujunga… We're in." Judy said to everyone, as they watched the video of everything that happened to them during the chase.

But after the part where Kalena let go of the vine, a black van pulled up, and a few Mightyenas came out of it. "Who are these guys?" Judy asked everyone.

"Ugh Mightyenas. Look at these dumb-dumbs." Nick said to everyone, as they watched one of the Mightyenas fire a net at Manches, catching him, then the next let out a surge of electricity that knocked Manches out.

"At least we now know who took Manches." Kalena said to everyone, as they watched the Mightyenas drag Manches away, while talking to each other. "What are they talking about?" Kipo asked everyone.

"No idea. But I bet you a nickel one of them is gonna howl." Nick said to everyone, before the Mightyenas started to howl. "And there it is. What is it with Mightyenas and the howling? It's like…" Nick said to everyone, but was interrupted by Judy.

"Howlers. Night Howlers. That's what Manchas was afraid of! Mightyenas! The Mightyenas are the Night Howlers." Judy said to everyone. "That would explain a few things." Kipo said to everyone.

"And if they took Manches…" Judy said to everyone, but was interrupted by Nick. "l'll bet they took Gumshooston, too." Nick said to everyone.

"All we gotta do is find out where they went." Judy said to everyone, as they used the camera to follow the van. And as the van went into the tunnel to Tundratown, a cab came up behind it. But on the other side of the tunnel, only the cab came out.

"Wait, isn't that the car behind the Night Howlers? Where did they go?" Judy asked everyone. "Good question?" Kipo asked Judy.

"You know, if I wanted to avoid surveillance because I was doing something illegal, which I never have." Nick said to everyone, taking the camera controls from Judy, while everyone gave Nick a smudged looked

"I would use the maintenance tunnel 6B. Which would put them out… Right there." Nick said to everyone, flipping through the cameras, and found the Van.

"Well, look at you, Junior Detective." Judy said to Nick, impressed. "Yeah, very nice work Nick." Kipo said to Nick. "You know, I think you'd actually make a pretty good cop." Judy said to Nick. "Ugh. How dare you." Nick said to Judy, smirking, making the girls giggle a little.

"Acacia Alley? Ficis Underpass. South Canyon." Nick said to everyone, flipping through the cameras. "Mmm-hmm. They're heading out of town." Judy said to everyone, as they watched the van go down a road by a river. "Where does that rode go?" Judy asked everyone.

"The cameras stop here, looks like we'll have to figure out the old fashion way. Let's go." Kipo said to everyone, as Judy turned off Bellwether's computer, and all of them went to see where the Mightyenas took everyone.
