Short Version

It was an office. Cold and grey. The sound of a phone ringing and fluorescent lighting buzzing in the background as a tray of food slid into view.

The brightly colored packaging was practically glowing. The cardboard box opened to show off the golden McNuggets.

The words: New and improved Impossible Nuggets! Now at McDonald's!

A voice quitely said, "Ma I ereh."

Long Version

"News Flash!" Blipped on screen a couple of times. A well-dressed woman with blonde hair sat at a silver table.

The woman spoke, "I'm Karen Dreary, coming at you with the latest news! Killer Clowns!"

A scary-looking clown appeared beside her head. "You heard that right, folks! Bozo has gone bazerk in droves! The nation is rocked by unidentified individuals dressing up as clowns and brutally stabbing victims to death."

Another picture appeared, replacing the scary clown with the picture of a crime scene. Karen then explained, "In other news, The remake of Stephen King's It breaks the box office! Capturing the new coulrophobia that has gripped the nation! Over $664.2 Million made overnight!"

A picture of Pennywise appeared to replace the crime scene photos. Karens then said, "One question remains, what will become of beloved hamburger slinging Clown mascot Ronald McDonald?"

A pause logo appeared, and we pulled into a meeting room, with the paused news cast on screen. A man in a suit stared down the out-of-place colorful Ronald with a mix of cold indifference and greedy rage.

The man in a suit said, "What will happen to Ronald McDonald indeed?"

Ronald tried to say something, anything, but the man in the suit was quicker, "You're fired, as a mascot, that's what's going to happen. You have no place in this world or your Mcdonaldsland. You're still going to be head of marketing, but no more of this clown and magic stuff, understand?"

Ronald sighed, "Yes, sir."

Two big security guards escorted him away to another room. He was hosed down until his grease-paint face and red hair dye melted off. He dried himself off. Then he was given a grey suit with regular black shoes. He took off his colorful clown costume and got into his new momochrome business suit. When it was all said and done, Ronald was unrecognizable. His face was sullen, tears misting his eyes.

The years whizzed by. He was so drained and so miserable behind that corporate desk. Just doing what he could to keep his friends happy despite not being there in person anymore.

The world seemed to move on without him. No one seemed to notice he was gone. But then he felt it, a surge of his old magic pulsed into his being every day. It was small at first, just a tiny spark like getting a static shock from a doorknob. Then it started to grow, more and more powerfully, like he was given a jolt of whimsy. It was snowballing out of his hands. On time, it was so strong he was practically struck by lightning!

The aftermath of which left his heart beating out of his chest, tears in his eyes, and a small smile creeping on his face. "What the hell is happening to me?"

He then spotted a tray of McNuggets on his desk. He wasn't even sure where it came from, but he didn't hesitate to eat it and said, "Oh, this must be the new product. It tastes good!"

He finished his meal gratefully, and the magic surges stopped.

For now~
