Felix had this deep voice and sexy Australian accent. It didn't match his face at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or anything. It was just a shock. We'd been chatting back and forth through MeetCute DMs, but this was the first time hearing each other's voice. My voice is a little bit on the deeper side when I'm talking, but when I sing and rap it takes on a lighter tone. I'm not sure how I do it; it just happens naturally. But Felix's voice? Sing me a lullaby, daddy.
I'm not sure what my face was doing, but it was obviously doing something, since it made Felix's face do something. His eyebrows furrowed for a moment before his face relaxed into a lighthearted laugh. "I've been told I have that affect on people."
I could feel my face growing hot as I rubbed the back of my neck. I felt like the unsuspecting girl in a rom-com. I chuckled nervously and gestured to Felix's chair. "Um, take a seat?"
Felix laughed again as he sat down. My stomach twisted itself in a knot over his rich, deep voice and smooth accent. We waited for a few minutes, then a waitress came by. She had her long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail. The uniform here was light blue button ups and jeans. Her nametag read "Alyssa =-)" and right below that was another pin of a pride flag. I smiled bigger at that.
"Hi, what can I get for you two today?" Alyssa asked in a cheerful voice.
I looked at the menu, even though I had arrived severely early and read over the menu about five times while waiting. "I'll have the cheesecake and a small mocha, please."
"And I'll have the same," Felix said.
I looked up at him, eyes wide. "You like cheesecake, too?"
Felix's ears took on a pink tinge to them. "Well, I just remembered that on your profile you said cheesecake was your favourite, so I thought I'd just get one as well and if I can't finish it I'll give the rest to you."
I couldn't refrain the smile that spread across my entire face. Then Alyssa leaned in and whispered to me.
"Are you two on a date?" She asked.
"Oh, um, uh, yeah," I said maybe a bit too loudly. I winced and then whispered "yeah."
Alyssa giggled at my sheepishness. "I'll be right back with your orders." She righted herself and headed back inside the cafe.
I didn't really know what to do or say, so I shifted my weight awkwardly, then scooted my chair in closer to the table. "So, um. What's your favourite dessert?"
"Brownies." Felix answered immediately with no hesitation or confliction in his voice. The sureness wasn't so much startling as the seriousness. The lightheartedness that was in his face earlier was now long gone. I've never seen someone so serious about brownies.
"Brownies?"
"Brownies."
Brownies.
Brownies
