"Weak people aren't enough for Ais."
Those words kept spinning in Bell Cranel's mind, who only thought about continuing to destroy monsters to become stronger, which he was doing at that moment.
He had heard many times that he shouldn't let words demoralize him, but he couldn't help it! He was going to prove to everyone that he was made to be an adventurer. He wasn't working so hard to give up now, especially not when it came to the Familia to which Ais belonged.
Maybe he was obsessed? A little, but he didn't care. He was going to do everything within his power, no matter who it was.
Or at least that was the idea in his mind.
He was on the sixth floor of the dungeon, quite exhausted, but nothing he couldn't handle at this point.
Unaware of the danger around him, he ended up venturing further, only to see two figures taller than him, a kind of completely black silhouette… They were war shadows. He felt anxious about what might happen for better or worse, especially because he had a lot to prove, or at least that's how he felt in his heart. He drew his weapon and launched himself at them; staying still to think of a strategy was not an option they would give him.
There was something strange in the atmosphere… and he wasn't sure if he could attribute it to the monsters: no, it was something else, as if there was a superior magical power… Was it coming from the shadows? Although Bell wasn't the most skilled in that field, he could determine that it wasn't… But how could he be so sure?
"Heyyyyy!" a voice called out from afar, making the boy alert. Was there someone else in the dungeon? "Let me help you!"
"Huh?" Distracted, Bell was almost intercepted by one of the shadows, but he dodged it seconds later. He refocused on his fight, because if he started looking for the source of that voice, he could be caught off guard again. "I don't know who you are, but I'm really busy right now!"
"That's exactly why I want to help you, don't you think?" It seemed like the voice of a girl… He couldn't identify much more due to the echo, but Bell didn't feel that he needed any kind of help, especially with what that would imply. He had already been humiliated enough by the Loki Familia a while ago; right now, he needed to prove what he was made of and what he was capable of doing.
"Thanks, but I'll get you out of here as soon as I'm done with this; it's too dangerous."
"You're very stubborn," just what his mom had told him, but it was best not to mention anything about this. Instead, still hidden in the shadows, Campanella decided to demonstrate what she wanted to do.
A light was seen in the depths of the dungeon. Bell didn't hear the chant being recited, but he was aware of its results: in no time, his whole body began to glow due to some sort of magic… and he felt stronger than he had ever felt before: his body was light, and the power accumulated in his arms was more than what he had worked so hard to gain.
He didn't think too much, and in that way, using his knife, with just a couple of strikes, he defeated both war shadows… He never thought something like this was possible, in fact, he had to make sure it wasn't a dream.
He blinked several times… Of course, that also made his stats improve, even doubling the usual! And that was saying a lot since his weapon already fulfilled that function.
Bell didn't know how to feel… On the one hand, it had been very gratifying to have that kind of power, but on the other hand, he didn't want to pay a high price for that help, knowing how the people around him were…
"Hey… Come out from wherever you are, I appreciate the support, but I wasn't asking for it. You could have gotten yourself seriously hurt, and I couldn't forgive myself for something like that," he really didn't want to sound ungrateful, but after everything he had experienced, he preferred to clarify the situation before another person felt entitled over him.
"Hmph! You should watch your words, but it's okay, I'll allow it this time."
Bell then noticed how a shadow began to approach him, at first, it was quite long, but as time passed, it became smaller and smaller. Finally, before him appeared… the figure of a little girl, her ears revealing that she was some kind of elf.
Definitely, that "bigger" voice effect must have been caused by the dungeon's echo, and he wasn't exactly the best person to guess someone's age. How old could she be? Less than eight? He could only notice that she was small and very cute, with long white hair and jade-colored eyes, and in her hands, she held what looked like an umbrella. He couldn't sense any kind of ill intent emanating from her… Maybe he was just being swayed by her sweet appearance after all.
But, if she wanted something, she would have attacked by now, wouldn't she? Besides, she had just helped him moments ago… and he was more interested in knowing how she did it.
"Hey, are you here alone? How did you do that?" Bell asked, looking around. The girl just managed to giggle softly.
"Yes, I'm alone. I created magic with this," the girl responded, raising her umbrella with one hand. "This is my special weapon, but we should leave here first, don't you think?"
"Yes… yes!" exclaimed Bell, feeling a bit foolish. He had already achieved his objective somehow, so it would be best to go to a safe place.
Flashback
"What is Daddy like?" A small girl once asked her mother, who only smiled nostalgically.
"Well… Daddy was… is a great man, a bit stubborn, but he always achieved what he set out to do," her mother replied, cradling her in her arms. "Very charming, so much so that he didn't even realice to what extent he could be. He never gave up until he got what he wanted, for better or worse."
"So… was he brave?"
"Yes, the bravest of all, to be honest."
Flashback End
Now she could better understand what her mother meant.
Bell took the girl by the hand before leading her out of that place. Once outside, he realized he hadn't introduced himself.
"I'm really sorry, I think I've been rude to you… My name is Bell Cranel."
"I know! I am…"
"Beeeelllllll!" A black-haired girl threw herself on top of the boy, almost knocking him to the ground. Campanella covered her lips with both hands but soon recognized the woman… Her goddess. She looked so different… but so the same at the same time. "How could you leave like that? You had me worried sick! You never listen to me!"
"I'm really sorry… I didn't think things through, but look! Everything turned out fine! And I even brought someone with me!" Hearing this, Hestia squinted… And only then did she become aware of the presence of the girl. She was a little startled, standing up straight, as she didn't want her image as a goddess to be ruined by a tantrum. Then, she smiled.
"I'm so sorry you had to see that, hehe… But it doesn't matter! What's your name, little one?" the goddess asked, trying to appear calmer.
"Um… um… I mean! I'm Campanella Ljos Alf Cranel," she finally explained, clasping her hands into fists, her eyes wide… She was an incredibly adorable child. In fact, Hestia felt an urge to hug her, though she also… reminded her of someone. Who could it be? "I… I've come to help you!"
"Oh, did you hear that? She came to help us!" And with that, she finally hugged her, causing the girl's cheeks to blush a little. Hestia… It seemed she was the same no matter the time in which one found her. "You're so cute! Which Familia do you belong to? Are you lost?"
"No! I've come from the future to help you," both Bell and Hestia looked at each other. They were both… a little surprised. At the same time, they didn't want to hurt the girl's feelings, but what she was saying was hard to believe, to say the least.
"From the future? Would you like to explain more about that to us?"
Hestia stopped hugging her so that the girl could better explain herself. Campanella started to think… Well, she had already begun her story; maybe it would be best to continue, but should she tell him that Bell was her father? What would he do about it? What if he then didn't want to associate with her mommy?
"My family… is in grave danger," well, that much was true at least. "That's why I've come from the future to help you… I brought this weapon with me, and I've trained a lot to be able to use its magic," then, she extended her hand, showing both of them the umbrella she had brought with her: it was quite curious, and without waiting for a response, Hestia began to analyze it from a distance.
"Hmm… This is the first time I've seen a weapon like this. I admit it's very beautiful, it suits you very well," then she leaned in a bit closer, focusing her gaze and immediately noticing its enormous magical power, even though it was resting at the moment. "Could you tell us how it works?"
"Yes! Well… I could give you a demonstration," the truth was, Campanella had no intention of hiding anything from them. However, she truly wanted to see what they were capable of, after all, she always remembered her mother's talks about her father:
"Your father always found a way to surprise everyone: no one understood how he could become stronger and stronger, just by fighting."
"That's thanks to me!" exclaimed an older Hestia, but still proud of the decisions she had made. "But it also had a lot to do with his determination… Sometimes he didn't even listen to me and ended up doing what he wanted. I scolded him many times, but I think in the end, it was worth it…" However, as she said that, and remembered everything that had happened, she couldn't help but feel sad. Riveria then touched her shoulder to prevent her from getting discouraged, though she felt just as sad about it. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the story or the mood…"
"It's okay, I feel the same way. Sometimes I think he was an idiot, and sometimes… I miss him a lot." It was rare to see Riveria being so open and honest about her feelings, but Campanella liked that honesty, it made her feel closer to her father, even if she couldn't meet him or have memories with him.
"Then he never gave up… I want to become very strong like him too!"
"You're going to be even stronger, in time," her mother replied, lifting her into her arms and placing a kiss on her forehead. It wasn't her intention to train her tirelessly to the point of exhaustion, but she did want her to be capable of defending herself in a hostile world, with creatures that would have no mercy on her just because she was a child…
That thought brought her back to the present.
"Hey, are you okay?" Hestia asked, touching her cheek. Campanella then realized she had gotten lost in her thoughts and began nodding up and down.
"Y-Yes! Well, my offer still stands, so…"
"We'd love to," Bell exclaimed, stepping closer to stroke her hair. The girl smiled from ear to ear, her cheeks tinged with a light shade of pink. Bell thought she was very cute… and she reminded him a lot of someone, but who could it be? "However, I think we should eat a little first, don't you think? We just got out of that dungeon, and you need to rest too."
"But…" Campanella was about to protest when, at the mention of food, her stomach began to growl. Her blush this time turned even more intense. How embarrassing! Though… it had been a while since she last ate, so she shouldn't be surprised. Both Hestia and Bell couldn't help but laugh.
"Well, I don't think we need to discuss this any further. We'll go get something to eat!" Then Hestia felt a bit embarrassed, scratching her neck. "Although we don't have too much… I'm a little embarrassed for the girl."
"I'm sure we can have something decent for ourselves," Bell rectified under the judging gaze of his poor goddess. It didn't really matter to Campanella, she ate everything, and besides… what interested her the most at that moment was the company she had, and, definitely, that was the best part of the matter.
She returned with them, finding that they lived in a very modest place, but she already knew that. They served her some meat, rice, and plenty of vegetables. Campanella didn't hesitate to start eating as if she hadn't done so in a long time… The truth was, she was indeed very hungry, and both Bell and Hestia couldn't help but feel moved.
"You eat very well! That's how it should be, so you can grow big," Hestia confirmed, nodding and trying to resist the urge to hug the girl tightly.
"Yes… It makes me hungry just watching you eat," Bell confirmed as well, while eating from his own plate. It was evident how both seemed to eat at the same speed and rhythm, the only difference being the amount, but that had more to do with the fact that Campanella was a child than anything else.
Hestia felt very pleased, so she just kept watching them both. "It's so nice to see you two eating with such enthusiasm. Do you think it tastes good, Campanella?"
"Yes! It's exactly what I wanted and more," the girl replied with a smile.
"And you're not going to ask me?" Bell joked, while his goddess turned her head and shrugged her shoulders.
"You're not the guest here, plus, you'd better eat well if you don't want to get stranded. By the way, don't think I've forgotten that you disobeyed me! I was very worried while you were on your foolish mission… I thought many things could happen to you. I understand that you want to be a hero, Bell, and you have my support, but you can't be so impulsive, especially when you're alone…"
"Nothing happened… But you're right, I'm really sorry, I didn't want to worry you," the boy said, lowering his head. "Besides, I've set a terrible example for Campanella, haven't I? I'm so glad she was there."
"I did what I could," the girl responded, her cheeks slightly red. "There are many things you need to be careful about… Enemies who don't like it when you level up because you're a threat to them." Upon hearing the girl's words, both Bell and Hestia looked at each other. Who could be involved? If everything he usually faced were just mockeries that he wasn't enough. "Besides… as your daughter, I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you."
"Daughter?" Bell almost choked on his food, and Hestia just widened her eyes.
There, the girl began to explain that she was his daughter from the future, completely omitting the detail of who her mother was, fearing it might cause a change in her own story. However, she promised that she would reveal more about it as time went on.
Bell found it very difficult to believe… But he could see much of himself in her, so he didn't think it was a complete madness after all. He had never imagined himself as a father, to be honest, but the idea didn't bother him, especially not when his daughter turned out to be so adorable.
"I know your father is me when I'm older, but… for now, it would be good if I also acted as such, don't you think?" Bell's sense of responsibility was very strong after all. "So I'll take care of you with all my heart."
"Me too! From now on, you'll be my little protégé, just like your father… That sounds so strange," Hestia commented, taking her hands in hers.
"Thank you very much… Truly, great enemies await us. We should avoid drawing the attention of Evilus… That's why you shouldn't do risky things… and also pay more attention to your goddess."
"This girl is a charm, she's staying," Hestia replied, this time not holding back her desire to hug her. "She's so wise!"
"Or maybe you're just happy that someone is agreeing with you?" Bell asked as he watched his goddess stick her tongue out for just a second.
"Listening to your goddess is wisdom! By the way, would you like more food, Campanella?"
"N-No, I'm fine, thank you," the girl replied, feeling like she could roll away at any moment. It might not be the most luxurious meal in the world, but that didn't matter to her. "Will you let me show you what I can do?"
"Wow, how impatient," Hestia responded with a laugh. "We won't do that today: you two need to recover from your adventure. There's no need to wear yourselves out… I'm watching you, Bell," the goddess added, making her protector raise his hands in a sign of peace. "I'll be watching over you both tonight!"
While he sighed, Campanella giggled a little… Hestia was exactly as she remembered. Maybe because she was a goddess? Although seeing her now made her feel a certain peace in her heart.
Which made her wonder… Would her mommy be the same too? Their cases were very different…
She decided not to ask any questions: something in her heart told her that sooner or later she would end up seeing her, so she just needed to be patient.
That night, Hestia asked her to sleep by her side. Campanella agreed, as this was something she already did at home sometimes. The goddess braided her hair, and again it felt as if nothing had changed… Even though she knew it had.
Was her mother okay? The others? They knew they had sent her here in a desperate attempt to make things right, and she would try her best to improve it, but she couldn't help thinking about what she had left behind.
The other question was how she would eventually return home, though, if she changed the past, would her home exist? What would become of her then?
"Hey, are you okay?" Hestia asked, worried when she saw the little one with a lost look. She shook her head, shaking it side to side.
"Yes! I think I just… got lost in my thoughts."
"Hmm, I see. Were you thinking about your mother?" The girl trembled a little when she heard her, while the goddess smiled. "I'm very smart, yes, but it's not hard to deduce, a little girl is always going to miss her mother."
"Yes… Well, even though I miss her, there are still things I have to do, so I'll be patient," she didn't even know where she got the strength to say that, but immediately after, she hugged the older woman, feeling her stroke her now-braided hair. "I want to show them that I can do it… and that everyone is proud of me."
"I'm sure anyone would be proud of such a strong girl, even before you arrived," the goddess expressed, smiling at her even though she couldn't see it. "So don't worry too much about that, okay? I know it's easier said than done, but after you helped my Bell today, you have all the support I can give you. You're my Campanella now."
"Thank you very much," that reassured her a lot. The truth was, she knew what her goddess was capable of, in fact, she was an essential part of her having a special weapon… So for now, it would be best to calm down a bit.
A little while later, both fell asleep. Campanella had felt very safe in that place, plus, she hadn't realized how tired she was… She definitely needed to sleep. Even so, in the middle of her dreams, her eyes watered a bit as she remembered her mother.
She knew she would find her here too, but that didn't mean… that she wasn't a little scared. She was still a little girl, after all.
She would continue to be brave for her! But now that she was in the arms of her goddess, and also in that small house… She could allow herself to be fragile for a while, after all, her enemy wasn't there, was he?
That night, she dreamed that the one who had braided the hair she had fallen asleep with had been her mother, and she even had a conversation with her.
"Did you meet him?" She knew exactly who her mother was referring to.
"Yes! We haven't talked much yet, but he's very brave… and stubborn."
"Indeed, that's him," her mother commented, laughing softly. "You can learn many things from him. I'm sure he won't refuse to teach you, so you must listen to him carefully, and also try to help him when he needs it."
"I'm trying… but I feel like he doesn't want my help."
"It's not that he doesn't want it, it's that you're a little girl, so he won't want to put you in danger, but that's where you'll have to prove what you're made of," her mother then left a kiss on her forehead. "But don't pressure him, and don't pressure yourself either. Everything that needs to happen will happen."
"Okay, Mommy…"
And there, Campanella ended her dream.
She rubbed her eyes when she found herself in bed. Apparently, Hestia had already woken up. She remembered that her mother had told her how much Hestia had to work in that time, so now wouldn't be an exception.
She changed out of the pajamas they had lent her into her normal clothes, and when she left the room, she found Bell again, who seemed to be getting ready.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, everything's fine," the girl replied with a smile. "Where are you going?"
"I haven't decided yet, but there's a debt I need to settle. It's very important."
"I'll go with you! Besides, I want to show you what I promised!" The girl wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"Alright, then we'll do it," that… was quite easy. Campanella smiled broadly and went to fetch her weapon. Bell still felt impressed by that multicolored umbrella, and he definitely wanted to know more about it. "Hehe, did I surprise you? I'm trying to do my job well."
"Then I think you're on the right track… I'll show you a few things, although there are many spells I'm not very good at yet…"
"This could be a good time to learn how to use them, don't you think? Show me what you've got."
The girl nodded, raising her weapon… but then she hesitated.
"What's wrong?" Bell asked, tilting his head slightly.
"It's just that… I'm not sure what to show you exactly," the boy nearly fell backward, but then he couldn't help but laugh. It was expected, in a way… Campanella was still a child who needed direction, and he was more than willing to provide it. His little girl was very cute!
"Well, if you have doubts, why don't you first tell me a bit about your weapon? It's the first time I've seen something like this."
"Sure!"
She then approached, and Campanella revealed the name of the weapon: Myriad Manifestation Umbrella. That only made Bell feel even more that it was the first time he had seen something like that. At the same time, it seemed to emanate an energy he had never felt before… Campanella noticed his curiosity, so she smiled a little before confirming what he seemed to be intuiting.
"You want to touch it, don't you?" Bell first shook his head… but then realized there was no point in denying the obvious. "Well, I have to tell you first… that she chooses who can wield her."
"The weapon chooses?" Now Bell looked more surprised than before. Campanella laughed softly.
"Yes! She has her own spirit…" It was evident that the girl was trying to explain herself better, but she couldn't find the right words. "She was forged with parts of the three great beasts: Behemoth, Leviathan, and the one-eyed Black Dragon, but her consciousness comes from the blood with which she was forged, so she has her own temperament and preferences. She likes me a lot, and that's why she lets me use her freely, but it's not the same with everyone."
"That sounds very complex." Bell could tell that the girl wasn't lying, but in his head, he couldn't quite grasp how something like that could be possible. By whose power? The person who forged that would have to be truly exemplary, among other things, so much so that he felt it was designed as some sort of ultimate weapon. "And it doesn't hurt you?"
"No! Because I can't use her to her full potential… yet." At that, Campanella sighed; it seemed to be a sensitive point for her. "She grows with me; I mean her power, she adapts to whoever uses her, that's what they explained to me since I've had her… She's very important to me." Campanella would have liked to use all those big words her mommy had used to describe it, like adaptation and progress, but those concepts were still difficult for her. She only knew that if she got stronger, her weapon would too. Although, if someone else used it… it would reflect that person's strength, if MMU allowed it, of course.
"I'm sure you'll be able to use her to her full potential sooner than you think," Bell managed to say with a smile, while stroking the top of the girl's head. "I admit I'd love to try using her, but I don't want to get into trouble… for now, because I promised my goddess."
"She wouldn't reject you!" Campanella said with great confidence, clenching her fists. Then she realized that sounded very suspicious and blushed. "I-I mean… I'm sure you'd get along well if you wanted to use her."
"I'd love to try, to be honest, but first I'd like to see how you use her." Well, that was only fair, after all, he had never handled such a weapon before… at least not in the way he was seeing it now.
"Alright."
Campanella had already used her in the dungeon, but she supposed Bell wasn't aware of her spells, so she wanted to show him what she could do.
"Stand by my side," the smaller one requested, while the older one nodded. At that moment, she held the MMU with both arms, her eyes glowed a little as she recited the incantation. "Summon Aqua!" A wave surrounded them both, while Bell felt amazed by her ability to create an element out of nothing, that required a lot of magic… not that he knew it firsthand, but he had been told about it.
The bubbles burst around them shortly after, so there wasn't much to say about the incantation. However, he felt an obvious strength coursing through his body; right now, he felt capable of doing anything.
"Did you… heal me?" he asked, noticing his own stats. Campanella giggled while lowering the weapon a little.
"That's right! If we had an enemy in front of us, it would have affected them too, though not in a good way."
"That's incredible." The truth was, he was very surprised by what she was capable of doing, in this position he could detail it even better. "Aren't you tired?"
"No, because the umbrella also serves for that… Since it's her magic that amplifies mine, I don't have to use much of it. My mommy explained that they created it with that in mind… so that her user wouldn't tire easily."
"That's very well thought out, although… I think it's a resource that should be used if someone is having serious problems, don't you think? Like in a war, or against an enemy that's too strong." As expected, Bell thought things through very well, although Campanella was surprised that he reached that conclusion on his own… He was so cool!
"Yes… You're not wrong, but did I make you feel better?"
"Much better, thank you, Campanella." He patted her head again, and the girl smiled. "Well, since we're here, would you like to come with me?"
"Where to?"
"There are a few people I need to talk to. I'm not particularly thrilled about it, but maybe it's for the best."
The girl tilted her head but ended up going with him, taking his hand in the process. Bell felt very happy about that gesture; he felt like he could quickly get used to her company.
Campanella was bursting with joy… She was holding her father's hand, and that was something she thought would never happen. In fact, it reminded her of her mother's words about being happy, so she was fulfilling her will, wasn't she? She needed to be strong, brave, and happy. She didn't know if that would really help, but that didn't mean she would stop trying.
Finally, they arrived at what seemed to be the center of the town. There, a girl with glasses was waiting for them with a rather angry expression.
"Are you okay? I heard about what happened yesterday, in fact, I wanted to look for you and…" Then, the girl's gaze fell on the little one beside him. Her eyes widened in surprise. Campanella smiled in her direction, not understanding much of what was happening. "And this girl?"
"Hello, Eina! Oh, you mean her? She's Campanella. As you already know what happened on the 6th floor, well, she helped me." The girl immediately smiled when she heard her father acknowledge what she had achieved, especially in these circumstances! She then let go of his hand to approach the young woman.
"I… I did what I could! It's a pleasure to
Meet you!"
"The pleasure is mine… Wow, you look a lot like Bell."
"Do you think so?" The boy scratched his neck but didn't try to deny it. "Well, to what I was saying: I need you to take care of her for a while, I promise it'll only be back right after I exchange some magic stones, and then I'll come straight back for her.", and for Campanella to get registered with the guild."
Eina still seemed unconvinced; it didn't bother her to take care of the girl, although he wasn't giving her any context! What bothered her was that he had put himself in danger and hadn't said anything about it!
"… Do you have any problem taking care of her?"
"No, none," Eina sighed in defeat. She didn't want to cause a scene in front of a child. "Come back here early as you promised, and then we need to have a proper conversation about all this, Bell."
"Thank you very much!" Bell then crouched down, taking the little one by the shoulders. "I have to do this, or we'll have problems later, but I'll come back for you. You'll be safe here." Something he couldn't assure if she went with him.
"But…" Campanella felt very torn: on one hand, she would like to accompany him, but on the other, she understood his concern for her. "Alright," she finally accepted.
Eina couldn't believe how much this girl talked… for good, it hadn't been hard to keep a conversation going despite her stupefied gaze. She was very cute to have become Bell's friend.
Well, she said friend, but what else could she be? Maybe his sister? They did look very similar if you disregarded the color of her eyes…
Even so, she didn't want to ask too many questions. It was curious to take care of someone so small and with such potential. She had met children before, but none as powerful as this one, much less with a weapon that only they could handle.
After that, the doorbell rang, announcing the arrival of someone. Campanella said she would go attend to help her, but she froze when she saw who it was.
… Her mother.
"Eina?" the elf called, looking around for her, but when she looked down, she finally noticed the girl. "Oh… Good afternoon. Do you know where Eina is?"
"Y-Yes, I mean… She's coming," at that, her caretaker approached, waving with one hand.
"Riveria, long time no see. Did you need something?"
"Actually, I just came to visit you… Although I see you have company."
"The girl? She's a friend of a friend, but they shouldn't take long to come for her." And, as if summoned, indeed, Bell returned for the girl.
"I'm back!" the white-haired boy announced, noticing that they weren't alone, which made him lower his voice in embarrassment. "Mmm… Thank you for taking care of her, Eina, we'll discuss the cost later, okay?"
"I won't charge you anything, don't worry. Besides, all the paperwork has been done, I'll just ask you to tell me more details later." Bell smiled, pleased with the news, lifting the girl into his arms.
"Did you hear that, Campanella? Welcome officially!"
"Yes! I'm so happy about that," the girl commented with a big smile as they prepared to leave.
Before that, Campanella freed herself from her father's arms… running until she reached Riveria's leg, who was surprised to see the girl hugging her. No one understood what was happening, but Campanella… just wanted this for now.
"Goodbye," she said after letting go, feeling like she wanted to spend more time with her… But maybe that would be another time.
"Yes… Goodbye."
Then, the girl ran back to Bell's arms, hiding her face on his shoulder. He decided not to say anything… He felt that, in time, he would understand why.
After returning, Bell couldn't stop thinking about the encounter. He kept feeling that there was something odd about the girl, something he couldn't quite put his finger on. But he decided to push those thoughts aside for now.
"Well, let's go home, shall we?" Bell said as they began walking back.
Campanella nodded, still holding tightly to her father's hand, feeling warmth and comfort in the simple act of being with him. She couldn't help but smile, feeling a sense of belonging that she hadn't realized she was missing so much.
As they arrived at their small, modest home, Hestia welcomed them back with her usual bright and cheerful demeanor. Despite the humble surroundings, Campanella felt a strange sense of peace. For now, this was her home, and it felt right.
The evening was filled with light conversation and laughter, something that Campanella hadn't experienced in a long time. They shared a simple meal, with Hestia making sure that Campanella felt completely at ease and included. Bell, meanwhile, kept observing the little girl, marveling at how easily she had fit into their lives.
Later that night, as the small house grew quiet, Campanella found herself unable to sleep. She lay awake, thinking about her mother, her mission, and the strange feeling of having a place she could call home, even if only temporarily.
"Mommy…" she whispered to herself in the dark, feeling tears well up in her eyes. She missed her mother terribly, and the thought of being separated from her for who knew how long weighed heavily on her young heart.
But then she remembered her mother's words, how she had encouraged her to be strong, brave, and happy. She had to focus on her mission, to make sure that what happened in her timeline wouldn't happen again.
"Be brave," she whispered to herself, trying to find comfort in the words.
As she closed her eyes, trying to find sleep, she wondered what the future would hold. Would she be able to change things for the better? Would she be able to protect those she loved? These thoughts swirled in her mind until exhaustion finally took over, and she drifted into a restless sleep.
The next morning, Campanella woke early, determined to continue her mission. She got dressed quietly, careful not to wake Bell or Hestia. She wanted to make sure she was ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
But as she looked at herself in the mirror, a small pang of doubt crept into her heart. Could she really do this? Could she change the future and save everyone she cared about?
Shaking her head, she pushed those thoughts aside. She had to believe in herself, just like her mother had believed in her. She had to be strong, for her sake and for the sake of everyone she loved.
Taking a deep breath, she left the small room and headed into the main area of the house, where Hestia was already awake, preparing breakfast.
"Good morning, Campanella," Hestia greeted her with a warm smile. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, thank you," Campanella replied, though her sleep had been far from restful.
As they sat down to eat, Campanella felt a sense of determination growing within her. She was ready to face whatever challenges came her way, and she knew she wouldn't have to face them alone. With Bell and Hestia by her side, she felt that she could do anything.
After breakfast, Bell suggested they head out to explore the town and maybe do some training. Campanella eagerly agreed, excited to spend more time with her father and to learn from him.
As they walked through the bustling streets of Orario, Campanella couldn't help but be amazed by the sights and sounds around her. The city was so vibrant and alive, so different from the bleak future she had come from.
Bell took her to various shops, showing her different weapons and items, explaining their uses and how they could be helpful in different situations. Campanella listened intently, soaking up every bit of knowledge he shared with her.
They also spent time in the training grounds, where Bell taught her some basic fighting techniques. Though she had been trained by her mother, learning from Bell was a completely different experience. He was patient and encouraging, making sure she understood each move before moving on to the next.
By the end of the day, Campanella was exhausted but happy. She had learned so much, and she felt a strong sense of accomplishment. As they headed back home, she couldn't help but feel a growing bond with Bell, a connection that went beyond just being father and daughter.
As they reached their home, Bell looked down at her with a smile. "You did great today, Campanella. I'm really proud of you."
Her heart swelled with pride at his words, and she smiled up at him. "Thank you, Daddy."
That night, as Campanella lay in bed, she thought about everything that had happened that day. She felt a sense of hope that she hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe, just maybe, she could change the future. Maybe she could make things better for everyone.
With that thought in mind, she finally fell into a deep, peaceful sleep, dreaming of a brighter future.
