Different Perspectives Chapter 9

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games

Glancing at the screen, I saw Colleen Weir and Ashley Compton awaiting the Games to start. Four Tributes, named Vincent Cooper, Magaret Plantagent, Ewe Potter and Rollo Unsworth, have already died due to an earthquake striking the Capitol yesterday. District 1 lost both their Tributes for the second year running, while Districts 7 and 10 lost one Tribute. The alarm went off, and the remaining Tributes ran towards the Weapons Pile. A boy with brown hair spotted a slight boy trying to grab a trident, and with a dagger he picked up, buried the weapon in the smaller boy's chest. A girl from District 11 collapsed, and the brown-haired boy's District Partner slit her throat. Two girls, from Districts 3 and 7, was fighting; the girl from 3 stabbed the 7 girl Tribute to death before the boy, District 2, stabbed the 3 girl in the stomach, all while a boy from District 5 fell to the ground with a knife in his back. I watched as a Melee was forming around the Weapons Pile, a boy from 3 encouraging the other Tributes to grab weapons. I watched in horror as the boy from District 9 lopped off the head of the district 11 boy. Oh no, Colleen and Ashley are in the Melee! I screamed in shock as Hestia from 2 stabbed Colleen in the throat and felt sick as Edric of 9 hacked Ashley to death. A scream yelled as the female Tribute from District 8 was the next to die, with the boy from 3 dying shortly after. Edric would soon fall, with the boy from 2 and girl from 4 killing the pair from District 6. The boy from 10 was killed by Hestia. Finally, after dislodging a spear, the girl from 4 spotted two small girls fleeing from the chaos. Throwing her new weapon, I watched in shock as the spear impaled both girls.

I lost my uncles to these brutal Games. I remembered five years ago, my uncle, Harold Hennessey, was Reaped into the Hunger Games. He came third, shot by the District 2 Female Tribute with her very last arrow. Four years ago, his twin brother, Lachlan, was Reaped into the Games. Like Harold, he placed third, killed by the eventual Victor. Aunt Martha was crying when her brothers died horrible deaths. Harold's girlfriend, Faith Dolman, was Reaped three years ago, and died from exposure. At least she didn't suffer. I watched the crowds gather to where Colleen and Ashley will be laid to rest, passing the graves of the fallen Tributes from District 12. Eighteen children didn't come home. Somewhere in the background, I could hear singing, and standing on the edge of the graveyard, with a guitar in hand, was a girl; she was wearing a colourful ruffled dress and in her hair was flowers. I remember that Harold once told Martha about The Covey, and I wonder if she is part of the group. Sure enough, the girl stopped singing and left. Perhaps next year will be District 12's year.

Yeah, very short chapter, mainly as I'm taking a bit of a break before resuming 75 Years. This story is now on DeviantART.
