Different Perspectives Chapter 14
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Dinah West, 16. District 7 Female Tribute for the 14th Hunger Games
It has been eight days since I entered the Arena. John is already dead, one of the first Tributes to die. There's me, the Tributes from 1, the pair from 2 and Hydrogen from 5 left. Six Tributes. It was eight this morning, but I mercy killed the twins from District 6, Marty and Lyndsey Schirra. Heading towards the abandoned launch pad, I sat on a bench, looking at the plate attached to the bottom of the launch tower. Reading it, I saw the plate was dedicated to three men, who was killed in a fire at the pad long before The Dark Days. The Arena was a perfect replica of the Space Centre, something I didn't know about when we entered. The Alligator Mutts had gone, having killed Velvey from 8 and Timothy from 3; all I do know was the hovercraft had to retrieve Timothy's corpse twice as he had been cut in half. I do remember seeing Demeter and Farro's faces amongst the dead on the night of Day 6.
Sitting on the bench, I wondered about how people in District 7 would be getting on without me producing paper and remembered that little hut in the district. The strange tree outside, the rusting sign declaring it a "Moon Tree", and-
A loud bang interrupted my thoughts as I saw a fireball about to consume the Arena. Diving under the stone bench, I felt fear flow through me as the air became hotter. This is not how I expected to die! I thought as the Hovercrafts flew overhead. Half an hour later, I saw a ladder falling from the hovercraft, and cautiously, got onto it before passing out.
Watching the 14th Hunger Games at the Victors' Interview, I saw that Hydrogen had pierced the canister containing rocket fuel with his knife had resulted in a fireball that consumed him and the Tributes from Districts 1 and 2, and left fire damage elsewhere in the Arena. I saw how lucky I was that I took shelter under a stone bench, as it would be deemed a failure if I was burned to death.
"I'm glad you're safe" I turned to my mother, giving her a hug. Taking a deep breath, I am glad to be home.
Yeah, it's another short chapter. It was because I wrote a nearly 10,000 word essay on the Harry Potter fandom and it's history before writing chapters 13 and 14 of this story
