Different Perspectives Chapter 18

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games

The 18th Hunger Games:

Hector Aldrin, 16, District 6

I stood in complete silence as my friend Rusty walked to the stage, where he joined with the girl from District 6, Bluebell. Behind the mayor sat my uncle Samson Wilson, the only District 6 Victor to date. His older brother Gordon, younger brother Daffyd and sister Emilia all lost their lives in the Hunger Games. I thought back to the previous Games

The Fourth Hunger Games

Gordon shivered as he hid beneath the seating in the City Arena. He wasn't sure which Tributes was left alive, but all he knew his District Partner Deborah Glosswill was certainly dead. Riko Tomiyasu, Taliesin Searson, Set Daniels, Alicia Scott, Billy Thompson, Danae Colwill, Emily Gore and the District 12 girl, Claire McNarama. So that's both from Districts 1 and 2, James from District 4, Sophie from District 5, Denis from District 7, the pair from 9, both tributes from Districts 10 and 11 and the boy from 12 still alive, Gordon thought. He didn't fancy running into the Tributes from Districts 1 or 2, nor did he fancy his chances with Horsa Georges from District 10 or Harold Hennessey from District 12. Both Tributes were not the typical District 10 or 12 Tribute that had been in the past three Games. In fact, Horsa was a farmhand while Harold would regularly collect rocks for his mother, a geology teacher in the District. During the time the Tributes were in the stables, they were getting to know each other. Gordon mentioned how he has a three-year-old nephew, while Deborah gushed about her baby cousin Imogen. During the conversations, Harold mentioned how he is in fact, a twin, while Horsa and Flora Demaine were chatting about their younger siblings. Climbing out of the gap, Gordon didn't expect the District 1 Tributes to be standing above him, and he can only yell as they stabbed him to death. Horsa won the Fourth Hunger Games, after he killed the District 2 girl after she shot his ally with her last arrow, and then said to Horsa "How does it feel. Seeing your allies die. Why, it's like an arrow to the heart, isn't it?"

In District 6, I saw how furious Horsa was when the girl mocked his ally and the manner of his death. The girl from District 11, Flora, was lying on the ground, deep cuts in her stomach and neck, the result of the girl from District 1 trying to cleave her into three pieces. Nearby lay the girl from District 1, a knife in her neck, the work of the District 12 boy after he saw Flora killed in front of him, while at Horsa's feet, lay the District 12 boy. An arrow in his chest, Harold, had slipped away in Horsa's arms moments earlier. These Games are cruel, I thought as I watched the fight between the District 2 girl and the boy from District 10. An hour later, Horsa drilled his knife into the girl's stomach, killing her. Horsa turned towards his fallen allies, muttering a goodbye to them as he retrieved a dagger from Flora and an arrow from Harold.

The Eighth Hunger Games

Twenty Tributes entered the Arena, as Samson Wilson looked around him. The District 1 Tributes were killed in a freak accident before the Games. Theseus is quite deadly, Samson thought to himself, when he saw that the District 2 boy was starting to hack at Tributes at the Weapons Pile. A boy from District 7 had his head lopped off, a slash wound across the boy from District 8's chest, the girl from District 12 decapitated as she fled, her District Partner lying on the ground, his clothes stained with blood after a single slash wound, lying dead on the ground. Samson fled, hiding in the stands as the girl from District 3 killed the powerful Tribute from District 2. That night, five Tributes perished: the girls from Districts 7, 9 and 10 from suffocation after the roof collapsed, and Darla and the girl from District 5 died of suffocation. As the sun rose the boy from District 3 died from the injuries he sustained in the fight against Theseus, and at noon on Day 2, the pair from District 4 died of starvation, with the girl from District 3, on the brink of starvation, committing suicide later that afternoon. The temperatures in the Arena plunged even colder overnight, with the District 11 pair, the girl from District 8, the boy from District 5 and the girl from District 9 dying. By the morning of Day 3, Samson was the only Tribute left alive. Falling on his knees, he began to sob.

Samson was hailed a hero when he returned. Four years after his Victory, he watched, horrified, as his brother was Reaped.

The Twelfth Hunger Games.

Daffyd watched as he saw Sandy, the girl from District 2, pick up a heavy plank. Hitting Kano, the boy lay cold as Sandy drew her broadsword. In one slash she cleaved Kano in half, before heading back to her allies, Amaze Renner from District 1 and her District Partner Achilles. Without warning, Sandy felt herself sink into the bog. Achilles reaching out his hand to try and save Sandy, however, she soon drowned in the bog. That afternoon, Daffyd drowned in the bog.

I remembered just how muddy Daffyd was when he was returned to us. Samson cried at the coffin of his brother.

The Fifteenth Hunger Games.

Emilia rested in the Canopy of the trees. Nodding to Kirsty Darvill, the District 9 girl in the trees, they and the rest of the Outliers. At that moment a firestorm rained down on her, burning her to death.

Emilia was buried in the same cemetery where her brothers laid.

Several days later, I watched at Samson's home as the Games was beginning. I watched as Bluebell is knifed in the back by Hermione, the girl from District 2. I watched in horror as the Tributes hacked each other. I watched in fear as the boy from 9 shoved the girl from 1 into the lava. With the Bloodbath over, I saw that Rusty had made it out alive. I think this Games will be quick.

Sure enough, it was. On Day 3, Dragon from District 11 and Fife from District 12 suffocated, leaving six Tributes. Hermione, the girl from 2, had spotted Rusty and a boy from 4, Guppy, and with her knives, skewered them. The Games ended that day, with the boy from 1 as the Victor.

The 19th Hunger Games:

"Run, Imogen!" I yelled to my District Partner, Imogen Roosa. At that moment I felt a sharp pain through my body as I crumpled. Looking up, I saw Chardonnay, sword drawn and I knew my life was over.

Fun fact: This chapter was one of the earliest written, though it had been left unfinished for a while.
