Different Perspectives Chapter 19
The 19th Hunger Games.
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
An excerpt from "Snow Lands on Top", a biography about the life of President Snow. Published 25 years after the Mockingjay Revolution.
As the second decade of the Hunger Games nears it's end, all eyes were turned on District 1. Having pulled ahead of District 2 in terms of Victors following Maximilian Jaaskelainen's victory in the 18th Hunger Games, the District's hopes rested on a pair of powerful 18-year-olds named Hop and Chardonnay. With Betting introduced for the 17th Hunger Games and Training scores introduced in the 18th Hunger Games, Head Gamemaker Snow decided that the last thing missing was the Tribute Parade. The Tribute Parade would serve two purposes; one is for the Tributes to travel to the Training Centre in style, and the second for potential Sponsors. Snow knew from experience that Sponsors are the key to whether a Tribute lives or dies, so if a Tribute makes a good showing at the Parade, they are more likely to gain more Sponsors. This was implemented in time for the 19th Hunger Games, with the Tributes dressed in various fabrics. Hop and Chardonnay were draped in sheer fabric covered with shimmering purple sequins. District 2's pair, Tiberius and Alexandra, were wearing medieval armour. Pixie and Lithium from District 3 was dressed in silver fabrics, representing the manufacture of electronic goods. Pearl and Trench of District 4 were dressed in colourful fabric, representing coral reefs. District 5's Francia and Quentin were dressed in holographic silver fabrics, while District 6's Imogen and Hector were decked in Space Age style, probably as a reference to her and her District Partner's surnames. District 7's Amber and Pine were dressed as lumberjacks, while District 8's Calico and Whatnot were dressed in a variety of fabrics and trims. District 9's Bay and Miller were dressed in togas, Bay dressed as the Roman goddess of the grain. District 10's pair, Audhulma and Loin, were wearing priarie-style clothing, while District 11's Clemmie and Edmund was dressed as potatoes. Finally, there was District 12's pair, Hope and Crow, dressed as miners.
The Tributes had three days of Training, and when Gamemaker Snow entered the Training Centre to judge each Tribute in preparation for their Training scores, he expected the Careers to be favourites. The Gamemakers narrowly missed a crossbow bolt being fired from the small, slight redhead from District 6.
Chardonnay watched as the Scores was being read out. Hop, her District Partner, scored an 8, the highest at the time. "Chardonnay Carnac of District 1, she scored a 9". Chardonnay cheered, having scored the highest Training Scores in the Games to date. However, it would be short-lived by the time the announcement reached District 6. "Hector Aldrin of District 6, he scores an 8" The announcer took a moment to pause. "Imogen Roosa of District 6, she scores a 10." Chardonnay and Hop glared at the screen, angry that they had been outshone by an Outlier.
Inside the Gamemakers room, Snow looked at the Betting board. Since the announcement of the Training Scores, Imogen had became one of the favourites to win the Games.
As Imogen stood on the launchpad she looked at the Tributes around her. Crow of District 12 was standing beside her, with Alexandra of District 2 close by. Noticing a crossbow, she prepared herself to grab the crossbow as soon as the gong goes. The second the gong went did Imogen sprint to the crossbow and picking it up alongside a small knife before sprinting towards Hector.
Chardonnay joined forces with Hop and the District 2 Tributes, all four of them hacking down any Tribute that was at the Corncuocopia. Hop had chopped the left leg of Amber, the girl from District 7, off, leaving her to bleed to death. Audhulma of District 10 lay dead, a stab wound to the back. Edmund of District 11 lay gutted, Hope of District 12 lay dead in a pool of blood. Tiberius and Alexandra had finished with Lithium of District 3 as the Cannons began to fire. The District 6 Tributes hid in a warehouse, where despite the Gamemakers throwing rattlesnakes, bulls, Tracker Jackers, bison and tornadoes at them, managed to withstand all of them, only for a flood to drive both Tributes out as Gamemaker Snow was beginning to get angry at the fact the 19th Hunger Games was being seen as a failure.
"If this plan works, I expect to see Hector and Imogen gutted very soon" Snow had written in the memo he kept from his time as Gamemaker. As both District 6 Tributes fled the warehouse, they were ambushed. Hector told Imogen to run to a nearby house as the Careers slaughtered him. The Careers gave chase towards the house where Imogen had hid in. The little redhead was looking for her District Partner as the cannon went off. As the Careers camped outside the house, a bolt entered Alexandra's chest, killing her. Tiberius would soon lay dead beside his District Partner, before Chardonnay crumpled in front of Hop. It was too late for him when a dart entered his neck.
Snow refused to talk about the 19th Hunger Games even as he entered Politics, and while the 57th Hunger Games was taking place, a Snow loyalist entered a party uninvited, and started shooting at people, killing three Victors who humiliated the Capitol. Eric Vega of District 9, Dinah West of District 7 and Imogen Roosa of District 6. District 6 had to mourn three people that failed to return from the Capitol that year: Tybalt and Hero, their Tributes, and Jessica Grimes' Mentor, Imogen. Imogen didn't live to see the birth of her granddaughter, Penelope, who would become one of the twenty-two Tributes to die in the 74th Hunger Games, dying alongside her District Partner Stanier Vonheli as they attempted to fight off Marvel Angloueme and Cato Harris; it was no wonder why, in the Victory Tour for District 12, Peeta Mellark, on his visit to District 6, described both Stanier and Penelope as heroes. Jessica would sacrifice herself to save Peeta during the Third Quarter Quell, as the fire that sparked with Katniss Everdeen's brave decision spread across Panem.
This was the very first completed chapter of Different Perspectives. Let's just say I had Imogen's story planned out back in 2018. Agan, another foreshadowing ahead.
