Different Perspectives Chapter 20
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Paris Curl, 31, Victor of the 6th Hunger Games, District 2.
Looking at the large blocks of marble, I placed on my goggles as I began to get to work on carving memorial statues of Alexandra Evans and Tiberius Hood, last year's pair. It's been ten years since the City Arena was the site of a Hunger Games, but I cannot forget the kids that died in my Games. Eleanor, Dana, Rolex, Dusty, Vincent, Korden, Volks, Nell, Malik, Briony, Graham, Josephine, Cedric, Will, Katrielle, Amber, Miriam, Natalie, Faith, Johnathon, Meredith, Ariadne and Raihan. Korden, Josephine, Cedric, Katrielle, Johnathon, Meredith, Ariadne and Raihan, all killed by me. Meredith will always be 17, Rolex will remain 18, same age as Ariadne, Amber will always remain 16, Volks won't make it to 15, Briony is frozen at 16, while Malik won't make it to adulthood. Nell will always remain 13, and Vincent won't ever see his 16th birthday. Josephine and Cedric won't grow old, and Miriam won't ever see her teenage years. Johnathon will never have kids, and Eleanor and Raihan will always remain very young, Dana and Graham were too young to die, same thing with Natalie and Korden. Will and Katrielle didn't deserve to die at 12, neither did Dusty, and Faith was unlucky to be Reaped at the age she was. None of those kids deserve to die. Hestia is at the mausoleum again, probably laying flowers on the graves.
"Hestia?" I said as I entered the building. Hestia, my sister and fellow Victor, was standing at a chest tomb, carved with the name, date of birth and date of death of a Tribute. "None of these kids deserve to die. Rocky, Danielle, Troilus, Gemma, Hercules, Ariana, Oliver, Ursula, Granit, Athena, Ariadne, Alastor, Cynthia, Theseus, Acantha, Therin, Marcus, Sabyn, Ajax, Diantha, Achilles, Sandy, Squire, Venus, Atlas, Jocasta, Sirius, Augusta, Justus, Sagitta, Antares, Drusa, Adolphus, Hermione, Tiberius and Alexandra. The District 2 kids who are now dead." Hestia muttered. "And for what? So, the Capitol can have their fix of entertainment. Either Hilaria or Caelus will die, or probably both will."
"Since Snow has taken charge, he has been making the Games a show. From Betting Odds, Training Scores and the Tribute Parade to the Arenas, Hilaria and Caelus are basically in the Games for entertainment. And the Arena is a maze" I told her as I returned to the marble blocks.
"Paris! You'd better carve a statue for Hilaria!" I heard someone yell as I was finishing off Tiberius' statue. Looking out, I saw on the big screen, covered in blood, was Caelus. "This is the moment a Tribute becomes a Victor; Caelus Harris of District 2" Lucky Flickerman announced as the Hovercraft took Caelus out of the Arena.
As Hilaria is laid to rest, I turned to a block of marble in the quarry, hoping it can be carried to the studio. My daughter, Victoria, looked at the block in awe. Grabbing her hand, I made my way home.
I started this chapter this afternoon, but I decided on Paris as the POV character last night. I wanted to do a chapter on Paris' life fourteen years after his Games, and this chapter proved the perfect chance for it. Chapters 24, 28 and 29 of this story are done, but won't be posted until 2025, as I want to start work on chapters 21 and 22 of this story alongside Chapters 21 and 22 of 75 Years. I will be making a start on "The Vonheli Chronicles" in the next few days with a goal of a late 2025/early 2026 posting of the first part. However, it won't be posted on here, instead on AO3 and dA. I found that since I joined AO3, I haven't had any schedule slips; in fact "Beyond The Pale" was completed within 458 days, while "75 Years" has been ongoing for 910 days. "Different Perspectives" is 818 days old. I'm hopeful I can get both this fanfiction and "75 Years" done by early 2026
