Different Perspectives Chapter 25
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
India Trinket, Sponsor to the District 1 Female, The Capitol.
"Showtime" I thought to myself, as I sipped on some wine. Smiling as I spotted my girl, Treasure Parlour, on her podium, I watched in anticipation as the gong went off, signalling the start of the 25th Hunger Games and the First Quarter Quell. The Tributes were hand selected by the District, as the twist was that the Districts vote in their Tributes. Treasure picked up a knife, and seeing a boy from District 5, she slashed at him, his corpse joining the boy from 3 and the girl from 11. Treasure's District Partner, Crown Van Day, slammed a girl to the ground before spearing her as the final Bloodbath kill was made, by the girl from 2, who slit the girl from 9's throat. I felt relief as I saw my girl had made it.
As I had a glass of wine at the party, I chatted to my friend, who was Sponsoring the boy from 2, Valour Amesbury. "If my girl can't win, I hope your boy can" I said, as I glanced at the screen, showing Lucky Flickerman talking about the District 11 boy's death among the bushes. There were three deaths that day: Alban Rostron of District 7, Barklyn West, also of District 7, and the boy, whose name I learned was Apus Dehaney.
The next two days passed by, and it's now the fifth day of the Games. I watched as a girl died of dehydration, the pair from 2 hacking down a pair of Tributes from 8, and Crown chop down a burly cowboy from 10. Finally, I watched as Treasure drew out her knife and slit the throat of a girl.
On the screen, I saw a man looking dejected. The man, I remember, was Edgar Parlour, Treasure's father. Edgar was the very first person to win the Hunger Games, and now his daughter is a Tribute.
"Crown!" I heard Treasure yell as her District Partner was trapped in the jaws of the Coyote Mutts, who had killed the pair from District 4. Crown kicked as the fangs of the Mutts pierced his skin. Two Mutts grabbed his legs, and they began to tug, watching in sheer horror as the boy from 1 was pulled apart. Treasure shook in fear, her face going pale at what she had seen. Her District Partner having one of the most agonising deaths in the Games to date. Turning back and away from Crown's decimated corpse, she drew out her sword and slashed at the pair from 2, who was fighting against my girl. But Treasure overpowered them despite the severe wounds they inflicted on her. I watched as she collapsed on the dusty ground, bleeding out, sobbing that despite my Sponsorship of the girl I failed as the boy from District 9 was lifted out of the Arena.
26th Hunger Games.
"Are you Sponsoring this year, India?" My friend asked. Turning to her, I said in a low voice. "Not this year". I turned back to the screen, watching as the boy from 5 cut the stalagmite from the roof of the cave and onto the boy from 1.
Yes, India and Treasure's names are a shout-out to one of my favourite books as a child.
