Gwen's life had always been a little bit hard. From being a target of bullies in her school to being labeled as the "glassless nerd", she went through it all. But her label wasn't entirely true though. Sometimes she had to wear glasses because of her hyperopia (a condition which makes a person have a difficult time seeing objects nearby). Though her hyperopia would only sometimes act up, it still bought a negative impact in her life. Today though, she was on summer vacation. So she could catch a bit of a break for a while.
Currently, Gwen was thinking about being the only ordinary person left in Team Tennyson (the group name she, Ben and Max gave themselves). It wasn't fun, but what could she do? Ben had the Omnitrix, and she didn't know how to properly use Max's weapons and other equipment. She wished she also had something up her sleeve, but that would be the day.
Meanwhile...
"At last, I have finally found it! One more item to my collection of magical artifacts."
This is Hex, a high-level magician and supervillain. He was currently holding a brown book with a yellow cross on its cover. And with him was his niece and apprentice "Charmcaster". But Charmcaster's real name is Hope (though we'll stick with her nickname since it's more famous).
"Finally! All will bow before me as they get introduced to their new leader. Hahahahaha! Come on, my niece. We have a world to conquer."
"Yes uncle."
Hex and Charmcaster went through a portal. When they got to the other side of it, they finally reached our part of the universe.
"Ah, here we are. Earth."
The portal behind them then closed, before Hex started wreaking havoc. He threw red magic blasts everywhere.
FLASH!
"AAH!"
Everyone in the area started running for their lives, they knew they wouldn't be able to survive a man with powers if they stayed close. "Hahahaha!" Hex laughed as he continued to throw more magic blasts in the area.
BOOM!
At this point, Ben, Gwen and Max were at the Swapalooza. The theme was mostly retro things, but there were a few odd things in there as well. But there was no time to check them out as they heard a loud boom followed by the screams of people running for their lives. "Uh oh, sounds like trouble!" said Max, "Looks like it's hero time!" said Ben before activating the Omnitrix. There was a new alien inside it, so he tried it and slammed it down.
FLASH!
Blue turtle-like skin covered Ben's body, followed by a huge, blue turtle-like shell. His arms and feet turned into ones with more turtle-y and tortoise-y-like features.
FLASH!
"Terraspin!"
After Ben transformed, he and Max started running towards the direction where the blasts came from. "Gwen, stay in the RV and don't come out 'till we tell you to!" Max shouted at Gwen. Gwen nodded, before doing so.
Gwen quickly ran towards the Rustbucket, before locking the doors and windows and staying there. She was going to be there for a while.
Meanwhile, Ben and Max got to where the blasts were coming from. When they did, they saw a man in a red cloak and a white-haired girl with purple clothing. "Stop right there!" shouted Ben. This caught their attentions. "Who are you?" asked Hex, "Terraspin!" Ben replied before jumping, turning his feet into flipper-like limbs and spinning his limbs around to create wind like a fan.
FWOOSH!
"AAH!"
"AAH!"
THUD!
Hex and Charmcaster were sent flying into one of the stalls. Luckily, it was already empty so there was no one in there. But Hex got back up and made a staff with a bird-like head appear. This is the Staff of Ages, a powerful staff that amplifies the user's magic abilities if they have some. "Shadallah!" yelled Hex, before dark purple magic came out of the staff.
FLASH!
Max got down, but Ben was able to send the blast back by spinning his arms and feet even faster. "AAH!" both Hex and Charmcaster screamed as they dropped to the ground. Hex's spell hit the ground, destroying a big chunk of it.
BOOM!
"Clever, but futile." said Hex, before making the staff shoot out red magic blasts. Ben dodged them all, before hitting him and Charmcaster. "Booyakasha!" yelled Ben as he did so referencing four certain mutant ninja turtles.
BAM!
THUMP!
Hex and Charmcaster were sent to the ground. Charmcaster then reached into her purse, before throwing magic rocks. These rocks turned into two dog-like creatures. "Sic 'em boys!" said Charmcaster. Then, the rock dogs lunged towards Ben and Max. "YAAH!" Max shouted, before firing at them. "Play dead!" he said as the pieces of the rock dogs scattered into the ground.
"I don't have time for this." said Hex, before floating towards Max. Then, he raised the staff up preparing to strike him in the head. "NO!" yelled Ben, before shoving Hex out of the way. "Agh!" said Hex, before falling to the ground once again. "Grandpa, you okay?!" asked Ben as he checked on Max, "U-Ungh..." groaned Max before he got back up. Just then
"Soralis Eratanichia!"
KZZT! KZZT! KZZT!
Charmcaster used a spell that could produce electricity. Just as the lightning bolt was about to hit Max, Ben blocked it with his back. His shell prevented him from feeling any kind of pain. "You're 'boutta get "shell"-shocked!" said Ben, before charging towards her. However, Charmcaster threw two more rocks. The rocks then turned into big, burly humanoid creatures. They tried charging and pounding Ben, but his shell protected him. Ben grabbed on to one of the creatures' legs and threw it at the other one destroying them both.
BAM!
"You're 'boutta hit "rock" bottom!" added Ben, before blowing huge gusts of wind at the scattered pieces of the creatures and making them fly towards Charmcaster. "WHOA!" Charmcaster yelled as she ducked and tried to run, but some of them ended up hitting her and knocking her out.
BAM!
"Agh!"
THUMP!
"ENOUGH!" Hex roared, before a big wave of magic energy swept the area making both Max and Ben fall. Hex turned to Ben and Max before shouting "First, I'll get rid of the both of you! And then, I will resume my plans in conquering this world!". He laughed, before shooting a big magic blast from the staff. "Grandpa, look out!" shouted Ben as he blocked him and faced his back towards the blast. Then
FLASH!
THUD!
"Oomph!"
"Agh!"
Both Ben and Max fell, "Ungh..." groaned Charmcaster as she got back up. "Namala!" uttered Hex, before magic tied both Ben and Max up. "Come on my niece, we have a world to conquer." added Hex, "Yes uncle." replied Charmcaster before following him. "No! Ungh! Ungh!" said Ben as he struggled to break free from being tied.
Meanwhile, the last of the people went out of the Swapalooza. Gwen was getting more and more nervous, she wondered if it was safe to come out now. But neither Ben nor Max have called her yet, so she assumed it wasn't. Just then...
BAM!
"AAH!"
CRASH!
The Rustbucket fell on its side! Gwen screamed as it did. She tried to get back up, but she was too shocked and a bit hurt from the fall. "Hahahaha! Nothing will stop me from ruling this world!" she heard from outside, she knew that it wasn't Max nor Ben. "Oh man, I gotta stay in here! But... if I stay in here I'll probably die!" Gwen thought. Hex and Charmcaster continued to destroy everything in sight. Finally, Gwen couldn't take it anymore and decided to take a peek at what was going on outside. When she did, she saw Hex and Charmcaster still destroying everything in their paths. Not wanting to be next, Gwen took something from one of the Rustbucket's drawers and threw it at Hex.
BAM!
"Argh! Who threw that book?!"
As soon as Hex said that, Gwen quickly hid back in the Rustbucket. But unfortunately, she was seen. Hex formed a big ball of red magic on his hands, before throwing it towards the Rustbucket. That was the signal for Gwen to leave.
BOOM!
The Rustbucket was destroyed. Luckily, Gwen managed to get out in time. "Aha! Come here little girl!" shouted Hex, "AAH!" screamed Gwen as she started to run. Hex then threw more magic blasts at her, but she was so scared for her life that she ended up running faster than she usually could.
"Come here! I will turn you into a toad, child!" roared Hex as he continued throwing more magic blasts with the help of his niece Charmcaster. Charmcaster then reached into her purse once more before throwing more rocks into the air. The rocks turned into bat-like creatures and started flying after Gwen. "AAH!" Gwen freaked out as she saw them and tried running even faster.
Gwen was able to run for a few more seconds before the bats caught up to her. They took her by her clothes and lifted her up in the air towards Hex and Charmcaster. Once she was close to them, Hex said "I don't know why you thought throwing that book was a good idea, but you're going to find out that it's quite the opposite. Hahahaha!". "Yaah!" shouted Gwen as she wriggled around and managed to kick Hex in the face. "Agh!" said Hex as he accidentally dropped something. It was the book with a yellow cross on it!
THUMP!
Gwen fell down to the ground, when she was able to sit up she saw that the book wasn't too far from where she was. She decided to take the opportunity to grab it. Hex tried to stop her, but she got to it first. "Have a taste of your own medicine!" said Gwen as she opened the book, "Wh-What is this? Is this a spell book?" she thought as she looked at the pages. The texts were in a language she didn't understand. "Hahahaha! You don't have the power to defeat me! I doubt you have magical abilities, and I don't think you'll be able to understand everything in there!" laughed Hex. Suddenly, the texts in the book changed to English. Now Gwen could understand it. She tried one of its spells.
"S-Soralis... Eratanichia?"
KZZT!
"AAH!"
A huge bolt of lightning came out of Gwen's hand, it hit Hex and made him fall. Gwen was surprised at first, but quickly realized that she could turn the tables on him and Charmcaster. She flipped through the pages again, before saying "Sonoris Bumbargos!"
FWOOSH!
"AAH!"
A huge wave of water washed both Hex and Charmcaster away, sending them flying into a stall. "Yes!" said Gwen, "And now for the finishing blow!" she added before yelling "Racta Buoga!".
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
"Agh!"
"Urgh!"
Small rocks suddenly flew towards Hex and Charmcaster, they rained on them knocking them both out. Once the rocks stopped, they laid there on the ground unconscious. "Yes! Now to find my cousin and grandpa!" Gwen added before running with the spell book.
It took a while for Gwen to find Ben and Max, but she eventually did. "Oh no! Ben! Grandpa!" she yelled, "G-Gwen?!" Max said surprised. Meanwhile, Ben had been reverted back into his human form. The Omnitrix ran out of charge from him staying as an alien too long. Gwen used magic to free Ben and Max from the contraption that Hex made. "What happened?!" she asked, "We were fighting- -Hey, how'd you do that?! And what's that?!" Ben replied pointing at the spell book. "A little something I got from those two magic maniacs." Gwen answered. "So... where are they?!" Ben asked on, "I managed to beat them. -With this." Gwen answered again while holding the spell book up. Just then, something strange started happening. The spell book started glowing white. "Uhh... Gwen...?" Ben asked nervously.
Gwen looked at the spell book, before opening it up. When she got to the back of the front cover, she saw that the blank space where you could write a name had been filled. Now it said "Property of: Gwendolyn Cathryn Tennyson". "Whoa..." Gwen said in amazement as she saw this. "Wh-What's happening?!" Ben asked nervously again, Gwen then showed him the back of the front cover. "Whoa!" Ben said in surprise, "Wh-What?!" Max said feeling the same. "I... guess it's mine now." Gwen said before smiling a bit. Suddenly
FLASH!
"You thought you could defeat us with those measly rocks?!"
"It's those magic maniacs!"
"Let's show them some tricks of our own!"
"They're not the only ones who can do magic, I'm gonna perform a "disappearing trick" and replace myself with some alien! It's hero time!"
FLASH!
FWOOSH!
CHAKK-CHAKK!
The Tennysons got ready to face Hex and Charmcaster together, Ben had turned into Fourarms. He jumped high before smashing Hex into the ground.
"RAAH!"
SMASH!
Max then fired two shells from his blaster, trapping Charmcaster. The nets then electrocuted her, weakening her a bit. Finally, Gwen shouted "Ablita Plazita!". Ice formed around Hex and Charmcaster, freezing them. For the finishing move, Gwen flipped through the spell book's pages again before shouting "Sonoris Fieros!".
FWOOSH!
The fire burned both Hex and Charmcaster, weakening them even further. After that, they finally stayed down. -For real this time. "Let's make sure these guys don't escape!" added Max, before firing shells at them trapping them in the nets.
Soon...
Hex and Charmcaster were taken away by other magicians, one of them stopped to talk to Gwen.
"It seems that the spell book has chosen you as its new owner. I guess I can't do much about what it wants. Keep it safe, and use it for good."
"I will, thank you."
With that, the magicians left with Hex and Charmcaster. They went through a magic portal, before it closed up. "Well, I guess I'll have a new favorite book." Gwen joked, "So much better than those weird novels you read." replied Ben. "They're not "weird" you just don't have good taste when it comes to literature. All you read is Sumo Slammer comics." Gwen retorted back, "People would more likely read those than your novels." Ben replied back again smirking. "Alright you two, enough banter. Now, let's go home." Max interrupted, "Uhh... yeah. About that..." Gwen replied nervously.
A few minutes later...
"-WHAT?!"
"Don't worry, I think I can fix it with magic."
FLASH!
"There, good as new."
"Phew, looks like we'll be able to get out of here after all."
The Tennysons helped repair what they could in the Swapalooza, then they went off. Now that Gwen had a spell book, things would be easier for her. At least on the life in general side of things. On the battle side of things though... maybe sometimes. -Unless she meets an opponent greater than her that can use magic better than her. -Well... besides Hex and Charmcaster anyway. But I'm pretty that it'll be a while before that happens.
