Spider-Man: Destiny - Year 1
Chapter 10: Judas
…
Silver Sable stirred awake, her senses gradually coming back. She blinked against the light, taking in the sterile white walls and the soft hum of medical equipment around her. Her clothes were all lying on a chair against the wall. Sable looked down and saw she was in a hospital gown, and her left leg was bandaged. The pain had subsided, but wasn't completely gone. Sable slowly swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her bare feet touching the cold floor. The sensation made her toes curl instinctively as she felt a small strain in her leg.
"Gah," Sable groaned.
Sable then noticed a pair of crutches next to her bed. She got on the crutches and steadily made her way to the large, transparent glass wall that offered a panoramic view of Symkaria. Sable sighed as she admired the cityscape of Symkaria. Skyscrapers with sleek designs and cutting-edge technology stood alongside centuries-old buildings, their designs adorned with traditional carvings and historical murals. Yet, interspersed among these were pockets of poverty, specifically dilapidated structures and collapsed neighborhoods.
"Home sweet home," Sable whispered.
The streets below bustled with activity, from the elegant promenades filled with well-dressed citizens to the narrow alleyways with the homeless. Sable noticed a group of children playing in the street, and a market was in full swing nearby, with vendors offering everything from fresh produce to handcrafted goods. Sable's face formed a light smile, though that faded once the door to the infirmary opened.
"How are you feeling?" Kris' voice asked behind Sable.
Sable turned her head around to see Kris approaching, and he was only wearing combat pants and black boots. He had some bandages on his chest, and his right arm was in a cast.
"Physically? Better. You?" Sable asked.
"Could be worse," Kris sighed.
Sable was silent for a few seconds before responding. "I don't know… well, I don't know what else to say."
"There isn't really anything else to say. I already told you that there can't be anything holding us back going forward."
"I know, but-"
"You watched our entire base burn down before us. Our comrades getting torn through like paper. Look at us. All that talk about strategy and pace, and we're the ones on the losing side."
Sable looked down, not knowing how to respond.
"Can I ask you something? Why are you doin' all this?" Kris asked.
"Huh?" Sable responded.
"I trusted you and I still do to make the call. You've only really killed unless you've had to, yet you're also trying to build this whole plan to slaughter the Kingpin and wreck his whole empire," Kris pointed out.
"I'm a soldier. Have been since I was seventeen."
"Are you, though?"
"Excuse me?"
"Sable, with all due respect, you're still clearly not willing to go the other way."
"What are you talking about?"
"Even years after Fisk left Symkaria, his influence is still out there in our country. Maybe it's gotten a little better in the past few years with our military efforts, but the poverty, the economic ruin, the crime. There's still enough we haven't done for our own country, let alone New York. For the second time in your life, Fisk took everything and everyone from you, and you're still too scared to lose a part of your soul in this war. I'm not, and I'm gonna do what I can for all of us," Kris ranted.
Sable glared at Kris. "I'm not scared. And I'm not going to let you tell me who I am when you're the one running around all trigger-happy. I am your superior, and you will not do anything without my word."
Kris returned the glare to Sable, with there being a tense silence as he walked closer to her.
"Don't forget who taught you how to fight, Sablinova," Kris declared.
"You amongst a few others. At the end of the day, I forged myself. And there won't be anyone else who'll escort Wilson Fisk to the gates of Hell," Sable asserted. "Despite what you think, I'm not afraid to lose myself."
Kris scoffed, and started to walk to the door. "I hope to God you're right. Because I can't shake off the feeling it's only gonna be a bigger shitshow from here."
Kris opened the door, and Sable sighed as she turned around and looked back out at Symkaria.
"By the way. We never found out how our base got discovered. And we will," Kris stated before leaving.
Sable blankly looked out at her country, thinking about everything.
…
A month passed, and Peter and Liz found themselves giving and finishing up their presentation on Selena in Señora Wood's Spanish class.
"Selena wasn't just a singer, but also a symbol of cultural pride for many. She showed that it's possible to succeed while staying true to your roots," Peter nervously said. "And she was hot."
The entire class and Señora Wood laughed. Peter looked to see Liz chuckling as well, making the butterflies in his stomach go off again.
"Fun fact, Selena was the first female Tejano artist, and the youngest singer ever to win the Grammy in the Best Mexican-American album category," Liz stated.
"She also had seven number one hits overall, including Contigo Quiero Estar and Dreaming of You," Peter presented. "Her music's still listened to millions around the world today. Definitely means something."
"Which is that you can make the most unexpected impacts if you don't stop trying," Liz concluded. "Thanks, class."
The entire class clapped, and Peter and Liz walked back to their seats.
"Thank you, Peter and Liz. Next, we got Robby Nelson and Scott Perald presenting on Dolores Huerta."
…
After class ended, Liz immediately walked out and pulled out her phone, looking through her social media. She started to speed walk before Peter caught up with her.
"Hey, Liz! We did pretty good there, right?" Peter chuckled.
"Oh, hey, Pete! Yeah, definitely! You did really great, seriously," Liz complimented.
"Oh, thanks! Yeah, I mean, you were awesome! Like, really, really good," Peter responded.
"Thanks! You have any plans for Thanksgiving break?" Liz asked.
"Probably spend time with my aunt. Hit up Harry. You?"
"My family and I are going out of town to Florida to see my grandparents. Should be fun."
"Yeah, sounds like it. Look, I don't know what your schedule is like, but what if we met for only a little? Like, we could both just take an hour and it could work, you know? I don't know how one hour could just interfere with life," Peter suggested.
"Yeah… I mean, it sounds fair. I'll look at my schedule later and get back to you," Liz stated.
"Oh, shit! Okay, cool! Sounds like a plan!"
"Hey, I gotta go meet with a friend, but I'll see you soon, alright?"
"Yeah, for sure! Later, Liz!"
Peter started to walk towards a different hallway, and pulled out his phone. He started scrolling through the news.
Mysterious Spider-like Vigilante Continues to Operate and Persist throughout New York
Who is the new Spider "guy?" And why is he beating up criminals and swinging around?
The Spider and his Potential Connections to the Gang Wars and Shootouts
Is this Supposed Spider Vigilante a Hero or an Anarchist?
Peter shut off his phone and just kept walking ahead, putting on his earbuds and blasting music.
…
The abandoned warehouse was dimly lit, filled with makeshift targets like old crates and barrels. Wearing a black vest and his further advanced gauntlets, Herman Schultz smashed and punched through some concrete blocks, logs, and wooden barrels. Out of his wingsuit, Adrian sat on a chair nearby, observing.
"How much longer? It's been four hours and I'm really getting hungry," Herman sighed.
"We can go grab a bite after this last set. Remember, keep focusing. Use that sharp vision of yours and project like a shuttle," Adrian advised.
Herman focused on a stack of crates, aiming with precise concentration. He raised his gauntlets and unleashed a controlled vibrational blast. The crates then shattered into splinters, prompting Herman to smirk.
"Sharp aim. Fast and effective damage without hesitation. Good," Adrian complimented, walking over to examine the damage. "I won't deny it though, making messes can definitely be a fun part of the job."
Herman nodded. "Thanks. And I bet. Now that I'm able to fine-tune the blasts to different levels, that'll make it even easier to catch people off guard. I knew Phineas was a genius, but damn."
"You two have been workin' really hard on those things. And your training's really progressed in the past month. Shouldn't be too too long before Fisk lets you in the field. Keep in mind, it's all gonna be about adapting. As you already know, it's all life and death out there. Which is why it's not exactly taking overnight for the big boss to approve sending you out just yet," Adrian advised.
"Point taken. And still, let's hope it's not too much longer. It's been a lot of training and no action."
"Hey, you took on Sable's second-in-command."
"Yeah, but if I'm being honest, part of that was definitely out of luck. You've seen the way that guy shoots, I'm lucky I didn't end up with a hole in my face," Herman admitted.
Adrian shrugged. "I wouldn't think about it like that. You had the balls to face that guy on your own. Standing your ground for the men who died. Why do you think Wesley made a case for you?"
Herman nodded. "Appreciate that. Seriously. Quick question though. Out of curiosity, what's your reason for doin' all this?"
Adrian grabbed his jacket. "Honest to God? Just the money. I was an electronics engineer before all this. And it was fine. I genuinely didn't mind the work, but so much overtime and half of the staff were just dicks. I'm set for life here, and the work is more fun. Win win. What about you?"
"Pretty much just the paycheck."
"Exactly. And I forgot, but how the hell did you manage to locate their base again? And how'd you know it was underground?"
Herman chuckled. "Keep in mind I didn't do any of this without the big guy's approval. And it's funny you talk about big paychecks being such huge incentives."
…
In an underground gym, Silver Sable was boxing and kickboxing a punching bag. Blasting loud heavy metal music through her headphones, Sable yelled as she let out all her rage on the bag. Eventually, she started getting a call from Kris, and she picked up.
"Kris?" Sable said.
"Sable. We got him. Finally," Kris' voice coldly declared.
"Got who?"
"Head over to the base right now. The hangar."
"Kris-"
The phone hung up, and Sable proceeded to head out as fast as she could.
…
Inside the Wild Pack's military base, Silver Sable walked into the hangar, dressed in her suit. Technologically advanced and armored jets and aircrafts surrounded the area. The Foreigner was standing in the center with four other soldiers behind him, and there was a bleeding and bruised fifth one kneeling on the ground, with his battered helmet to the side.
"What the hell is this?!" Sable exclaimed.
"Our rat. With all the digging we've done for the past month, it took too long," the Foreigner growled. "Son of a bitch is the reason our base got destroyed. Feeding info to Fisk's cronies."
"Just for the money?" Sable asked, her voice shaking.
Foreigner yelled and kicked the soldier in the side. "What do you think?"
"Alright, Kris. Now, hold on-" Sable started.
"Shut it!" Foreigner exclaimed, fuming.
Silver Sable walked forward in disbelief. "Really? You're actually gonna defy your-"
Foreigner pulled out his blaster and aimed it right at Sable, who was visibly more than shocked.
"You're not serious," Sable asserted.
"Go ahead and test me at this point," Foreigner challenged, his voice slightly trembling.
"Kris, do you see yourself right now?"
"Do you? I tried so hard to understand, I really did. But you're just gonna keep letting us get killed and-"
Sable quickly pulled her own blaster on Foreigner. "How dare you, I'm the one that's getting us killed?!"
"You're the one who's only killing unless she's gotta! All that talk about you being a soldier at war. And this is war, and you want to pick and choose. Get queasy all you want, but you are NOT a soldier!" Foreigner raged.
"You're real full of shit. Everything I did for all of you! Everyone I've lost, and look at what you're doing!" Sable yelled before looking at the four soldiers behind the Foreigner. "All of you! Arrest him, that's an ORDER!"
However, the soldiers aimed their blasters at Sable at that moment.
Sable's eyes went from furious to nearly frightened. "Now!"
"Sorry, boss. Too much collateral damage at this point," one of the soldiers said.
Sable looked straight at Foreigner as they continued their stand-off. "Kris-"
"You still want to keep pretending?" Foreigner asked. "Like you're the only one who lost someone to Fisk?"
Sable hesitated for a bit before responding. "Don't do this."
"I'm not gonna kill you. But get in our way and we won't hold back," Foreigner stated.
Sable started to slowly lower her blaster. After ten seconds, Foreigner started to do the same. In under a second, Sable swung her blaster to knock Foreigner's out of his hand. Sable swiftly threw down a smoke bomb as she disappeared into the emerging smoke, evading the soldier's ensuing blasts. A dozen shurikens started flying out of the smoke, hitting the soldier's blasters and knocking them out of their hands. Sable then jumped out and landed on one of the soldiers, knocking him down as she punched him in the face. Sable got up and grabbed another one, punching him in the abdomen three times before spin kicking him in the face. The remaining two ran at Sable with their electrified batons, only for Sable to duck under one of them and kick the other soldier in the chest. The other soldier tried to attack Sable from behind, only for her to sweep his leg, knocking him down. Sable grabbed that soldier's baton and electrocuted him in the chest with it, knocking him out. As the last soldier ran at Sable, she threw the baton at him. It hit the soldier's arm, and Sable jumped in and punched him across the face twice, knocking him down. Sable spotted the bruised and bleeding traitorous soldier on the ground across the room. Sable turned around, only to be punched across the face by Foreigner, knocking her down. Sable got up as Foreigner approached her with a blaster.
"Try to shoot me, I dare you," Sable growled.
Foreigner scoffed. "Nah."
Foreigner tossed the blaster to the side of the room. He then charged with a punch, with Sable ducked under. Sable returned with a punch, which Foreigner smacked aside. Foreigner punched Sable across the face, though she returned with a kick to the chest. Foreigner charged and grabbed Sable, slamming and pinning her against one of the jets. Sable punched Foreigner in the face as she rammed her elbow into his wrist. He let go as Sable slipped out. She threw a few shurikens at Foreigner, who smacked them aside with his armored glove. Sable ran over to Foreigner, who easily dodged a punch, smacked aside a kick, and grabbed another punch. Foreigner kicked Sable in the abdomen and grabbed her, tossing her above his shoulder and onto the ground. Getting back up, Sable dodged a few punches by Foreigner and delivered an elbow strike to his chest. Foreigner smacked aside a punch by Sable as the two then kicked each other in the abdomen the same time, causing them to stumble back a little. Sable charged and threw another punch, with Foreigner smacked aside as he punched Sable across the face. Sable grabbed an incoming kick from Foreigner and kicked him in the other leg, knocking him down. Foreigner rolled across the floor to dodge incoming stomps from Sable, and he got up to duck under another kick from Sable. Sable went for a punch, only for Foreigner to grab her wrist and punch her in the abdomen twice before kicking her across the face, knocking her against one of the armored jets and to the ground. Wiping some blood from her nose, Sable elusively grabbed something in her pocket. She stayed on the ground as she faced the approaching Foreigner.
"Remember. It didn't have to be like this," Foreigner stated.
Sable coughed. "Actually. Yeah it did."
Sable immediately threw out a baton, which Foreigner smacked aside. Using the distraction, Sable jumped in and started tasing Foreigner in the chest with an electrified baton. Sable then kicked Foreigner to the ground and ran over to the armored jet, pulling open the cockpit. Sable proceeded to push and press the right buttons and levers, starting the jet. The jet started moving forward, snapping the cables attached to the ceiling as Sable amplified the speed. The jet then took off and started flying above the surface. Foreigner got up from the ground and started yelling at the jet.
"SABLINOVA! BITCH, GET DOWN HERE! NOW!" Foreigner cursed as he started shooting at the jet to no avail.
At that moment, the armored jet fired two small missiles at the ceiling of the hangar, blowing open a massive hole and sending debris flying down. Sable flew the jet out of the hole as she fled into the sky. Foreigner yelled in frustration as he threw his blaster aside. However, he heard the faint groaning of the bruised and bleeding traitorous soldier across the room. Growling, Foreigner walked over to the soldier.
"Pl-please! I told you everything, I swear to God! PLEASE!" the soldier begged.
The last thing that soldier saw was the Foreigner silently raising his armored boot above him and immediately stomping in.
…
That Friday at school, Peter was in his Introduction to Engineering class. He was taking notes from Mr. Harrington's lecture until he got a text, prompting him to check his phone under his desk.
HARRY OSBORN: Silver Spoon at 5? Could use a milkshake
PETER PARKER: Sure let's do it
HARRY OSBORN: Dope
"Alright, class. Next is material science and textures. Different advanced, lightweight, and durable fabric. Flexible yet durable fibers. I know, not the type of stuff you're used to learning about. But some of those superheroes out there you kids follow? How do you think their costumes can take the damage they can? How they can move around so easily without tearing those things, man," Mr. Harrington shared.
Peter perked up a little as he started paying extra close attention.
…
After school at 5, Peter and Harry walked into The Silver Spoon cafe, where there were some people. Peter and Harry stepped into the small line, and the former looked around. There was a college couple at a table, a guy in his mid-thirties at a booth, a trio of other teenagers at a table, and another table to Peter's left happened to consist of Flash, Kong, Rand, Glory and-
"Liz," Harry whispered.
Peter turned to Harry, confused. "Hm?"
"Don't look now, but Liz and her friends are to your left."
"You're screwing with me."
"No, dude. They're there for real. Just be cool, man."
Peter took the quickest glance before turning back to Harry. "Shit, shit-"
"Relax, man," Harry encouraged. "Nothin' to worry about."
Meanwhile, the popular kids were having their own discussion at their table.
"Yo, that actually Peter Parker from school?" Kong asked.
"I think so. And that half-Japanese kid, Harry," Glory noticed.
Flash chuckled. "What's he doin' spending time with that weirdo?"
"Cool it, dude," Rand responded.
"Don't worry, Rand," Kong said before turning to Flash. "Flash has already gone soft on Parker anyway."
Flash scoffed. "Bullshit."
"Bro, you've practically backed off from the dude the past few months," Kong pointed out.
Glory rolled her eyes. "You're saying that like it's a bad thing."
"If there's anyone that's soft on Parker, it's Liz," Flash chuckled.
"Whoa, whoa, not true. And keep me out of this, please," Liz defensively replied.
"Bro, we literally see you talkin with the nerd all the time in the hallway," Kong added.
"That was only a few times. And we're partners in class. He's a nice guy, but it's literally nothing more than that," Liz said.
"So he's not your friend?" Flash asked.
"I-I mean…" Liz stuttered.
"Hey, Liz!"
The group looked over to see Peter and Harry approaching.
"Oh, uh, hi! Hey, Peter!" Liz responded, prompting Flash and Kong to giggle.
"That was a pretty great presentation we gave, right? Like, y-you carried that for sure," Peter complimented.
Liz nodded. "Thanks, Peter. Hey, Harry."
Harry gave a small wave. "S'up, guys. Y'all doing okay?"
"We're just vibing, Harry. How are you, Peter?" Rand asked.
Peter looked at his feet. "I'm fine. Thanks."
"Sure," Kong muttered under his breath.
Flash laughed, and Glory kicked his leg under the table. Harry gave Flash a mildly dirty look.
"Anyway, great seeing you guys. We'll get our drinks now," Harry quickly stated, walking back to the line.
"Yeah, same. See you guys," Peter said before following Harry.
Once they were in line, Peter groaned to himself.
"You okay?" Harry asked.
"Don't even bullshit it for me, how awkward was I being back there?" Peter sighed.
"I'm gonna be honest, pretty awkward. But that wasn't even the worst part."
"I think we're thinkin' the same thing."
Harry was silent for a few seconds before responding. "Look, maybe I'm wrong. She might've been having a bad day or something. Or she's more shy in public?"
"Nah. I'm just invisible when she's around all the other popular kids," Peter grumbled.
"Pete-"
"Honestly, man. Not thirsty anymore, I'll just wait for you outside of the line."
"Okay, man. Let me know if you change your mind."
Peter nodded and walked out of the line. He started to walk towards the bathroom. At the same time, Flash got up with his milkshake and walked towards the counter. Grabbing more napkins, Flash walked in Peter's direction and "accidentally" bumped into him, spilling some of his milkshake on Peter's left shoulder and arm. Everyone in the cafe turned to look, and Kong started laughing while Glory tried not to.
"Whoops. My bad," Flash sarcastically apologized with a smile.
Peter glared at Flash. "You did that on purpose, douchebag!"
"It's what you get for embarrassing me in gym that one time."
"Oh, screw you. You're nothing but a colossal piece of shit."
"What are you gonna do about it, Parker?"
Steaming, Peter clenched his fist extremely hard, contemplating how easy it would be. He looked towards Liz in hope, but she looked visibly conflicted. Liz opened her mouth for a second before closing it. Peter looked in hope for a few more seconds, only for Liz to avoid eye contact and start looking at the ground.
"That's what I thought," Flash chuckled.
Peter shook his head. "This isn't even worth it."
Peter pushed past the laughing Flash and started walking to the door with everyone staring. At that moment, Harry walked over to the college couple and dropped a twenty dollar bill on their table before grabbing their vanilla milkshake.
"Hey!" the girlfriend protested.
"Flash!" Harry yelled, walking up to Flash.
Flash turned around as Harry threw the milkshake in his face, splashing it with ice cream. Peter's jaw dropped as half of the cafe laughed and cheered. Kong himself was trying not to die from laughter. Flash quickly grabbed some napkins and wiped off his face before giving Harry a furious look.
"You're dead, Osborn!" Flash raged as he pushed Harry against a table.
Harry grabbed Flash as the two started to wrestle, only for the owner to yell, "HEY, HEY! All you kids, take it outside and get outta here! Right now before I call the police!"
Harry and Flash let go of each other as they, along with Peter and the former's group, left the cafe.
"Thanks a lot for getting us booted," Rand said to Flash before turning to Peter. "Yo, dude. I'm so sorry about that-"
"It's okay. It's not your fault, Rand," Peter remarked.
Harry turned to go face Flash. "You're a real scumbag, you know that, right?"
"You wanna go right now, rich boy?" Flash threatened.
"I could take you out with one hand, asshole," Harry scoffed.
Flash got closer to Harry. "Wanna find out?"
Kong quickly got in front of Flash as Rand also got in front of Harry.
"Will you CHILL the hell out? Last thing you need is a legal," Kong said to Flash. "Seriously! Thompson, chill!"
"I'm sorry about him, man. It's not worth it, seriously," Rand told Harry.
"Dude, I'm not just gonna sit back and let him mess with my guy like that," Harry defended.
"Yeah, unlike some people," Peter said bitterly, looking at Liz.
"Peter…" Liz sighed.
"I understand that, man. But we all just gotta move on from this. Not worth the scene," Rand mediated.
At that point, Flash managed to chill out, and Rand and Kong walked away with him. Glory followed, and Peter and Harry looked at Liz.
"You know, I thought we were actually friends," Peter muttered.
"Peter-" Liz started.
"Don't," Peter coldly responded before walking away.
"Real great company you keep, girl," Harry scoffed before following Peter.
Peter walked off, trying not to tear up. He took off his milkshake stained sweater.
"Pete! Peter!"
Peter turned around to see Harry rushing to catch up with him.
"Hey, dude. Thanks a lot for doing that back there. You got no idea how much it means to me," Peter thanked.
Harry nodded. "Of course, man. Look… you have no idea how sorry I am about-"
"It's fine. I mean, it's not fine, but… I kinda expected it if I'm being honest."
"That's partially my fault. I'm the one that brought up the thought in the first place."
"No, dude. It's been like this my whole life. I mean, I've told you about how things have been since I was a kid, right?"
"Bits and pieces."
Peter kicked a pebble. "I'm just so freakin' tired of being the weird kid all the time. You have any clue how lonely it was not having anyone to hang with growing up? It's bad enough Flash gave me so much shit even then, but no girls ever wanted to talk to me. No one ever wanted to hang."
"I'm… I'm sorry, man. I don't even know what to say," Harry admitted.
"It's fine. I was just so stupid to think Liz even cared about me."
"I don't think she didn't not care about you."
"Dude, anytime I rambled to you about how hot she was or how much I liked her, I was just wasting my time. Did I even tell you about how my middle school graduation went?"
"No."
"Tried to ask out my crush. Got rejected and Flash made me look like an idiot," Peter shared. "Deja vu, huh?"
"Okay, so things have clearly been… rough. And I'm so sorry that that and today happened, but there's gonna be more girls out there. I promise, man," Harry assured.
"Jesus, you sound like my uncle," Peter groaned.
"And that's a bad thing?" Harry chuckled.
"No, but, uh, never mind. Not the point. This just sucks ass, man."
"Nah, I understand. I know it's painful, but now you know she isn't worth keeping around."
"Okay, but… would it really be the worst idea to try and text her? Maybe try and talk and-"
"You're kidding, right?"
"No, why would I be?"
"PETER!" Harry practically shouted. "The girl literally didn't even bother saying shit or backing you up in there. That was horrible, dude. I get that you really liked her and I know it's literally the WORST. I feel your pain, but dude, please have self-respect."
Peter sighed and stopped walking for a little, prompting Harry to do the same.
"You're probably right. No, you definitely are. But damn, why does it have to be so hard?" Peter moped.
"Don't get me wrong, it's not supposed to be easy. But you gotta just stay close to the genuine people in your life. The true friends, you know?" Harry advised.
"You're right. But with my luck, no way I'm gonna meet a girl that cared anymore for me than Liz did."
"Yes you will."
Peter's phone started ringing, and he saw that it was Aunt May. "Sorry, it's my aunt."
"All good."
Peter picked up the phone. "Hey, May. What's up?"
"Peter. They got him."
Peter felt his heart drop. "The guy who got Uncle Ben?!"
"Yeah. Captain Stacy called and said they're chasing him down at 52nd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn," Aunt May's fragile voice revealed over the phone. "They're trying to corner him in a building there or whatever. Peter, I know this is a lot to hear right now-"
"I gotta go, May."
"Peter, don't do anything stupid."
"I'll be fine. Just gotta go."
Peter hung up the phone before Aunt May could say anything.
"Everything okay?" Harry asked.
"Dude, I'm so sorry, but I really have to go right now. It's an emergency," Peter explained.
Harry nodded, genuinely understanding. "It's all good, man. Let me know how everything is later-"
Peter was already off running at that point, leaving Harry. As the seething Peter ran into an alleyway, he jumped out less than a minute later in his patched-up costume, swinging into the night.
…
On top of a building in Brooklyn, Silver Sable sat as she sharpened one of her blades with a stone. However, she could briefly make out a silhouette swinging mid-air in the distance. The figure got closer, and it became obvious it was the young vigilante.
"You," Sable muttered as her eyebrows furrowed.
As Peter swung to the next building, his enhanced senses started warning him. He turned mid-air to see Silver Sable grappling over as she tackled him to the roof of the building. Peter kicked Sable off as he got up, with the latter getting on her feet as well.
"Out of my way. Right now." Peter coldly threatened.
"All the shit you've caused," Sable scoffed. "You-"
Before Sable could even react, Peter shot a web at her abdomen and swung over. Sable tried to deflect with her fist, only for Peter to kick her down. Quickly getting up, Sable took out a baton, with Peter dodging the first swing and knocking the baton aside upon the second. Sable managed to punch Peter in the face, only for Peter to smack her aside in retaliation. Sent stumbling a few feet across the roof, Sable struggled to get up as she grabbed her arm. Her vision being slightly dizzy, Sable looked up to see Peter swinging away at furious speed. Within ten seconds, Sable forced herself back up and started to pursue.
…
Inside the top floor of the abandoned apartment building, the burglar reloaded his gun. He could hear and see the sirens outside, so he stayed in the shadows.
"Shit," the burglar muttered. "Gotta hold them off. Find somewhere to hide."
"There is nowhere on this Earth that you could hide from me."
The burglar jumped a little, forcing himself not to scream. He turned around, only to see Peter in his suit, crawling on the ceiling.
"Murderer!" Peter erupted.
…
Okay, this took a minute for me to update. Even for me. Sorry about that, but I hope this chapter was worth it! I might as well give you guys an update on my personal life, but since I've gotten home, I've been on a job search. Nothing's landed quite yet, but hopefully these interviews will go somewhere soon. And I'm still spending time with family and friends, also keeping in touch with ones not in the state. And I'm still watching a lot of new stuff. Over the past several months, I watched both the X-Men cartoons and the Spider-Man one from the 90s. And along with several movies and some other shows, Deadpool and Wolverine was also hella fun! RDJ as Doctor Doom gonna go crazy though. And mentally, I've mostly been doing well. Have some moments here and there, but still managing and taking care of myself.
Only two more chapters until the first year ends… I've already started drafting specific plans for Year 2. I'm gonna be upfront, but you guys are in for INSANITY with the ten years this story will follow. I already have a pretty clear picture for how the next two chapters will go, so honestly expect them a little earlier than usual! You've heard me say that a million times, but we're really getting to the end and I'm so excited for you guys to see how the first year concludes. So expect the next chapter Break Free to drop in the next 2-3 weeks!
Thanks again for all the continued support, and favs, follows, and reviews are always appreciated!
