Hi everyone! Here's the next chapter! Hope you enjoy!
Naruto grabbed Perdita by the wrist and sprinted down the hall. "Gotta hide, gotta hide…" he kept repeating. Finally, they reached a door. Naruto figured this wouldn't do good for long, but they could at least catch a breath. "Whew!" he huffed as he slammed the door behind him.
"You think we will really be safe!?" Perdita hissed. "In here!?"
"Not for long." Naruto said. "But we'll need a minute." Naruto looked around. The room was filled with portraits and a lovely chandelier above. "Just where are we? A guest room?"
Perdita looked away. "…this was my father's room."
Naruto stopped his train of thought. "Oh."
Perdita then looked out the window. "My mother died giving birth to me, leaving father was alone to raise me." She smiled slightly. "He was a busy man. But he was kind. He would have me accompany him on his duties and would do his very best to spend time with me after his main duties were done."
Naruto smiled slightly. "He sounds like a good guy." Remembering her current status, he said "If you don't mind me asking…how did he die?"
Perdita looked away. "Heart attack." She muttered. "It's a genetic disease that runs in the family, much like the Russian royal family with hemophilia. My father lasted longer than most, dying in his forties…"
"And it was affecting you too." Naruto concluded. Despite what his friends might think, when given enough information, he COULD put two and two together.
"I was always rather fragile. But it got worse in the past year. It got so bad, that the local doctors gave up on me, but my servants refused to give up and convinced the council to let me be treated in America. Ever since the operation, I've felt myself growing stronger." She looked down on the floor. "I used to think being a Queen would be the best thing in the world. But, the responsibilities…it is a lot. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the days when I could just play with my dolls."
"But you do it anyway." Naruto then said, smiling. "You love your people, and you want to make your dad proud, right?"
Perdita smiled slightly, even blushing. "You're a smart boy, Naruto? Do people ever tell you that?"
Naruto chuckled nervously. "Uh, just the opposite, really. But it's nice for someone else to see another side of me." Naruto looked back at the door, his face turning serious again. "We've wasted too much time. Come on; we need to get ready."
"How?"
Naruto took out some Birdarangs, then remembered he still had an explosive tag or two on him. "Let's hope these work…"
"They haven't gotten far!" Robin said as he lead the two ninja down the way, looking at his holo-screen as the beacon lead them to him.
"One of those other assassins or those sound nin will be coming by here!" Sasuke said as they ran down the hall. "They don't have to beat the others; they just need to get away from them and get to her before we do!"
"I'm well aware of that! We'll just have to hope Naruto is good at hiding!" Robin replied
Sakura sighed. "I know I've been having a bad tendency to underestimate him lately…but I'm certain stealth is not his strong suit."
Suddenly, something crashed through the roof in front of them. Sakura and Sasuke faced strong foes before; yet this one exuded a different kind of aura. The man was covered in armor unlike anything they had seen, clinging to the body but made of metal, yet very flexible as well. He also bolstered the guns of this world they had been introduced to. However, the weapons on his back seemed to be his favored arms, a long bo-staff and a straight edge sword hung on his back. But it was his mask that really caught their attention. A white pony tail hung in the back, though it didn't seem to be natural hair, and the mask was orange on one side, black on the other. The black side had no eye-hole. "Deathstroke!" Robin hissed. The two of them had never met, but Batman had tangled with him on a couple of occasions; the win-loss record was a bit mixed.
"Ah, you must be Robin." The assassin said, pointing at him. "I suppose the Queen went down this way." He said, looking down the hall.
Robin growled and cocked his fist back. Deathstroke caught it easily, lifted him of the ground and pounded him onto the floor. Sakura had to wince. "This guy is good!" If this man were to fight Kakashi, she wasn't sure who would come out on top. Kakashi was probably faster, but she could see from the way he knocked out Robin with one blow that he was insanely strong. "We're not letting you touch the queen!" Sakura said as she unsheathed her borrowed weapons.
Deathstroke chuckled. "Oh, don't worry about little Perdita. I'm not here for her." He reached behind his back for his staff. "I'm here for you."
Merlyn released a volley of arrows, and Artemis did the same. One thunderclap arrow, however, managed to sail past the assassin. Though it landed a few inches away from him, the resulting shockwave knocked him down on the floor. Artemis was about to unleash another volley, but she was forced to duck when a bunch of shuriken from Tauya forced her to duck. "Hey!" she shouted at the ninja. Suddenly, an arrow fired right into her gauntlet but missing her wrist, pinning her to the floor.
Merlyn then aimed for her heart. "Sorry, little girl. Quite frankly, I don't understand what's going on here, but you're in my way!" He unleashed another arrow as Aqualad blocked with his shield. Making sure to not give him a chance to reload, Aqualad turned his other water-bearer into a whip, grabbing the archer's wrist and flinging him into the wall.
Suddenly, one of Tauya's oni pounded him into the floor. "Ughn!" Aqualad was durable, but the size difference was enough to quickly overwhelm him.
Superboy jumped from behind the monster and grabbed it by the neck, using both his momentum and super strength to throw him into the wall. Tauya squeaked as her own summon flew into her. She practically flattened like a tortilla, and peeled off like a banana. Superboy smirked at the sight…then felt himself lose balance as Jirobo got him into a kneebar.
"Come on, break!" Jirobo growled as he struggled to snap the leg. Though Superboy was stronger, the fact of the matter was at this moment Jirobo had leverage over his leg, and even for him it was not easy to break.
"Get off!" Miss Martian attacked him telepathically. Jirobo grabbed his head as it felt like his brain suddenly lit on fire. Miss Martian seemed to have the edge on this one as she lifted him off, but being focused on one person, Deadshot managed to line up a shot from behind her. He fired, his bullet well on its way to finding its target. Miss Martian sensed it in time and on instinct shifted her density so it passed through. However, she was not trained like her uncle, and she still felt it pass through it's insides. Jirobo, now free from her hold, did a spin-kick in mid-air before he fell and knocked her clear out of the window.
As Miss Martian tried to get her bearings straight, she saw she was clear in Deadshot's sight. He fired off his gauntlets, his bullets sure to hit their mark this time. "Evom!" Miss Martian was suddenly pulled across the ground by some unknown force, the bullets missing her. "Stellub, taeh pu!"
Deadshot began to feel one of his gauntlets heat up. "Aw, shit!" He quickly unfastened it and threw it away as it exploded.
Zatanna looked at the assassin from out the window smugly, satisfied with her work. Suddenly, someone very large grabbed her by the head. Bronze Tiger wasted no time in smashing her against the wall; it wasn't deadly, but it was enough to effectively knock her out. After she was out cold, Bronze Tiger sprinted away, no doubt to claim the bounty. "Damn!" Deadshot cursed in realization. "I'm wasting time!" He yelled as he fired an incendiary round at Miss Martian in order to escape her.
Sakura threw her birdarangs, but Deathstroke twirled his lance and deflected them. Pointing the tip at her, he fired a laser. "Ah!" Sakura fell back as it impacted the space right in front of her, leaving a black scorch mark on the carpet.
Sasuke charged. Deathstroke reacted quickly, blocking a kick. Though his mask didn't show it, truth be told he didn't expect him to be so fast. "He's better than I thought…" Quickly, Deathstroke parried him and knocked Sasuke into the wall. "Still not good enough…but he has potential." A smoke bomb exploded in his face as Robin got back up. The boy wonder leap-frogged over his shoulders and managed to kick the assassin in the face. Robin landed and tried to punch where it would hurt the most, but Deathstroke quickly countered with a swift kick into him, knocking him to the wall. "Stay down!" he yelled. "This will be over in a moment!" Sakura threw her birdarangs again, which Deathstroke easily blocked. "Little girl…" Sakura threw down a smoke bomb of her own, the green smoke covering her form. Yet Deathstroke had no problem finding her as he pushed his fist forward. He saw it make contact with her, but it felt like he punched wood. Sakura's form then gave shape to a wood desk. "What is this!?"
"Goukakkyu no Jutsu!"
Deathstroke looked behind him to see an enormous fireball shoot his way. Deathstroke ducked down to avoid it, but his back was singed. "Ngh!" Though his armor was mostly fire-proof, the heat still got to him. Looking up, he could see what seemed to be smoke floating out of Sasuke's mouth. "He had no weapon which could possibly generate a flame like that! Could he have made it…naturally?" Under his mask, the assassin smirked as he pushed himself up. "Well, NOW this assignment is starting to make more sense."
"Quick! Surround him!" Robin charged with his kali sticks, nailing Deathstroke in the side. "Unnh!"
Sakura and Sasuke ganged up on him, managing to knock the man back. "These two are stronger than I would have expected." Using his lance, Deathstroke blocked Robin's sticks, and kept Sakura at bay.
Sasuke, however, managed to get under him, and kicked him straight up. As the one-eyed assassin was sent into the air, Sasuke jumped up to his level, bringing his heel down on his mid-section. "Lion-Combo!" Deathstroke fell to the floor, cracking it. Sasuke touched down, panting. He tired to walk towards the unconscious man, but then began to feel woozy.
"Sasuke-kun!" Sakura rushed towards him as she supported him. "Be careful! You still haven't recovered from that gunshot!"
"I'm fine!" Sasuke pushed her away.
"Hey!" Robin yelled. "Cool it! She's just trying to help!" Robin sighed, looking at his holo-screen; there were more important things to worry about. "We better focus at the task at hand; Naruto is- "
Deathstroke suddenly kiyupped back up like nothing happened. "You ARE a lot stronger than you look, kid. I'm impressed."
"I should have known we weren't in the clear." Robin muttered.
"Still, I better get to work." Deathstroke finished. "I prefer to wrap up my assignments as quickly as possible."
Robin twirled his sticks as the others got ready. Suddenly, a gold boomerang knocked one stick out of his hand. Looking up Robin saw Kidomaru come down from the ceiling. Robin flipped away from a punch as the spider-kid came down to his level. Sakura tried to assist, but Sakon appeared and kicked her in the back.
"Remember; don't kill her yet." Deathstroke sternly warned him.
Robin looked at him, wondering why he was giving them orders to not kill Sakura. He was brought back to the present when Kidomaru punched him into the wall. Still standing, Robin blocked an attack from one of his golden boomerangs. Pushing him off with a kick, Robin followed through by throwing bolas at him. Kidomaru found four of his arms bound by the cord. He pulled, and the twine began to give way. "Shit!" Robin ran towards him with a flying knee, knocking him over; he couldn't let up with this character!
Unfortunately, Sakura was not faring as well against Sakon, the pale boy clearly her superior in every manner possible. "Pathetic!" he yelled. Sakura was quickly pushed into a corner, as she was kicked into the wall again. Sakura ducked as Sakon punched his arm through the wall. The kunoichi reached for his neck, but Sakon caught her arm and threw her into the glass. "Bitch!" He then noticed something beeping next to his neck. He caught the birdarang too late as it sprayed tear gas into his face. "Ughck!CK!" he coughed. Sakura smirked, finally gaining an edge over him and throwing an elbow into his chin.
Sasuke, unfortunately, was gaining no such edge over Deathstroke. Using his lance, he blocked all of Sasuke's attacks. Sasuke tried an aerial axe-kick, but the assassin parried that too. Not wasting a beat, Deathstroke flipped a switch, revealing a Naginata-like blade at the right end. Deathstroke swung wide, using the blade to cut his leg. "Augh!" Sasuke grunted as he fell to the floor. He tried to stand, but his leg could not support his weight, the tendon completely severed.
"Oh, relax." Deathstroke said. "I avoided your artery. You should be fine." Pinning the boy down with his boot, he then stuck something into Sasuke's neck.
"Ngh!" Sasuke felt something from the device pierce his skin.
"Sasuke-kun!" Sakon grabbed Sakura by the throat and lifted her up. His eyes red from the gas, he punched her hard in the gut.
"Sakura!" Robin yelled, taking his eye off his own opponent.
"Don't take your eyes off the ball, brat!" Kidomaru spat out a web that stuck him into the wall.
"Hey!"
"Remember, I need her." Deathstroke warned Sakon. Sighing, he tossed her onto the floor. The girl struggled to get up, but the assassin pinned her under his boot. "Hold still." Deathstroke stuck the same thing in Sakura's neck, the girl wincing at the sharp pain. Standing, Deathstroke said "I'm done here; I've got one more to go. You may do with them as you please now." He said as he headed down the hallway.
"NO!" Robin used a sharp knife to cut through the webbing, and leaped towards Deathstroke. Smashing a kali stick across his helmet, he managed to make him stumble, but his armor protected him from any real pain. Deathstroke swung his stick at him as he tried to smash him, Robin avoiding by the skin of his teeth. Robin managed to throw a round kick into Deathstroke's shin, but it did little to bring him down. Quickly, he used his grapple line to propel himself up the roof to avoid the stick again. As he was halfway towards the ceiling, Kidomaru's Golden Boomerang cut the line. Before he even hit the ground, Deathstroke threw a trio of bolas at the boy wonder, electrocuting him on contact. "AH!" Robin slumped to the floor. Deathstroke said nothing as he continued down the hall for his final target.
That will be all for now! I'm sure that felt abrupt, but trust me, there is more coming. Until then, catch you later!
