Title: Everything He Wanted

Description: For a long time Robin wasn't sure what he wanted with his life. How could he, when he had no idea who he even was. Though now, all these years later, it was safe to say he now knew exactly what he wanted.

Robin smiled contently.

He never wanted to move from this spot. He had everything he'd ever wanted right here. He was warm. He was safe. He was completely at ease. And he had all those dear to him nestled in his arms.

Lucina lay directly on top of him, her head resting against the crook of his neck. One of her hands lay against his chest, her fingers absently tugging at the fabric of his shirt, the other wrapped around his back. So close they lay together that Robin could feel the beating of both their hearts, melding together into one harmonious rhythm.

A soft, sighing yawn caught his ear next, drawing his focus to his youngest children. The twins Morgan and Marc, both only a few days past their first birthday, slept soundly from where they lay against their mother's back. Both of the toddlers gripped their mother's shirt, held in place by the gentle embrace of the arm Robin had wrapped around all three of them.

Letting his gaze fall further down, coming to where the older, time-traveling Morgan lay curled at the foot of their bed. Robin almost laughed, taking in the sheer contrast between his daughter and her younger self as they napped. While the little Morgan lay fast asleep in peaceful slumber, the older Morgan was far from graceful in rest. Her messy shock of blue hair was even more disheveled than usual, tangled strands sticking up in places. Her mouth hung half open, from which her soft snoring could be heard.

At least her brother was a bit better. Unlike his sister, Marc had fallen asleep in the armchair that sat towards the corner of the bedroom, a blanket draped over him. His expression was one of serenity, a small smile tugging at his lips. So often plagued by nightmares of his future, it was rare to seem him sleep so peacefully. Robin hoped his son was, at least for the time, blessed with pleasant dreams.

This is everything I could ever ask for, Robin thought, closing his eyes as he reveled in the warmth and love that came with having his family nestled so close.

He didn't know what he'd done to deserve this life. From the moment he'd awoken in that field all those years ago, he'd felt like an outsider. A man with no past or identity, even as he forged a place among the Shepherds. He had been content with that for a time, building bonds with his new surrogate family, creating some semblance of an identity among them…

Yet some part of him felt like he would always remain different from them. He'd watched during the war with Plegia and the years of peace after as his friends all began to find love and marry among themselves, starting to build their own lives and futures. All the while he watched and remained stuck where he was, still uncertain of who he was or what future awaited him. He'd watched them all grow and learn and find the strength they'd always had… yet he'd remained static.

He'd almost resigned himself to that fate then. To never have what they had.

Then Lucina had entered his life.

Before he'd known what was even happening, Robin had been plunged into a world he could barely fathom. A world of uncertainty, confusion, fear, sorrow, and joy that came with being in love. Then Morgan had appeared, their family growing before he was ready and forcing him and Lucina into the role of parents. It had truly been a terrifying time, one he'd been entirely unprepared for.

And he wouldn't have traded it for anything in the world.

Now, laying there with his family, content to simply share in each other's company during a lazy afternoon nap, Robin had what he'd always wanted. A life and a future that was his own. A place where he belonged with the people he loved.

Smiling all the brighter, Robin ran a hand through his wife's hair, paying special attention to caress her head as he went. Lucina hummed contently, the sound reverberating through her chest and into his. She shifted slightly where she lay atop him, nuzzling herself closer. Her soft breathing slipped past the collar of Robin's shirt, tickling his skin with its warmth. Robin laughed, doing his best to keep his voice down as to not wake the little ones. He heard Lucina giggle softly, her voice joining in his.

A snore interrupted them. At their feet, Morgan rolled over, curling up into a tighter ball, eliciting another laugh from them both.

Yeah, this truly was perfect.

For too long Robin had been alone, feeling like he never knew who he was or what he wanted.

But not anymore.

Now he had everything he could ever ask for.

Author's Note: I hope you guys enjoyed this one. It's a bit shorter than usual, but I got the idea from a suggestion over on my Tumblr blog and it was too cute not to write.

In fact, the suggestion was to base this off of a great piece of fan art, which you can find at the following link (remove the spaces and replace DOTs with periods)
