Title : Robcina Week Day 2 - Picnic
Description: Call it silly, but Lucina was looking forward to this. Just a nice, pleasant picnic with her husband and daughter. Well… as close to normal as it could be when Morgan was involved.
Notes: Written for Day 2 of Robcina Week 2020
"Morgan? Come on dear, the food has been prepared!" Lucina called out, cupping her hands to her mouth to project her voice into the thicket of trees her daughter had vanished into some time ago.
There was the briefest of silences, then, right on cue, Morgan burst through the undergrowth, kicking up a trailing cloud of dust in her wake. Lucina had only ever seen her daughter move that fast whenever food was involved; not even when her life depended on it did she run that fast. Morgan skidded to a halt, her feet digging into the dirt as she came dangerously close to upending the blanket and picnic basket Lucina and Robin had set out.
"I'm here, I'm here," Morgan panted, propping her hands on her knees as she gasped for air.
Though she had only been gone for a couple of moments, Lucina couldn't help but notice the dirt covering Morgan's clothes and face, along with the handful of twigs sticking out of her hair. How she had gotten so filthy in such a short time, Lucina couldn't even begin to guess. No, that wasn't exactly true. She had a feeling she knew exactly what Morgan had been up to. It was how she'd managed to dirty herself doing so in such astonishing speed was what defied all explanation.
"Digging another pitfall trap, I see," Robin noted, arching an eyebrow as he casually took a sip from his cup of tea.
"Wha- No! I was just… nothing!" Morgan tried to argue, her attempts to appear indignant doing little to make her case. "Which is why I need you to come with me after we eat, Father! Since I need to show you the really cool, totally-not-a-pitfall I made- Er, I mean found!"
"Uh, huh," Robin hummed, taking another sip of tea.
"Here you go, dear," Lucina said, pouring a third cup of tea and handing it to her daughter. Best to change the subject, she thought, lest Morgan take another blow to her ego at being found out so easily.
"Oh! Thank you, Mother!" Morgan grinned happily as she snattched up the cup from her, downing the entire thing in a single massive gulp before setting it aside. "So, what is there to eat? What did we get?"
"An assortment of sandwiches Sir Fredrick prepared on our behalf. For desert there is a fresh pie your grandmother baked this morning," Robin explained, reaching into the basket to begin taking out the individually wrapped sandwiches.
"Oooooh, piieeeee…" Morgan drooled, reaching out with clawing hands towards the basket.
Lucina swatted her hands away, Morgan yelping in surprise as she flailed her now stinging fingers. "Desert after we eat, Morgan. You know better," Lucina scolded gently. She sighed deeply, shaking her head at her daughter's antics. Though even then she felt a smile tugging at her lips, growing even broader as Morgan grumbled and pouted in her somehow endearing manner.
Morgan's displeasure, however, was short-lived as Robin resumed passing out the sandwiches. Tearing off the wrapper with her teeth, Morgan began digging in with gusto, soon her cheeks stuffed full to burst as she ravenously scarfed down mouthful after mouthful.
Nodding in thanks, Lucina took her sandwich next as Robin handed it to her. Carefully peeling back the wrapper, she took a small bite, savoring the taste just as much as she did their serene surroundings. It truly was a beautiful day, as was the spot Robin had picked for their little family outing. They sat on a low hill overlooking a gentle flowing stream, shaded by the boughs of a single tree standing isolated from the nearby thickets. Sunlight shone through the breaks in the leaves above, warming Lucina's skin where it touched. A cool spring breeze washed over the hill, bringing with it the fragrance of the white flowers that dotted the grassy plains bellow.
It was perfect. Truly, perfect.
"Morgan, slow down or you'll choke," Robin warned, his voice snapping Lucina back to the present.
"Buft uuffs bvuury guuud," Morgan slurred through her stuff cheeks, not even trying to swallow before speaking.
"Chew your food, dear," Lucina told her, giving her a pat on the arm. Somehow she didn't mind the interruption or Morgan's more uncouth manner. Simply being able to spend time with the man she loved and their daughter was more precious to Lucina then anything else in this world.
She felt a hand brush against her's, finding Robin reaching out to wrap his hand around her own. She smiled, interwinding her fingers with his, giving them a gentle squeeze. She wished it could always be like this. No war. No fear for the future. Just peace and happiness with the new family she'd found for herself.
Truly, truly perfe-
A loud burp interrupted Lucina' thought, Morgan having finally scarfed down the rest of her food. She pounded her chest, giggling at the loudness of her own burp and grinning ear to ear the whole while.
Okay, maybe not exactly perfect. But close enough.
