Chapter 4
Epilogue
Two days later
Dulci puttered around her apartment trying to keep herself busy. She realized quickly however, that she really missed Dave. They had spent so much time together when she wasn't at work that it was nearly a physical ache when he wasn't around. Dave had quickly become a major part of her life, in numerous ways. Could she really live forever though and be happy with her choice? That was basically what Dave was offering.
What were her other options though? Dulci thought, as she cleaned up her apartment that didn't really need it at all as every surface was already sparkling. Cleaning was one way to keep herself busy so she wasn't daydreaming about her and Dave.
Really, there was only one option she could think of and that was tell him no, return the engagement ring and be miserable for the rest of her life, as she knew she would never be able to forget Dave no matter how hard she tried not to mention those cute, adorable dogs of his.
She had seen the disappointment on Dave's face when she said she needed to think for a while and while Dave had been kind and told her to take all the time she wanted she could tell that he wasn't exactly happy with her response. And really, it was no wonder.
Of course, he wasn't, as he been alone for centuries and she had finally found her, his mate, and she had told him she needed to think on whether or not to accept his offer. Basically, she had rejected him.
Idiot, Dulci told herself standing up straight after that revelation.
Would Dave even want her back now? Dulci wondered, even as she grabbed her jacket since she knew it was chilly out and headed for her car after grabbing her keys.
Dave had been very understanding about her need to think about what he was offering. She hadn't heard from him ever since she had left his house in all that time. Dulci knew that Dave was simply giving her space, space she no longer wanted or needed.
She was going to accept Dave's offer to turn her immortal, as she loved him so much and she would only be miserable without him, something she knew now, when before, she had still been in shock at what Dave had revealed. They shared so many similar interests and opinions and that was just two of the ways that they were alike.
Dulci suddenly realized that she had fallen deeply and irreversibly in love with David Rossi.
Dulci drove into Dave's driveway and she didn't even need to ring the doorbell, as Dave came out as soon as he heard the sound of her engine.
"Dulci, I didn't expect to see you today," Dave said with a certain cautiousness in his voice. "Come to see the dogs?"
"I came to see you," Dulci answered, as she got out of her car and walked up to Dave kissing his cheek.
"You did?" Dave asked trying not to sound too hopeful or let it show his face.
He didn't want to get his hopes up, as he'd been struggling for the last two days not to go see Dulci, to try to convince her that he loved her and that he wanted her with him always. He had tried to give her the space that she seemed to want and yet, here she was.
"Let's go inside. Let's not give the neighbors a show," Dulci said taking Dave's hand in her own.
"No, we wouldn't want that," Dave laughed, beginning to hope that Dulci had decided to accept his offer. He really tried not to, just in case he was disappointed.
The two of them walked inside together and Dave shut the door behind him.
Dave led the way into the den and Dulci took the single chair that she already knew was very comfortable.
"Can I get you anything to drink or a snack or anything?" Dave asked, as he to sat down in the chair across from his mate.
"I don't need anything and I did come here with a purpose," Dulci said. "Not just to see the dogs, as adorable as they are."
"So what did you want to see me about?" Dave asked.
"I came to tell you that I accept your offer," Dulci said. "I've been miserable without you and haven't slept very well on top of it. I've just been puttering around my apartment cleaning things that didn't really need it, just because I was trying to distract myself from thinking of you. I just realized not long ago that I had basically rejected you, even though that's not what I meant when I said I needed to think."
"I don't blame you for needing to think," Dave said trying to control his emotions. "I told you a fantastic, but true tale, so it's no wonder you needed time to really absorb my revelation. I didn't expect to see you so soon to be truthful, as it's barely been 48 hours. I've been thinking about you too, constantly and had to stop myself from going over to your apartment and begging you to accept my offer. That wouldn't have been fair to either one of us."
"You are such an unusual man Dave. I'm looking forward to our life together," Dulci said and Dave got up from his chair and picked Dulci up swinging her around happily.
"You've made me so happy Dulci I'm so glad that you have finally accepted my offer, as I expected to have to wait much longer, if you ever answered me at all," Dave told her.
"I would've been miserable for the rest of my life if I had, something I realized before I came over here," Dulci said. "I won't say that living for centuries isn't still a rather strange concept to me, but I have finally absorbed that you aren't like most people."
"It won't seem unusual at all when you were still young 50 or 100 years from now," Dave said hugging his mate close to him kissing her quite thoroughly to show how happy he was that she was going to be at his side for centuries to come
"So why don't we head to the bedroom?" Dulci suggested smiling as soon as the kiss had broken.
"Happy to," Dave said grinning from ear to ear feeling so happy he could burst. "You are sure this is what you want? Once we get started, it's better to make love every day until you're completely immortal like I am. It'll take several months at least."
"I'm looking forward to it," Dulci promised smiling brilliantly. "I'm looking forward to every day with you. You have changed my life Dave and I mean that in the best possible way."
"Let's get started then," Dave said looking eager, as he led the way to his bedroom. "I'm looking forward more to life than I have in a very long time and that's all thanks to you Dulcinea Waverly. You've changed my life to you know, as I knew what I was going to do every day until you came into my life like a breath of fresh air or a ray of sunshine."
Dulci simply laughed and let Dave lead her to his bedroom where they would make love for hours before falling asleep starting the process to turn her immortal.
She could hardly wait.
