When it came to their group, some days they acted like a rather strange and chaotic family, while others felt so suffocating. On the better days, they could freely act how they used to be in the beginning. The days that were filled with laughter and witty banter, where the road they transversed didn't seem so long. When the easy going attitude, despite Inuyasha's mouth, that they shared and were so happy to coexist with each other.
It wasn't a coincidence that those days were the few that Kikyo was conspicuously away from the group. The days where Inuyasha actually travelled with them instead of ahead of them, wrapped around Kikyo like a lovesick fool.
It was said that, for an Inu pack always came first and the protection of the pack was always at the forefront of the alpha's mind. Looking at them now made them all wonder if that statement was even true. Especially with Inuyasha and Kikyo always running off as soon as the rest of the group started to make camp. Amaturasu only knew what in the name of Inari they were actually doing out in the woods every night.
This day just happened to be one of those days where silence was an ever present companion. The sideways glances that Kikyo would send her didn't make things any better, it was like she was trying to rub it in even deeper with a smug sneer on her face that Kagome would never be first in Inuyasha's mind.
Kagome snorted quietly to herself as she kept a steady pace behind them. While the others had noticed her affection for the hanyĆ had dwindled and scattered to the wind like falling ashes, it would seem as though Inuyasha and Kikyo still thought she was still actively trying to pursue him in a romantic way. Neither of them realizing that her affections had already shifted to another person. A person that Kagome herself wasn't ready to acknowledge in her own mind was the one she really wanted.
Sighing to herself, she gripped the straps or her backpack tighter before glancing down at her pseudo-son. Shippo has grown a little in the time of them travelling, maybe a couple of inches and has taken it on himself to always be keeping her company. She smiled slightly at him recalling the conversation they had had about him starting to 'pull his weight' and 'he isn't a baby anymore that needs coddling'.
Those same thoughts turned to the man that actually treated her as the miko she was. The man that only seldom spontaneously showed up in their camp with his ki suppressed as to not alert Inuyasha of his presence. He would show up to give them pointers during training and simply dissapear in the same light breeze of his entrance when no one was looking.
It was during one of those said visits when he finally pulled her out of her training session for a minute and explained how this era viewed her and would continue to do so until she changed how she dressed. She had admittedly snapped at him and stormed back to train with the others, wanting to vent as much frustration in a productive way as possible. He had left without another word.
But then, Kagome actually thought about it when they had turned in for the night. After her temper had finally cooled and realized that he wasn't objectifying her, but simply stated what was happening around her. She hadn't realized such things were happening, admitting to herself that she was thinking in the mindset of her time and not the era she was in, until she actually payed attention to the people of the next town the pack had traveled to to help.
Kagome started noticing the looks that she was recieving. The disgust from the elders, the rage from the females, and the leering looks from the men. Then, when she was coming to terms with this, she heard the whispers of the people talking about her. The villagers whispering if she was an easy woman, she even heard one of the men talking to his friends about how maybe they should corner her and share. Not to mention the disbelieving whispers of the people over her statis as an actual Miko.
To say that was a shock to her was an understatement. It was a whole fucking wakeup call that she apparently needed and she was thankful to have it pointed out by someone she trusted then have something awful happen to herself.
Kagome sighed as she looked down at her aching feet. Remembering this always brought her mood down and it wasn't like the atmosphere around her would improve it. She was an ass and she knew it, but how would she apologize? She hasn't seen him since that night and it's been weeks. Would he even accept her apology?
She sighed again, looking up to gaze at the world around her as her thoughts swirled like a chaotic storm. He was known for his hatred of humans, would he even come back? Her heart sank at that thought, but she shook that off. She returned her gaze to the trail in front of her as a determined gleam entered her eyes.
'I need to make this right.'
But how the hell do you apologize to the Killing Perfection?
She sallowed another sigh.
'God dammit, I'm fucked. Where the hell are you, Sesahomaru?'
One thing was for sure though, swirling thoughts were definitely not good for her health.
