For demons, things changed faster than they would admit or like. As beings so unmoved by time, when things changed, it put them at a severe disadvantage. Some would adapt to the change, while others would be so stuck in the ways of old that they never see what comes until they are no longer in power. However, the same logic can be applied to most humans as well. The teachings of the elder human generation have always been skewed to please them, not to let the new generation flourish as they should.
For humans, the Elders dictated what could be learned to keep the biggotted and stagnant state they choose to dwell in alive. Those outspoken about the new ways were cut down and were shown as examples for the others that were sympathetic. Many have learned to leave or conform to the ways that were set before them, too scared to speak because of what happened to those before them.
It was tragic. Those who moved forward were mercilessly cut down or never reached the right position in life to make the difference that theu craved. Some would leave everything that they knee and loved to seek others that sypathized and it only played out in one of four ways.
Die in the journey that they have set on.
Die to another, for they have conflicting beliefs.
Die at the hands of those trying to silence them.
Or, on the extreme chance, find others of like minds and build something that would hopefully last through the unforgiving ages.
It was how most monasteries and temples were first created. Those that believed they had a calling too big to ignore the calling, however some (sadly enough) perversed that into something irrecognizable. Corrupting the ideals they once stood for to fit their own means, it wasn't uncommon to see such practices among the humans. The worst of history have always started with the best intentions, especially for those that refused to see what had went wrong.
This was the wisdom that Sango's father gave her through the many lessons that she had to sit still for. She was supposed to take charge of the Taijiya Village when her father decided to step down, but that was gone. She remembered the village that once stood so strong in her youth.
Sango remembered the poeople who taught her outside of her fathers lessons. The merchants that used to come from all around their village to sell their goods. The children that always wanted to play around their weapon training lessons. Even the adaults that would laugh and give advice when they did something wrong or accidently broke one of the trainging dummies.
The village that was now nothing more than a graveyard with no chance of a future unless the Inu-Tachi got their hands on the slippery spider and actually killed him. Sango wondered if she should rebuild the village, knowing that knew people usually didn't uphold the principles that they stood for. Instead new people usually only came to learn how to kill before leaving to kill demons, even if they were peaceful.
Take Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's father for example. While they didn't have a hand in the war that took his life, the man that did come to the Taijiya village to learn how to better fight demons before leaving. It started turmoil that didn't need to happen and interrupted the balance that once was. It was a stain on the honor of their village, one that they still regret and have since been trying to make up for past wrongs. Becoming more rigorous with the tests for the prospective people who came to their village with the intention to learn their ways.
As her thoughts lingered in the past and old lessons, Sango sighed into her cup of water and looked around to the people that she traveled with. Inuyasha was complaining about having to take a break for 'such weak humans' as Kikyo at his side with a smug expression. Miroku was rubbing soothing circles into her back while Kagome attended to Shippo as Kirara kept a watchful eye on Kikyo.
Sango silently wondered to herself as to why Kikyo felt smug. Didn't she realize that she was once human, that her goal was to be human again? Did she think that bringing out Inuyasha's worse traits were going to benefit her in the long run? Maybe ostracizing him from the group made him more pliable to her demands?
Sango took another sip of water from the water 'bottle' that Kagome brought from her time before passing it to Miroku, who took it with quiet thanks and started to drink from it himself. Her thoughts spiraled farther as she kept a watchful eye on the surrounding area.
Everyone besides Inuyasha knew Kikyo would turn on them in an instant if it suited her needs, and they knew that she was in league with Naraku multiple times to kill Kagome for her soul. Was... This perhaps his plan to drive the group apart? Like how he took hold of Kohaku to kill their village that posed a threat to him?
Sango froze, fighting to keep her expression the same as dread built up inside of her. Clues were starting to fit in places dreadfully well. She needed to talk with Miroku and Kagome to see if what she thought out actually seemed possible. If it was, there was bo point in trying to save the dying trust and camraderie that they used to have with Inuyasha.
Sango caught Kagome's eyes, tilting her head and tapping once against her sword with a contemplative look. A silent signal that could be passed off as Sango thinking than a signal they made to say that they were taining that night. Kagome's eyes narrowed slightly before her expression smoothed out and she looked down at the addamently talking Shippo. Smiling brightly at Shippo as she nodded, both to him and letting Sango know that she got the message.
Sango glanced at Miroku and he tilted his chin up a bit, a stuble nod that no one usually noticed. She sighed as Inuyasha started yelling.
"Alright! Get the fuck up and let's move! We don't have time for your weak human bullshit! We're burning daylight!"
"That's right... We need to move forward if we'd like to at least find one shard today."
Kikyo added, her voice a nauseating silky tone. Inuyasha nodded along to her words, throwing more insults at them as they packed away the items they had used for their short rest. All the while Kikyo stood by him smirking with a pleased glint in her eyes as she watched.
Sango's eyes narrowed minutely as they started their long treck again. It would seem that she was finally understanding the motives behind the dark clay creation Miko, and it was time to make a move to keep themselves safe.
