Chapter 6
Mission Aftermaths
Disclaimer: Let's go!
All around, the missions everyone had been on had been successes. Albeit, Todd still had some fear left in him where aircraft and jumping out of them was concerned but that was a process that was just going to take some time to deal with. But he was willing to put in the work as he didn't want to be a weak link for the team. The Gulf of Mexico mission had turned out to be something the team assigned to that had to act on. Especially as Destro had been there in the involvement of weapon selling but unfortunately he managed to get away like the snake he is. But at least those he was dealing with on that oil rig would no longer be free now that they were all in prison. It also helped that said oil rig was now destroyed, meaning that no one could use it unless they really wanted to try and re-build it. Those assigned to the Bratva mission had come out on top despite the fact that Wanda had taken a bullet to the shoulder during the fight with the Bratva.
Leaving her with a scar but thankfully she wouldn't have to deal with a long recovery thanks to Lifeline's healing abilities. The Bratva themselves were none too happy about the loss of their three freighters and had put out hits on Wanda, Cover Girl, Jinx, and the Greenshirts they had with them. The three freighters' cargo had turned out to be a large number of Mutants and Humans, though in the Humans' case, mostly women, whom were all being returned home. Wherever that may be. For the Mutants it had been men, women, and children and they were all now safely relocated amongst the Eloi and the island where the Dragon folks like Kima and her grandmother live after having been examined by the Pit Medics and gotten permission to bring them to those locations. As even with Russia's willingness to use Mutants in the Winter Guard and various parts of the Government, they weren't entirely able to put in the effort to ensure good health or places to stay due to areas of land and former towns/villages needing quite a bit of work to be livable in again for one reason or another.
Hawk also hadn't thought it a good idea for a large number of traumatized Mutants to be living on base with them or at the Xavier Institute for one reason or another. And since Xavier didn't want to share information where Cerebro was concerned, the good General figured turn about was fair play. He'll be pissed when he finds out but that's unlikely to happen since the kids know they aren't allowed to say a word.
The kids also had no desire to get into a boat load of trouble either but since they also had their issues with the X-Men, it was practically a no brainer not to say a word to them. Especially considering now that the Misfits had a new recruit amongst them in addition to Spyder and Arcade by the name of Eden 'Manifold' Fesi after Gateway had given his permission for him to join the team following the mission to Australia had Spirit, Skymate, Xi, and Lance had gone on. Which also got them Torch, Ripper, and Reeve Jerwin in cells and of course those three were proving to be a hard sell when it came to getting them to talk. But Hawk was confident they'd talk sooner or later and while a lot of McKinlay had been destroyed and a number of lives had been lost, the town would be able to be re-built in time thanks in part to the survivors and aid from the government. In addition to getting Manifold on the team with Skymate agreeing to be his handler, Gateway had given them a list of Mutants for the Joes to potentially recruit. Along with when the right time was in order to recruit them.
Hawk thought it was odd but as Manifold explained, Gateway had this way of knowing things. Kind of like with the whole herbal medicine he'd given Lance during his time there as well as starting him on learning Australian Sign Language. The herbal medicine Lance could now make himself now that he knew how to do so. Which helped increase his knowledge in his Shaman studies that Spirit's got him doing. And thanks to Lance and Spirit bringing it up with him and the rest of the Misfit handlers, Australian Sign Language would be included in the kids' lesson plans as well now. Fesi's ability to teleport isn't as limited as Kurt Wagner's is and will be damned handy in the future if anything happens to the Mass Device or the watches.
"Too bad it can't do anything about this damn paperwork." Grumbled the man sourly to himself!
Unknown Location In Hungary
"Sir! We've received reports that Jerwin failed in not only recruiting two of the Dreadnoks, but is currently incarcerated along side them." Declared a female figure with Graying Brunette hair to an older male with dark graying hair of his own.
Respectively, they are Frost and Alexei Volkoff, Frost being the essential right hand of Volkoff that leads Volkoff Industries. Not too surprisingly however, Volkoff wasn't all that upset over the news she'd just told him. "Huh, while that's disappointing as Jerwin has his potential, its not entirely unexpected this would happen. Leave Jerwin where he is for now."
"You're certain of this?"
Volkoff nodded firmly. "It'll give him proper incentive to not fail the next time he's on assignment."
"Very well." Frost said before making her leave.
Author's Notes: And just who is on that list? Since this story includes a crossover with 'Chuck' to a certain point, I thought it would make sense to have Volkoff/Frost/Volkoff Industries involved as being Jerwin's backer. I've also decided I'm not gonna do Time Travel for this story. Even if that does kinda kill a certain idea I was intending to do with X-Force but to be honest, Time Travel in X-Men is over done at this point.
