Chapter 29
The Turn Around
Disclaimer: Same as before but with a little extra.
For a team that is said to be the absolute best to the point of being the Elite, the Hellions were actually anything but thanks in part to the numerous losses they had actually gotten since getting the green light to be out in the field. Thanks in part to the fact that the Hellfire Club had more or less taken it easy on them in their training in order to build up their egos and general self importance. Of course, none of the members of the team, and even Emma Frost herself for that matter, had known of that since there wasn't really much faith in the team by those in higher positions thanks to the fact they had others they could use for various missions and the like. Sure, there was the average untrained groups like the FOH and a target or two that were essentially easy targets but for the most part, the Hellions couldn't quite cut it against the likes of the X-Men, the Misfits, and even Magneto and his crew. Other instances of them suffering losses included a loss against a Blind man, a Girl Scout group, and a 9 month old baby with strong Telekinesis.
There was even reportedly an encounter they'd had with a Boy Scout group but considering some creepyness involved in that, everyone liked to deny it ever happened. And you would think these losses would've done something to curb the egos of the team but unfortunately it hadn't. But things would start to turn around for the team after Emma had chosen to recruit not only Evan 'Spyke' Daniels but a grayish-green skinned figure that only went by the name 'Sinew' as well in addition to Doug 'Cypher' Ramsey. Effectively turning things upside down for the more arrogant minded members of the Hellions. Neither Spyke or Sinew were willing to put up with the attitudes and fought back against it despite the fact Sinew was something of a loner and would've just as soon as knocked someone out instead of dealing with them in any meaningful way. Spyke would even call out the more snobby/arrogant/racist like attitudes some of the Hellions had and told them they were acting like how some Humans did while Emma privately regretted allowing such attitudes to form.
Needless to say, the reactions hadn't been too pretty but Spyke hadn't given a damn as he was all too willing to call things as he saw them. Though Spyke, Doug, and Sinew would end up forming a friendship thanks to the fact they were essentially outcasts amongst the Hellions and Spyke would even make Sinew his second in command should the need arise much to the ire of those aside from Catseye, Empath, and Tarot. An encounter with a small combination of the X-Men and the Misfits (thankfully without his Aunt being around) while taking out a Purist base would see Evan crossing that final line after Agent Walker had gotten herself in the line of fire in order to keep Kurt from getting hurt and while it bothered him to a degree, he knew it wasn't wise to focus on it. But this win and others despite the loss of Doug to the X-Men and Empath's betrayal later on would see the value of the Hellions start to rise in the eyes of the other members of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club.
Which wouldn't necessarily help where egos were concerned and thus making it essentially a never ending battle to deal with.
Author's Notes: Well, that was fun!
