The Longest Haul

"Wow, this thing is huge." Remarked Todd as he and the others got a good look at a device they had been assigned to guard on its journey from North Dakota to a think tank somewhere in Oregon.
"That it is, and to think its merely only a prototype but hopefully in the future it can be given a smaller size so its not as large." The creator of the device told Todd.
Said creator being a woman in her 30s with Brunette hair. "And this device is going to be capable of taking in surrounding energy and then re-distributing it to give new life to any area its in?" Xi asked curiously.
"That is correct. It is my hope that with the resources in Eureka, the process will be refined even further so there is less chance of anything going wrong given that I lack the resources to do it myself." Dr. Erica Epper told him.
And given the potential this device has, there was worry about Cobra or some other bunch wanting to try and take it for themselves. Which is why the Joes and the Misfits had been asked to help guard its transport to Oregon and since no one was sure how the device would react to the teleportation watches or Manifold's power set, it was decided for the best to transport by truck to be on the safe side. And despite her own misgivings where the Mutants were concerned, Dr. Epper wasn't willing to allow said misgivings to get in the way of her device's safety. Hank 'Beast' McCoy and Forge had even been invited for the ride but due to other commitments had to decline while Cross-Country had been recruited for the assignment courtesy of one of his specialties being transportation. "Good thing I brought plenty of snacks." Remarked Fred offhandedly.
Idly wishing Lina had come along but she had opted to remain back at the Pit since she didn't think she'd be needed on this assignment. "And its a good thing I brought extras just in case." Sarah added and getting a smile from the bigger boy.
Not even meaning it in an offensive way as she had learned for herself since joining the team that Fred has a big appetite. As it is, her and Fred had developed a friendship despite no intentions of doing such things with him or the others. Having found him and the others to be kindred souls thanks to her own experiences growing up and had even taught the team the tricks of the con trade that they hadn't already known. She and the others watched as the device was loaded into the trailer and safely secured and Xi, Sarah, Arcade, Airtight, and Dr. Epper would be inside as well. Partly to guard it and partly so that Dr. Epper could continue to dabble with her work with some assistance from Airtight and Arcade if needed. "Alright, let's move it out so we can give the Doctor no doubts about us!" Declared Roadblock as he climbed in to the passenger seat of the truck with Cross-Country as its driver and Eden in the middle seat.
There would be two vehicles in front of them with a Joe as the driver and three Greenshirts with the exception of the second having Cover Girl, Snake Eyes, Todd, and Althea and would serve as the escort vehicles. Behind them would have Lance, Betsy, Low Light, and Fred serving as the rear in Lance's jeep in addition to two other vehicles with several other Joes and Greenshirts in them. "Hopefully next time we can be on a road trip." Quipped Betsy to her boyfriend as the convoy began to leave Dr. Epper's lab.
Lance couldn't help but chuckle. "Sounds like a fun idea to me."
Especially if its just the two of them! "So, who wants to sing road trip songs?" Fred asked cheerfully, causing Low Light to groan.
"Its too early for that!" Moaned the man and earning a few chuckles in the process.
Author's Notes: Will the convoy get attacked? Or will it be a peaceful trip? Who knows!
