Chapter 32
The Longest Haul
Part 2
Disclaimer: Same as before! Been eager to get on with this ever since I got an idea for some zany nuttiness to throw into the mix.
"Spirit, Firestar, and Shipwreck were lucky to miss out on this thanks to their own mission." Muttered Cross-Country with a shake of the head as he and the others watched the insanity before them. Namely a certain Coyote being problematic as Lance did everything he could to try and catch the furball without going insane in the process.
While there had yet to be any attacks made on the convoy featuring Dr. Epper and her device on the first 4 hours of their trip much to the relief of everyone, none of them were expecting what would happen once they got to the border between North Dakota and Montana. Namely, a chaotic nightmare between rival factions of the Mimes and Unicycle Appreciation Societies of America thanks to them getting into it. A situation the convoy had arrived too and tried to help resolve the situation before it could somehow get worse. Unfortunately, it did get worse thanks to one of the Unicyclists in his 50s having the Mutant power to bring forth figments of one's imagination and when he got shoved by an unhappy Mime, his power activated. Now this wouldn't have been that bad if it hadn't of been for the fact that the Coyote was bothering Lance at the time and he decided to take advantage of the situation to bring himself into being thanks to the 50 year old Mutant's power.
"Come on now, Clyde, its time to put that Genie back in the bottle before Avalanche goes full throttle in insanity." Roadblock told the old timer.
"I'm, I'm trying! Honest, I am!" Protested ol' Clyde.
Who, despite his age, wanted to get another hit or two on the Mimes thanks to them throwing him and his fellow Unicyclists dirty looks as they left. Of course, he also wanted to throw a few punches at his fellow Unicyclists since they were giving him a wide berth after discovering the fact he's been a Mutant for years. "The fact you're pretty agitated is probably what's keeping it from happening." Theorized Airtight.
"The Coyote's also pretty nuts so that probably doesn't help either, yo."
"Well, if we don't do something soon, the whole area may become a disaster zone." Remarked Arcade worriedly.
"Perhaps my powers can help here." Decided Betsy and once explaining her plan and getting Clyde willing enough to go along with it, said plan was put into action.
Allowing the old timer to finally calm down long enough for him to exert some control where the Coyote's concerned. "NOOO! I don't wanna go!" Wailed the furball as he began to vanish much to Lance's joy.
"And stay a figment of my imagination!"
"If we were anyone else, that would've been a really weird thing to hear." Quipped Althea with a shake of the head.
"I dunno, I think even with it being us, its still pretty weird to hear." Fred told her and she had to think about that for a minute.
"Good point."
Twenty Minutes Later
After giving Lance something to help calm his nerves down and deciding that Low Light would be driving in his place for awhile, and deciding on who to call where Clyde was concerned to help with his powers, the convoy was set to get back on the road now that things were thankfully calmer. "Well, given the chaos we've heard that goes on at Xavier's, we probably are the better choice in the long run." Remarked Lila Cheney with a shake of the head.
"But I've been just fine on my own for years!" Protested Clyde unhappily.
"And we know that, Sir, but given what happened today, we feel its best some extra education where your powers are concerned is for the best." Airtight told the elderly gentleman in a soothing manner.
Clyde sighed unhappily as he knew the Soldier had a point, even if he didn't like it. "Are there any Unicyclist fans there?"
"Umm… Its never come up but I'm sure there are some around." Lila told him quickly.
"I see. Well, I'll deal so let's just get this over with." Grumbled the old man since he had little choice in the matter considering his fellow enthusiasts had abandoned him by this point.
Lila, Roadblock, and Airtight smiled at him and Lila would grab him gently by the arm and the two teleported seconds away. "Well, let's get this show back on track." Roadblock said and seconds later, the convoy was on its way and into Montana.
Author's Notes: Ahh. that was fun!
