Chapter 43
That West
Coast Love!
Disclaimer: I thought this would be a fun idea to do where the West Coast team is concerned.
When it was announced that the West Coast was getting their very own GI JOE/Misfits team to help combat against various problems across the Coast in the wake of the fall of the Pride, in addition to their having taken down Nicholas Trask and his Crime Organization before their big reveal, many were shocked by this. But ultimately were greatly happy about this aside from the more hateful and criminal elements of the Coast even if most of the team weren't West Coast natives themselves aside from She-Hulk herself. Something her father was shocked about as she hadn't exactly told him about her Greener side and her place on the team and its history prior to becoming the West Coast Misfits just yet. Understandably it would take some time for him to come to grips with that while the Wildfire family would be rather proud of Jake and Kyle while unfortunately still having to keep distance thanks in part to the Hellfire Club while Hawk and Whithalf were looking into any means they could to get the Club off of the backs of the Wildfires.
West Coast Legends like Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg had even dedicated several new songs to the new team and had tried to get them to be in some Music Videos but due to their being busy helping set things up at their new base of operations in Burbank, hadn't been able to do so. But did promise to re-visit the subject again at a later time. And while Volkoff wasn't too enthused by the creation of a second Misfits team, he decided to leave it be for now while focusing on other things but did decide to send Reeve Jerwin and the Ani-Men to try their hand at fighting them. Magneto had merely shook his head at the whole thing and decided not to bother trying to recruit any of them since they were so clearly attached to their Humans and would be rather surprised when Sabertooth admitted that the Starr woman was his younger Sister. And admittedly, was a little concerned over the gleam in the Feral Mutant's eyes but chose to leave it alone for the time being due to other concerns he had.
The West Coast Warlords also would have some grumblings of their own, especially those that Craig had ran with prior to meeting Sinister. As they didn't like the idea of one of their own joining a crew that was effectively against them and what they did and the less said about Craig's adoptive parents the better as well. Philippa and Greycrow however would be quietly supportive of Craig's new path while Harpoon and the others weren't the most enthusiastic over it. The new team would also manage to send Jerwin and his Ani-Men packing when they finally came around and this would be Jennifer's last run with Jake and the others for some time due to her focus on College. Prompting her father to have a talk with Clara where his daughter is concerned once he more or less came to grips with everything. "So my kid's been running around with you all these years, huh?" He asked, deciding not to waste time beating around the bush after she showed up at one of his favorite bars in the LA area.
"She has, yes. She's a wonderful young woman, Sheriff Walters."
William grunted. "While I'm happy to know that, why the Hell didn't you ever contact me? Or get her to contact me!?"
He'd about lost his damn mind with worry over his little girl after she ran away, damnit! Clara winced. "I did try to get her to do so but she refused and I couldn't go against that as it wouldn't have been right. Not when she was fearful of not only her own life but yours as well." Explained the well aged woman.
"That damned piece of garbage." Muttered William where Nicholas Trask was concerned while muttering some other unkind things about the man.
Clara nodded in agreement. "Plus, being so new to her Powers at that time…"
The father sighed heavily over that. "A bit like with Mutant kids when they first get their Powers, a little chaotic… Only without a Crime Boss involved most of the time."
Another nod of agreement came from Clara, though she had some raised eyebrows over his words and he took notice. "I've had some dealings in that area and I know damn well that the Media's just about full of s**t 'cause of it too."
Of course, some of that experience had come BEFORE Mutants had been revealed to the General Public but at least now a days there was an explanation for all of that! How the Big Reveal hadn't happened long before it did was beyond the Father and Sheriff and the man himself was well aware of the LASD's special Department that dealt with that sort of thing and had done so for years while flying under the radar. Though he'd heard rumors about them going Public but so far nothing had actually happened. "I wanna thank you for lookin' out for my little girl, Mrs. Starr, but I hafta say I'm a little resentful at the same time 'cause you got to be there for her in ways I wasn't able too."
Clara could only nod in understanding of the man's words, not at all hurt by them. "I understand, Sheriff, as a Mother and a Grandmother, I get it." She told him and he studied her for a moment.
"Right, your ability to heal and all that. So… Drinks?" His surprising question had Clara look at him in surprise as she hadn't expected that!
"Hey, I figure this'll be a good way to get over my resentment since I doubt you aren't gonna be out of my little girl's life anytime soon. In the Reserves for College or not."
His words caused the older of the two to chuckle. "You'd most likely be right on that, and sure, why not. Though it takes me while to get drunk because of my Healing Factor." She warned him good naturedly.
William shrugged. "Just means you'll probably be the Designated Driver then!"
Grinning in amusement, the two began their quest to get drunk and even share stories where Jennifer was concerned!
Author's Notes: No, I don't have plans for William and Clara to be a thing as where things went just kinda happened. As even though Clara's Husband is very old by this point and likely in the grave (haven't really decided just yet on that), she's still very much in love with and married to him. It also made a strange sort of sense for members of the LASD to have some familiarity with the Super Powered members of the Population prior to Mutants being revealed. And I'm assuming William is a Sheriff and not a Deputy but please feel free to correct me.
