Chapter 44
A Taryn Encounter
Disclaimer: Had this come to mind recently and thought 'why not' and here we are!
On A Dock In Hoapono, Hawaii
On a Dock in the town where Alex Summers has lived with the Masters since being adopted was Scott Summers on the deck of the Ruby Quartz during the Afternoon and enjoying the good weather while he listened to music from the Radio and worked on a portion of a rather large net. One he and the others used for Fishing as a source of income for themselves even if Skuggi was the type to prefer a Spear most of the time. Every one of the crew was off elsewhere (Alex himself helping out Sheriff Lobo) and while Scott himself is on the boat after volunteering to do so. Sure, he could've been doing anything else but had wanted to focus on the net instead. So engrossed was the former X-Man that he barely paid any attention to anything else around him, including the voices of several girls as they walked by. "Wait… SCOTT SUMMERS!?"
That familiar voice had the young man look up and away from his work and his eyes widened under his Visor that he'd taken to wearing more often than his Shades since it made things easier as he took in the sight of Taryn Fujioka. "T-Taryn!? What, what are you doing here!?"
"I, visiting some family that live around here actually! What are you doing here!?" And if Jean was here then so help her…
"Working on this net, mostly." Was all Scott told her.
And the fact his hair was longer, had something of a beard, and was shirtless, was kind of driving Taryn nuts while the others with her went on ahead so she'd have some privacy with the brother of Alex Summers. His response made her raise an eyebrow at him while crossing her arms. "Is Jean here too?"
"Uhh, no, she's back in New York. We broke up months ago and I left the Institute a little bit after to come out here and be with my Brother."
"Oh, well… That's good because I so don't need to see her at all." Grumbled the girl and making Scott scowl as he stood up.
"Taryn… While we admittedly didn't handle certain things all that great and probably should have tried to trust others who weren't aware of what we really are instead of just absolutely trusting that the Adults in our lives knew what they were doing…"
"Yes?"
"The thing of it is… You just need to get over it as what's done is done. And all you really can do is move forward." He finished and surprising her greatly in the process and angering her as well!
Prompting her to get on the boat and have a stare off with him. "You ass! I think I have a right to feel how I do! You are a danger to others! A danger I could've been hurt by at any time!"
"And I don't dispute that as its something I have to live with every day of my life since I need my Shades and this Visor to keep my Powers in check since I can't control them. And I did do my best to ensure you and others weren't hurt." He replied with a heavy air about him that Taryn wasn't able to miss.
"Would I go back and change things differently so we're not having this conversation? I probably would and since my life can get crazy at times, Time Travel is probably something that could happen but I don't want to think about that at all." Shuddered the young man and despite the seriousness of the situation, Taryn couldn't help but laugh some.
"You really think that could happen?" She asked curiously.
"Like I said, I don't want to think about that." Scott replied dead seriously and Taryn couldn't help but shudder as she thought about it a little herself!
"Yeah… I think I see your point. But there's also another reason I've been mad at you for as long as I have!"
Scott sighed and shook his head. "Let me guess, because it was Jean I was more interested in than you?"
"Umm… YES! Was she like, controlling you with her Powers and that's why I never really had a chance since she knew how I felt about you?" She asked accusingly.
Earning herself a scowl from the man she'd long had a crush on and still does even if she liked to deny it at times. "No, Taryn, I can promise that wasn't the case at all. She just… Yeah." Finished Scott.
Pouting and looking away, Taryn thought for a moment before focusing on him again. "So… You two aren't together now, right?"
Somewhat thrown by his former Classmate's question, Scott replied in a somewhat guarded manner. "That's right. Why?"
He got his answer a second later when she threw her arms around him and kissed him soundly on the lips. "I'm finally gonna get what I've always wanted. Which is you." She told him shortly after.
Not caring if that made her look bad in the slightest! "Normally I would refuse with an attitude like that but I'm trying to be less of a stick in the mud." Replied Scott dryly and making her grin in victory.
And its not like Jean would find out since he doubted Taryn would actually say anything unless she just wanted to rub it in. Something to think about later. Much, much later.
"Good boy." Purred Taryn and what those two got up too afterwards was no one else's business but their own.
Author's Notes: Considering Taryn's profile lists her as sometimes being conceited and narrow-minded, I kinda figured she would take advantage of the fact Scott's not exactly super focused on Jean for her own desires. And I figured some of her actions were due to some fear given how things spiraled like they did and how she probably felt betrayed for not being told by someone she thought of as a friend. Of course, I could always be wrong.
