Chapter 48

New York Aftermath

Disclaimer: And a go go we go! Also ignoring the Worthington family drama, for now at least and there are some additional changes in this chapter.

In the aftermath of the Battle Of New York, Hysteria towards Aliens rose even higher while the Hellfire Club retreated to lick their wounds and deal with the legal fallout until they could return to full power. Not to mention there was now even more distrust towards the Governments of the world after Abigail Brand had publicly come out to reveal that her organization known as SWORD existed. Which was something of an off-shoot of SHIELD but geared more towards potential Alien threats than those on Earth and that they'd been around for decades and stationed above Earth and using cloaking technology to stay hidden. And with the fact that Aliens were now known to the world, Brand no longer felt it was necessary to keep hidden despite Fury and some others feeling otherwise. But she wouldn't lose her job thanks to the fact she had enough blackmail to ensure it wouldn't happen. It also didn't help that someone, possibly Ace, maybe Arcade, or someone else, had leaked information regarding the First Line and their decades of activities in the shadows. Prompting some high praise from J. Jonah Jameson once he got around to being able to do so while he and everyone else also learned that the leader of the West Coast Misfits team was none other than the Yankee Clipper himself!

Someone Clara had personally reached out to due to past history to recruit him to be field leader of the West Coast team. It should also be mentioned that because of the disarray the Hellfire Club was now in after the Phoenix fiasco, Jake and Kyle were both finally able to re-unite with their family for the first time in years. And during the efforts to help those injured during the Battle Of New York, Lina had been seen on TV by her former parents and they had reportedly thrown a huge ass fit when they saw her. Neither having wanted a reminder of their Mutie daughter and the fact she hadn't bothered to use another last name when she was talked too only aggravated them further since they didn't want anyone knowing of their connection to her. The two would even start trying to come up with a plan to get back at her for daring to muddy their 'good' name. The West Coasters, while put out about not being able to get involved in the battle, did understand why they weren't brought in while a certain Bayville Mayor was again, none too happy about the Alien Invasion despite it being no where near Bayville.

To the point of unfairly blaming it on Xavier for that matter and nearly causing a fist fight to occur while Scott had actually shown up at the Institute for the first time in months to check on everyone, Jean especially since a phone call just wasn't going to cut it that time. That, and a Scientist who wanted to meet the Professor had chosen to request being brought to New York by way of the Ruby Quartz. Allowing for everyone to meet Scott and Alex's crew on the ship and for some of the ladies of the Mansion to have issues with Skuggi due to his lecherous actions. The in person visit proved to be just as awkward as the phone call had been and Scott could honestly say he wasn't a huge fan of Craig Starr's since the other teenager had kept making comments when he was in earshot to hear them. Support for the X-Men, Misfits, and Mutants in general in addition to the so called Avengers had soared highly in New York for their efforts to combat the Invasion.

And for the Cleveland Crew to feel some disappointment towards Loki after learning of his involvement in the whole thing and seeing that he hadn't learned a thing since they'd last saw him some years ago. In the Aftermath, Shipwreck would be rewarded for his efforts in the Battle by being promoted back to his original rank that he'd been at before being demoted. Now he was still banned from the Institute grounds and a certain Restraining Order was still in effect in addition to the mandatory Therapy and Classes he had to do but the man really didn't care. As he was happy to finally have his rank back! And true to her word, Abigail and Hank would have that conversation she promised they'd have and the big blue lug would swear it was one for the books despite not being all that willing to provide details! The fact he was blushing did make for a lot of teasing from the younger students however! The world was ever changing for better or worse and while some could handle it, others like the FOH, couldn't and lashed out to show how they felt.

Mr. Sinister however, wondered what kind of results he'd get with Alien DNA mixed in with his experiments and grew scarily eager to acquire some when he got the opportunity to do so. The fact that it had also been revealed that the Solar System Earth is in also served as a prime location for excellent Interstellar travel made him think he'd get that opportunity sooner or later. He'd just have to be patient but he could be that as after all, one learned the art of patience when they were centuries old! And thanks to an interview the West Coast team had done after bringing down Nicholas Trask that had revealed some things, one Victor 'Sabertooth' Creed was gearing up to have a little reunion with his dear sister and the apparent new family members she had helped bring into the world as soon as he got the chance! For it'd simply been too long since he and Clara had had some 'quality' time with one another.

Jean also would find herself with a new mentor from Japan by the name of Shima after word had reached her and the others there about Jean's Phoenix upgrade. And since Shima knew how to help deal with that particular Firebird and knew a thing or two about Telekinesis, Jean would be able to learn quite a lot from the older woman in her time at the Mansion.

Author's Notes: Ohh… That's definitely not good where Sabertooth is concerned.
